This restaurant is popular with older folks for several reasons. Good food. Good service. Non-rediculous prices. But also, booths and low density crowds that allow older patrons to actually hear each other in conversation. I can personally recommend the deviled egg appetizers, the Thai salmon special (perfectly cooked), the Key Lime pie and creamed spinach. Desserts good, but limited selections.

The best carrot cake I've ever had. The icing isn't too sweet. The cake is moist and delicious. I had the prime rib, and it was pretty tasty. Great atmosphere, great service, and great food. Definitely recommend it.

J’Alexander’s is fantastic. Service, food, and ambience are fantastic. I have had so many items on the menu. You cannot go wrong with anything. From drinks and appetizers to entrees and desserts, all are always consistent and delicious. Brassiere chicken is my favorite entree and the key lime pie is to die for. Will always be a regular.

The star of the evening was undoubtedly the BBQ Baby Back Ribs, slow-cooked to perfection in Plum Creek BBQ sauce. I rarely use the word 'best', but these ribs were unparalleled in their tenderness and flavor. The lightly toasted exterior beautifully contrasted with the moist and succulent interior, making each bite a delightful experience. Equally noteworthy was the Brasserie Chicken, a delectable dish featuring expertly breaded chicken adorned with tomatoes and capers. Our waiter's recommendation to have the sauce on the side proved wise, allowing us to appreciate the freshness and subtle flavors of this culinary masterpiece. The service at Merus Grill was truly a cut above the rest. The staff operated as a seamless unit, attentively caring for each table, ensuring every guest was satisfied and well attended. They have one of the best shrimp Louie salads around. It is a huge portion. This is one of my favorite things here but they do everything well. Great spot in the Galleria area in Uptown Houston. I had the Gulf Red Snapper on a mother visit, it was delicious and perfectly cooked. Very good restaurant and great friendly service.

Last night I held a wonderful small birthday dinner for my mother last night at Merus Grill. Everything was so good! The shrimp appetizer, spinach queso, and deviled eggs were a great start! My cousin ordered the steak and fries and she said it was the perfect medium. My brassarie chicken was full of flavor. My mothers pork chop was so tender. I had another cousin order the crab cakes and they were very nicely sized. Another cousin had the ribs and she said they were very good but could use a little salt. She loved the sauce they use. Our waiter even brought my mother’s key lime pie out with a candle to end the night. Overall this was a great experience at a restaurant none of us had ever tried. Oh and the drinks were very good as well I had a sparking Paloma and midnight margarita both were strong and full of flavor! Thank you Merus Grill for a great first impression.

My family and I visited Merus for my birthday and I was extremely pleased with our experience. The staff is very friendly, the ambiance is cozy and inviting, there is a fairly extensive wine and beverage list, and everything we ordered was delicious! We ordered appetizers and drinks with our meals and I was pleasantly surprised at the reasonable pricing (as far as find dining restaurants go). I will definitely be visiting again!

Excellent food and service. We had the pleasure of being served by Alex who was attentive and friendly. Our appetizers as well as our entrees were exquisitely prepared, presented and full of flavor. The restaurant is very clean with a lovely ambiance and a lively atmosphere. Merus Grill is doing everything right! I highly recommend it for an enjoyable eating out experience.

Husband and I tried this place for the first time for Valentine's Day dinner. Wavered between a 4 or a 5. The food was decadent - creamy, flavorful, has a little kick but overall a little heavy. Calamaris and marinara sauce were probably my favorite, plus the Mac n cheese, but couldn't eat much of any of my food (trout almondine with mustard beurre blanc and couscous and broccoli) - while the char on the trout was exquisite, the big couscous with bell peppers was difficult to eat for me in terms of flavor combo with the beurre blanc. The parmesan on the couscous and broccoli made them palatable. The Mac n cheese was heavenly but again was so decadent that we could only eat half. We also got dessert which was gigantic - appreciate their big portions. They also didn't have any sweet tea (only non sweet) when I asked for half and half, and that didn't have non caffeinated fruit teas - one server said they had chamomile but then they didn't. Our server Jim was absolutely fantastic and so thoughtful and sweet, not annoying or imposing, very respectful. The ambience was calm with candles and dim lighting. I really liked our booth and felt we had a lot of privacy. Note that you need to make a reservation ahead of time - a guy came in with his wife and child and said that they were on the wait-list but the hostess said they were fully booked for the night. Probably will order the salad next time and it'll prob be a 5.

