Opinions de Kokyo Sushi Buffet Hayward
Update: This is still my favorite. All you can eat sushi place but the menu has changed at least three times. They no longer have the premium All you can eat with sake and beer. Still definitely worth it but I prefer the older menus. This is my favorite AYCE sushi in the entire Bay area! Kenzo is normally my go to, but it's hard to beat an AYCE that includes sashimi (all delicious!) and if you go premium beer/sake!!! The staff is friendly and very attentive; most places you have to flag someone down/wait to put in more orders but here it's so easy. The atmosphere is great, you're not squeezed in, each table has great spacing, so you feel like you're not dining with other tables, and the large windows bring in so much great natural light. I highly recommend going here!
This place is a little tricky to get to. You have to walk to the side of the alley and go up stairs/elevator to get to the restaurant. It's a little weird but once you get into the restaurant, definitely has a high end vibe. We were greeted by a nice lady. She seated us outside as per our request since it was a nice day. My husband and I had a good experience here. We ordered some things that were from their specials such as, kanpachi kama (amberjack fish cheek), sea urchin nigiri. And other stuff from the menu such as monk fish liver, sweet shrimp nigiri (with fried heads), sweetheart roll, and lion king roll. All are small portions but with a very nice presentation. Everything had great flavor and high quality as each dish melted in your mouth! I really recommend the Kama as it was perfectly crispy, meaty and not overly seasoned. It doesn't come with rice, so I ordered that separately. It was definitely a pleasant experience and I want to have these dishes again .
We went for the 90 minute lunch Buffett. You're only allowed to order six dishes total for the table. Everything is made to order, which was a nice surprise and helps eliminates waste. We did not upgrade to the premium which includes alcoholic and soft drinks. Also you can opt for the dinner menu, which expands the menu. The variety of food is quite nice. I enjoyed getting skewers and glad they had them. In general sushi orders take quite a bit of time to fulfill and having quicker options are nice. It would be nice to have a choice between sauced and not sauced for the skewers to add some variety. That should be easy to include. They have sushi rolls, nigiri's, and hand rolls. Most are popular rolls that you will easily recognize. To help save time they pre-cut the fish. So the rolls come out pretty quickly with the army of 4 rollers taking on 10+ tables. Outside there is a cool garden area where you can take photos or buy plants. The luncheon ended with two very very full bellies.
Beautiful place, sashimi soo good , all food served were good ! Cathy our server was so nice . Price is a good deal for all you can eat sushi, sashimi , etc . My husband ordered ramen soup was good too.
This place was amazing. Jason was a great host and the food came out quickly. Sake was both warm and cold. Great value. Can't ask for a better dinner spot. Can't belive it's all you can eat, it's better than the places that charge per plate. Only one catch - eat all the food you get! Don't get alot of food and leave it you will get looks.
For being an all you can eat sushi buffet, the options are pretty wide considering a lot of the ingredients are shared. The unagi don was tasty. So was the fried California roll. I would absolutely come get those again. My biggest complaint was the soy sauce container spilled on the table when I tried to pour it.
Such a value for the price. Not your typical buffet, everything was made to order, some items took a good while and some orders never made it to our table. They were super busy with a line out the door on Friday night so we didn’t mind the service issues at all bc the staff tried their best. We ordered the omakase and tried a lot of other items like tempura, skewers, sushi rolls, baked mussels and everything was delicious! We’ll definitely return for more.
This restaurant has AYCE sushi menu option, which is a preferred option if you love Sashimi and the Skewers. This restaurant is not really traditional japanese sushi restaurant. The skewer seems like not the Kusiyaki, it is more like BBQ stuff. The environment is nice and quiet, but the background music playing some sort of Chinese songs instead of Japanese or japan themed songs. That is really odd compare to other sushi restaurant.
