Our first time here and I can already say we will be repeat customers! We weren’t as impressed with the sides we got: Mac n cheese and rice and beans but everything else was excellent. The catch of the day was redfish which was perfectly cooked. The fried chicken was great. I really appreciate how crispy it was with having zero oily residue.

Wonderful food, ambiance, and server! Our server, Laurie, was funny, caring, and gave great recommendations. You can tell she loves working here. The biscuits, gumbo, oysters, and fried chicken were freshly made and delicious! This was are first time at this restaurant and it won’t be out last!

First timer and my experience was superb. The staff was outstanding, my server was Kendra, she was friendly and very helpful and seem very keen on popular items from the menu. THE FOOD?!?! OMG OUTSTANDING 12/10!!! we got the breakfast burger, shrimp and grits as well as biscuits with jelly… The burger was the star of the show, the bacon jams and the beef sauce, I’ve never had anything so delectable. While everything was so enjoyable the flavors from that burger were chart topping. I would highly recommend making this restaurant a stop if you’re in the area, and it’s worth the drive if you’re not. I will absolutely be coming back. Overall great experience.

I surprised my partner by bringing him here to celebrate Valentine’s Day last night and this place did not disappoint! My partner loves Southern Comfort food so we ordered all the best. Buttered biscuits, miso fried chicken wings, and a cup of gumbo was to start. The butter biscuits were DELICIOUS. The biscuits were thick and warm and, in combination with the homemade bacon jam, that could’ve been the entire meal. I was very tempted to order another round to go. The miso fried chicken wings had a delicious flavor, were fried to perfection, and the slaw underneath them became a fun snack to sop up all of the leftover miso sauce. The gumbo (THE GUMBO)- my partner loves gumbo and his first response after taking a bite was, “OH WOW!” So yeah- it was great. Lol The entrees we ordered were the Fried Catfish and Fried Chicken Combo with a side of brussell sprouts for him, the Fried Catfish and Fried Shrimp combo (add Fried Oysters) with a side of brussell sprouts for me, and a large mac ‘n cheese side to share. We lived! The fried everything was incredible. The brussell sprouts were crispy and lovely. And the mac was mac’in. Honestly. We took what we didn’t finish for leftovers and are SO READY to eat them up today. If you’re reading this review - please check this restaurant out. All the staff were incredibly friendly as well and attentive. Total for this epic splurge (plus tip) was approx. $180. We also got a ton of food though and wine. We will be back! Zach x Ryan

My work team went to Gatlin’s Fins and Feathers today for lunch. ⭐️ Hostess greeted us warmly and enthusiastically. ⭐️ Our waitress was very knowledgeable and quick-witted! We all had a blast talking with her today! ⭐️ The food came out hot and tasted so FRESH. Not pictured-the biscuit appetizer with honey butter, strawberry jam, and bacon jam. The biscuits were so buttery; they melted in our mouths. And the homemade strawberry jam was the highlight of the spread. ⭐️ I was trying not to be a weirdo so I also didn’t get any pictures of the gumbo or the basil coleslaw (another amazing item I recommend you order!) ⭐️ Pictured are the chargrilled oysters, the chicken tacos, the shrimp poboy and my ultra crispy, super hot, made to order fried chicken and collard greens with turkey. ⭐️ I’m going back soon to try the Dreamsicle Donut for dessert. Everything was amazing and I’m eagerly planning my next lunch date!

Great new restaurant! The food was absolutely amazing and made with pride and love of cooking. The waitress UB was very well informed on the menu, and the SNAPPER was perfectly tender, flaky, moist, and juicy. The GUMBO is done right! My wife had their spectacular hot chicken sandwich, which was a huge breast, and the crust on it was just right. Not too crunchy and well seasoned. Definitely coming back! Thank you guys...

The Food was great love the Gulf Shrimp. Our Server although pleasant was a Lil off track. One of the people in Our group received her Side-Dish of Fries after She was done eating, even after several requests prior. There was no compensation or discount just a I'm sorry about that. We all agreeded to come again🤩

We got lucky and stopped by without a reservation on a Saturday afternoon. The place is smaller, more intimate with cozy kind of vibe. We ordered one of the daily specials (seafood pasta) and the fried chicken. They both were excellent. We were already full but overheard people raving about the dessert so we ordered peach cobbler and it was delicious. All the food seemed cooked fresh to order. Staff was very friendly also. Highly recommend, and we'll be visiting again soon to try other dishes on the menu

This is an exceptional fried chicken house! And not your typical fried chicken house. The staff is over the top with their service and the chef or chefs know their chicken. When you come don’t forget the biscuits. 🤤

This has to be one of Houston’s best kept secrets right now. I thought I was just walking into a quaint little chicken spot but what I ended up entering was this pappadeaux’s-esque type of dining ambiance with music that compliments the experience. there are a myriad of dishes and appetizers to highlight so let’s just get into it. Not My Mama’s Biscuits: These gotta be Martin’s mama’s biscuits because it would justify how crazy he would get behind them. I honestly wish I could make biscuits like these at home. They are dense and layered like a cake while still being fluffy and soft like a biscuit. You HAVE to eat it with the butter or the jam to get the full experience. The Gumbo: I thoroughly enjoyed this gumbo. The roux is nice and dark as it should be. There’s a nice balance of protein, rice and veggies to make this worth eating before your food comes out The Maple Chipotle Wings: These wings are battered and fried to perfection. The sweetness of the sauce is a nice touch to what is already a delicious and crispy wing. The Chargrilled Oysters: I love when a chargrilled Oyster isnt always flooded with ingredients to get a flavor. You can actually see the oyster on here along with the toppings and every bite is fulfilling. The Fried Chicken: Crispy and crunchy is main experience you get with this chicken. How it is seasoned makes it stand out. This chicken is some of the best Houston has to offer and no additives are necessary (outside of your mouth). overall, this has been a great discovery. So much, that I felt a need to make a review. This place must not be known by a lot of people so try to get here before it blows up!

We had Whitney, she was quite knowledgeable regarding the specials of the day and attended to our newdsvwry well. We came at around 4:20PM on a Friday and luckily did not encounter a wait. Although it's common to need to wait when this establishment is full. The bisquits were really a must try.