cute date night spot! I love the interior and the service was great. we were checked on frequently. I ordered the cajun steak with mac and cheese. I loved the steak but the mac and cheese wasn’t incredible. my bf tried the filet and it was not as soft as other filets we’ve tried. the menu advises they have a different style of cooking the meat so maybe that was it but we didn’t live it. the appetizer was the hong kong shrimp and I enjoyed that a lot. for dessert we tried the chocolate cake slice and that was redeeming for my bf. he loved it. it was moist and decadent.

I’ve dined here multiple times. The service is usually good. I gave it 4/5 stars because 3/4 times I went, I had to send my side items back to the kitchen because they were cold. I would recommend and I would dine here again. Here’s what I’ve tried. 🔷 Snapper, served with mashed potatoes and cabbage. $40 🔷 Midnight Margarita. $14 🧡 Brasserie Chicken, served with mashed potatoes and broccoli. I ask for my broccoli 🥦 “well done”because I prefer it softer. $24 🔷 Emerald Coast Shrimp. Battered and fried Gulf Shrimp with honey Dijon and cocktail sauce. $17 🔷 Pan Roasted Salmon. $32 🔷 Sauza silver rocks tequila margarita. $10 🔷 Mac & Cheese. $7 ✅ Great price for the quality and quantity of food they serve ✅ Free parking 🅿️ in the attached surface lot ✅ Nice atmosphere 🤔 I like Merus wayyyyy better than J.Alexander. the place was very welcoming. we booked a reservation. the drinks were very strong. i ordered a cucumber flavored martini. didn’t even need to order another one. i also had the new york strip with mac n cheese which definitely filled me up. i recommend it. we also had carrot cake for desert which tasted amazing, unfortunately i don’t like eating pieces in my food but for those who do it was actually nice! i will be returning.

Sunday brunch after church. Somewhat disappointing. It was dark and cold inside on a sunny day. While our servers were knowledgeable and polite, service was slower than should be expected. We all ordered steaks - 2 medium, one medium well. What came out was 2 medium rare and one medium/medium rare. We brought this to their attention - but no accommodation was offered. Lesson learned. Not likely to return.

I am writing to share a very disappointing experience I had at your restaurant 11/10 around 1:30PM during my recent visit. My server, Jason, provided extremely poor service from the moment I was seated. It took him a long time to come to my table. When he finally arrived, I ordered a drink and was about to order an appetizer, but he walked away before I could finish. When he returned with water, I asked if you still offered the smoked salmon dip. He said, “No, we don’t,” and walked away again before I could place another appetizer order. His behavior throughout the visit was dismissive and made me feel unwelcome. I couldn’t help but feel that I was being treated differently because of my skin color. This was very disheartening, as I am always a respectful customer and a generous tipper, regardless of a server’s background. Because of how uncomfortable and disrespected I felt, I decided to get up and leave. When I did, Jason ran to the door as if he suddenly realized I was leaving due to his poor service. I want to acknowledge that the hosts were absolutely wonderful — they immediately offered to reseat me, assign a new server, and even suggested I speak with a manager. Their kindness stood out and truly reflected the kind of hospitality I’ve always associated with J. Alexander’s. I have always loved dining at your establishment, but unfortunately, after this experience, I do not plan to return. I hope this feedback is taken seriously and used to ensure that all customers — regardless of race — receive the respect and attentive service they deserve.
