Their food was actually really good! I wasn't expecting it but the server, Heather, was amazing and so incredibly knowledgeable about the area. We had shrimp scampi and something called twin peaks which was two steaks topped with lobster and shrimp, broccoli and asparagus and wrapped in bacon.

Dined in for my husbands company Christmas party. My first experience and WOW! Our server was top notch always communicating. There were about 25-30 of us. They prepared a room just for us. The food was phenomenal! Huge portions, of course a to go box was needed! Very top notch , completely worth the price. All of the items that came with just the usual order was insane! Soup, Salad , potatoes,bread , main entree and dessert all included !!! Everything tasted so amazing. I had the rack of ribs, always pork😁 extremely happy with my plate. My husband had the ribeye , practically licked the plate. Lol! Everyone should definitely have this experience.

I went in tonight apprehensive with a party of 7. We were greeted by a most gracious host who seated us very promptly. The atmosphere was incredible. It was like a trip in a time machine... my kiddos wanted to take pictures of everything... so get to our server I forgot to ask his name I think it was Nick I could be wrong; he was ahhhhmazing!! Seriously THEEEE best service I have ever experienced. He was sharp as whip, humorous and full-on engaging candor, no cup went dry, no expression went unnoticed. I really wish I asked his name so I could specially request him our next trip. The food here is great, the ambiance was as well but our host and server really went the extra mile to ensure we had a superb dining experience. I'd give em 10 stars if I could 20 for my server!!

Had a great dinner at AJ Spurs in Pismo. The food was excellent—everything came out hot, well-seasoned, and cooked just right. You definitely get a hearty, satisfying meal. The service was spot-on too. Our server was friendly, attentive without being overbearing, and kept things moving at a comfortable pace. The atmosphere is exactly what you'd expect from a place like this—rustic, fun, and clean. It feels like the kind of place where they take pride in what they do. Definitely worth stopping in if you're in the area. A+

This is a **STEAK HOUSE** so if you want red meat, real mashed potatoes, genuine au jus, and good, basic dinner this is for you. The salad could have some better and additional ingredients given the quality of the entree. It is cafeteria style salad. In contrast the prime rib was A++ and the mashed potatoes made my eyes water they were so good. The vaquero soup is so-so and seems to come from a can. It is OK when mixed with the beans and salsa. WAY WAY too much food for one person so expect a TO GO box and soup cup. I will be back. Live music. Kitchy western decorations, taxidermy animals and large wooden, western sculptures and actual fire arms. Yee haw. Bring your country self and saddle up for a big meal after a day on the trail. Heee yawwww!!! <crack>

AJ Spurs is a household name for my family since my parents grew up in Santa Maria. On trips to visit my grand parents we would always stop at the Buellton location, so you better believe that when passing through Pismo we stopped there for dinner. My wife did the twin peaks... two bacon wrapped filets done two different ways, one with shredded lobster asparagus and hollandaise, the second with broccoli shrimp and bearnaise sauce. I went as big as you could go with "the gambler".

Amazing Restaurant. Are you hungry? You should be! You get soup as starter, salad to follow, then your main meal (the steaks are incredible) and to finish ice or a liqueur. Enjoy!

The entire dining experience was wonderful 😊. The stew with beans as an appetizer was delicious, the ribs and dessert were also delicious. Very generous portions with plenty to take home enough for a couple more meals.

Cannot visit or Arroyo Grtande without going to A J Spurs. You will never leave hungry. The atmosphere is impressive.

We've been to both the Grover Beach and Buellton locations. This visit to Grover Beach was AMAZING! John was the best server we have had ANYWHERE! Even the kids said so. They were telling us to tip him a lot. Great server, wonderful person, and amazing at his job. Thank you!

This place is incredible. Step back into a western atmosphere. Service was impeccable. Food was great! Tons of it. Prices were a little high but soooo worth it. Scampi was delicious. Pork chops outrageous. Can't say enough about the service. A must place to eat.