Gatlins Fins and Feathers is a must. If you are reading this review, stop and go there ASAP! You will not be disappointed. I ordered red beans and rice and fried chicken with collard greens. Everything was great and seasoned to perfection. If I didn't know better, I would have thought my mother and grandmother were the cooks. I've had the fried chicken and collards at La Lucha, Gatlins superior. My order came out piping hot within 15 minutes. The other place took 25 minutes for the chicken. The service was great, there's plenty of parking and the environment was enjoyable. My only gripe is that I would have preferred bread with my meal. Especially with the chicken, some sort of bread would have complimented the meal. I will be going back and recommending friends and family.

I'm confused on how they only have 4.4 stars lol! This place was absolutely great from the customer service all the way to the taste and quality of the food. I had their biscuits, gumbo, red beans and rice and fried chicken and all of it was delicious! Look forward to coming back this Sunday with my family! My waiter Tazz did an amazing job!!! (SORRY IF I SPELLED YOUR NAME WRONG, LOL!)

We like to try a bit of everything and there wasn’t a bite we did not thoroughly enjoy! Biscuits + Bacon Jam, Chargrilled Oysters and a Bowl of Gumbo to start. Followed by the Fried Shrimp, (Catfish and Oysters- extra crispy, of course!), Risotto and Creamed Corn. Everything was seasoned to perfection. I’m not sure what took us so long to visit. Chefs had no problem accommodating my no garlic request and that absolutely did not damper the seasoning and quality one bit! Quite impressed.

Chef Greg Gatlin is a setting the standard for southern cuisine in Houston. The food at Gatlin's Fins and Feathers is uniformly savory and flavorful across the board. Each item on the menu has its own flavor profile. Even the fried food, which usually has one uniform fryer taste regardless of item. Each fried foods tastes unique from one another while individually being juicy and differently seasoned. The catfish is perfectly fried in a cornmeal that isn't wet or too crisp. It's then dusted with a spicy Cajun powder that compliments its texture without overpowering the taste. The wings were amazing. My wife took a bite and said they're the gold standard for wings in Houston. They're brined overnight then coated with their own fry mixture that compliments the chicken's flavor rather than hiding it. The sides were amazing. The red beans and rice had a strong bay leaf presence that melded with the other flavors and didn't overpower the overall flavor. They are meaty and thick. Maybe the best I've ever had. The creamed corn is good. And if you don't get the biscuits you’re missing out on some goodness. The dollop of jam they’re served with is almost worth the cost. And the local beer is only $5. What a bargain.

This place was such a pleasant surprise for us, I can't believe we had never been here before as I pass the restaurant all the time. First off, we went for Brunch on a Sunday. We were astonished by the decor set up. It was top-notch inside. Gave fine dining vibes for sure. Second, our waitress (who i wish i could remember her name) was so wonderful and nice to us. Her hospitality made it feel like we were at someone's home being taken care of. She made all the recommendations and we basically followed her lead. Starting with the biscuits. I'm not really that big into biscuits but these were bomb! Our waitress let us know everything there was made from scratch so I could see why. Get the sides of jelly for them. I ordered the shrimp and grits which is one of my favorites at other places and I hit. My partner and cousin shared the fried chicken and catfish which they liked. I'm not really a fan of either so didn't really have an opinion on it. Finally, you must try the Oysters! We got the H-town spice on it which we loved. This should go without saying but the sides like the Mac and Cheese, collard greens, rice and beans were also bomb. Overall, we loved the atmosphere, food and service. This will be a new spot we take our out of towners, for sure.

First time here with a coworker. Very nice place. Friendly staff was greeted promptly and seated. They have a nice menu with good prices. The waitress was very nice and knowledgeable. It all looked and sounded good. We decided to split the crab nachoes and the spicy chicken sandwich. We also got some of the fresh made biscuits. For desert, we tried the bread pudding. All of the food was fresh and good tasting. We both left full. We will be back.

Fantastic meal. Beyond delicious. Everything was incredibly good. The biscuits are the best I ever had. The gumbo, the fish tacos, even the kids menu (fried catfish with macaroni and cheese) were excellent. And O M G... the bread pudding 😲😋. Excellent service and welcoming atmosphere. We will be back!

Food was great! Service was better! Our server, Whitney did a great job explaining to the table to specials, and even explained how the dish would come out and delt with our loud table.. I highly recommend this place.. the atmosphere is elevated but doesnt require a special dress code. Great music..

We enjoyed our experience here! I found out about Gaitlin’s Fins & Feathers on TikTok and wanted to give them a try. We went over the weekend and I’m so glad we did. We didn’t have reservations and were seated as soon as we walked in. The service we received by everyone was top notch! Our waiter was friendly and attentive throughout our dining experience. The food was so good! Great portion sizes (had more than enough to bring home) and seasoned to perfection! And the biscuits?!?! I should’ve ordered more lol they were so good with the homemade strawberry jam. I definitely enjoyed this hidden gem and will return!

My in-law was in town and we needed a lunch spot. I think I found thus from an Eater recommendation. We did not make a reservation for lunch for 5 people and we should have. However, it was a short wait. Lori was our server and she was delightful. Our entries were fried catfish & shrimp, salmon, shrimp poboy and 2 orders of shrimp and grits. Plus bowls of gumbo and 3 types of oysters. All of it was amazingly well done. Portions were large and hearty and we took several to-go boxes home. I unfortunately did not take photos of everything. Will return.

Whitney was absolutely phenomenal! From the moment we sat down, she set the tone for a warm, smooth, and welcoming dining experience. Her attention to detail, friendly personality, and genuine care made our visit unforgettable. She checked on us consistently without ever being intrusive, offered great recommendations, and made sure everything came out just right. The food was outstanding — fresh, flavorful, and served hot. The atmosphere at Gatlin’s Fins & Feathers is cozy and quaint, the perfect blend of comfort and style. Between the exceptional service and the delicious plates, this spot continues to set the standard. Huge thank you to Whitney for making our visit special. We’ll definitely be back!

