Good morning ☀️🌞😃 A good way to know that a restaurant is fantastic is when you go back after 6 years and it’s just as good or even better. I have been away traveling for a while and when I came back to visit my family this year my niece asked if I could take her out to eat sushi 🍱 🍣. Without a doubt I knew that she would be able to learn everything necessary on what is best by having Steve take care of her. He was on his day off however everyone else was on it 💯% and maybe even better than the boss man himself haha wink 😉. Thank you 🙏🏼 for a fantastic culinary journey and catering to my niece, whilst teaching her the important fundamentals of the beautiful art of sushi. Your biggest fan and loyal customer Ellery A. Upon a visit to Pismo beach, we came across this wonderful gem of a restaurant. Amazing sushi, the freshest I had for a long time. The seafood salad was out of this world so fresh and unique, also the fresh oysters tasted like the ocean very fresh and good. The sashimi platter to die for. Everything we ordered was unique and awesome. Server was very friendly and good. Definitely we’ll be back for more on our next visit to Pismo beach.
Loved it! Best sushi experience that I've had in a long time. Fresh fish, beautiful flavors. Also, order the fresh wasabi, worth the $3 extra. Outdoor seating area is nice for those that aren't yet comfortable being indoors. Will definitely be back soon!
The only place I will go for sushi. Consistently the best sashimi, rolls, and customer service. Worth the 30 minute drive.
My grandson and I went here on Valentine's day! We had the deep fried Sushi fish rolls. Chicken teriyaki with rice and tempura veggies. All good! This place is so busy all the time that my grandson and I remarked it would be great if they could get into a bigger place! I also had some red wine that was very good
I grew up on the central coast and have been frequenting Yamatos (and Shins) for some time. This place really never changes for the exeption that they don't use Polaroid film when taking there famous birthday pic. Steve (the owner) was still at the helm behind the sushi bar and the sushi still comes in long strips which is always nice. Stop by on your birthday and make sure to tell the waitress it's your special day! You will have a happy happy birthday!! Cheers!!
What a great find! We were passing through the area and stopped at this gem. Best sushi we have had on the Central Coast. Authentic Japanese chef and great service. So happy we found this place.
Best sushi ever. Love being part of the family. They are the best Update 2/17/18 We hadn't been there for six months and it was like we never missed a weekend. The Yamato family proved once again that they are the best in the five cities. Steve, Sam, Cristine,, Nate, and the all too beautiful "Lauren " were on their game again. Thanks all for the wonderful evening. Always fun and delicious. Steve's creative dishes and knife skills are second to none. You got to go!
Incredible evening during Covid season! I’m so glad we chose this restaurant tonight. We had amazing service and hospitality. It really was an amazing experience for us. They were so generous to surprise us with a fabulous appetizer on the house, it was so unexpected. I love their vibe and generosity. The sushi was amazing! I enjoyed the sunshine roll and Grover roll, along with drink special, large beer with Sake $10. See you tomorrow. Much obliged 👏👏👏👏👏
Absolutely amazingly delicious sushi with gorgeous presentation and excellent service. One of my favorite restaurants for a reason!!
This is the “Cheers” of sushi restaurants! Steve and his wife Ann do an amazing job. The fish quality never fails.
Good food, great staff. Very attentive service staff with great fun attitudes and some incredible food creations. The saki ain't bad either.
Whenever we need a turkey burger fix, this is our spot! The service is quick and friendly, and we love the casual, laid-back atmosphere.
Tired of the corporate chain mass produced burgers? This small local diner makes such better food! Everything cooked fresh to order. Tasty and hot! They have a full breakfast menu and many choices other than burgers for lunch/dinner. I had a fantastic cheesesteak made to order add super hot and crispy french fries. Staff was professional, absolutely fast and friendly! Do it! I'll be back for sure.
This place has some of the best food. I love that it’s a drive-through like a fast food restaurant, but it’s restaurant quality food. The breakfast burritos are phenomenal. They don’t overload it with cheese. It’s like a perfect balance of meat, potatoes, vegetables, and cheese. The burgers are excellent. The salsa are excellent. I’ve never had anything bad from this place. $11 for a breakfast burrito that is twice a size as a seven dollar one from a local deli.
