Opinions de Brasserie 19 Houston
Brasserie 19 in Houston's vibrant River Oaks is a chic French brasserie masterpiece, blending classic bistro elegance with modern Texas flair for unforgettable dining. The expansive menu shines: start with silky steak tartare (cured egg yolk perfection), addictive deviled eggs, or foie gras paired with crisp Gulf oysters. Mains dazzle—trout almondine with nutty crunch, juicy steak frites (au poivre sauce steals the show), succulent duck breast, or filet mignon grilled to ideal. Seafood lovers rave about seared scallops, bucatini & clams in uni butter, and snapper crudo.Brunch elevates weekends: smoked salmon Benedict, market quiche, or French onion chicken sandwich. Desserts tempt with crème brûlée, affogato, or Nutella brownie. Wine list (priced near retail) boasts gems by the glass; cocktails solid, ambiance buzzing yet cozy with patio vibes.Service is polished, portions generous, value exceptional for this scene-y spot—perfect date night or group feast. Houston's French haven; reservations essential. 5/5!
I’ve had dinner here a few times with my boyfriend, and we both love this place. The food is excellent, and the restaurant is nice, clean, and truly feels like a 5-star experience. The cocktails are also very good. We especially love the salads and seafood—everything is fresh, flavorful, and well prepared. It’s always a great dining experience, and we look forward to coming back again.
Great food selection, even for someone with a gluten allergy. Group of 8, ordered multiple starters to share and all ordered something different for the entree. Nothing bad to say about any of the options chosen. Service was amazing. Our waiter was very attentive and knowledgeable about options for all. Yes, the tables are close together but not too intrusive. Great people watching from the bar area. Worth a repeat visit
My husband and I went to Brasserie 19 to celebrate a special occasion, and it did not disappoint! I got the special four course meal, and he got a steak. Both were absolutely delicious! Drinks were good, with a highly varied cocktail menu and an extensive wine list. The service was excellent, attentive, but not stuffy. We sat outside, and were grateful to have done so because the weather and ambiance were perfect whereas the indoor dining area was crowded and loud.
Saturday 12/21/25 My boyfriend arrived for our 2pm reservation. It was pretty packed but there's both indoor & outdoor seating. It was decorated for Christmas & they had little ribbons with a bell at each table which was a nice touch. Promptly greeted & well attended by our waiter. Even offered to pack up my leftovers for me. The food was hot & full of flavor! I loved the white dip that came with my French onion chicken sandwich. For dessert we ordered the Vanilla Bean Creme Brulee which was served warm & the perfect serving for 2 to share. Parking: the shared business Parking in front is hard to find a spot unless you choose to Valet, they do have that option but there's additional Parking in the back as well. (Paid Parking in back)
My husband and I took our daughter here for brunch for the first time today. They offer valet parking, but we didn’t have any trouble finding a spot. Initial thoughts were a quaint, casual yet somewhat upscale place. We were greeted by the staff with a smile and ushered to our table. Andrew was our waiter, and he immediately gave us the impression that we were going to have a great experience. He did a fantastic job explaining everything on the menu to us, knowing it was our first time. I had a Bloody Mary, and it was good! At the end of brunch with dessert, I had their twist on an Espresso Martini, and it was fabulous. We all enjoyed our meals. Each of us had a bowl of their French Onion Soup. Delish! We had the quiche (so good!), the seafood croissant with Brussels sprouts, and the roasted hen with Brussels sprouts. We shared truffle fries, and the garlic aioli was delicious! For dessert, we tried the flourless chocolate cake, the crepe, and the upside-down citrus cake. Our experience was one to make us want to come back. We got there at 11:30, and by 12:00, it was getting a little loud. That could have been because of the larger party seated next to us, but I know other reviews have also commented on the noise level. It didn’t bother us, just something to note. Overall, a excellent time, Andrew was attentive, kind, and knowledgeable. Thank you!
We had an excellent experience at Brasserie 19 in Houston. We sat outside and the vibes were immaculate — great atmosphere and energy all around. The menu was interesting and had a lot of solid options. I started with a salad that was excellent. I tried the trout and it wasn’t really my favorite, but our server Gina was amazing and had it switched out for a burger without any issue. The burger was outstanding, seriously impressive even though it’s a simple dish. My girlfriend had the beef bourguignon (slow-roasted beef) and it was pretty good — comforting, almost like a really well-done pot roast. Drinks were great too, especially the frozen rosé-style slushy drink, which was perfect for sitting outside. Huge shoutout to Gina — she was an excellent server, very attentive, friendly, and made the whole experience even better. Overall, awesome food, great service, and a place I’d absolutely come back to.
Whether you live in town or are visiting, you must come here. The food was fabulous and the service was top notch. We started with the tuna tartare which was fresh and flavorful. I had the Dover Sole, a classic French dish and my wife had the duck. Both were delicious and paired well with the other items on the dishes. Our waiter was consistently refilling our waters and all the dishes came out in a timely manner. Even the rolls were outstanding. We finished our meal with a chocolate mousse dessert and a latte that was a perfect ending to a spectacular experience. Also, I must mention the ambience which if you were beamed in would have thought you were in Paris. We did get a last minute reservation outside, but they gave us the best table inside because we were there celebrating my wife’s birthday. Thank you Charles.