Lunch on a Wednesday at Noon and the parking lot is full. When you walk inside, it bright, cheery and almost every table is taken, luckily for me, they did have a table available for us. Friendly hostess and waitress was also friendly and helpful. She was busy as was every other staff member, no one was hiding behind a counter or wall (huge bonus). The lunch menu and dinner menu for entrees were similar as well as the pricing. I settled on an appetizer of biscuits, (I asked for 6, but only 3 were brought to the table). They are dense, delicious and they come with a honey butter, jam and bacon jam, they are outstanding and a must try. (3 for two people are plenty.) My lunch order was 3 pieces of fried chicken, which consisted of 2 whole wings and a perfectly trimmed chicken breast. The breading is crispy with a slight hint of spice, it was cooked perfectly and enough for one person to have leftovers. I opted for the Red Beans as a side and I’m pretty sure my order had a 1/4 link in it. The beans are creamy and delicious, the best part there was simply a teaspoon of rice and this amount is enough. Greg was present and shook hands as we left and asked if we got enough to eat. I have to return soon to explore other parts of the menu. F and F fried chicken , is easily in the top 3 of Houston area restaurants, yes! It’s that good. Thank you for an amazing experience. I’ll be back…

The grilled F&F oysters were beyond delicious. Great appetizer. I had the October Fest draft and it was a fresh keg, so the tap was perfect. As far as the fried chicken and catfish platter went, crispy is the best way to describe it. I did want some Gaitlin’s BBQ sauce for the wings, however they do not serve it. I wonder why. That was the only disappointment. I enjoyed the food, service and atmosphere. Very good way to over eat and have a sip. I recommend it.

K
Karisa Hill

I truly enjoyed all of the food and the nice, quiet dining experience. The staff was professional and efficient. My food was made to order, and the prices were very reasonable. My only dislike was the cost of the oysters. Personally, I think that's the most I've paid for oysters in some time, and they were a pinch overcooked. Due to how everything else came out and the extremely kind staff, I would still give this place 9.99 out of 10.

The best biscuits I’ve EVER had! — I don’t even know where to start—this place is phenomenal. A true hidden gem! The food? Amazing. The biscuits? Life-changing. If you come here and don’t get the biscuits, you’re doing it all wrong. The staff? Warm, friendly, and ready to make you feel like family. And the cherry on top? We got to meet the chef, and let me tell you—he’s as wonderful as the food. If you’re in Houston, this place is an absolute must. In fact, I made sure to swing by one more time before my flight just to grab some biscuits to go. No regrets!

Everything about this place makes my soul and heart shine. Gatlin’s food is recognized for reason! The atmosphere is nostalgic; gives a classy yet humble 1950s vibe. Greg Gatlin is just one of his mama’s shining stars. Your meal is always going to be HOT and made to order. The chargrilled oysters, the fried chicken and the catfish are absolutely top contenders in the whole city of Houston. Every side that we’ve had there is flavored to absolute perfection, and in my opinion, could be a dish on its own. Mrs. L Green has taken care of us both times we’ve been to Fins & Feathers and she truly is the cherry on top to such an incredible experience. We were lucky to be blessed with Ms. Mary Gatlin’s presence this time and she is an absolute balance of grace and might. This place gives you a feeling of being welcomed, right out the gate. Gatlin’s is truly an institution and has created such a strong family (whether it be blood or water). Oh yeah, and get you summa dem biscuits to go too 🙌

Had an impromptu dinner for 2 at Gatlins' on a Friday night. I was glad I came! From the biscuits with the most delicious bacon jam I've ever had to some great fried chicken and fried shrimp! Flavor was everywhere! The only thing that needed some help was the fried catfish- still good, but I think the fried chicken and bacon jam were the stars of the show. Prices and portions were very reasonable. Service was just a bit on the slow side, but didn't change a vibe. I would be back and will recommend this place to others for sure.

Wow! We went for the first time on Tuesday and were pleasantly surprised that they had a $2 oyster special. These chargrilled oysters were the absolute BEST I’ve had in Houston! We also ordered gumbo and poboys - also delicious. Highly recommend this place- we truly loved it.

I really enjoyed this restaurant. From the moment we walked in the hostess was super sweet, and also our waitress Ms. Lori. She gave us great recommendations from the menu and we enjoyed our fried chicken wings and catfish. Those homemade biscuits with the bacon jam were so good & melted in my mouth. Everything tasted fresh and seasoned well. The atmosphere felt like an old school diner, the music softly playing in the background felt like i was in an oldies movie. Now when i don’t feel like cooking a good southern meal I can go right to Gatlin’s! I will be back to try the brunch on Sunday’s!

Sorry no pics, just full of amazing food and happy, happy, happy! Masterfully breaded and fried catfish and chicken wing combo plate with - no joke - the best mac and cheese I've ever had. Creamy, sharp cheese sauce, perfectly cooked cavatappi - so dang good. Great service, cozy settings, super fairly priced, big portions, the biscuits... get to Fins & Feathers if you haven't been there yet. Check out the menu and note they have daily fish specials as well.

If you're looking for the best fried chicken in Town, look no further! Hands down the best fried chicken I've ever had. The chicken was fried perfectly, has seasoning and the chicken was juicy. I've never ordered brussel sprouts in a restaurant and they have changed my mind on this little green ball forever. The side of biscuits and sauces to dip them in is a must. Bacon jam and those biscuits are to die for!

As soon as we entered the restaurant we were greeted with a genuine smile and warm welcome. We were promptly seated and asked if the temperature needed to be adjusted in the section we were seated in. I've never experienced such hospitality in a restaurant before. Our server, LaKeshia was the best. She made great menu suggestions, and answered our questions patiently and with a smile. She really made us feel at home. The food was absolutely great. Well seasoned, well prepared, and good portions. I'm looking forward to going back and would highly recommend Gatlin's.

I dont know what took me so long to visit this place. All I can say is OMG. We went here after a morning shift of volunteering and it was amazing. I don't say that casually either. The vibe was great. The food was perfection. If you've never been, do yourself a favor and try the biscuits with all the jams. Yes the jams are worth the upcharge. And listen, when you add the exception service to all that it was a 10 out of 10 experience! I wish I could remember our waitress name because she was a 20/10! Best service I've had in a long time! TRY THIS PLACE it was truly a hidden gem!

