Great atmosphere and great food!! The service is pretty fast and food is not only really good, but it’s plated beautifully! We had Rob as our server, very friendly and hospitable. He made sure we were really taken care of! Will be back! Very lovely place indeed. :)
Booked a table for two at very short notice on new years day (01/01/2026),Very grateful that we choose The Bull and Horseshoes for our New Years Day mid day meal, upon entering the pub ,immediately felt the warm and cosy atmosphere, and was met by a very charming host who was so happy and pleasant in her manner towards us,was then shown to our table ,which I had requested on booking be by a window, which had a nice view from it across a farm field,,the interior of the pub is decorated in a very classy style, very traditional, very spacious,a perfectly comfortable and content place to dine..I can't say enough good things about our server "Rob",who was so engaging in conversation,so attentive to our requirements,so polite,so friendly, so professional, summed up here made our dining experience at The Bull and Horseshoes even more special..The food was cooked to absolute perfection and was utterly delicious 😋. I would throughly recommend this wonderful establishment for dining any time of the day, they also have live music and quiz nights on specific nights.10 out of 10 for all elements of our dining experience there..Thankyou to the staff brilliant job done by all.
I would highly recommend the Three Horseshoes Hooks Cross. The menu was extensive and a brilliant choice to suit all appetites. Rob was very attentive and cheerful despite the pub being very busy. Our food was piping hot and we didn't have to wait long. The steak and ale pie was exceptional and the lemon meringue desserts were delightful. Would also recommend the Australian Grapeful Dead Chardonnay. Thank you for a brilliant lunch! See you soon
We visited The Three Horseshoes on a Thursday. The ABBA night had been postponed so it was a nice, quiet, intimate evening. The staff were very accommodating as one in our party had visual impairment needs. There were two menus. One, the regular, the other, a special Octoberfest menu which included many delicious dishes. The waiting staff were very helpful and patient. Noise levels were more than acceptable. We could hear ourselves and conversation was very easy. We had a main course and pudding. The pudding was exceptional. An orange truffle with a splendid profiterole. Sometimes, a profiterole is just too enormous. This dish valued taste over, more. I cannot recommend it enough.
Came for roast on sunday was so good came again for lunch today. Rob was fantastic and the food was great too. I would definitely recommend.
Rob was brilliant and very attentive. Made sure we were good with drinks and food. Food was brilliant the rib eye was cooked very well and drinks came very quickly. Sat in front of the fireplace which warmed us up on a cold day.
We took our disabled nephew to the Three Horseshoes today for a Birthday lunch. We were looked after mainly by Rob who was attentive, kind and helpful. Other members of the team helped with serving food and drinks. The atmosphere was calm and not at all pushy. The food was served in a timely way and was hot and well presented. We were allowed to take a birthday cake in and it was brought out with the candles alight and the team joined in with singing Happy Birthday. There is ample parking with provision for disabled vehicles. It is very wheelchair friendly so no problems in that area. There is also a lovely outside seating area with a feature pond with a fountain and terrapins. A totally positive experience for all five of us with particular thanks to Rob on this occasion. Obviously, we will return.
Went with a friend for a pre Christmas lunch. It was decorated beautifully and felt very festive. We were served by Rob, who is friendly, attentive and professional. The food was wonderful and so was the Malbec.
Food very good and all out on time for our whole party Waiter gentleman who has been there for years is amazing. I only come once a year or so and he still recognized me! Lovely to have a friendly, smiling, personal welcome - that makes such a difference. Many thanks to him
We had our work Christmas-do here yesterday, and everything was excellent! Service was great for our large party of 17 people, pub is beautifully decorated for the festive season, and most importantly all the food from the 3-course festive menu was delicious! Thank you to the staff at Three Horseshoes for a memorable evening! Highly recommend.
My wife and I visited here for the first time today for lunch around 12:30. Although it was busier than usual, as our server Rob mentioned, we had no problem getting a table as walk-in guests and were able to park without any issues. There was a good selection on the menu. We had hoped for a lunchtime menu with cold sandwiches, but instead chose the four small plates offer, which turned out to be just right for lunch. Rob was brilliant from the outset - he couldn’t have been more attentive, and nothing was too much trouble. I’ll definitely be back and would highly recommend it to others.
I celebrated my 60th Birthday today with lunch here with family. The food was delicious, I had the roast lamb, but everyone commented on how nice their meals were. The service was fabulous, our waitress (apologies as I couldn't remember her name) was lovely and attentive and nothing was too much trouble. I have been coming here for years and always had a lovely meal and good service. My thanks to everyone.
We have visited the 3 Horseshoes on a few occasions now as our parents live nearby. They have always been amazing in helping myself and my sister as my dad was in a wheelchair so bookings were more tricky. The food and service is AMAZING. They also helped us to organise dads 80th birthday even though we were 2 hours away when planning it. And recently Rob was there when we visited to organise a wake. He was kind, understanding and so helpful. Nothing but praise for the pub.