Recently moved to Hayward from Fremont, and was asked to give this recommendation a try. I was really impressed with the quality of their seafood and the speed of service. The staff were all very nice and welcoming, which is major in the food industry. Started off with the Omakase box, pork belly skewers, miso soup, gyudon, potstickers, and chicken karaage. Everything was a hit! My favorite had to be the pork belly. I'm not sure what the sauce was, but it's was sticky, sweet, and delicious. I ended my order with a few other rolls that were extremely satisfying. Everything ordered was shared family style, and we were beyond stuffed. $200+ for a group of 4, with all the food we ordered, is a steal compared to full menu restaurants.
Great AYCE at a very affordable price. Highly recommend to try Omakase box, great variety of sashimi and quality taste. My fav is the oyster screwer. Ordered 10+ times just for that. Big shout out to the amazing waitress who is super attentive despite how busy the place is. +1⭐️ Will definitely return again.
Beware: the ordering system is quite convoluted and confusing. I was initially close to walking out because it just felt so stingy; I had repeatedly considered taking a star off for the annoyance but five stars is only fair The quality of the food is FANTASTIC. Their menu isn’t huge, they don’t do a lot but they do everything so god damn well. I’m not going to wax about the specific dishes, just go try it and enjoy. I need to make one recommendation though: the Gambler’s Roll. Wait staff was incredibly nice and patient. I’m a little embarrassed that I was short tempered when they first introduced the ordering rules to me. Tip them well, they are stellar.
If you have the cravings for sushi, this is the place. All you can eat Dinner $40 include sodas or $45 including beer, sake, and sodas. Review again 4/15. I have to reduced the rating sorry Hinata. Price increases obviously because of inflation and cost of supplies but menu reduced significantly. No more wagu beef, unagi, oysters, and many other fav items removed. Price increased and services are slow. Only comparing to my original review.
Hinata Sushi Kitchen is honestly one of the best finds I’ve ever made. The price is about $35 per person, which is such a great deal considering the quality of sushi you get. They have this omakase box that comes with the best cuts, and they even give one free box for the whole table. They don’t skimp on anything, and everything tastes fresh and perfectly prepared. I love that the service is super fast and smooth, and the restaurant never really feels too crowded, even on special occasions. I’ve been there about seven times already, and every visit has been just as enjoyable as the first. I honestly never get tired of it. The vibe of the place is also really fun and welcoming. I’ve even won two plushies from their claw machine, which was such a cute bonus. The chefs are clearly skilled and passionate about what they do, and the wait staff is incredibly friendly and attentive. They even remember us by name now, which makes it feel personal and special every time we visit. Between the amazing sushi, the great service, and the fun little extras, Hinata Sushi Kitchen has quickly become one of my favorite spots. I can’t recommend it enough.
Solid AYCE sushi spot. The fish dishes were fresh and well prepared. The omakase box was chef’s kiss. I also tried the mini ramen and enjoyed it, and the meat dishes were solid too. They have free parking in the back, and it’s also an easy walk to Hayward BART🍣🐟
My friends 🤝this place is amazing, came for dinner it is super beautiful the atmosphere is amazing calm and enjoyable. Now the foood I could cry if I could 😅🥰🥰😍 it was very delicious we enjoyed our sushi!! We also ordered sushi that had zero soy 👌 so what's stopping yall to come to this place!! Nothing 🥰❤️. I loved the service they are really amazing and I wish I could give them a 10 star 🌟!!
I was a little bummed that only bigger parties were allowed to sit near the window, but the quality of everything I ate (right down to the grilled eggplant) was sublime, and the service was exceptional. Will definitely be returning to have many more cozy Saturday Sushi nights here!
Hinata Sushi in Hayward offers a dining experience rooted in quality and simplicity. The salmon sushi was fresh and well-prepared, a reminder that great ingredients need little embellishment. The Omakase box provided a well-curated selection, each piece speaking for itself. The beef skewers were flavorful and satisfying, and even the fries—an unexpected addition—were crisp and enjoyable, enhanced by a variety of well-balanced sauces. The atmosphere was relaxed, and sharing the meal with a best friend made it all the more worthwhile. Good food, good company—nothing more is needed.
Decent food and not overpriced! No wait if you come at 4pm on the weekend. The mane item is a little limited, otherwise it’s pretty good for the price. The skewer sometimes over cooked, too dry.
