Fantastic restaurant with good quality food and first class knowledgeable service. Amelie looked after our group brilliantly, making sure we always had everything we needed!

Came here for a meal with my mother, and we were made to feel so welcome. Rhys/Reece was exceptionally polite. He asked us lots of questions and seemed genuinely interested in getting to know us. The cornish sole was exquisite, and my mother thoroughly enjoyed the bream. We will be back.

Absolutely amazing, my new favourite place to eat. Compliments to the chef and to the staff. The food was like a party in my mouth so many flavours an well balanced. 5*

Had a delicious meal with great service. Shout out to Amelie who looked after us beautifully. We had the sharing platter, the spiced "lamb" was scrumptious, and the lemon sole and cod were fab. Worth saving space for pudding, I really enjoyed the orange brulee. Very nice to sit outside in the evening heat, and then to be able to come inside when it got cooler. Love the sustainable ethos, all restaurants should be like this. We will be coming back...

We had a great time and great food. I accidentally made the reservation for two and we were 4 and they were able to accommodate us, Kieran, our server was kind and personable. I had the trout with ratatouille it was great. It went really well with my brother's linguine that he let me try. Maybe offer it as an optional add on with the trout or as a side? I would have paid extra for it to come with the ratatouille.

If you want a gut busting big plate of food this is probably not for you. If you want beautifully cooked and presented fine dining then this is the place. The missus and I enjoyed a fabulous evening here. My trout was especially delicious. Service great too Thank you

We had a really lovely Valentine's Day at Lussman's. The staff were all exceptionally nice, and the food standard was really terrific. There was a good selection of beers, and the desserts were perhaps the highlight of the meal, with the toffee pudding being a particular delight. I would highly recommend this place to couples on dates; the lighting and decor is perfect. Thank you for helping to make Valentine's Day extra-special!

I came here with my family at the weekend and we all really enjoyed the food. The fish cake and haddock were well cooked. The chocolate moose for dessert was delicious. It was strangely quiet, possibly just due to it being Sunday evening.

Family lunch in the Hitchin heatwave today. Huge appreciation to the staff who made our visit enjoyable. Delightful food and staff. We went with two young kids who each found somethin to suit their picky paletes. Our hostess was a real laugh who patiently explained the quirky decor (loved the clouds on the ceiling). The menu had something for everyone. My vegetarian main was perfect cold weather food.

Lovely menu selection and hearty food. Good three course menu choice for £23.95. Servers attentive and pleasant. The design was good as acoustics worked, soft furnishings and padded ceiling to soften any noise. Very intimate and if I were local I’d become a regular. Lovely example of good value British European plates.

We have enjoyed dining at the St Albans and Harpenden Lussmann’s restaurants, and found the Hitchin branch fantastic as well. We were a mixed age family group with kids and adults celebrating a birthday and we all thoroughly enjoyed the occasion. Food is excellent quality and nicer than many chain places of the same price. Excellent value kids menu too. The staff were extremely attentive and helpful and made us all feel very welcome. Absolutely recommend Lussmann’s for casual dining or a celebration.

Recently visited to celebrate my mums 60th birthday staff were so friendly and kind, went out of their way to make sure it was a special meal to remember. Food was great! Will be returning- highly recommend !

Food was absolutely gorgeous! I cannot stress enough how every item we ordered was cooked to perfection. The mussels were so tasty and the duck was soft cooked with all the right flavours. The gentleman serving us was so friendly and had a great sense of humour. Every restaurant needs a guy like this! My husband took me here for my birthday lunch and I was definitely happy with the delicious food and service! Thank you Lussmans for a wonderful experience and I can’t wait to go back! :-)

Fantastic service, there was a slight mishap with our order but the staff handled it so well! The mishap is not normal for them, as I’ve been there before. Food was delicious as always. Lovely restaurant.

Lovely meal with wife and friend. Table was for 8pm and some menu items were short or gone. Obviously a very busy place. Table was comfortable and service attentive. Food was good. I had whitebait and nice but could do with a little spice. I always add a touch of cayenne. Belly Pork for main which was succulent and really good. Dessert was great too. Would definitely go again.

What an amazing service, you can see that they care. Not just because it's expected of them but because they treated us like guests in their own house. And not just us, but everyone around. Calling taxis for people, making sure that everyone is comfortable and enjoying the experience. Taking time to speak to us! Fife stars, 6 if it was possible!