We had an amazing server (can’t remember her name), but she was efficient and pleasant. The food was incredible. Best restaurant Mac n cheese I’ve ever had. Biscuits are a must try. They are trying out a new sweet potato biscuit, definitely should be a permanent menu item. Can’t wait to go back. I advise making a reservation. Parking is limited.

Let's start with the service; the hostess and our server Gg was awesome. Attentive and was able to answer questions and give great suggestion. The food was fabulous, I had catfish and fried wings with greens. My wife had fried wings and corncakes, with mac-n-cheese, and we were both very happy. The Not Your Mommas Biscuits and 3 different type of homemade jams were fabulous as well. Great beer selection; draft and cans, and the Peach Sangria was yum. This is our second time here and again we were not disappointed. Lastly, the owner Greg was visible and helpful to customers and his staff. He is very kind and checked in on everyone. Go check them o8ut you will not be disappointed.

WOW! It's easily one of the most flavor packed & delicious food I've ever had - you should not skip Gatlin's Fins & Feathers if you're making a trip to Houston...and if you're blessed enough to live in Houston you should make this your regular dining establishment. First off, the service is top-notch - everyone was so welcoming. The service staff was quick to help us with anything we needed and explained all our menu questions (and just general ones too!). Next to the food - oh my lord... delicious and fantastic doesn't even do it justice. The chargrilled oysters had the most amazing flavor, and the garlic and herb with parmasan was to die for - still salivating here thinking about them. For entrees, the blackened catfish had great flavor and paired well with the Brussels sprouts. The fried sampler platter was very exceptional - including shrimps, chicken, catfish, and a soft shell crab - all expertly flavored and cooked perfectly. The soft shell crab was a highlight, but they were all so delicious, and we finished off the whole plate plus sides, too. This place makes me want to go back to Houston just to eat here again - and the staff really made it for us... don't skip Gatlin's Fins & Feathers!!!

My first meal off the airplane coming from Minnesota. Really wanted to try the jerk chicken, unfortunately they were all out! However, the fried catfish and shrimp combo was delicious. Both the fish and the shrimp were fried to perfection, seasoned perfectly as well. The atmosphere was great and friendly staff. Would love to come back to try the jerk chicken.

My husband and I tried this place after a friend recommended it. It did not disappoint. I definitely had to try the fried chicken, biscuit, and red beans and rice. My husband decided to get the shrimp and crab nachos. The fried chicken was very tasteful and juicy. The biscuits were so good you can tell they are homemade and they were perfectly paired with a variety of different jams. The shrimp and crab nachos were so good!. You can tell the chips for homemade as well. I have to mention how nice the atmosphere was as well. We were greeted by a friendly staff and even the GM Chris came over to ask how everything was going. . We will definitely be back for the oysters.

Top 3 fried chicken in Houston!!! Probably top 5 all time. I found Gatlin's through an Instagram post, and they had really consistent reviews about their fried chicken. Being from North Carolina, I had to see for myself. Believe it or not the biscuits were the star of the show. They were homemade and heavenly!! The honey butter, bacon jam, and strawberry spread were to die for and paired amazing with the perfectly baked biscuits. The F&F Fried Chicken (white meat) was the best choice I could've made. The chicken was seasoned extremely well, juicy, and the skin had a perfect crunch and crispiness to it. It was sensational. To top it off the Sangria was delicious and I appreciated the frozen peaches as ice for the cocktail. It was well made and refreshing. The creamed corn was not my favorite, but the greens and Mac n cheese were solid. The interior of the restaurant reminded me of a classic diner with clean, elegant touches. Service was good. Certified 9.5/10!!

I heard about this place over a year ago and finally made it in. The words “fins” and “feathers” is in their name for a reason. My husband had the fried chicken and it’s perfectly made and seasoned. I had the fried shrimp and the serving size was more than generous. We both had the macaroni and cheese and it was so creamy and delicious. My parents shared the fried liver and gizzards, which they enjoyed and was a good size appetizer. My one complaint was that it was a bit warm inside the restaurant. I don’t know if it’s normally like that or maybe something happened with their air conditioning. However, our waitress was very tentative with keeping our drinks and water full and provided great service throughout our meal. I definitely want to return so that I can try their fish and some of their other side.

I recently celebrated my Birthday with lunch at Gatlins Fins & Feathers. It was my first time at this restaurant. They did not disappoint. The food was EXCELLENT and the portions were large. We had a reservation and were seated earlier than our actual reservation time. Our Server was so good and attentive to our every need. Hopefully when you go you will get Whitney as your Server. The restaurant was packed but the wait time to be seated and to be served was reasonable. You also have to try those melt in your mouth biscuits. I can go on and on about this place. The only issue was there is not a lot of parking. They made me a special Birthday Biscuit that was delicious. You need to go and check them out. You won't be disappointed.

My First Time Going Bc Tik Tok videos made me wanna try them out. I’m so glad that I did. The food was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING and fresh. I ordered the Catfish and Wings combo with Mac and one biscuit that was so buttery and soft. I had the honey butter and strawberry jam. Listen my waitress Whitney ( whit) explained the menu and choices even gave samples she was super nice. I even showed her a message I sent to my sister about the food lol. Told her I’m writing a review to let everyone know GO GET THERE QUICK BC THE FOOD IS A1 right along with staff. Just fix that stuck door lol 20/10 !!!

Gatlin’s Fins & Feathers is Southern comfort done right. The staff is friendly and welcoming, the restaurant is spotless, and the food is absolutely delicious. Every dish feels homemade and full of flavor. A must-visit spot in Houston for true Southern hospitality and great cooking.

My son and I just came from Gatlin’s. What a wonderful experience. Gigi was our waitress and she asked if we have dined there before which we haven’t until today. She was so patient with us and it sounded like she has been there for some time. I will rave about their homemade butter biscuits… WOW! 10/10! We also ordered fried chicken with garlic mashed potatoes. 9/10. Seafood Pasta 8.5/10 and their Mac n cheese 9.5/10! We ordered food to go to try for dinner but over, food was amazing, the hostess, very nice and she honestly made us feel at home with her warm welcome as soon as we opened the door. Restaurant is suppperrrr clean and the aesthetic is so nice! We had made reservations so I would say do it! Parking lot was a bit tight but we also went when the restaurant was full, so I would say that may be the only thing that was kind of an issue but if the place is full, that should tell you something about them! Thank you Gigi for an amazing experience, we will be back!

