We love going to Black Bear Diner. It was our first time to the Hayward one, and I was very pleased with the location. They took a bit of time to seat us, though. However, after we got seated, the server was very prompt and courteous. My kids loved talking to her. The food was fresh and delicious. We will be coming back here again.

We went for dinner on a Friday night, and were seated right away. The food was GREAT, and so was the service! All the little black bears in the gift shop r just adorable!!! We took lots of pictures with the carved bears outside, because they r just adorable, too!

I had a fantastic dining experience here! My server was awesome: friendly, attentive, and professional! The food was delicious! I ordered the tri-tip and rib combo with sweet potato fries and broccoli. Portions were generous and prepared as requested. I'll be back on my next visit.

Nice place to bring the family. Also, kids eat free from 4pm-9pm so that certainly helps! When we got our plates, I was surprised to see the pancake was shaped like a bear with eyes made of banana slices with chocolate chips, etc. (see picture). I've got two small children and the wait staff was really nice. After dinner, my toddler wanted to roam around and I walked with her. I like the diner experience and the food was particularly delicious. We'll definitely be coming back.

I think this is my second time here. The one thing that is improved is things were a lot less salty The salad is very fresh and that was a side dish too the chicken pot pie Really nice, I liked it a lot. It is not a big pie so if you come with a really big appetite I suggest getting another dish or maybe and additional side. My partner had I believe the pot rest which was pretty good too and she liked the veggies and everything. The only flaw was she had ordered corn muffin and it came kind of on the late side but that's okay. All in all plus an atmosphere. Even with a lot of people, there not too noisy because the design breaks up a lot of the sound.

I'm not sure what happened, but this Black Bear Diner has recently gone downhill. Maybe a change in ownership or menu, but I've been going to this location for a few years and won't be going back after visiting last night. The menu is definitely different, with fewer options, and the food was disappointing for all six of my party. I had a burger that was less enjoyable than a quarter pounder from McDonald's, with some of the worst hash browns I've ever had. The rest of the meals were similarly disappointing for everyone, and the service was almost non-existent.

2 stars because the food was prepared just good enough. The employees need customer service training. I placed an online order and it was a 20 minute drive, when I arrived the app said my order was ready. I waited an additional 15 minutes and then randomly an employee ask me “sir are you picking up?” And I respond “ yes, I’ve been waiting for about 15 minutes.” And he tried to hush me and tell me “shhh” so other customers couldn’t hear me. And I said it again “I’ve been waiting.” And he explained they were short staffed..I also explained I work at a restaurant and his attitude was very rude. He gave me my food and I left and a few customers were smiling at me because the encounter was actually funny. Customer service matters…. Be mindful of your customers life.

Very slow service we waited for almost hour for our meal. Do not come here hungry or else you will starved I ordered Caesar salad received garden salad but they give my caesar after I finish the other salad I ask for T-bone steak ‘rare came in well done hard as rock. I return it and they give me medium rare, Vegs all overcooked, mash potatoes are cold. Why served steak if you don’t know how to cook it. Mac Cheese took forever to served as well.