Great sunday lunch for 3. The place was quite so a very relaxed atmosphere. The service was fantastic and food was delivered quickly. Dishes were good if not memorable. £129 for 3 set menus + drinks+ deserts. Not cheap but enjoyable.

Been coming here for a long time and it never disappoints. Until now. Service absolutely great as ever but the food really disappointed. Lukewarm soup had to be reheated, fish with batter slightly overdone (and fish inside was average), plain green salad had way too much going on. Couldn’t eat most of it - maybe a bad night or perhaps a change of sous/salad chef? Will give it the benefit of the doubt and try again to see if this was just a one off as it’s not been anything but great in the 5 years we’ve frequented.

Nothing special to write home about, I had the Pork collar, but had to order vegetables separately to make it a complete meal( one of my pet hates) Wife had a steak , but totally swamped in a lemon butter sauce… Plus has to be said a very limited choice on menu. Plus 12.5% service charge..! First time at Lussmans, but not much to make me return anytime soon…

Lovely atmosphere with the open doors onto the balmy street, staff were really friendly and helpful. Food was ok but fish dishes were poor - the mackerel was burnt and overcooked and the sole had far too much butter for my taste. Given the price of the meal, we’d probably go somewhere else in future. Which is a shame as it has a lot of potential

Really friendly staff and nice enough atmosphere but sadly really poor food. All our starters were tiny, poorly presented and tasted very average and mains were pretty flavourless. The set menu price wasn't bad but it seemed like an attempt at fine dining just so they could serve small portions instead of high quality dishes. Wouldn't return or recommend which is a shame because the staff were lovely.

Sad to say I had a very mediocre and disappointing experience here. First off, the “scallops” turned out to be scalloped mushrooms. Maybe we misread the menu, but it definitely was misleading. The schnitzel was shockingly poor. It arrived already cut into. Whether it was to check the temperature or not, it’s completely unprofessional to serve a main course pre-cut. Furthermore, no sauce, no effort, and a bland rocket salad that added nothing. The pork collar was also disappointing. The flavours didn’t come together, the slaw was mediocre, and the sauce was aggressively acidic. The pork was cooked okay. On the plus side, the service was friendly and the atmosphere relaxed, but that should be expected, especially with the service charge added. Overall, I wouldn’t recommend. I had a great meal here about six years ago, but this time it felt like an overpriced restaurant serving subpar food. There’s little to no French influence on the menu, and it doesn’t deserve to be called a brasserie.

This was not a great experience. Having to ask for drinks, steak was small and average taste, more like a minute steak. The batter on the fish was greasy. They absolutely had the audacity to add a service charge.

We went as a large table for our Xmas meal. Unfortunately my colleagues schnitzel was under cooked, looked like it had come out of the chiller and was not cooked throughout. Considering we spent £70/head, disappointed.

Cant say i will be going back. Had the fishcake and paid extra £1.50 for a poached egg to have that lovely runny egg over the fish cake. The fishcake with spinach was £19.45 including the egg. I was told mash was with it but had to pay extra for veg or more mash. I went with spring greens for £4.95. So the poached egg was hard but they brought me another but no runny egg experience. I then had a fish bone to be told they cant guaruntee no bones. So if i had the shephards pie and found bone would the answer have been well its lamb we cant guaruntee no bone? I then found a bigger bone and thats where i finished my meal. Oh and no mash as promised. No where on the menu said the fish cake may have bones. To be honest any decent chef would be saying of course we dont have bones in our fishcakes! So i had dessert which i had to wait ages for to order and had a small but perfectly formed cicle of cheese cake with a spoonful of rhubarb. For £8.50 no cream or ice cream offered and some chopped ginger i didnt want. At least i think it was ginger i dont like ginger so didnt try it. My bill came, the service charge was circled in red no idea why as i am able to read. Because of the bones the £4.95 for the side was deducted. I wont be going back i was told they hope i change my mind i told them i wont. On the positive side the waiter was lovely and so was the food and i ate most of the main before the second bone appeared. But the cost was not worth it. When i commented on the price before i ordered the fish cake i was told it was quite a large fish cake. I guess compared to a pound coin it was.

Just fish and chips or better batter and chips.Very little fish,maybe 1cm thick but mainly batter not least the last 10cms, all batter.What fish there was was dry and overcooked,or left on a shelf overnight. Friend's pork was very dry. "I'll tell the chef " was the throwaway response from our waiter who smiled when he had to. The Cock in the High St is far better.... Don't see us rushing back for that!
