Great filling sandwiches with fresh quality ingredients. If you have time they also serve full meals like pasta dishes. A great spot to go pick up a bite or have a chat and an espresso with the cute owners! Must try!
Simply put, this is one of the best Italian sandwich shops in the city. You can get overwhelmed by the selection of items handwritten in chalk on the wall. Fret not -- just order whatever you want and they'll whip it up. Give serious consideration to keeping it simply with a prosciutto, mozzarella, hot peppers sandwich -- super fresh and reasonably priced. I have also had the lasagna, which is excellent. Although this is primarily a take-out place, there are a few seats available (though at the lunch rush you may have folks waiting in line hovering over you). Credit cards are accepted but cash allows for a slight discount.
(December 2020) This is an unassuming place on 9th Avenue, squashed in between a smoke shop and something else. It's very easy to miss and we certainly would have passed by if it hadn't been for a friend stopping in to purchase a salad. The menu is written on the chalkboard wall and seems to cover all sorts of Italian sandwiches under the sun. I was immediately drawn to the fig and prosciutto sandwich - which sounds like an odd pairing-- but worked wonderfully. My partner- although he now can't remember what he ordered-- absolutely loved it as well. We also bought a 1.5 liter San Benedetto ice tea. At $5, it seems pricey, but when we returned to the hotel room to eat, it was an amazing drink! We would actually return to this location to pick up more tea for the trip home. I feel my review doesn't really doesn't really do justice to how great this place is, but I would certainly return in a heartbeat.
We bought two subs on Friday afternoon to take with us on a fishing trip on Saturday. The subs held up great, I imagine it would have been even more delicious if we had eaten them right after they were made.
Hidden little gem. Looks like an old Italian meat shop except… this one serves superb dishes. I stumbled upon this by google myself “food near me”. I had the chicken Parm with vodka sauce 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 Would love to find myself there again. A def recommend!!
Great Italian deli with amazing mozzarella! Had the number 4 Lombardia which was lovely grilled chicken with cheese and all the trimmings. Will definitely be back to try more. A little more expensive than your average sandwich spot but worth it as the ingredients are fresh. Careful at lunch time as it gets busy so know what you want to order! Staff were friendly and the lunch specials sounded great too. Some of the regular customers were on hand with recommendations.
1000/1000!! Fresh & delicious 😍 I don’t know what he does to the chipotle mayo but DAMMMM 🤤
A real New York Italian deli feel. Friendly staff. I had the pesto pasta with spaghetti and it was served nice and fresh/hot- he definitely made it a la minute. Lots of flavorful sauce. I also got one of their paninis to go for my lunch the next day and it was also good although I preferred the pasta. Maybe my issue since my panini was not fresh when I ate it. I would return. Side note: a great place for a double dip of DOSH 5% cash back and United MileagePlus dining miles!
Great place to enjoy a really, really great sandwich. Has a mom and pop old school vibe. Although limited in table space, I have yet to find someone who did not share theirs and were open to conversation over a meal. I highly recommend!
The food was great order pasta with salmone and it was a good amount, tasted good and the staff was friendly and quick to make the food
Took my last day in the city to find this place. When I walked in, there was a small group ordering and waiting...and then a flood of people. Good sign. But this was the best sandwich I've ever had. Fresh ingredients and balsamic drizzle on the mozzarella was perfect.
I really enjoyed my casual lunch here. My food was 4 stars, because my pasta with salmon really didn't have much salmon in it, but my friends' salads looked great. I might do better with a more meat and cheese selection next time.
Amazing sandwich. The guy behind the counter recommended a sandwich for me, had some chicken cutlet, hot honey, arugula and mozz - delicious! Almost bought a second to bring home to my husband!
This spot slays. This is their vegetable panini and it was simple, focused and super tasty. Eggplant, zucchini, marinated mushrooms and broccolini dressed with really nice olive oil. As a meat eater I love trying veg options at new places — if they can make this stuff sing I’m psyched to see what they can do with meat. So bummed I only found out about Sergimmo after working in the neighborhood for 10 years but I’ll be making up for that lost time by eating there regularly from now on.
Great spot for a light lunch. Just a quick walk from Penn, this Italian sandwich shop is a must try. I had the IL VIP (number 1) and was very satisfied. The sliced prosciutto di Parma, mozzarella, and fresh bread were a great combo but were only made better with the crown jewel of the sandwiche... fig spread! The contrast between the salty of the prosciutto and the sweetness of the fig spread was strong and made the sandwhich have real flavor. With so much on the menu, and such quality ingredients; I know ill be back soon. Thanks for the great food!
I had the most delicious sandwich here. The Panini of the Day was chicken with vodka sauce and prosciutto. I hope this restaurant puts this sandwich on the regular menu. I will hope to stop by this place again soon and experience this shop’s amazing food. The prices are very reasonable and the seating area is small but inviting.