Very solid mom and pop burger! I got a double cheese burger and it was pretty much exactly what I was expecting, and a bit more flavorful than expected! The fries did not blow my socks off though, but that may not be a typical experience. The prices are reasonable as well. I'll definitely be back.
Our go to for breakfast spot...well to pickup and take to eat on the beach. Pic is of their breakfast burrito we ate today with (bacon, ham, sausage, salsa, cheese, taters) all fresh. Feeds my wife and I. We always call in, employees are polite, and the food is fresh and ready when we get there. You can pick up through drive thru, Google Pay, inside is clean, and chill.
When I heard $33 over the drive-through I involuntarily spouted a profanity. That’s a lot for fast food combos. But I have to admit, it was worth it. The burger was surprisingly good. It had that fresh charbroiled flavor with the cuts of crunchy vegetables. Bang for the buck. You definitely got double the portion and satisfaction than the other fast food options.
Amazing food and big portions. The steak sandwich and fried zucchini are on point! Just be prepared to wait if you choose the drive-thru (turn your car off). I think I really loved nearly everything I've ever ordered here, especially the amazing steak sandwich. However, it's gotten so much more expensive over the years, that I can only order it on special occasions. Otherwise, a basic cheeseburger or even a grilled salmon burger and the grilled ortega chicken sandwich are absolutely delicious and not too pricey. I unequivocally cannot miss out on their zucchini fries every time I go there.
Orcutt Burgers is the BEST!! Good ol' fashioned hamburgers!! I have mine with cheese, bacon and an extra patty and I am always STUFFED, but it feels so good! They do breakfast too and have all sorts of other yummy goodness besides burgers! The crew there are always nice and on it and the atmosphere inside is low key and casual, good ol' burger joint! Oh, and just go ahead and get a milkshake!! Do it, do it!!!
5.0 🌟 Food Quality and Taste 4.0 🌟 Menu offering 4.0 🌟 Food Portions 5.0 🌟 Staff $$$ A hole-in-the-wall restaurant could be the next best Japanese restaurant in Grover Beach. They offer quality and a variety of creatively curated sushi and sashimi. The chef prepared us a special tray of sashimi that includes fatty tuna and wagyu beef that melts in your mouth. Everything we ordered was fantastic, except the Salmon Skin Salad and Seafood salad. They were ok but could use better greens, and it lacks solid salad ingredients to make it worth it. The place may lack ambiance, but the food will wow you. I saw a lot of comments about the portions being small. But the truth is the amount of food is just right, the quality of the food here is better, but it's pricier than other local Japanese restaurants. If you're used to big chunky rolls packed with rice, you won't get it from this place. Overall I give Yamato at least a 4.0-4.5 star. Top-notch quality food with good service though it lacks ambiance and some items on the menu is pricey.
Decent Japanese restaurant near downtown Pismo beach. Food overall was good. Unagi was amazing. Albacore roll wasn't out favorite as the combination of flavors didn't blend well for us. Spicy rolls weren't spicy but quality of fish was good. A bit on expensive side - sushi is generally expensive.. It was super dark inside and a bit difficult as light and dark contract made it difficult to have a normal conversation with group you come with.
Although the restaurant is very nice, it is way too small, just like the restaurants in Japan 😂. I bet that you might have to wait a long time to get in if you arrive during peak time. The food was good. Especially the uni was very buttery and fresh. The only thing about this restaurant that I don't like is the furniture; the chair cover was covered in stains. Hopefully, they will replace everything to give the restaurant a cleaner appearance.
Update 11/25 After a refurbish we believe the foods even better-fresh tasting, hot off grill, well made and lots of foavor-our go to for a wide selection menu. Prices are fair for the large servings-try chili fries! Slow cooked no beans yum! 4/25 We really enjoyed the Patty Melt-hot, fresh made, crispy and soft rye and thick patty with tasty sauce and grilled onions. Big sandwich, saved the other half for later! Cashier friendly and helpful.
I've been coming to Grover Beach for work a few times now and wanted to try some of the burger joints I hadn't been to yet. Orcutt Burgers is tricky to get to if you are heading inland, it is easy to miss the driveway. I'm glad I looped back for it though. Parking is really tight, but they have a drive through which was doing good business while I grabbed lunch Staff was really friendly, decent diner style seating indoors and a couple of 2 seat tables outside. Good size menu for the place. They make it all to order and is easy to watch them make it. Sadly, the patties seemed to be frozen pre made ones, but everything else looked and tasted freshly prepped. Solid burger, fresh produce on it and a good bun. Service and staff were great. Pricing is good, definitely a solid value to grab a meal. I'll definitely come back to try more.
