Opinions de Phớ Bằng Albans
The food was so delicious. Authentic Vietnamese food to try it out. Su recommended the menu for us. She was so lovely and helpful. Definitely coming back soon.
Outstanding, food was fragrant and delicious, it has a nice light atmosphere, portion sizes are great and money wise it's really good value. We will 100% be back. I had veggie spring rolls, followed by a traditional chicken curry, the GF had chicken summer rolls, with a brisket Pho as the main. Two import things to know; 1. Himaya's service was amazing, she is efficient but extremely friendly. 2. The peanut sauce is divine.
Like H was super knowledgeable about the menu especially for gluten free for my wife He suggested dishes which we had and they were very good as well as tasty. For coeliacs, I'd recommend pho. The banana fritters and waffles were gluten free and very nice.
I received marketing mail from Pho Cafe informing me that they opened a new branch in Christopher Place St Albans. That is a cue to give it a try. From the outside, the restaurant looks quite small, in fact, if you don’t know it is there, you can easily walk past it. Inside it is deceptively large. It was very busy the day we visited. The restaurant was just about full but they managed to find us a table. By the time we left, there was a queue. That is always a good sign, especially as St Albans has a large choice of restaurants. There isn’t a lot of natural light it the restaurant, instead it is lit with nice warm coloured fancy bulbs which gives it a very nice ambiance. I would describe it as trendy with a nice vibe.. The staff are very friendly and efficient. The menu is the same as the other pho branches. The price is average and the food quality is good. I always like their rice. It is flavoursome with a little bit of kick. Washed down with coconut water. Perfect. We had a great lunch. As this is fairly local to us, I am sure I will be returning regularly. Highly recommended.
Great food and atmosphere! We had the brilliant Luke as our server, he was great from start to finish! Made sure we had everything we needed! Reasonable prices will definitely be back 😌👏🏽⭐️
The food was absolutely excellent—fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. Mihir’s service truly stood out; he was attentive, quick, and incredibly professional, making the entire experience smooth and enjoyable. From start to finish, everything exceeded expectations. Highly recommended, and I’ll definitely be coming back.
Walking through Christopher Place on a Sunday evening and saw, for the first time, that this place had recently opened. It was busy but not crowded, so decided to spontaneously pop in for dinner. We were greeted enthusiastically and shown to a nice table. All of the staff were very friendly, knowledgeable and efficient. If anything slightly too attentive, with not enough time between our starters and mains. The Summer Rolls were probably the highlight, although the pork Spring Rolls were also very good. A great new addition to the St Albans food scene.
Lovely first experience at Pho St Albans. Even better that Blue light card holders get 20percent every day! Great stuff. The food was lovely and our served Krishna was helpful and polite. Will definitely be back again. Wheelchair accessible and a nice mix of people created a nice atmosphere. Thank you for a nice meal
Considering how large the queue was, I was surprised and impressed with how quickly we ended up getting seated. Our server Nick was very personable and polite. He made us feel very welcome. The turnaround time for drinks and food was quick. The portion size of the pho did not disappoint and was very tasty. I like the atmosphere of the restaurant, it feels very cosy. Thank you!
I had a fantastic experience at PHO St Albans! The food was fresh, full of flavour, and beautifully served, absolutely delicious from start to finish. The service made the meal even better. Our waiter, Nick, was outstanding, friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu. He made us feel really welcome and looked after us throughout. Great atmosphere, great food, and truly excellent service. I’ll definitely be coming back! Thanks to Pat too, great host.
Definitely going to give this place another go because the food was really tasty and some of the staff were extremely lovely. Summer rolls were light and zesty, chicken wings abundant, brisket soup spicy and flavoursome but the noodles were a clump in the bottom of the bowl. Homemade lemonade isn’t good value at £4.75, once you remove the three giant ice cubes there was about 150ml of liquid, shame because it was delicious. So, there might be a few teething problems with quality and service, we had to ask for a couple items twice because they were forgotten and it took two requests for the bill. Nothing that can’t improve
Came here for a last minute catch-up with a friend. I booked relatively last minute for a Friday night at 7pm and comfortably obtained a reservation. We arrived 10minutes early and was warmly greeted by the gentleman by the entrance who took us to our table which was between two other two seater tables. Our waiter arrived shortly after to take our drinks as we needed more time for food. I went for the Pho Long Island Iced Tea with my friend opting for the Coconut Water. We had to ask for tap water seperately as it wasn't immediately provided. My friend had no complaints about the Coconut Water, my Iced Tea was a bit underwhelming, at least as the alcohol content was concerned. I like the proper Ice Tea flavour but I could not taste any of the spirits not withstanding it was served in a short glass telling me that they used the spirits sparingly which was dissappointing. In my opinion a proper iced tea is served in a long glass and full single measures are used for each spirit, otherwise what's the point! Anyways, moving onto the food. We ordered some Spring Rolls and Beef Betel for starter which arrived very quick. The spring rolls were great, lovely and crisp with an excellent pork based filling. the Betel Beef was something I'd never tried before but was delicious - there was a bit of assembly involved with wrapping it in lettuce leaf with a kind of flat noodle patty which was explained to us by the waitress who gave us the dish. Both of us opted for Pho as our main. My friend went for the traditional Steak and Garlic and I went for the spicy Beef Brisket with shrimp paste. My friend generally enjoyed their Pho, however they said the broth was overwhelmingly beefy and could've been seasoned better. Mine was lovely and comforting, however I didn't get anything from the shrimp paste sp I have no idea if that was added or not. In both cases the portion sizes were huge and whilst I was able to finish mine, my friend struggled and requested his to be packed. Something that annoyed him was the the waiter just dumped a takeaway contained on our table with no bag which was is the main reaons I don't give 5* for service. All in all, I would definitely go again to try more of the dishes - I'm eyeing up one of the curries for next time. Overall it wasn't a perfect expereicne is was still great and would definitely recommend a visit if you want something different. And please, make those Long Island Iced Teas properly...
Good to finally have a soup-noodle-focused Vietnamese restaurant in St Albans. However, the broth lacked depth and I found myself having to add a lot of fish sauce to bring out the flavour. I ordered a bun noodle soup but was served pho noodles instead – they are not the same, so this was disappointing. The pho was not boiled enough and was still hard. The soup was also a bit oily, and the spicy oil seemed to be added by default, whereas it really should be optional. Morning glory stir fry lacked umami as well. More fish sauce or oyster sauce should be added. The music was louder than necessary for a meal setting. Overall, it’s a nice restaurant with potential, but there are several areas that could be improved.
The mains were generally okay, but the dessert really let the meal down it arrived cold, chewy and took around 20 minutes to come out. Service was also poor: we had to ask twice for water, and we ended up repeatedly chasing for someone to take our order, clear plates, and bring the dessert menu. It got to the point where I felt like I should’ve clocked in and started my own shift.