We randomly found this very nice Italian Restaurant, off-side the crowded main streets and only touristic oriented other restaurants. The stuff is very friendly and helpful. We needed Pasta for carbo-loading for the NYC Marathon 😉 We got our Pasta very fast and they cook it fresh. It tastes very delicious and fresh. We can absolutely recommend this fine restaurant!
What an amazing little restaurant. The Panini's we ordered were sensational, so fresh and tasty, you can tell these people love good food. I had Umbria panini, The bread was perfectly crusty & light & the Panini was warm. Our sandwiches weren’t squished in a hot press toaster and they were the better for it. Tastes and feel like an authentic panini. It’s reasonably priced and their other pasta dishes looked lovely too. Wish we lived closer we’d order from here everyday.
Omg found my new lunch spot. Had the Pasta la Matrichiana and it was so flavorful and hearty and perfect for cold days ans when you're craving delicious pasta in general. Close to Hudson yards and Pen station. They also have paninis and sandwiches which I plan trying another time.. Don't sleep on this place!!
Most people will never know about Mr. Salumera. His past is a mystery, but remains a giant in the local food industry. His father invented the paper straw, inspiring Serg to look for his own mark of distinction. As he is fond of saying “tomorrow is the future”.
Just grabbed the Basilicata Panini for my MealPal lunch—those crispy sun dried tomatoes paired with melting mozzarella were honestly next level. Sergimmo Salumeria totally nailed those bold, savory flavors!
There aren't enough stars to rate this place! We walked in a little late at night. The owner jumped out of his seat ready to wait on us. We decided to go with the 3 meat and 3 cheese platter. We weren't sure what we wanted and also we like to try new things, so I asked him to put something together. But I asked him if he is any good at it and he said "I am the man." And he was right! We told him we liked funky cheese. We told him we liked pickles over olives. He delivered in a major way! I think the plate was like less than $30. It is way underpriced. And in NYC no less!! That plate could have fed 6 people. This guy clearly takes pride in what he does. It shows. I would definitely go back. But I fully expect they'll be so popular and be able to charge what they deserve by then. Get there while it's our little secret.
One of my new favorite Italian spots in the city. First tried the drunken chicken(chicken cutlet, vodka sauce, loaf mozz) and was blown away. Came back and tried the penne al pesto and was equally impressed. Creamy, delicious, and filling. I will be coming back to work through this menu. Incredible.
Originally wandering into this store for a pastrami sandwich, as Google had said they had one, we ended up having an absolutely lovely Italian sandwich. Their ingredients were all top quality, and each sandwich was filled with attention to the balance between said ingredients. If you're looking for a phenomenal sandwich at decent pricing, Sergimmo is my pick for the area.
My son and I went here after I did my research to find the best delis in Hell’s Kitchen, and this was consistently the top answer. We had limited time in NYC, so every place we visited had to count, and Sergimmo’s did not disappoint. I had a Caesar salad, while my son had a Pasta al Pomodoro e Basilico. Both were great, and so was the shop owner’s treatment of us, obviously not from around the area. Next time we’re in NYC, we’ll be back!
The vibe here was great. It's a cute little restaurant just a few minutes from Times Square. The sandwiches are amazing and made with very fresh bread, and the lasagna I got was delicious. Both at very nice prices too! Daily specials that make eating there very affordable and better tasting than most other quick Italian places nearby.
Omg!! I love this place. I just popped in for lunch today as we got take out quickly and met the owner - Massimo. He was so kind to tell us about his wonderful store, he’s been there for about 15 years and has done a lot to make sure he did not close thru the pandemic. And man… I’m so glad he didn’t!!! Everything is so beautiful and handmade… and omg… DELICIOUS!! We will definitely be back here in a regular basis when in town. I’m so glad we stopped in today. He has handwritten his menu on the walls and handmade the bread and cannolis… and they were OUT OF THIS WORLD. A must stop in for a reasonably priced and very delicious treat. DEFINITELY GET THR CANOLLI….
Got to the hotel and checked out for what was the closest Italian joint. Not expecting anything except for great food we went here for a late dinner. Typical hole in the wall. But awseome food and bottle of wine. I am sure partly just the fact it was our first meal in NYC on this trip....but seriously the pasta was awesome. The paninis were awesome. Would be a regular place to go if I lived here.
Had the chicken parm panini; really good! Food came out quickly, but the bread was kinda rough :/ The wooden boards for the paninis are a tad impractical, but it fits the aesthetic of the place for sure
The food is genuinely really good and fresh. I ordered a panini and the bread and ingredients in general were really good but I wish the menu was clearer because the sandwich was cold and I usually assume paninis are pressed and hot. Also the description of the sandwich didn’t include some ingredients like balsamic that were added and kind of ruined it for me and I would’ve just asked them to not include it if I had known. Overall really good sandwich just not the order I expected to get!