I read the reviews and honestly, I liked this place. It’s a little kitschy and overstated as far as decor, but the food was great and the service was top notch. The New York Strip I ordered was excellent and cooked to a perfect medium rare. All of the sides, and there are many, were equally delicious. Be prepared, you will be brought soup without ordering, it’s just part of the meal. Same with the beans and potatoes. Seriously, it’s a lot of food so plan accordingly: loose pants, no meals the day prior, nap in the parking lot between courses, etc. Although the food was great, the service didn’t disappoint either. The staff seem to want customers to feel welcome and properly served. Tip them accordingly as they will make several trips to your table with food. I’ll go back when I’m in the area.

On vacation, found this gem! Great ribs, 10oz filet, 16oz Ribeye. We loved it all! Very cool building. Great service too! With adults, expect to pay 49-50$ a person. Well be back next year on our vacation!

I am going to keep this simple. This place has the beat food in town. The spread is amazing and everything is cooked to perfection. This dining experience is what I would rarely call, perfect. As an added plus, you get a slight discount if you stay at the Holiday Inn next door. Hands down one of my best dining experiences.

I hadn’t been to AJ Spurs since it closed in Marina, Ca. And I am glad we went when we spent a weekend in Pismo Beach. Our waiter was amazing! (I wish I got his name to give proper credit to him) even my young son said “mom he was a good waiter, give him a good tip”. Receiving exceptional service makes the meal even better. The food was delicious! We will definitely be back!

You will definitely not leave hungry! Oversized portions, but everything was prepared very well. I got a pork chop that was very good and would definitely return. Its puzzling why they're open for only 4.5hrs a day though??

My wife and I been wanting to try this place out for a whyle we finally did and I gotta say we were not disappointed staff was really friendly. My wife ordered the top sirloin and I order the new York with onions and mushrooms both cooked medium well. Food was delicious we are definitely going back.

This was our first time at AJ Spurs. We ordered the pork barbecue ribs, the pork chop, and the ribeye. The mains were all delicious and the soup and other sides were very good. Another amazing night here. I brought my kids about a week ago and the food was great, atmosphere was friendly and drinks were too notch. I had to come back again a couple nights ago with a date and we sat at the bar and service was exceptional. This cute elderly man was singing and he sang the song that I have as my dates ringtone and it was beautiful and nostalgic and so coinicdental! The bartender was fun, listened to our nonsense and even gave me the pen I signed my check with because I liked the way it wrote. I love this place and will definitely be coming back again and again!

This place is amazing especially because of Rebecca and her crew! We were here for a double birthday. We started with their family style stew and black beans with salsa. Tremendous! Next was a garden salad - cold and crisp. The main course, filet mignon paired with rice pilaf and family style crispy potatoes was slightly under done for me at medium. Dessert is included and we had an ice cream sundae. If you are an animal lover though, be aware that there are at least 100 taxidermy items. I just didn’t look at them. Great food , great price!

Sadly, 5 stars is insufficient for the service and quality of food we had here. John, our server was excellent and ready to provide any and everything we needed - always without us having to ask. The food was incredibly delicious - every item we had - Steaks, Chicken, Rice Potatoes and the Complimentary Soup. The only downside is I will have to wait until I'm back in town to enjoy this again. First time at AJ Spurs and it’s like cowboy Disneyland for people that like to eat a lot. We got bacon wrapped Jalepenos to start and they were fire! The cowboy stew was delicious. The Chicken Oscar was decadent and the potatoes with grilled onions were amazing. Side salad was big and fresh. Bring your appetite, because the portions are huge. Holy cow. Leftovers for days.

This was my first time at Aj Spurs saloon, I had heard through a family member to stop in, so I did. It was wonderful. Let me tell you that the beans are so delicious I had to have seconds, and you get beans, salsa, and a big pot of stew before you order. Also, a salad, the steak, was cooked perfectly. It was tender and very flavorful. It comes with rice and a skillet of potato crisp, which are also wonderful it's honestly a lot of food, and I ate every bit of it. The staff was really good. Me and my hubby loved AJ's Spurs! Our waitress was sweet and always on the lookout. It was our first time visiting this steakhouse so we accidentally went all-out. We got The Gambler which was amazing, it was delicious and so fulfilling. It came with a salad, potatoes, rice and garlic bread. We also ordered Pork ribs and Shrimp with bacon lol, they were pretty good too. We didn't realize the entrée came with so many items, but everything was so yummy! My husband loved it. Really neat inside with lots of cool things hanging on walls to look at and nice fireplace. The server was friendly, informative and attentive. Food was really good. AJ Spurs serves up some really good food in a neat Western Cowboy restaurant with old school neon signs, stagecoach and all the fixings. The Prime Rib special was delicious. Dinners come with desert and they have a full bar too! Staff was super friendly and food was tasty. Right off the freeway and lots of parking.

