Firstly, the egg salad sandwich was delicious. The bread was fresh and toasted to perfection, and the egg salad filling was flavorful and satisfying. The fresh crisp lettuce and tomato was piled high giving the sandwich that extra crunch. My cup of cold cucumber soup was a refreshing and light addition to the meal. The soup was chilled, with a refreshing flavor that complemented the egg salad sandwich well. It was the perfect choice for a warm sunny day and left me feeling rejuvenated and satisfied. The service is also outstanding, as the owners are there running it all. They provide wide array of menu options, which includes both lunch and dinner. They open at 9am and close at 2:00 pm. Overall, I would highly recommend The French Cafe, especially if you're looking for a cozy and welcoming atmosphere with excellent service and delicious food. Their sandwiches and cold cucumber soup are two options that I would definitely recommend trying.

The French House has been on my list for a while. It's different than a regular American diner that everything is jumbo size and typical, yet everything here at the French house is exquisite. The portion, ingredients, and atmosphere will make you feel that the owner really has a good taste. Their weekend waffle is good, crispy outside soft inside. Their omelet is very flavorful and satisfying. The biscuit that comes with the omelet is something that caught my attention. Creamy buttery taste and is not dry at all. Their salad is something that I would like to try out next time. Everything here looks tempting and tasty.

Been coming here with my family for over 30 years. Clean, delicious and meticulous standards for quality. Plus the entire staff have been there for ages, so it says a lot about the work environment; you can tell they make everything with love. The French House is an excellent place for breakfast. I love the omelettes and for me a good coffee is a must and they have it.

Updated 11/10/24 Still AWESOME. Not for everyone, especially the McDonald's gourmands and Taco Bellians. Clean, delicate, well prepared food. Again, not for everyone. Update 7/23/23: Still OMG AWESOME. Tried the bread pudding. Best I have ever had. THE BEST. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Update 5/21/23: STILL the best breakfast spot in Houston. Everything spot-on Excellent. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Original Review: Our new favorite breakfast place. First time here based upon high recommendations from multiple friends. The French House lives up to its stellar name and reputation. This place is THE REAL DEAL. Incredible breakfasts. INCREDIBLE. Everything spot-on excellent: Waffles: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ French Style Omelette: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Eggs, Sunnyside Up: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Biscuits: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Hash browns: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Bacon: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Coffee: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Cleanliness and ambiance: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Owner & staff: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The breakfasts are simple but elegant. Flavors incredible. Would rank this as one of the BEST breakfasts ANYWHERE. Look forward to exploring the rest of the breakfast menu and their sandwiches, which get accolades from those in the know who just want great food without all the flashing lights and self promoting hoopla. If your ego requires a hip, trendy, razzle-dazzle, cutesie menu that holds up and stands the test of time like a 1980's "Flock of Seagulls" haircut, this is not the place for you. Summary: Understated elegance and culinary finesse. Pristine/Clean. Genuine. Honest. High quality food. It's about the food here, not the photo op. The French House is genuine and excellent. They know who they are and they are not trying to be something they are not. Rock solid. Real deal. All about the food. Sure, it looks simple but the cook on the food and the flavors separate The French House from other breakfast restaurants including old school diner fare, like Avalon as well as trendy spots like Snooze. Simply excellent. NOTEWORTHY: 1. Omelettes are French styled omelettes. More refined, more flavorful than traditional American omelettes that are filled with ingredients. MOST ENJOYABLE. A real treat. 2. Biscuits are the best we've had in Houston, EVER. Not 2nd best. THE BEST. 3. YUM to the tenth power times seven divided by one. 4. The people are awesome. Owner and his staff are super nice. Customers also friendly and acknowledge one another. Kind of like University days. Actually saw and visited with people we knew on our first visit. Enjoy!

I saw many people recommending this place, so I decided to give it a try. Their omelet is packed with generous ingredients, with fillings almost spilling out. The flavors are perfectly balanced, leaving me wanting more after every bite. The egg salad is wonderfully harmonious, with just the right amount of lettuce and bacon adding extra layers of flavor. The orange juice is freshly squeezed, with no hint of bitterness, giving me the impression of enjoying fruit straight from the farm. The restaurant has a great ambiance, decorated with numerous paintings, and is impeccably clean. The background music is subtle and unobtrusive, ensuring a pleasant dining experience. The restroom is spotless, with no excess water, no dampness, and no unpleasant smells. The owner is a true gentleman, adding to the overall charm of the place.