A great restaurant environment with a menu to crave. The seafood tower was a perfect choice and pair it with a vodka Martini and blue cheese olive to die for. I topped it off with a perfect dessert, extravagant butter cake with fruit toppings. Definitely coming back for the buccatini pasta with clams.
Went on a Thursday night. It was a lot more packed than i thought it would be. Looks like a lot were at bar watching the football game too. Came here with one of my closest friends. Crowd was definitely older. We are 28. Waiter. Hispanic. Can’t remember his name or if i ever got it . It was pretty loud in there. Anyways he was friendly, very nice ! Now to the food we got raw oysters, escargot, trout, steak . Trout was my least favorite but i also didn’t really get a good bite. Lacked flavor in my opinion and i had already taken a bit of my awesome steak! Oh my gosh! SO SOFT, cooked perfectly how i like, and it came with a brown sauce that just had so much flavor. The cream of corn was good nothing out of this world . The escargot maybe little more garlic or something but still good. And oysters ! Great! Clean! The vinegar type sauce that not every place offers but they had, so i loved that! The steak alone was just a dream. I took back another order to my boyfriend. We had a red cab i let the waiter choose for me. Very smooth, very nice! Not drying. It was great ! The owner saw our table and said he loves the way we eat and gave us dessert ! OMG crème brûlée and this new sherbet dessert . JUST GREAT! It was a good night! I’m definitely coming back! The only reason I’d say 4 star bc some meals could have more of kick in them just to stand out from another trout or other escargots . That’s what i look for when eating out…individuality ! Something to stand out and that steak and the sauce definitely did . We spent over $300 can’t remember exact price.
It was very loud. Tables were very crammed together. We did two Houston Restaurant Week options. The waiter forgot our main course and brought out dessert so he had to take it back and bring out the 2nd course. Food was good. This is a place to go with friends and be loud. Not great for a date night or if you want to actually have a meaningful conversation.
Brasserie 19 is one of those spots that perfectly blends lively ambiance with consistently well-executed food. The space is chic yet approachable, with a bright, bustling energy that makes it great for everything from brunch with friends to a celebratory dinner. The wine list is extensive and thoughtfully curated, and the staff is always ready with helpful recommendations. On the food side, everything feels fresh and flavorful — from the oysters and seafood selections to classic French brasserie staples like steak frites and mussels. Presentation is polished without being pretentious, and the portions are generous for the price point. Service is attentive and professional, even during the busiest rush hours. Whether you’re stopping by for cocktails and small bites or indulging in a full dinner, Brasserie 19 delivers a reliably enjoyable experience. It’s a place where the atmosphere, food, and service come together seamlessly, and it’s easy to see why it’s a Houston favorite.
Loved the casual interior n patio area. Great service. Food needs flavor. The octopus was the best. I have eaten better n more flavorful Escargot. It was bland with the dressing having no taste. The shrimps ordered were like a goulash too sweet. We were leaving right before closing time, the place still had 5 tables full. But the waiters were hurried cleaning, bumping knocking down n breaking our glass lamp on the table? Another shook the whole table with their body. It was annoying n rough for a place like that.
Writing a Google review now because the restaurant deleted and canceled my OpenTable review. Waited 25 minutes after being seated to receive a drink and even a menu. Ordered the raclette special to have a plate brought with the accoutrements that sat on the table for 20 minutes before 2 oz of cheese was brought. Ordered a dozen oysters at $4 a piece to be dropped on the table with no explanation accompanied by three crackers and a used and empty miniature Tabasco sauce. Had a waiter ask what cocktail I had ordered so he could share with the table next to us. I find that weird, as I would expect the staff to know what drinks are being brought out. The service was abhorrent. When closing out our bill, we were surprised that a $3 fee was charged to split the $20 sandwich. Atmosphere outside with the DJ was nice, so I will give them that. Received an email from OpenTable saying that I had not honored my reservation which was not the case and annoying to receive an email stating otherwise. We've been here before in the past and shocked with our experience. Now to top it off having our OpenTable reservation canceled because they don't want to show what my review is super suspect and shady. Be better for a $200 brunch for two people!
Place is nice but, to my opinion, a little overrated. Food is average okay. Service is good, waiters are not very attentive and their service was leaning more towards upselling and distracted rather than actually providing a real good customer experience. Portions are quite small, not only for Texas standards but even for French standards. The beef tartare portion is not even half of what any other brasserie would consider a regular size, which usually yields enough for 2-3 people. This dish tartare was roughly for 1 person…more like a kids portion. When we said we’d be sharing dishes they overcharged us with several “split dish” charges, which felt pretty shady and dishonest. Entrees were overpriced Drinks were pretty good Desert was also pretty good
Extremely disappointing! $16 for this beet salad is unacceptable. The greens looked old, wilted, and borderline rotten, and there were barely any beets. This is the kind of salad I’d expect to pay $3 for, not something priced as a premium dish. While the service did help improve the experience slightly, it wasn’t enough to justify the cost or make me want to return