First time at all you can eat sushi spot. Everything was fine. Sushi was fresh. Only thing was I'm not a all you can eat person. Take my wife there to try it. Service was great as well. Wish there was a door at the entrance. The day my wife and I went is was hot and the place was kind of warm at the area where we sat.
I would say that this all-you-can-eat sushi restaurant has exceeded my expectations. The food was delicious and fresh, with a wide variety of sushi rolls to choose from. The service was exceptional - the staff were attentive and accommodating. The dining environment was pleasant and comfortable, which made for a very enjoyable dining experience. Overall, I highly recommend this sushi restaurant to anyone looking for great food, great service, and a great atmosphere.
Came here for my mom's birthday and we had a great time. Our server was very attentive and also spoke Cantonese which was nice! We ordered sooo many sashimi's and all was so fresh & delicious. My mouth is watering just thinking about it again 🤤🤤🤤 this is my opinion, take what you want from it Overall Rating 10/10
Things have changed a lot since I last came here (5+ years ago). At $40/person you get all you can eat sushi, skewers, and appetizers, among other things. Be sure to get the omakase box. Quality is decent for AYCE sushi and the new ordering system is efficient. I came in the early afternoon on the weekend and the place was only a third full. The staff was very attentive and orders were filled fast.
I was a little hesitant at first because going by the reviews, the experiences were hit and miss. We went on a weeknight and the dining room was only about half full. The quality of the food was actually very good IMO. Staff was friendly and the dining room was comfortable and clean. The sashimi overall was very fresh, we ordered the sashimi platter and the mystery box. They oysters tasted very fresh too. The rolls were also on par with a good sushi house so there were no complaints from the kids. As we walked in I looked at the fish at the sushi bar and everything looked well stocked and fresh. The staff was actually very attentive and didn’t hold us to any reordering time checks. In fact, for us they often came back while we were still eating and asked us if we were ready to order our next round. We definitely didn’t feel like we were restricted and we were all full when we were done. I really liked the dining room because it isn’t overly packed. There was room between you and other patrons around you. I appreciate that because it just makes for a more pleasant eating experience. There also was a balcony that wasn’t used while we were there. Not sure if that’s used when it’s busier but it’s wired that the tables and chairs there are very low to the ground. As for value, I would say this is a good value if you can avoid the peak times so the food arrives quickly and the you are able to order at your leisure. What we spent was not that much more than what our family would spend on a typical Japanese restaurant outing so this is definitely someplace that we would come back to in the future.

Really amazing quality for AYCE! In particular the Tuna quality was really high, and they had some kind of chu-toro or otoro in their sashimi omakase box?! Anyways, amazing AYCE sushi for $42 and the sides were also very yummy!

When we are in hayward, we always stop by this place. But over the past 2.5 years, it has changed from being a buffet to all you can eat sushi only. The food was great. There are a few foods that you can only order once. Our server was okay, but it took her a while to come back to get our orders. It's a bit pricy. We probably will not go back.
The atmosphere at Hinata Sushi Kitchen is decent, nothing upscale. However, the staff is accommodating, and attentive. Food wise, I'm pleasantly surprised with the food quality! The quality of fish was great and tasted fresh. Also loved the eggplant skewers and would recommend ordering those. For AYCE, the price is pretty decent too for the quality. Overall, Hinata Sushi provides a great AYCE dining experience for sushi lovers seeking great quality Japanese cuisine.
Came here on a Friday night around 6 pm and there were a couple tables available inside but you could tell it was starting to get busy. We got the adult ayce premium which for $5 more you get unlimited beer, sake, and soft drinks. The beer was whatever they had available. Service was great, our server checked in on us about 3 times during the 90 minute window, so I feel like ordering at ultra is a bit quicker. The sashimi and food was pretty solid, with my favorites being the toro nigiri and sashimi. We ordered other sushi rolls but they were just ok nothing too crazy. There are a lot of parking lots near the restaurant so parking is no problem here, you also either take the stairs or elevator up. This place is pretty good for ayce sushi, but I definitely wouldn’t wait too long to eat here.
