Very tasty food, good although fairly relaxed afternoon service. Happened to be in on "half price steak" day which was a bonus. Because of this I had the Fillet and it was one of the best steaks I've had in a long time! The brandy pepper sauce was very good and could not taste the brandy (a good thing IMO) Recommend!

We have recently visited several time over the christmas and new year with my 2 dogs (gracie and Betty for the people we met) and my partner. The staff have been very nice, helpful in regards to the dogs and all round lovely! The bar area is relaxed and chatty in retaliation to the restaurant which is very well tuck away so you have the meal your after. Thank you for the hospitality

I went here on Sunday with my Husband and Stepson. I had the roast pork and I would say it was the best roast I have had in ages! I have had some very disappointing ones at different establishments recently. My Husband and Stepson had the lamb shank which they both said was delicious. The staff were lovely and there was a very nice atmosphere with a live singer in the background

Nice pub, good beer, great ambience.

We now regularly enjoy the French Horn, and it’s great to have a busy local with a friendly atmosphere and cosy bar. The food is great, especially the Sunday roasts and Burgers. A highlight is the monthly quiz night! Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for just a drink, or a proper pub meal!

My partner and I visited for a Sunday roast, I had roast beef and my partner the roast pork. Both were delicious with very generous portions. We'll definitely be back !

We provided our services for a private party at the French Horn in November 2025. The pub and staff were wonderful and we'd be very happy to entertain here again in the future Sonik Wave Mobile Disco Socials: Sonik Wave Mobile Disco

We go here for Sunday lunch on a regular basis now as the food is excellent. You get good sized portions, though extra roast potatoes are a must. Selection and menu are very good and the seating comfortable. They also have decent wine.

Had a great Sunday lunch. Good to see the pub and restaurant doing so well after lockdown. Relaxed atmosphere and staff who were eager to help and had a natural smile! A nice touch was being asked how we would like our beef roast cooked. Very good value for money. We will be back again.

Great experience, we booked for Sunday lunch, and as a party of 13 adults, 1 baby and 2 dogs, I think the staff accommodated us well. Obviously we couldn't take the dogs in the restaurant area, but after juggling a few tables, they seated us in the bar area. The staff were pleasant and welcoming, drinks and food orders were taken in a nice relaxed pace, not feeling rushed at all. The Sunday menu options were more than adequate, ranging from full roasts, Lamb, beef or pork to burgers, scampi or sausage and mash with seasonal veg ( the latter was delicious I might add). The decor throughout was light and clean, and the lighting was good ( not always the case in older country pubs. There were a number of bench style tables outside at the front, i didn't actually notice if there was a rear garden. Overall we had a lovely lunch, everyone commented on how nice the food was. There was a number of takers in our party for deserts. The adjacent bar had a TV showing sky sports (not for everyone, but a nice option to have). The toilets were clean and in good order. The drink options were plentiful. Would definitely return. Thanks.

There is always a cozy atmosphere here which I enjoy. The steak night offer (Wednesday) is fantastic! What a great fillet steak it is too… 😋

The bar area in the evening is beautiful with the fairy lights! Aaron found us a seat quickly and got our drinks started. The food was lovely. Aaron and Sophie were both very attentive and checked in shortly after receiving each course. I could see other guests that evening were having a lovely time too. Good music and a relaxed warm atmosphere. The garden area at the front will be fantastic in summer too. Overall we had a lovely visit, enjoyed some good food and I would come back again! Thank you Steve the chef and the team at French Horn.

First time visiting this beautiful place and it certainly won’t be the last! The standards at The French Horn are very high, starting from the moment you arrive. The lovely staff give you such a warm and genuine welcome - everyone was attentive, friendly, and made us feel instantly at home. Our table by the window was fantastic. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, and the natural light made the setting feel bright and relaxed. The food was absolutely delicious - fresh, full of flavour, and the portions were perfect (especially if you arrive hungry like I did!). The Sunday roast was very traditional yet had a bespoke touch, which really showcased the kitchen’s originality and attention to flavour. The staff were brilliant throughout. Everyone had a smile on their face, and you could clearly see the genuine camaraderie between the team. We felt very well looked after and loved how they engaged with us to make the whole experience even more enjoyable. A special shout-out to Louise, who primarily looked after our table. Her smile is contagious, and it was lovely to see how warmly and attentively she interacted with every table. Thank you for having us today - we’ll most certainly be back very soon, this time with the whole family. Well done to the management and ownership team, and keep up the fantastic work!

What a fantastic Valentine's meal we had last night, the best we've had anywhere in a long while. Thanks to Jean-claude and his team. The hospitality is second to none. It is so warm when you arrive, in every sense of the word and the menu is vast and varied. The quality of food is excellent. Can't fault the place. Thanks once again, we will be back and usually are for lunch with our dog (Mollie). friendly place

We had a lovely roast dinner on Sunday Dec 3rd for 3 people. The food was very nice and could have been a bit hotter ( the roast potatoes were hot ) but we did have a bit of a long wait as well on this occasion and the restaurant wasn't that busy . The waitress was lovely.