Cozy and quiet breakfast place. The kind of place to build into your routine because all the food is fresh and the employees want you to get your food the way you want it. If you like coffee, they offer 3-4 exotic sounding syrups, like lavender! All items made from scratch , nothing processed. Vegetarian options. I usually have breakfast there but my family swears by their lunch menu! Picky eater approved:) Great brunch meet up location in Houston near the Galleria-ish area.

I drive 4.5 hrs at least 4 times a year to eat this chicken salad. There is no better chicken salad on the planet. If you are coming to Houston or you live in Houston, you better do everything in your power to come down and try this. It will change your whole life.

Best chicken salad, egg salad, and tuna salad in Houston. There is no place like it. French house has great sandwiches, soups, salads and breakfast items as well. This place has been a staple in my family for over 25 years. 10/10

Amazing food always...I moved away and was in town last weekend and got the chance to eat here....and was not disappointed! Always wonderful....you have to try the green potato salad. Another special touch the owner remembered me and was kind and came to out table for a nice conversation. It was my boyfriend's first time here and he told the owned "We will definitely be back!"

This is a longtime favorite restaurant of mine. I’ve been going here over 20 years. I like their classic sandwiches on French bread dress just like they suggest. I usually get pastrami or ham. The chicken salad is some of the most popular in the city and my family often gets that Salads are excellent with fresh Romain homemade ranch or vinaigrette. Don’t forget to pick up one of their tarts. The cherry tart is consistently on our menu for the holidays. On weekends they offer bread pudding, which is also Very tasty. Don’t forget to say hello to David who is generally on the cash register. He and his lovely wife are the owners stop by the French House for excellent food!

This place was okay, nothing fancy like an IHOP or pancake house but very clean. The food was great but a little overpriced. Paying over $25 for an omelette, coffee and water?? Plus no discount for seniors or veterans???? Seems like we get no respect anymore. Very sad. Be prepared to shell out top dollar for food at full price, no discount at all. I heard about this place but didn't expect to pay extra. Be warned.

I see a lot of folks like this place, but it's a ok place to me. I consider it a expensive knock off of La Madeleine. The inside looks more like a diner than a French cafe. The display near the register had some deserts that I may try in my next visit. The menu is simple and direct. I did see some sandwiches and soups that folks were getting and they looked good. Unlike La Madeleine, you have to place your order and pick it up from the counter in most cases. The presentation gets a B. The monogram plates was a nice touch. My omelette was not runny with a little fluff and that's a plus. The waffle was perfectly cooked, golden brown and the syrup and berries with whipped cream brought the right balance of sweet and savory. This is a spot you would go to as an alternative to your weekend breakfast spot. Not every weekend, but if your regular spot is crammed with folks then this could be your "one in the pocket".

This was my first time at this restaurant. It has been a recommendation so I wanted to try. The food was good but the person at the cashier (an Asian guy) was very unapproachable and has a very serious attitude to be in that kind of business. It is expected to have someone smiling, welcome people to the restaurant but unfortunately that was not my experience. Customer service is a BIG peace in a restaurant business.

I've eaten here twice, several weeks apart. The first time was excellent! The food was outstanding. The bacon was cooked to order, the eggs were perfect, and the toast was perfect. The second time not as good. The bacon looked like it was left over from the prior day's breakfast, and the waffle was cold when served. Service is basically self-serve, so not sure why a yip is requested for picking up your own food, coffee, table service, and condiments. If you like European strength coffee this the place for you. I will give it one more try, but there are other places in Houston that provide superior food and service in the same price range - $15 to $20 per plate.

Stopped in for the 1st time (visiting Houston), and got the French Toast breakfast, with a side of hash browns, an iced tea, and a coffee. Me and my mother shared it. Very unsatisfied. Everything was very bland, and tasteless. Probably the worst tasting breakfast I ever had. Very thin French toast. They were horrible. Horrible, overdone bacon. The eggs and hash browns were both just horrible. No taste. And, this place is a dive. Read lots of good reviews before coming here, and I do not get it. Houston locals must not know how a good breakfast should taste. Very regretful visit to this place.