This is a AYCE sushi restaurant with options to purchase premium items for a small upcharge. You get 90 minutes to finish and get to order 3 items per person every 10 minutes. Some planning is required to optimize but you will be pretty full by round 5 or 6. Nigiri rice balls are reasonably sized. Nigiri and sashimi selection is a bit limited in variety. Their kushiyaki appeared to be fried rather than grilled. Dessert menu is lacking though you will probably be stuffed!
Ordering is a bit complicated, your server will help with what and when you can reorder various dishes, but there is a good selection of fresh, delicious items. Also some cooked or grilled items. The wasabi was a bit weak on our 1st visit but much improved on the 2nd. Definitely worth it! We left stuffed and happy, replete with Sake & much more.
The one-time omakase box was great, but the AYCE fish quality was just okay. Service was prompt, and there's decent variety.
I visited with my mother-in-law and was not disappointed. The sushi was delicious, and if you’re a sushi lover, I would definitely recommend giving this place a try. It is also an all-you-can-eat option, which is a great bonus. The food was excellent overall; however, the service was a bit slow.
This place is great for all you can eat sushi! There are two separate rates for the all you can eat. One is $40 and the other $45 (premium). With the premium you get all you can drink sake and beer so if you want to have some alcohol with your food, definitely worth it. The fish here is super fresh and the portions are generous. Large rolls and the cuts of fish are decent too. What is also on the all you can eat menu is Toro, Salmon Belly, + other special cuts and even Sashimi! Incredible! The specialized rolls menu is not super extensive but every roll is pretty damn good but do wish there was more of a selection there. The ambiance and overall atmosphere is really cool because it’s situated on a second story overlooking the streets and gives a better view than just being street level. The only reason I did not give this place 5 stars is because it could be a little bit of time (nothing crazy) for them to realize you need to order again or you have to flag them down. Unfortunately there is no QR code ordering program and it’s all based on the servers taking your order. Highly recommend this place!
This place is a good quality all you can eat sushi. We came 30 min after opening on Saturday evening, and the wait time was pretty short (under 10 min). The food is great, my personal favorite is squid karaage (by far the best). You can choose only 1 item with red star (wague beef, uni, or sashimi box). Oysters were alright, but fresh. Sushi rolls are fresh, don't look at the poctures of rolls in reviews. They recently transitioned to all you can eat and eliminated items you see in reviews (like lowers roll, any item with quil egg). Couple of notes: we came with group, 2 people were not drinking, and 1 was. They don't allow you to get regular price ($40.99 per person), if at least 1 person orders with drink included ($45.99). That was disappointing. Overall, it's a decent place. They also gave cute outside patio with so many flowers where you can wait to be called.
This place used to be a different all you can eat restaurant. This is now Hinata which is all you can eat as well but it’s a smaller selection of rolls, hand rolls, nigiri, sashimi, skewers, and small appetizers plates for $41.99 each person so don’t come here full. If you don’t want to have the AYCE, don’t come here. The whole table or anyone that comes here spends the same amount. Drinks are not included. They also offer alcohol drinks. They also offer small bowls of ramen but I would not go here for ramen. The restaurant is on the 2nd floor by the Cinemark Hayward 16 movie theater. There is an elevator available for handicapped folks. Easy to find. Plenty of street parking or at the free parking lot across the street or the free garage parking in the back. The staff are helpful but they don’t remember who orders what and just puts it on the table. The best one to order here is the Omakase Box which has fresh fish selection. These are the best selection they have. I can just have this but make sure to ask for it. Decent and clean place. Great for large groups as they have plenty of tables. Good for receptions. Came here twice so far for lunch and a dinner but can’t do this often as I feel, I have to eat everything to pay this amount.
Legit sushi buffet! Sashimi quality is above average but not the best....but cmon now, it all you can eat! Been here 3 times and never been disappointed, the omakase is a nice touch but you can also order the sashimi if you want more. The beef n pork skewers were also good, i ordered mine without the teriyaki sauce which can be too sweet sometimes. Overall, great place to go if you're craving sushi! Great staff, nice menu offering, and good atmosphere.
