Opinions de Yale Street Grill Houston
Took my dad here who grew up in the Heights. This was just a couple blocks from his childhood home. He had so many memories of this place. This restaurant has done an incredible job keeping the 1940s/1950s ambience. Staff is beyond friendly. All so sweet and took the time to listen to my dads childhood stories. This made his day. Thank you to the staff and owner for keeping it original.
Food and service is really good and affordable. I love the old school feel. There's an antique shop in the restaurant which is a little odd and I think that antique shop gives off a strange smell in the restaurant.
My husband found this nice diner on Google Maps. We had not looked at any reviews and I normally look new places over before spending my money. My tummy made the decision for us because I was just extremely hungry. Well... well... They actually served turkey burgers. Mine was cooked a little too hard and the fries were very light so we had to order an extra basket to get full. Overall our sever was a nice young lady and we kept her laughing right up to when we left. The customers that dine there are mainly elders and they were quite friendly and had a joke or two for us even. If you like nostalgia then you will enjoy the decor with all the old pictures of celebrities from Marilyn Monroe, Muhammad Ali, Elvis and much more. Definitely a conversation to be had. By the way they have a great selection of deserts. Huge cakes. I had to take home a slice.
Came by for a late lunch. Place was really reminiscent of a small family restaurant-kids doing homework in the back vibes. Highly recommend for good eats and priced fairly. Staff was wonderful. The antique store in house was a crazy find. A good Sunday trip.
Take a walk into the past! This is a great old-fashioned diner, with service that seems like something you might have experienced in the early 60’s! Very friendly and efficient waitstaff. And the cook (or grill master) actually pays attention to special requests. I asked that my hash-browns be cooked “extra crispy” and the cook made them PERFECTLY!
I didn’t eat here today but I have in the past and the food is solid diner comfort food. This review is about the service and the antique shop. Such a cool selection and so nostalgic. I found a few trinkets and I had a lovely conversation with Frank. I will definitely be back for shopping and dining. Wish I was hungry today!
Classic fare in a classic diner. Choose from the counter, booths or tables and enjoy simple, tasty and satisfying meals for 1970s prices. Enjoyed a CFS lunch special ($7.95) and BLT with o-rings ($6.95), plus a slice of punkin pie (meh, but they do make their own cakes), and a little nostalgia. Bet there’s still a neighborhood coffee group that gathers every morning to solve the world’s problems.
Want to step back in time,,,,,Bobby socks, root beer float,,,,,best service, great food atmosphere was warm & welcoming our party had late breakfast( served all day) fluffy pancakes, thin shaved ham, crispy hash browns , 6 adults 2 kids with drinks $90!! Literally back in time !! Don't miss this gem
Great place to eat. It’s a vintage place like a trip back in time. This has been a restaurant sine 1923. Part of the building was a pharmacy and then a post office over time and now is an antique store. Great breakfast menu cooked fresh for you. A real diner experience from history w homemade pies and cakes as desert plus ice cream floats. Very reasonable prices and good service. We had big breaks plates and drinks. Our total bill was $22. Minor ding was the biscuits appear to have been frozen over handmade. Lots of locals eat here. A great place to go. Recommended.
Found a new gem of Houston in the Heights! The food was delicious, hot, and fresh. The menu had a great selection of breakfast and lunch plates. The service was good. This was our first time here, but I could see that the staff was familiar with the customers. It kind of gave me that small town feel. I also liked the unique layout. It's half restaurant and half antique shop, and they still have the old Yale Pharmacy sign up. Great first experience. We will definitely be returning soon!!
Quick, affordable, and easy going local diner spot. They don't try to do anything fancy , just traditional American breakfast and lunch and there's nothing wrong with that because they get it right. When we are deciding where to go for breakfast and we can't pick something, we always end up here because we know it's going to be good and easy on the wallet every time. Servers are lovely as well.
Great little diner. We had breakfast and the staff was extremely attentive. Lots of regulars and the place was quite busy. I had the waffle and my daughter had the happy face pancake, she loved the whipped cream and sprinkles. The waffle was good the coffee was better than Starbucks drip coffee. It’s very casual. My daughter loved all the 35¢ candy options. We will be back, can’t say I’ll be a regular.
Great old school diner at the edge of the Heights (been in operation since 1923). Family-oriented or good for a quick solo visit. Large menu choices. Great service. If your looking for a solid throwback dining experience check these guys out. Parking is limited, but not a deal breaker.
Asked the server about orange carrot celery juice if it was more sweet or savory. She never had it which is fine, I asked for a taste -was told I’d be charged for it. Asked her to inquire with her other coworkers to see how it was and she came back to tell me nobody had ever tried it. Not looking for any sommelier level response, just a staff member who’s aware of what they sell and what’s on the menu. So maybe just a takeout kind of place not worth paying for the service……..
Service wasn't that great we entered the establishment looking lost nobody greeted or looked at us until we saw a sign which said "seat yourself" we sat ourselves and waited a long while until a server came to us. We were confused about certain things and the waitress didn't help that much and the food was very bland and plain nothing special. The wait time to receive your food is ridiculously long for something that is simple. We won't be coming back here.
Becareful, they over charge you. They dont give you a bill, you have to go the cashier to pay. You never see a bill. I went on Wednesday, we ordered 2 Club Sandwiches & water. We were charged $28.00. The Club Sandwiches are $9.95 each....so how did come up with $28.00
I just thought it was my duty to let the world know. Don't waste your money or your time. Save your stomach. They served me raw meat and that's a big problem because half of the customers in there were of senior citizen age. Just be careful guys. Saving money isn't worth it here
I have gone to this place twice because of other people... Will NEVER get tricked into coming here again. I got a Waffle combo... Waffle was okay, but too cooled off to melt the rock hard fresh out of the refrigerator butter. Sausage tasted very cheap and was EXTREMELY salty. The hashbrowns were cold and undercooked.. The eggs, they were pretty good and I actually ate most of them.. The WORST of all?? WATERED DOWN SYRUP!!!? 100% inexcusable! There was so much water in it that it ruined my waffle in about a minute. I got about two good bites before it turned into a sloppy inedible mess!~ Honestly, with the cold undercooked hashbrowns and ruined waffle, I paid $16 for two scrambled eggs and some bargain basement salty sausage. DENNY'S or IHOP would have done better!!!