This was my 1st time at this location but my 2nd time eating at AJ spur the fool is very good just army may seem a little pricey but it's worth it because you have a big meal hearty meal The environment is nice you have a lot of stuff to look at with clean the waiters and waitresses are attentive the food did not take long to come out at all it's good to take children or not she want to have some drinks it's also good to go there just make sure you have an appetite when you get there because the portions are quite big

For my birthday celebration, I gathered my trusty crew of three fabulous cousins and two delightful girlfriends, and off we went to AJ Spurs Steakhouse, where the motto should be, "Go big or go home!" Now let me tell you, when I ordered the beef and pork rib plate, I wasn't prepared for the feast that arrived. It was so huge, I half expected a cowboy to ride in on a horse and deliver it! I went full-on pork fanatic with the ribs, and boy, did they deliver. The meat was so tender it practically disintegrated into flavor heaven the moment I touched it. Not a dry rib in sight—just juicy, delicious goodness that made my taste buds do a happy dance. And the portion sizes? Insanity! I’m pretty sure you’d need a wrestling belt to claim victory after tackling this meal solo. With cowboy stew, salad, beans, and potato skins on the side, plus a root beer float and Texas toast, there was enough food to feed a small army—or at least to keep my crew happily snacking for days. Speaking of drinks, let’s just say they don’t play around here. Our beverages were stronger than my resolve to stick to a diet! Our waiter was an absolute gem, providing entertainment as we laughed and chatted—he even brought me a brownie sundae that was so delicious it could’ve had its own fan club. Now, if you're a PETA person, you might want to steer clear; the decor is as rugged as it gets, with stuffed animals adorning the walls and a solid Western vibe that screams “Meat lovers unite!” It’s like stepping into a Wild West movie—minus the horse chases but plus a whole lot of flavor! Western cowboy decorations inside, quite interesting. Friendly host, fast service late at night and during the week. Better come hungry. They start you out with a vegetable soup, very delicious. We ordered appetizers, steak bites and the mix grill, very tasty but the serving was quite large so glad we ordered those as appetizers! The glass of wine was expensive.

We visit Pismo Beach several times a year. I've driven past this restaurant many times but never tried it. Someone at one of the wineries told us we needed to give it a shot, and we were pleasantly surprised! The decor was a bit much for me, but I probably would have loved it as a kid. (many families with kids there and there's a lot for them to look at) Old West style, A LOT of stuffed animals everywhere you look. We were not seated even 5 minutes and there was a pot of soup (cast iron pot a cowboy might have over a camp fire 😅), some beans and some salsa on the table. They recommend you mix all three together, and they were right. The meal comes with the soup, a salad, potatoes, and your choice of a root beer or a dessert liquor. We ordered the beef ribs, a rib eye, and a lobster tail. The half order of beef ribs was 4 large ribs 😳. Both meats and the lobster tail were well cooked and had great flavor. BBQ sauce on the ribs and the crust on the steak were spot on. There are a lot of good food choices in and around this area, and AJ Spurs did not disappoint. If you want a steak or some beef ribs after a day of wine tasting, this is a good place to go. You won't leave hungry!

It's a fun place. Wait staff seems super happy to help. The formula for dining is definitely set, but if you go with the flow you can have a great time. Don't overload on the soup because dinner portions are very generous. Nothing is overly fancy, but the steaks are good quality and everything is very satisfying in a home-cooked way. There are definite nods to traditional Santa Maria BBQ.

What a blast from the past going into this restaurant. It's definitely got its own vibe and it feels like in the 90s, not in a bad way. I was visiting for work and stopped by here for a steak. We were immediately seated along with a very attentive server, not a lot of small talk from her but she did her job and kept it simple. I'm not going to complain about that. We ordered appetizers, Ribeye steaks and they were cooked perfectly. I'm really happy with the food overall. If you're looking for a good steak, go check this place out, be ready to spend a little money.