Was looking for a new sushi place and this came across recommendation, the star review was lower, but I read some recent reviews and decided to give it a try. We went dinner time wasn't as busy for a Friday night. We tried the ayce for $39.99/person. They sashimi was pretty fresh which is important for a sushi restaurant. And I love the fact their nigri had small rice portion unlike other sushi places making the rice ball so big. Everything was small sized which was good for us so we were able to try most things and not be filled up with rice only. Service was attentive and friendly which is a plus for Asian restaurant. We also ordered hot sake it went well with the sushi. The only thing they could improve on was the baked mussles, it wasnt very well made, was soggy, felt mush and old. If they keep up the freshness of the sashimi and the rice balls nice and small as they do, We will definitely come back, and recommend all our sushi loving friends to go. There is also parking along the streets, some are paid some are not.

We came for all-you-can-eat sushi, which comes in at under $30/person for lunch most weekdays, before tax/tip. I like that there is a spacious free parking lot nearby. We arrived a little after 12:30pm, and the restaurant remained really packed for hours afterward. By the time we left, there was still a dozen people in the lobby waiting for seats to open. Although it took 15-20min for the waitress to take our very first order, she was pretty good about regularly coming back once the first dish finally made it onto our table. Food itself was unfortunately just ok. Many rolls were disproportionally rice-, mayo-, and sauce-heavy. None of our sushi today came with tobiko, listed on the menu descriptions. Lion King roll was likewise heavy on mayo and rice. Shrimp tempura had an excellent crisp, but the shrimp themselves are very thin and small, making for batter- and oil-heavy bites. Inari nigiri were basic, thin, and tasted too sweet. I found a fish scale in my tuna nigiri. Eggplant skewers were also too sweet- slathered in teriyaki sauce. Pork skewers were too fatty- 3/4 slices were overwhelmingly fat, with pork meat comprising less than 20% of the slice. Miso soup was low on miso and higher on salt to compensate. Tea and soft drinks cost extra, so we made do with hot water. The waitresses were really kind and friendly, but due to the flavors and textures of the food, I wouldn't come back in the future.
Sushi was really good. Had alot of orders, two things that irked us (my uncle and I) was the Omakase was not filled like in the photos of their menu or videos from social media, 2 slices per fish, honestly a disappointment especially you can only order it only once per table. We alleviate that by just ordering separate sashimis. But 3 orders per person. This then brought up another issue, they slowed down the serving after our 2nd order, and it kept getting slower. We ordered 4 rounds. I get it. They are losing money on us lol but still. I had AYCE sushi where they got the food out as quickly as possible (like Sake 2 Me). But this was at 5pm when they just started and we were the only ones there. Went back again (my mother, her partner and myself), omakase was the same, 1 slice per person, this might be how they serve it to everyone which is understandable, unless you got a camer, looks like you are posting for social media so they go old out. However, we were missing the tuna. While the other 2 tables had tamago and a full omakase. The other table that got full omakase is oriental, I don't know if that has to do with anything. They also slowed the plates down after the 2nd order, in which the table got empty for 10 minutes, thus making us lose appetite. The food is good quality, though. They did however gave us a plate that we did not order (volcano roll, a deep fried sushi). Don't know if that was a tactic to make us more full or what. The servers were good and kind. Unfortunately, I feel I was being profiled, which was a big disappointment. TLDR, You might get profiled, which equate to how much food they serve (it happened 2 times) Stay for more than 2 orders. They will serve slower and slower.
Cool place, parking is a little difficult to find. Their menu lacks a little variety, wasn't a huge amount of stuff to pick from. Their prices are 40.99 a person which is I think okay for what they actually offer. The food does take a while to come out. The apps and rolls tastes great and they actually offer sashimi as part of the AYCE which is pretty cool. The sashimi quality tastes like grocery store sashimi. The place was pretty quiet, you can hear people talking but you can still hear the ambience. The service was fine, I didn't get any strong feelings about the servers which is great.