The burgers are very good but the menu showed the cheeseburger for $7.95. When I ordered it and the server asked if I wanted to make it a combo it jumped up to $15. A little too much of a jump in my opinion. It was a fountain drink and some fries. The girl at the counter was not overly inviting and spoke so quietly that I could hardly hear her. The 2 guys that were in the kitchen were very friendly. Nonetheless it was good meal and I didn't leave hungry.
The place is small but with the patio seating it looked amazing. Sushi chef on point greeting everyone in a Japanese tradition. Got my cold Asahi, wife order the roll which looked phenomenal and we got oyster shooters. Unfortunately my meal never made it. They had the order stuck in the printer for 45 minutes. Decided to leave and experience the beautiful day in Grover Beach. Maybe next time. Pricing on the menu was pricey but I can't say worth it or not. Never tasted it. :(
Somewhat disappointing! Not as authentic as we had expected, a bit fusion. The restaurant smelled kind of greasy and the floor was kind of sticky. Wish it was cleaner. Service staff was friendly and attentive. The quality of sashimi was average and so was the flavors.
We ordered the Mixed Tempura, Galbi Ramen, Cheese Golden California, and Sushi Combo B. Mixed Tempura: about 6 pieces of vegetables and 2 shrimp. $13, and it was pretty good. Galbi Ramen: $17. I wasn't too impressed with this. The portion size is great. The Korean BBQ beef and fish cakes were good, but there wasn't anything about it that set it apart from a bowl of ramen I could make at home. Cheese Golden California: $14. Way too much cream cheese, and the avocado didn't appear to be that fresh. I added quite a bit of Wasabi to it, and despite too much cream cheese, I quite liked it. Sushi Combo B: $34. The nigiri came out several minutes after the Salmon Skin Sushi roll, so long that we thought they had forgotten about it. The pieces are large with a bit of Wasabi and lemon added for seasoning. For the price, it was disappointing. The location itself is nice, clean, and cheerful. Service was pretty quick and helpful. There was a mistake made that said we had 22 guests, with an added $20 "large party fee." This was fixed after bringing it up, but I wonder if that happens often and if people catch it. Overall, the price on everything was expected, the service was good, and the food was just ok.
Rude service, very loud atmosphere. Diner area is very small, lots of people hanging around outside creating a unpleasant dining experience. Sushi was very good but the grill food was sub par. Chicken taste reheated, sushi came out a full 20 minutes ahead of the grill items, plus the ran outta rice so one plate didn't get rice till we were done. Would not recommend and don't choose to revisit.
Service was good, friendly people. Ordered bbq bacon burgers Togo got home and no bacon, Burger Patty's were tough and chewy. I won't be going back, so many places with much better burgers for the same price.
PASTRAMI CHEESEBURGER. First of all, the guy putting food together was not wearing gloves and was touching multiple things in between food build. The veggie condiments were fresh. The burger patty needs to be seasoned. The pastrami did not taste like pastrami. The 1000 island sauce was tasteless. In all, the burger was bland and very boring. I understand some people like their food plain. ONION RINGS. The batter on the onion was very thin and crispy which made it enjoyable. You can really taste the onion. I just didn't like the $4.25 one size price tag. It's good if you're sharing with 3-4 people, but not if you're alone. I had to throw away more than half. It'd be nice to have 3 sizes at different prices. S. M. and L. It's good if you want to try it once for yourself, but I personally will not visit a 2nd time.
Ordered Ginger Pork Ramen. Looked and tasted like miso ramen. The pork was not seasoned. They sliced it from a pork lion in thick slices and it was so dry. The noodles were too hard. Very disappointing! Not worth the money. The restaurant smelled like a fish market.
Bad service, waited to order no answer from speaker other cars in front of me, when I got to the window she said I couldn't order that I would have to go around again and order from speaker, I'm a regular there on Sunday's with my wife and kid's. Thought about what she said, that she couldn't take my order, os I lift, it we'll be very hard for me to return there again.