We held my dads wake at this wonderful pub. We were given the main resturaunt area for exclusive use. Because it's small pub and the wake was midweek there weren't any members of the public other than in the other section which is completely seperate and allowed us to gather with friends and family and not feel like we were in anyone's way. The staff were all wonderful, really polite and friendly and the service was great. The food for the hot and cold buffet was also fantastic, the hot food was being cooked fresh through out the wake so it was actually hot when it came to being eaten. The team were super attentive and made sure anything that looked low was being topped up including teas and coffees. They also accomodated for music choices and some personal touches with a picture of my dad and a glass of whiskey beside it. Really compassionate and lovely place to hold the send off for my dad. Thank you!

First time visiting tonight. Apart from a bit of a delay from ordering to receiving food (which they were very apologetic for and were clearly rushed off their feet due to the great weather) the overall experience was really good. We went on Burger night and the burgers were absolutely great. The portion sizes were good and the food cooked to perfection. The staff although rushed off their feet were very attentive without being intrusive. Both my wife and myself really enjoyed the experience. The pub was very clean and is dog friendly which is nice. We will definitely be back. Thank you.

Came here yesterday afternoon as we drove past on an off chance and decided to see if we could get a Sunday roast. Firstly this is a lovely pub, really ambient and cosy and warm! The staff were super polite and considering we had not booked they were very accommodating and we had a table in less than the time it took us to finish a drink by the bar. We each had the roast and it was really lovely, just good quality delicious food and I would absolutely come back here again. Was a really lovely experience and I would absolutely recommend it to anyone!

10/10 experience today. All the staff were very polite, kind and accommodating. Food was delicious and they even let us stay late as we were talking away and didn't notice the time. 100% would book again.

Honestly, a lovely pub, great food and smashing service apart from Louise. She was even better than that, she went the extra mile with personality and service, a real credit to the establishment! Thank you!

Enjoyed a lovely Sunday lunch (veggie option), perfect sized portion and nicely cooked although personally I prefer my roasties a bit crispier! Restaurant has a comfortable, rustic feel to it and service was good The desserts - Cranachan cheesecake and Chocolate mousse were divine!

A proper pub. Friendly, polite and quick service in the restaurant. Food is well made and nicely presented. Menu options are good. Prices are very reasonable. The bar area is relaxed with a nice log burner. Dogs are allowed and also lovely to see them in there. Parking is decent.

The main courses are tasty & a good size. The interior decor is a bit bland & lacks character. Food slightly overpriced

I came to this place based on its excellent google reviews. The menu and food did not disappoint! I was a little annoyed that i wasnt offered the specials by my server and after i had ordered a different server offered the table next to me - garlic king prawns tail on and 10oz rump - sounds amazing! I had snails for the first time, tasted like chewy dirt but that was taste preference. They were cooked to perfection, my chicken kiev was the best ive ever tasted and the vegetables..... makes me want to move closer 😂 The staff were friendly, attentitve although they were so busy as it was a saturday evening. Drinks and food reasonably priced. If i lived closer i would be here every week. 10/10 for food. 4/5 for service.

Lovely pub. Staff were lovely and the service was spot on. The food was very good, my only gripe was the roast potatoes which were pretty average and few in number. Definately visit again.

Quite good food. Well cooked but chips could’ve done with being a bit crispier. Slow but friendly service.

Food was very nice, staff pleasant & friendly. Bit sparse on the decor, could have done with a few more pictures or bits on the walls to make it feel more cosy & inviting. I was surprised they were not full up for a sat evening as food was good. Found it difficult to always hear what others on my table were saying due to the background noise from people talking on other tables, so was just as well only half the tables were in use.

Visited the pub for the first time on 23rd August for dinner for a group of 4. Easy to find, big car park and quite a big pub. No real person to greet you but the restaurant was easy to find. The menu is not extensive but we all found something to choose, I am gluten and dairy free so had look ahead and chosen to have the vegan curry, however the very nice waiter said there wasn't any which left me very restricted in my choices. However, all the food was very tasty, very good portions and the VE/GV brownie was excellent. We weren't rushed and the young lad looking after everyone did a fantastic job, he was very polite. Good value too so definitely worth a visit!

Lovely sandwich and pint at lunchtime. Chunky chips are really chunky!! We used to enjoy sitting in the bar on the comfy chairs and sofas, pity they have gone. August 2023 - just went back for lunch today, no sandwiches or chips on the menu and for a Friday lunchtime there were only 4 tables of people in. We had crisps and a pint. What a shame that they have stopped serving lunchtime pub grub.