Love the old stuff and the atmosphere. My son's steak was perfect and flavorful. My husband got ribs, they were very disappointing. My burger was good the soup they serve is good. I just think it's not worth the price. But the place was packed on a Saturday night. So they are doing something rite.

Coming from Texas I thought this place would be fun to eat at. I do feel that it was just a tad bit over priced for what we got. My boyfriend and I both got the filet mignon medium and both were cooked unevenly it was more on the well done side. The rice pilaf was a yawn. The best part of the dish was the soup you get as you sit down. I wasn't impressed, I'll make sure to save BBQ and steakhouse cravings for when I'm back in Texas. I suppose I can only blame myself eating steak near the coast. I felt mislead by the 4 star reviews, I think 3 or 3.5 is more accurate. I found the interior decorations a cute homage to the idea of a "Western" themed restaurant along with the pleasant country music selection.

Let's start with my wife's halibut, she loved it. Now about the filet mignon, at $43 for a 6 oz filet mignon please don't over salt it, I couldn't finish it. Other than that we had a good time. Just my opinion.

I don't have much to say about this steak house. The food I got was ok, but not what I expected. I should have probably got a steak instead of the shrimp, but I want some sea food being at the coast. Since I had never been, I figured I couldn't hurt. The server was wonderful and very friendly. The food was kind of like a pioneer western style. The first dish was their take on a soup that was a vegetable beef base with a bowl black beans and salsa. Which you are told to mix all togther and then eat. In my opinion it was really good and allowed you to mix the amount you liked. The sald was next and I should have ordered the dressing on the side. You definitely weren't getting a dry salad where there was not a lot of dressing to cover your veg. In fact, there was so much my dressing it was a little overpowering and took away from a nice salad. My main dish was a shrimp plate that, when ordered, you could only order one type of shrimp. No mix shrimp dish. So I got the bourbon bbq bacon wrapped shrimp. The shrimp were large and well cooked, but again, they were drowned in sauce, which I believed took away from the main dish. You also got rice pilaf and texas toast. Desert also came with the meal, which was some like a pie or cake or after dinner shot. I went with the after dinner shot, which was bailey's, Irish cream, and Kailua, if I remember correctly. Do I believe it was worth 60 plus dollars? No. But the atmosphere is great if you're into western style look and horns. Lots of horns, but the picture and guns and other stuff like that will keep your interest enough until your food arrives.

After many years of hearing about this place I decided to check it out and its ok. Nothing really to brag about. Food quality is ok, the meats seem good but a little over priced for the stuff you get. Service was great. Drinks are decent and I really liked the atmosphere.

Definitely come hungry the Cowboy soup is plentiful and tasty. The steaks are good but I've definitely had better. If you like outback, Black Bear dinner and such very comparable. The decor is a bit different, lots a taxidermy, but fits the theme.

$325 for 3 adults. The lady that was serving us definitely didn't have very good table side manners. The guys running around were very sweet and helpful. The soup they serve is just some vegetable soup that's sub-par. I asked for a salad with the ranch on the side, however i was served salad soup instead (way too much ranch).The waitress got an attitude when we asked if we could order crackers or some bread. Garlic bread is really good. We ordered 2 ribeye steaks, 1 tbone steak, coconut shrimp, spare ribs, and a full rack of beef ribs. The rice pilaf should be thrown away. The potatoes are really good. Do wish there was an actual vegetable served. Steak ribeye was ordered medium and they delivered it full rare, other rib eye tasted spoiled. BEEF RIBS ARE WELL WORTH IT. tbone was good. Coconut shrimp were huge and yummy but the dip for them was horrid. Spare ribs could have been more tender but were very flavor full. Root beer float would have been better with a decent root beer. Id go back if some items were change or even just the sauce on the side and proper cook on steak was delivered.