I enjoyed my first visit to Gaitlin’s . I had gumbo, fluffy biscuits, and sweet tea . My family and I made reservations. We were kind of late being (one of the more heavier rain days in Houston), but the staff still accommodated us. The place is of decent size and it was easy to speak to one another. We didn’t wait an extended amount of time for hardly anything . Service was on key . The staff is very busy and collectively working together to make sure everyone is accommodated . I’ve read previous reviews from others and just wanted to say this is a popular place, the food is made with love/care, this isn’t a fast food place where food is just thrown together. I will be returning . Oh and for a bonus try the peach crumble it’s a special treat after dinner .

We loved it. The service was great. Went there for lunch. Very tasty pineapple mimosas. I got the cup of gumbo which was the size of a bowl. Really delicious. We also had the fish and grits. My wife said they were perfectly done. It was huge and delicious. I had the H-Town spicy fish sandwich and side of red beans and rice. Best red beans and rice I’ve ever had. The sandwich was incredible. Spicy Cajun Viet sauce is hot but not too spicy. The mixture with the toppings were a perfect balance. The bread was soft on the inside and had a good toast on the outside to keep the sandwich together. Definitely messy, but so perfectly wonderful with every taste. I did not grow tired of it, just got full.

First, the service is outstanding. Ms. Lori is knowledgeable and entertaining. Now let's get to the food. Some of the best fried chicken I have ever had. The breast was moist, not dry. The greens, cream corn and brussel sprouts are delicious. The fried fish cooked in cornmeal is perfect. Every time I have come here, I have brought someone with me who has never been here. And each time they have left completely satisfied.

My new favorite restaurant! I visited this place last Saturday for the first time and was blown away by the service and the food. Our server Gigi was amazing. Their oysters are some of the best I’ve had in the city and I would definitely recommend getting the biscuits with all three sauces. ☺️

First visit here - read a lot of good reviews so tried it for a late lunch. Had the fried chicken which matched its fine reputation!! Fresh, steaming hot, crispy on the outside, tender and juicy on the inside - and perfectly seasoned!! Enjoyed the side of coleslaw - crisp and fresh and fries - hand cut and fried just right! Nice atmosphere - comfortably casual, a little “Diner Vibe” but suitably dressy. I recommend and will visit again soon!!

Absolutely phenomenal. The Brussels Sprouts are the best I've ever had. The biscuits are dense and delicious, the mac and cheese rich and so flavorful, and the seafood incredibly fresh and cooked perfectly.

Much respect. Four of us were craving, and came for, gumbo tonight. And enjoyed it. A cup of 16 ounces could actually be a meal, what with the 3 shrimp, sausage, and chicken. And we had the opportunity to sample entrees. All good except for saltiness. Everything a little saltier than would be our preference. But tolerable. Barely. Why so much salt in everything? Anyway… But definitely SKIP the peach crumble. Brutally salty.

The food was amazing the only thing I wasn’t a fan of was the catfish. Definitely ask for the biscuits with all three sauces, they are literally life changing. The fried chicken and shrimp are literally the best in houston. Definitely will be going back to try breakfast.

We had the home made biscuits and charbroiled oysters for starters, both I thought were great. Everyone at lunch had something to say about their lunch except me, I thought everything was really good. I plan on being a repeat customer and bringing my wife for dinner one evening.

EXCELLENT! I give you my promise it's the best fried catfish and chicken you going to eat and the char grill oysters absolutely DELICIOUS. 1/20/25- I came back and now I'm trying to red fish with a Pontchartrain sauce. Everything was still delicious. The dirty rice was a little mushy but that's nothing really to complain about.

Ya'll. Please don't sleep, I just hate I didn't know this place was here before. Service 10, Restaurant cleanliness 10, space to customer ratio upon visit 10, ambiance 10. FOOD 10. Every dish executed perfectly. Crispy and tender chicken and fish, perfectly seasoned. Creamy cheesy Mac. Perfect gumbo with perfectly cooked shrimp(cooked to order and not sitting in the gumbo. Major flavor booster) plenty sausage in the red beans n rice. Greens, nice flavorful bitter bite. Ya'll, the biscuits....

Great atmosphere and great food. The fried chicken is amazing and the biscuits are to die for. Gumbo is not quite New Orleans style but decent. The wait staff is incredibly helpful and personable and happy to answer any and all questions. Great experience!

Good food. Showed up on a Tuesday. I tried the fried chicken plate with mac and cheese and strawberry lemonade for lunch. The fried chicken was crispy, very slightly spicy with what looked like paprika. For dinner, I had 3 pc biscuits served with bacon jam and honey while taking gumbo with white rice. Biscuits were not really fluffy, but the gumbo was good. Not quite homemade, but good. Service both times was excellent.

Quaint and relaxed atmosphere. Was greeted by hostess upon arrival and we were seated promptly. Waitress was very sweet and helpful. For the food: drinks had too much ice. Biscuits were amazing. The chicken was very crispy and breaded well but I am not sure if they brine the chicken maybe but seemed like they do and was not a fan of the taste. The fries were a bit too airy for me. Wish they were a more full because they looked very good. we also got the macaroni which was very good and creamy!

Ordered Wings & Hoecakes, Chicken Biscuit, Tres leches French toast, Shrimp and grits, chargrilled oysters, and wife ordered a peach/mango sangria. Wife said sangria was very good and the Wings & Hoecakes were also very good. Tres leches French toast very good. I had the Shrimp and grits-would definitely order again. Chargrilles oysters were good. Chicken Biscuit-biscuit was good but chicken was very dry. This was the least favorite item. Other than that, would definitely return again. A little pricey but still good. Returned and was not disappointed. Just as good as the first time. Good food and drinks.

We visited on a Saturday around 4:30. We were told that we are required to have a reservation, but because they weren’t as busy as they normally are, we were allowed a table right away. We weren’t aware that reservations were required. (I guess failure to research on our part) The booth we sat in was so uncomfortable and the table doesn’t move, so we felt squished for the duration of the visit. Our waitress was the sweetest and most hilarious, I regret I can’t recall her name. My husband and I both ordered the chicken and fish with sides of mac n cheese, potato salad, and green beans. Everything was freshly made and seasoned to perfection! Although we were asked to leave for another group to be seated (I guess we were taking too long to leave the table after packing up our leftovers), we do plan to return out of curiosity to try additional dishes.