Been to the French horn many times under previous ownership and loved it, but today was my first visit and was really disappointed with the changes made by Greene King. The dining room has lost all charm and is now a boring, basic square room with tables in. No paintings, no soft furnishings, it felt really lifeless sadly. Not all bad - Food was tasty, dessert portions were very generous and prices were good too but the atmosphere in the dining room was nothing compared to what it was previously sadly. A shame to lose a local gem.

We didn't eat, here but went in for a drink on a Sunday, about 3pm friendly polite staff, and a well stocked bar, old beams and an open fire not lit as it was a mild day, chesterfield sofas and wing back chairs, and plenty of tables. Seats at the bar were a big plus. Sadly no atmosphere or vibe and no music. I don't mean nightclub proportions, but no piped easy listening music. It's okay just a bit soul less. There is a restaurant, plus a bar for watching sport. Would return, but you did ask.

The fact that is was a meal I hadn't had to cook myself it was enjoyable. However, not sure how they managed it but the starter and the chips on the main course were nuclear hot! Service was great.

First visit to the French Horn and sad to say will be our last. Staff are friendly and polite however service very slow. I ordered the chicken curry which was very bland. There is no atmosphere the dining area is very noisy perhaps a few soft furnishings would help absorb the noise.

Great food, poor service! Four of us went for Saturday lunch yesterday. Clearly this is a high end restaurant and as such expectations were high. We were given a good table with beautiful views over the gardens and river. Initial service ordering drinks was good. We ordered a number of different starters and I have to say that they were excellent in both presentation and quality of food. We had a similar experience with the mains which were equally excellent. The deserts were a little disappointing, the soufflé wasn't as fluffy as it should have been and the creme brûlée presentation was very average. That said, I have given the food a 5* rating. Sadly the service was somewhat lacking. We were constantly having to ask for wine/water refills as the waiters were not at all attentive. Only the maitre d seemed to understand the meaning of service which was very disappointing for a restaurant of this level. Let's be clear, we had a wonderful lunch with excellent food. I just don't expect such poor service when you are paying premium prices.

Lovely looking place, very friendly staff. Went for a Sunday lunch and to be honest, was disappointed to say the least. I last ate here about 2 years ago and loved it.but this time around the roasts had been sitting around all afternoon and the skin was like leather, beef its self was okay, but the rest was not up to standard unfortunately. Apparently its under new management as of recent.

We went on a Sunday which had a special Sunday menu. Lovely place to go for a meal, great service and food. However the pub advertises that they do Gluten Free options, just tell them. Very disappointing as they just took the item which had Gluten in it off the plate for the main dish. I.e we had the roast beef dinner with roast potatoes, seasonal veg and beef, Yorkshire Pudding. No Yorkshire Pudding for the Gluten Free dinner. Only 1 option of GF brownie for dessert.

I am a pub blogger, my next pub blog was going to be able The French Horn in Steppinglee Village, which had lovely old beams, which I felt would have a rich history, I approached the woman behind the bar to ask for and leaflets or history information about the pub to be told that she quote "I have no idea!" Should I check online for the history about this lovely pub I asked awkwardly ?, she just shrugged her shoulder saying "I don't think you will find much" I think it's a shame that there wasn't more enthusiasm or interest about the social history of this gorgeous place. A young girl ended up showing me some old photos on the wall but didn't really feel about they were too bothered about the heritage of the place they work in. But the Guinness was decent enough, thanks!

We went once as we are new to the area. A lot more expensive than ANY OTHER green king I have been to before. Nice atmosphere. Loved all the girls that worked here. Always called you sir which is really nice. I do remember they forgot about our food order and when I went to the bar (after an hour) and said not to bother with it and asked for a refund the manager or owner came out and said you could have shouted? At the time I just couldn't believe it. I shouldn't have to shout for my food in a restaurant... unbelievable. Not sure I would go again due to this. Shame really.

Can't knock the staff, and I did get my burger taken off the bill. I'm all for a small menu, but with that, I would expect a much higher standard of food quality and presentation for the prices being charged. £16.50 for a burger. The photo shows what I ate. Partner had scampy and chips, over cooked, possibly dirty fryer fat? (it tasted of onions) and itty bitty scampy. Looking around at other dinners I was not tempted to go back. (Sorry, I know everyone is earning hard, but feedback here is required)

J
Jackie Walters

Limited menu unless you like burgers. Food was very average. Had the scampi and chunky chips which took chunkiness to a new level. Each chip was the size of 2 fish fingers stacked together. Not particularly appetizing. Staff friendly and service good.

T

This has got to be the most disappointing experience, after living in Tingrith and using the pub on a regular basis for food in the past. We were staying in Flitwick Manor so decided to book Sunday lunch, well, what a disappointment to say the least. The wait for food was over 1 hour, the service was slow, the glasses serving the drinks were filthy, the food was lukewarm, the portion of cauliflower cheese which is a must on a roast was teaspoon size, the floor was filthy in the restaurant with food all over it, the furniture and decor now looks like it’s out of the ark, so will not be ever returning!!