Of course if you can handle stuffed animals and birds this is place for you. Only one vegetarian item. It was a veg tortellini pasta in almost an Alfredo type of sauce. It was filling but taste was just average. Everything else on the menu has meat or made with meat broth. The stew and beans were, I am told, barely warm. Service is so so. Our waiter was nice but that’s about it. No real interest nor enthusiasm. Won’t be going here again.

This was the 2nd time we went here, we had forgotten why we hadn't been back until we went back. The soup they serve is good so are the salads and desserts, but the ribs were tough, I guess no one there has ever had Texas Roadhouse ribs, cuz when I asked if they were good, I was told yes, but they weren't. The food just isn't that great, even the sides weren't that good. We just took ours to go cuz I didn't even want to eat it. Not worth the price either.

Felt like I was given sub par service either due to the fact I was eating alone or maybe my ethnicity. Waiter hardly checked on me and didn't offer me any choice of dessert that was supposed to be included with the dinner menu. Instead he handed me the check and seemed intent on shooing me out of there as quickly and brusquely as possible. Pretty offensive honestly, and won't be coming back if this is how customers who you don't expect to get a big tip from are treated.

We had a birthday dinner reservation for six, and the manager refused to seat us until everyone arrived—even though we were only waiting on one person. Service was very slow, and it took forever to get basics like drinks and silverware. Honestly, it was embarrassing in front of friends and family. Everyone at the table was asking why I chose this place, and I felt uncomfortable the entire time. The food itself was good, but for the amount of money we spent, I didn’t expect to be treated like unwanted guests. Unfortunately, this really put a damper on the celebration. Next time, I’ll probably go somewhere like the Hitching Post or the Swiss, where customer service doesn’t feel like an afterthought.

There's a reason i put 5 stars for the food, the food is amazing at this location. I've been here 50+ times, they have the best bbq in the area but when an establishment is racist theres no reason to keep giving them business. Today i had to deal with racism that ive never dealt with before in my life. I was taking my mother in law out for a late mothers day dinner. We were having a great time laughing before we were told that the we were "laughing and being too loud". I proceeded to apologize and ask the people next to us if we were being disrespectful & they laughed and said we were doing nothing but making them laugh. We are a predominantly brown family. This place is racist and disrespectful to people of color that just want to have a good time. I will never come back here again & anyone of color should never come here either. RACIST ESTABLISHENT, IGNORE AT ALL COST.

The food is expensive but the steak is just okay. The salad uses iceberg lettuce. There is no choice of starch between rice and baked potato. One positive is that there is a lot of food before your meal comes soup, beans, fried potatoes

Big mistake coming to this place! With a 5 stars google review, I thought it is the jackpot but it isn’t! I ordered a medium cooked burger that came well done (like the paddy was cooked twice) and warm-coldish fries I told the waiteress about it and they changed it for me! The second one was definitely better. But 3 servers coming at my tables so I didn’t know who was the person I’m dealing with. And a big no! The bill before the desert, why? Are you in a rush or you are just bad at your job? Being offered a container while I’m still eating followed by a the check! I will never be back and this place surely doesn’t deserve a 5 star reviews! Check out Ember down the road as it never disappoints

I usually don't give bad reviews but have to on this one. Went with a large group of coworkers for medical lecture dinner. Worst place I have been to in a long time. Orders were wrong. We did not get all our food with the orders. Some of my friends got their food 45 minutes after the rest of us. The food was bland and either overcooked or undercooked, never right. My pasta tasted like it was a reheated TV dinner, I only had a few bites, and the rest was trash. The server did not do a good job and lied to use about our missing order. He kept telling us, "potaotes and rice with the order for the tabel are being made"and would be brought to the table soon, but he ended up giving the check for us to go. When we asked about the remaining part of the order, he said "sorry the kitchen did not make it." I could keep going about more issues, but I definitely will never step into that place again.

Made a reservation for 5 the day before. While we did arrive 10 mins late and then had to wait another 5 mins for the manager to come back to the front since one person was parking the car we got seated at a small booth with a chair at the end of the table. We asked for a bigger one because it was way too small. Hence why we made a reservation. We were seated after talking back and forth with the manager at a bigger table. The waitress did not check on us. Our food took longer than usual to get to us. We’ve been here several times before and never really had an issue. Definitely not how I wanted to spend my birthday dinner.