This was our second trip here. We are from out of town and met a friend here who lives in Houston, at his suggestion. We really enjoyed the first meal and wanted to come back. We came at 1:30 p.m. on a Wednesday. We easily found a parking spot, but there aren't a lot of spaces. Our party of three was seated immediately. We had the same waitress as on our first visit, and she was fantastic (again). I had the Everything Gumbo and the Fried Catfish and Shrimp Combo, with green beans. The table had grilled oysters and sweet potato biscuits. The oysters were outstanding! The gumbo was dark and flavorful. The catfish was well cooked, not too soft, just as I prefer. The biscuits were fine. I didn't care for the green beans at all. They were long cut and hard, and not my style. The tea is good here. They have clean restrooms here. A man, who I believe to be the owner and/or manager, visited with us a bit before we left and was very nice. This a great spot, and I will certainly come back when in town. I would have rated it a five the first time, so consider this a 4.5.

Visiting Houston and in the mood for fried catfish, friends took us here; so yummy! Sunday night, late dinner so restaurant wasn’t too busy, service was attentive and thoughtful. We started with the recommended homemade biscuits; heavy but amazingly fluffy. We ordered the fried chicken & fried catfish combo, red beans & rice, and a bowl of gumbo to share. So delicious! Forgot how much we’ve missed living in the south.

1st time eating there, there was a 30 minute wait and the hostess added our name to waiting list .or so we thought we waited and saw a few people leave and still no text or call so decided to call and ask if our table was ready . We were told we were not on the waiting list but that there were several tables available and we could go in . The shock on the hostess face when we walked in said it all! Our waitress Whitney was the best although she was serving 3 other tables she got our drinks and order out fast and she kept checking on us! Biscuits are delicious, Chicken had an amazing crisp to it and was juicy BUT it was Salty , mashed potatoes and green beans are also delicious and their Tea is soooo good ! So if they add you to waiting list make sure you call and check if you don’t get a txt in time.

This place definitely has delicious and moist fried chicken. We had the chargilled oysters...DELICIOUS! The biscuits were buttery and moist, and their jams were great, especially the strawberry jam. I had the greens and red beans as sides. The greens were pretty good. Red beans were flavorful but more of a country cooked flavor versus the Louisiana expected flavor. My boys thought the Mac and cheese was nice and cheesy but needed a little salt. The miso wings were on point!! My children want to revisit as soon as possible. Our waitress was wonderfully courteous and attentive, as well as the manager. It definitely lives up to the hype, and I'm going back for the oysters!!!

I stumbled upon Gatlin's Fins & Feather while craving chargrilled oysters, and for the most part, I was delighted. This charming restaurant seamlessly blends a classic diner aesthetic with a coastal theme, serving up fresh oysters, fried chicken, gumbo, and an array of Gulf Seafood. The atmosphere at Gatlin's is incredibly inviting. I felt a sense of comfort not only in the delicious food but also in the overall ambiance. While I personally found the catfish a bit too salty, it seemed to be a hit with other diners. If I return, I'll definitely be heading straight for the chargrilled oysters and enjoying the lively atmosphere. I'll also be exploring their beverage menu and perhaps opting for grilled options instead of fried, as the breading on the fried dishes wasn't quite to my liking.

Came in for brunch on a Saturday. The Food was just okay. The biscuits are the best thing on the menu. The gumbo tasted burnt. The fried catfish and wings were also fine. The creamed corn was really creamy. Service is not good tbh. I was searching for my waiter when I needed something and the restaurant isn’t that big so I wonder why.

It was a busy Sunday. Drive thru window was blocked so I went in to order at not busy counter. It took a minute to order three dinners while my friends were on the phone. The clerk was very patient and helpful and the Order went smoothly and quickly enough after repeating it to verify. No one in line after me. Always check your take out before leaving counter !! I ordered white meat chicken breast on 1order and my friend was very disappointed when she opened to fine 2 legs and a thigh instead of the breast she ordered. I had to share my fish. I didn’t want chicken so it was a waste of money and time. Didn’t have time or energy to return to restaurant . Also FYI the collard greens are VERY spicy hot!! Still not sure how many pieces of fish on plate with 1 side ? Thought she said 3 .. I got 2 ($20)

Our server, Laurie, was an absolute delight. She let our group of 10 know that she and one other server were covering the entire restaurant that day. Despite being busy with several tables, Laurie remained kind, pleasant, and as attentive as she could be. There was a small miscommunication on my part regarding brunch—it’s only served on Sundays—but the food we ordered was still absolutely delicious. I’ll definitely be returning! While this location isn’t ideal for large groups, they still managed to accommodate us, and we truly appreciated that.

I attended brunch with some ladies from my social club and it was my first time here but I’ve heard good things. This place is small but was packed and busy the entire time I was there so much so they had to turn some folks away who didn’t have a reservation. Now on tho the food! I ordered the everything gumbo - 3 out of 10 *the gumbo looks very enticing but the flavor just wasn’t hitting for me The fish and wings combo- 10 out of 10 *both were seasoned and fried to perfection Mac and cheese for the side ($1.50extra) - 9 out of 10 *very creamy and cheesy and a large portion One of the ladies ordered biscuits for the table and they were delicious! Super moist and dense plus the jams add just the right amount of sweetness 😋 We also ordered a peach sangria carafe to share and that was very yummy as well! I will definitely make my way back there to try more menu items

1st time and was pleasantly surprised 😮 Informed that they make everything in house and there were signs in my bites as I ate that it might be true I should have tried the chicken being how our server told us it was the gem. I chose a shrimp Po Boy with a cup of gumbo and a side of red beans and rice along with Not my Mommas biscuits THESE ARE A MUST TRY it came with a seasonal jam which it's name escapes me ( not sure what they put in it but just the sheer weight , yes "Weight" tells you it's going to be different I loved my beans and used a biscuit to add to it My Po Boy was great , it came with a cocktail sauce that looked unassuming but cleared my sinuses because I thought it was just a basic sauce I was wrong and it was delicious My friend ordered the chicken wings ( but was to greedy to give me any 😒 but he enjoyed them ) His fish fish was crispy and well seasoned and his greens were nice Now the only dish I didn't entirely care was my gumbo ( I love gumbo and had hopes ) I guess I'm just not to keen on a dark rue and to me made it over baring taking away from the shrimp and sausage, other than that , I'll be back for that chicken