I used to have Sunday lunch here a long time ago when I lived in Stevenage so it was nice to have an opportunity to visit it with Wifey for lunch as we passed through. It was a Wednesday lunchtime so not too busy. We were quickly greeted and seated. The lighting is subdued so Wifey had to use the torch on her phone to read it. I had my back to the window so managed without. Our waiter asked about drinks and we ordered coffees. When he brought them within minutes he asked if we were ready to order. We were still working our way through the menu. He said he would be back. On his return he answered some questions honestly which guided my decision so I had the fish and chips (as usual 🙄) and Wifey had the chicken and mushroom pie with mash. Both meals came quickly and were a good size, nice and hot and freshly cooked. My fish was lovely and creamy with a nice crisp batter. The chicken pie was well filled with a nice suet casing and crispy pastry top. Within a few minutes of us putting our knives down the waiter checked to see if we needed anything else but we had to crack on so just got the bill. All in all a great meal with great service. My one suggestion would be to allow the diners a few more minutes. Yes the service was excellent and prompt but mid week when speedy service and turn around isn't a priority just allow customers to pause for a breath. I know I will certainly pop in again.
We had a lovely time with our son who we haven’t seen for awhile. We were made most welcome by our server Rob. Very courteous and professional. Food was very nice and the right size portions. We will be back again. Thank you.
Really lovely pub food, good service and nicely decorated. We didn't use the garden as it's a bit cold but the garden seating area looks lovely and we will definitely return in the summer to spend time out there. I had the market fish with extra broccoli on the side. It was very tasty! We also really appreciated the gluten free menu as we had a coeliac in our party.
Beautiful new refurbishment, staff, service, environment and food was impeccable!!!!!!! Not a fault. Slightly high price end but you won't be disappointed with the quality and standard of the food!!! 10/10. Fantastic.
I had lunch here, lovely place, the outside surroundings were lovely, fountain ⛲️ in the background, good idea 💡 especially on a sunny day. The staff ,very presentable & professional, drinks, Absolutely perfect, Peroni on draft. The Mains, a trio of Roasts Inc striploin of Beef, Pork loin & Half Roast Chicken , tenderstem Brocoli, buttered carrots & Red Cabbage, Roast potatoes, stuffing, crackling & yorkie. Sounds lovely, well some of it was & some wasn't. Beef was spot on(Rare), pork loin(Tender), Chicken(perfect), the veg let it down. 2 slithers of carrot, more stem than Brocoli & Red cabbage, where was it , the Roast potatoes needed a steak knife to cut through, they were like Cannonballs, the stuffing was dry n hard , crackling & yorkie, OK. The Plate was too Small for the dinner, I know Chefs like to get height for a meal, but you had to deconstruct b4 you could start & like I said the plate too small. The Desserts. Green apple & Blood Orange Sorbet, I wanted something to cleanse my palate, Omg Absolutely Delicious, the 2 together, Awesome 👌, I would've bought a tub of both & to be honest I thought the dessert was better than the main , my partner had Roast Beef, her thoughts were like mine, although she did enjoy the striploin of Beef, her Dessert was Lemon & white chocolate parfait with chocolate sauce & crushed freeze dried raspberries , again Delicious. Overall the Meal was somewhat Delicious, Staff , fantastic Well done Macs.
Absolutely delicious and the service from Rob was first class ☺️
Been here a few times and it just gets better and better. Love sitting outside on a nice evening. They do have plenty of inside and outside seating. The food is just incredible, always so delicious. This time we got the 4 sharing platter for £23. Would highly recommend this, you get a good amount of food for 2 people. My favourite was the baked honey chilli feta. And the maple and pecan waffle, so good! Definitely going to be bringing more people here!
Had an excellent experience here last night, 5 of us ate. Choice was so good found it hard to choose! We all chose something different and no one was disappointed! Staff were amazing and checked on us throughout making sure we were ok. I need to mention Tamzin and Hayley who were so attentive and nothing was too much trouble for them, they definitely made a difference to our visit and well 💯 be back. Thank you all
Lovely food and service. Very nice atmosphere!
Servers by rob today came with my mum and nan funny waiter and really nice food was amazing and price isn’t too bad definitely recommend
Lovely evening out with friends, food was great, service was great too (not on your case or hovering).
Aug 2019: enjoy the visit again. The pink-inside iron beef was cooked very well. The vegetable was fresh and cooked well balance. April 2019: enjoy coming back again. Nice food. The pork is very good. Last visit: very nice pork fillet and braise flat iron beef. Recent: haven't visit Three Horseshoes for a while. Visited it yesterday and enjoyed the fish pie and duck breast together with the fresh vegetables. Previous: Enjoy the sharing bundles: minted pea, Queenie scallops, Italian antipasti and duck croquettes. Nice lunch and good service.