Hinata Sushi is an alright sushi restaurant. I give it 3 stars overall. You can have all you can eat sushi for $41.99 per person. The selection is decent, the portion is fair, but the cut’s pretty thin and that’s why they have more pieces than typical 6 pcs per plate. The location is easy to miss if you arent looking hard enough. Parking is scarce, but there are free parking garage and lot nearby. I don’t really find this place special, but it’s a good meeting place for group of friends wanting sushi.

If you want to eat nigiri you have no options here. I hope you only like tuna or salmon. The rolls lack variety and the appetizers are poorly executed. The sushi box was nice but that is one order per table and we were a bit disappointed in what we got versus what we saw on instagram. It’s the whole reason we made the drive out to Hayward in the first place. Not worth the price tag.
Hinata sushi has it all—- yet they excel at none. This is my second time here, I tried the all you can eat option this time and unfortunately I was quite disappointed again. If you look at the pictures, their chicken karaage did not taste like chicken and the batter was thick and doesn’t look like the karaage I know and love. The hand rolls were good but the fish in comparison to the rice was too little. The unagi did not taste great, the ramen noodles were not fully cooked so there was a bunch of noodles that remained at the bottom because they were hard and stuck together. The food took a looong time to come out in between sessions. And although it looks good, the taste was unfortunately just not there. Everything was underwhelming at best. For the price tag, you can find better options out there.
Nah mate, this was rough. This place is located on the second floor and is wheelchair accessible. A good bit of the raw fish was just flavorless. It looks good but then doesn't taste like anything. The scallops and eel were good here. The hand roll was fun. The tonkatsu was actually pretty good but it didn't come with enough sauce. The baked mussels are wayyyyyy too garlicky. The omakase box looks great and has good flavor to it but then fish count scales with your party size. Save yourself btw and don't get the tempura. It wasn't an enjoyable eat. The rice bowls were actually pretty alright, besides again, the plain raw fish. But they took 2/3 of our stay there to get them out to us. This all wouldn't be too bad but the service was rough. We barely saw any help and had to chase people down. And like they just forgot our order on some items and we had to reorder. The thing is, it's all remote too. Like the website they ask you to order from has buttons to add your order and to call for service and a lot of times it seemed like they didn't pay attention so the wait ordered items wasn't steady.

The food quality and service was good. The food came out at a reasonable pace, and the taste was good. The entry per person is $41, which is hefty, but if you can handle your own, you can definitely make the price worth it. Overall I WOULD have given this place a 3.2/5, however my interaction with our waitress left a sour impression on me, and the overall experience of the restaurant. Our party of 5 gave a pretty decent tip, not the highest, but the minimum I would say, and upon receiving this tip, the waitress with hard to hear English speaking and listening skills demanded that we gave a higher tip. Our tip was around 14% of the total bill, and she was using a calculator and showing us that we should be tipping with 18%, demanding a few more dollars. We gave her another $5, and yet again she said this wasn't enough? Tipping isn't mandatory and it is only mandated in parties of 6 or more, depending on restaurant. On their website it says clearly on their website that parties of 6 or more is a mandated 18% charge. Either our waitress had been informed wrong by her employers, or she was misinformed on tipping, but either way her persistence in demanding a higher tip and bad service overall made the experience terrible and I will not be returning. 0/5 if I could rate 0 stars.
This sushi was quite disappointing. The portion size is extremely small—the box itself is smaller than the size of a hand, which already makes it feel unsubstantial. On top of that, the salmon slices are paper-thin, just a light layer covering the rice, without the satisfying thickness you’d normally expect from salmon sushi. The rice takes up most of the bite, so it feels more like eating a rice ball than actual salmon sushi. Overall, poor value for the price and not something I’d order again.
This sushi is so gross!!! I regret order from there. I spit out some and half of it I didn’t eat. The red tuna was not fresh and had an old smell. I do not think this place gets fresh fish. Feel like I paid for trash.