First time visiting and we were thoroughly impressed! We arrived on a Friday evening and were seated right away. The restaurant is small but really cute and gives retro diner vibes. It was clean, aesthetically pleasing, and seating included tables, and booths. We ordered a variety of items including the most delicious biscuits ever, they were as soft as a cloud and the butters/jams paired perfectly with them! We also tried redfish & risotto, grilled salmon, fried chicken, and oysters. All were really flavorful! The only complaint is that they did not bring all of the food out at the same time. As we continued to wait for the remainder of the items, the food that we did receive was getting cold. Overall it was a really good experience!

Not "The Best Fried Chicken in Houston" Here's Why; Despite the bold claim on the sign, this place is not the best fried chicken in Houston—not by any stretch. I convinced my husband to drive over an hour based on glowing food reviews I saw on social media. Being that it was “my people,” I trusted the hype. Unfortunately, it didn’t deliver. Let’s start with the highlight: the biscuits. Each order comes with three, and we added the butter/jam trio—bacon jam, prosecco strawberry jam, and homemade honey butter (additional cost). That bacon jam? Phenomenal. Honestly, I didn’t even get a picture, and that says a lot. While not the best biscuits I’ve had, they were definitely moist, tender, and flavorful—top 5 experience, easy. My husband got the 5 whole wing plate with fries and a side of fried shrimp. I had the catfish and wing plate, which came with a solid-size fillet of real catfish (not Swaii, thank goodness) and a side of house-made grits, and yes—I’m Southern, no explanation needed. IYKYK. They let you know up front that everything is made to order. I appreciate that. We didn’t mind the wait and finished the biscuits while we waited—again, delicious. Now for the letdown: the flavor. The wings were incredibly tender but completely underseasoned. My husband asked for ketchup, which we never do with wings. The catfish? Same story—well-cooked but totally bland, even the batter. The grits were another disappointment. Not only were they cold, but the flavor was lacking. The butter helped, but that’s about it. The service, however, was fantastic. Friendly, attentive, and welcoming—truly the best part of the visit. Would I go back? Maybe for the biscuits and jam. But if you’re driving from a distance for "the best fried chicken"—keep driving.

This was my first time along with two other guest. The gumbo was a total disappointment based on taste. File' makes gumbo taste like gumbo. It had no flavor. It had nice portions of seafood and meat, but it tasted like loose Brown gravy juice with no seasoning. The same for the catfish and shrimp, No seasoning which took away from the experience. When you eat food there has to be some type of seasoning. We ask the waitress about it but she said something about "Texas gumbo" and I said what? We make gumbo with flavor and most of all just enough file' to make it taste like gumbo. Cooks need to revisit how they season the food. No one wants to eat bland food. I know I wasn't the first person to comment on the gumbo. I didn't send it back because I knew I would season it properly at home. The other guest had the chicken wings which were seasoned so what happened with the seafood?

I ordered Chicken Wings and Red Beans and Rice ! It tasted super Cajun and tasty ! The wings were a little over done!! The wings. Texture was a little rubbery from being overcooked or twice cooked.! the weight staff was amazing and the restaurant had a lot of charm! I will definitely try it again!

I really had high hopes for this place after seeing it all over Instagram lately, so I decided to try it today. I was very disappointed to say the least. The kitchen was extremely slow, although it was only 4 pm and there was what looks like a full kitchen staff. We ordered the biscuits and bbq shrimp as an appetizer and that took about 30 minutes to come out. Why it took so long, I have no idea. The biscuits were wonderful, just as other people have said, and the shrimp were just okay. I ordered the wings and catfish combo with red beans and rice and my partner order the whole wing platter with red beans as well. To start, the red beans were the blandest things I have ever eaten in my life. I have never seen something that actually looks good be so devoid of flavor. It was highly disappointing to say the least. No amount of salt and pepper that I added saved that dish. Sadly, the same can be said for the catfish. It was nice and crunchy, but absolutely bland and had no flavor. How a restaurant can mess up catfish so much is beyond me. It looked so good, but was so horrible. To be fair, the chicken was really good and lived up to the other reviews of it. How the chicken can be seasoned so well, and the catfish be the forgotten step child is a mystery. I can't say that I would ever go back to this place, but if you go, the chicken and biscuits are the way to go.

The food was ok. The biscuits were great. The service was ok but what got us was the nickel and diming on the bill. We ordered the biscuits but we were charged $1.50 for the butter and jam… when I ordered a breakfast burger that comes with fries, the waitress asked what side I wanted so I thought I can pick something else so I said macaroni & cheese. The bill showed a $1.50 charge for a macaroni & cheese upcharge… That left a bad taste in our mouths as we felt nickel and dimed.

First off, we were put on a wait list which was okay. But after waiting quite a while, I walked back in and there were available seating. The lady that put us on the wait list wasn't there so another lady sat us and even gave us a choice! A table or booth? Wow, 1st red flag! My husband’s gumbo was all rue! Very little meat, which looked as though we got the bottom of the pot! My wings came out red, so they were sent back then given smaller wings that were a little more cooked but still not as done as they should have been. Spoke with a manager (a young lady) all she said was that she would speak with the chef. To add injury to insult the lady at the front desk who put us on the wait list, looked at us and didn't open her mouth as we walked out. The bright spot was our waitress, Laurie. The wait was absolutely too long for such a disappointing dinner. We have been here several times even celebrated a birthday there. However, this will not be our 1st choice anymore.