The food was great and good variety including Gluten free. Rob our server was attentive and friendly and kept us up to date when there were any delays. Would highly recommend.
Rob was a great waiter. Quick service, nothing was too much hassle and he recommended the cherry pie for dessert, which was gorgeous! Highly recommend.
Went for my birthday with my parents, lovely lunch, I had the Chicken Milanese which was plentiful & really tasty, our server Rob was exceptional very helpful & attentive will definitely be returning soon!
A beautiful setting, a large, varied menu and delightful staff. We had a lovely lunch served by the extremely pleasant and professional Rob. Thank you so much for all your hard work everyone. The toilets were spotlessly clean too 🌟x
A few of us visited yesterday for lunch, including my elderly mum. The service was great and we all really enjoyed the food and atmosphere too. I must say Rob our waiter was brilliant, he certainly made my mum smile so cheers Rob and all the staff too, we all throughly enjoyed our visit as always. 😃
We went yesterday for luck, they were very busy, but took us without booking, was 2 of us. Service was fast, food was very good, very lovely pub, we did enjoyed, and was our first time. As living in Bishop's stortford, dont have many places where you can enjoy nice pub or restaurant.
Had a gentleman named Rob as a server. He was brilliant. Food was amazing as well. Will definitely come again
Went for lunch with my son-in-law and had a really lovely meal. Our waiter as Rob and what a lovely friendly guy. Service was excellent and portions are ample. Unfortunately too full have a desert. Will be definitely returning.
Really nice place with a good vibe and friendly staff. The food tastes good, and they have enough beers to choose from. If the weather is nice, I definitely recommend sitting outside.
A very large group of us for Christmas dinner. Excellent food. Great Service. Many people had mobility issues or used wheelchairs. All catered for. Beautiful decor and festive decorations
Food was excellent but services just a little slow. Waited almost an hr for our mains. When we asked for the bill they brought it but then never came back to take payment. Waited a good 20 mins trying to get their attention before we walked up to the bar to ask to pay.
I attended this restaurant with more than 15 members of my family so the pressure was definitely high for the workers at this restaurant. This is being taken into account as I am writing this review for fairness purposes. Firstly, I shall start off with the food. The food was very nice as a whole, The starter (smoked salmon and that bread with capers) and the main (some slow roasted pork dish I believe) were very nice and I have no complaints. I also didn't hear complaints from anyone else in my family about the food. The brownie desert was however a bit too sickly for some of the members in my family but I had a taste and it was quite nice. Just keep in mind it's not for the faint of heart lol. Atmospherically, the restaurant was very nice, the chairs were comfortable and the table was set out nicely. I have but one complaint. The only reason why this review is not 5 stars and only 4 is due to the service. Overall and for a family of a smaller size, I am sure the service would be sufficient enough but this was my experience so it must be mentioned. Within the members of my family we brought along, we had one child who we had to mention separately as he wasn't originally coming with us, unfortunately and despite us giving the order of food weeks beforehand for efficiency, his food never arrived and for the starter, main and dessert we had to ask for his food each time. We also had to wait quite a while to be given a high chair for the infant in the family. Minus those two points, the experience as a whole was excellent and I do recommend anyone to attend.
A lovely lunch. Rob our waiter was kind efficient and attentive. My only niggle was the meal took about 30+ minutes to arrive. However, when it did arrive it was hot and well prepared..
Soup was cold and very salty. Salmon was over cooked and the sausages were like rubber. It seems they had been cooked before and just heated up. The cherry pie was lovely. However, the staff and service was excellent and nothing was too much trouble.
Feel really disappointed for my 17yr old son who brought me here for my birthday present. Always had great food here before but today it just was not good. Service wasn’t great. Both had roast beef. 1st portions sent back as completely cold. Replacements were warm but the beef was fatty and stringy, lack of gravy. Didn’t have desert as didn’t want to throw more of his apprenticeship wage away😢
Popped in for an early dinner recently. Before I get to the food the service from the gentleman was superb and very attentive. The food however was rather varied in its ratings. The pretzel was nice but there didn’t seem to be the honey mustard as listed so there were two rather bland dips accompanying the beer cheese. The goats cheese tart can only be described as poor and empty and the steak and blue cheese pie was as my wife said ‘ too good to leave any!!’ I’d come in again for sure especially for a pie!!
I have lunched here on a number of occasions and always been happy, but went there this last Sunday and came away disappointed. With all the changes made to the place I suspect you have taken your eye off the ball. The roast beef was tough and chewy, the roast potatoes were barely warm, and the cauliflower & broccoli cheese was very liquidy and watery.
Went for Wedding Anniversary. Ordered a medium cooked steak. It came out rare so had to send it back. The replacement had not been rested and so bled on cutting and parts were still rare. We decided not to stay for dessert. Would not recommend and will not be returning.