I have had gatlins before and enjoyed the food, so I decided to try and bring my friend while she was in town. We walked in early Sunday afternoon and I gave the hostess my name and number that she wrote on a piece of paper. She said it would be 45 minutes but we are the next people in line. We waited and a few people came out of the restaurant, so we thought it would be own turn soon. 45 minutes later, we called to ask about a table. The woman on the phone said they didn't have a Taylor on their tablet waitlist. I replied that my name and number was written down and she talked with someone else before I was indefinitely put on hold. I hung up and called back again and got a roundabout response that other people were waiting and she would call when they were available and never called back. Our time, which for my friend was limited on her Houston visit, was disrespected with hours spent waiting for nothing. I was beyond disappointed because me and my friend were super hunger and I was excited to dine there again. Haven't had service like this in my time in Houston.

I want to start by saying our server, Laurie, running circles around the rest of the staff, she's amazing! Our reservation was at 3pm and as we were sat we were informed there were no clean silverware but it would be out promptly. When we got out starter (biscuits) we had to ask for silverware but one lady said they were working on it. We waited and were given plastic utensils but our biscuits had gotten cold about 30 minutes later. I ordered the fish and shrimp plate which was so oily and soggy. One plank was smaller than my hand, I will say other tables got large pieces. I asked for the manager which was working the expo. I showed her my fish and she did say it should not come out the way it did, gummy and oily. She knew that was a terrible product but as an expo still served it! Insane! Ask she said thank you for your feedback... Okay. You can tell the lack of work ethic was prevalent in the establishment and it's a darn shame the only server that cared was working extremely hard.

From the moment I walked in for my solo visit, the tone of the experience felt off. I was greeted not with a welcome, but with a handful of lingering stares that made the start of the meal unnecessarily uncomfortable—especially considering I was simply there as a paying customer. Unfortunately, the service didn’t improve from there. My server checked on me only twice over the course of an hour and forty-five minutes, and that was including the one time I had to flag her down myself just to ask for a water refill. I also requested a second serving of bread—something that typically comes complimentary with most oyster entrées—and even that felt like an inconvenience. As for the food, the oysters were firmly mediocre. Nothing memorable, nothing worth the wait, and certainly nothing to make up for the lackluster service. To put it simply: terrible service, forgettable oysters. If you’re craving seafood, you’re better off heading to Rouxpour—even at double the price—unless, apparently, you happen to fit the “preferred customer” profile based on appearance. This was my second visit, and I can confidently say it will be my last.

The food tonight was not good. I’m not sure if it’s because it was close to closing but my goodness , unseasoned catfish, the roux of the gumbo tasted burnt and the collard greens must’ve had sugar in them, hot sauce could not save any of these entrees. First time here and truly disappointing. Ms. Whitney was a wonderful waitress. I’m going to assume that the lack of seasoning is to appease a certain audience but I’ll leave that where it’s at.

I have a suggestion for the establishment. I was recommended to eat at the restaurant because they had good food. After searching for the address. I drove to the restaurant on a Sunday after church. I live close to the Woodlands to be told once I got there that on Sunday I needed to have reservations. Or it would have been 1 hour and 15 minute wait or I could order it to go. If that's your policy please put that on the website that on the weekends. Reservations are required.

We had a reservation at 8pm we got there exactly at 8pm, the host was no where to be found, we waited almost 15 minutes until someone finally acknowledged us, by this time a black lady had came in behind us and she was helped despite us being infront of her. The host was not very pleasant, she informed us our table had been given away because we were “late”, we explained to her we had been waiting there for about 15 minutes but she did not really care to listen. It was odd that our table had been “given away” if no other customers had been helped since we got there and so much for a grace period. She told us we could join the waitlist and maybe we could eat today. We agreed to be on the list because we were already there. We went to our car to wait and then proceeded to watch the hostes come out the back door and play around with other employees hence that’s probably what she was doing while we were just waiting to be acknowledged. We decided to leave because it seemd if you weren’t a black individual they did not care whether you ate there or not. Unfortunately, we did not get a chance to try their food, we read many great reviews and we were excited to try. I would love to give them another chance as the restaurant itself had a nice ambiance and the food smelled great. The host (black lady with glasses) would greatly benefit from some customer service training, as the front of the house you create a tone for a restaurant which is important. We also called that same night and left a voicemail for the manager of this establishment and were never received a response.

Had dinner st Gatlin's Fins and Feathers tonight 3/7/2026 with loved ones. Ordered fried chicken wings and loved ones ordered fried catfish and shrimp and African Inspired fish served on jambalaya rice along with cold slaw for all of us. We were very disappointed. The catfish was as if it was just fried so fishy without any seasining on it. The shrimp were fried but without any seasoning. The fried chicken had undoubtedly been warming and then put back in hot grease to make hot like it had just been cooked and it too was fresh without seasoning and oh so greasy. The adverstisement shown on the internet must be staged. The food we had was not like that at all. It was not even good. Our first time coming and our last time. Thst commercial wuth Tameka

Fin and Feathers in Houston delivered one of the most underwhelming and overpriced dining experiences I’ve encountered recently. The visit set a tone of nickel-and-diming from the start, and the food quality plummeted from there, leaving us with a $74 tab for a lunch that felt actively disappointing. The low-highlight of the evening was, ironically, the $7 biscuits (three small pieces) for which we were immediately charged an extra $1.50 for anything to put on them. This early sign of poor value quickly translated to the main courses. The chicken wings we ordered were notably small and excessively salty. This was paired with a side of Brussels sprouts, which the staff touted as "the best in town"—a claim that is demonstrably false. They were barely seasoned, seemingly just fried, and were easily eclipsed by superior local options, such as those found at Truth BBQ. Our second main item, the nachos, was baffling. Instead of classic black or refried beans, they were topped with red beans and sausage, reminiscent of a beans and rice dish—a questionable choice for nachos. The "lump crab meat" tasted cheap, and worse, I encountered a piece of shell. Trying to salvage the dish, we added the $10 shrimp extra, which turned out to be cold, poorly flavored, and chopped up, feeling like far less than the implied five medium shrimp. In total, with one extra drink and the tip, the bill was $74 for lunch. Given the incredibly poor execution and suspect ingredients, the value proposition is non-existent. I strongly recommend dining elsewhere in Houston, as the quality on offer here does not remotely justify the prices or the surprisingly positive reviews found online.

The gumbo was terrible! It was like I was eating broth, so watery and bland and definitely not worth the price. The fried oysters were highly breaded with no seasoning. I heard the fried chicken and greens are the best things they serve, but they won't get a dime more out of me.