5/11/24 first time here, I've known about this place for some time. So i was happy to finally make it here for a sandwich. This place made a really nice sandwich, chicken and pesto, very good. I need to return for more! Nice vibe in the place too.
Their sandwiches are authentic and creative. I always get the V.I.P sandwich. Their seating area is kind of small but I usually get it to go anyways. Definitely one of the better Italian eateries in the neighborhood. Took my friends from out of town and they loved it.
i ordered the godfather which comes with three deli meats: sopressata, prosciutto, cappiocolla. the meat was of a very high quality. the flavors were perfectly balanced with the fresh mozzarella, bell peppers, and mixed greens. all of their ingredients are fresh. the only qualm i had was that bread was a little bit stiff/hard to bite through (but i’m no sandwich expert so maybe that’s how it should be?).
This feels like the place you’re gonna get whacked. Like you go in, ask for a sandwich and WHACK. You’re swimming with the fishes. Lol I’m just playing. Sergimmo salumeria is great 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 very delicious Sammie’s and it has a ton of other stuff. Place has seating room for your butt.
A legit Italian deli, like I grew up eating at. I had turkey, prosciutto, and fresh mozzarella on a baguette. It was delicious! Everything was fresh and you could taste that they're using good quality meats. The bread was chewy and crusty, although not my favorite. I liked that it was thin and it had a nice flavor, but I don't like when the breads are super dusty with flour on the outside. Either way, it was a great sandwich! If we weren't taking it to go, I'd love to have tried a panini. Maybe next time.
Incredible sandwiches await you at this charming Italian deli-style restaurant. Despite its small size, the establishment offers cozy indoor seating that exudes a warm and inviting atmosphere. The staff is incredibly friendly, and the extensive menu boasts a multitude of excellent options, making it one of our preferred destinations for sandwiches. During our visits, we have had the pleasure of trying various items, but one standout favorite is the renowned Le "vip" sandwich, which consistently garners popularity. I, on the other hand, have been more adventurous, venturing into their pasta dishes and savoring the flavors of their grilled chicken panini. Every dish is crafted using fresh ingredients, and although their pasta is delectable, it is the sandwiches that truly captivate us, beckoning us to return. The bread, in particular, is exceptional—soft and perfectly fresh, seemingly baked in-house daily. The ambiance of the place is calm and relaxed, offering respite just a stone's throw away from MSG and Times Square. If you find yourself in the vicinity and craving Italian sandwiches that are satisfying without feeling overly heavy, do yourself a favor and give them a try!
Review is more a 3.5 I've been a customer for a few years now. At first, I really enjoyed the quality they provided with their pricing but I feel like the quantity of meat they put in the sandwiches have gotten less now for $14.50 semolina hero sandwiches. I've also tried their TGTG pick ups and was also disappointed with them. The one time I got it, I got a very small portion of their pasta and veggies and did not even add up to the estimated TGTG value. I would probably only come back if meat portion size stayed the same from earlier years especially since prices have risen. Recommended sandos if u would like to visit are dapper don, Pauly, IL VIP and frank the tank . They also have a heart attack equivalent sando (don't remeber their name for it) here and that is good as well. Drinks like canned sods is $3
It was okay. Staff seemed more interested in continuing their conversation In back, rather than taking our order. Up front, the Mozzarella sticks seemed like generic pre-made. The side of sauce saved it from 1 star. The Italian Wedding Soup had some very good ingredients, but it was so heavily salted i couldn't finish it. The selection looks great and I'd go back to try something different.
Not impressed. The bread was stale and had no crunch, we had to rip it apart with our teeth rather than bite through it. We ended up only eating the cold cuts inside the bread, which were pretty average and the “sweet peppers and lettuce” were very dull almost like they had been sitting out wilting away all day. I will not be returning
High hopes, high Google review # but we were disappointed. Bread was day old at least, dry, hard, tough to bite through, devoid of flavour and moisture. Ruined the otherwise good ingredients. We bought at noon on a Sunday, maybe they buy bread earlier in the week and we got the last ones. Next time NYC, hope you do better for a sandwich.
Got the VIP Panini. Filling was good but the bread is awful. Hard to bite into and pull off, almost hurts to take a bite and try to chew it. It really takes away from the other ingredients which is unfortunate because the fig/prosciutto/mozz was a delicious combo. If you’re ordering on DoorDash, the bread pictured on this item is not representative of what you receive 🙅♀️
This was a tough call. What do you say when you have great bread great meatball and then they disappoint you when they assemble the sandwich? Ugh, so disappointing! Why do you do that to your customers!? There was basically one meatball, cut on 1/8th thick slices spread across a 7 inch baggette, barely a hint of cheese, with the marinara Brushed on. You think I'm exaggerating, see the pics. Then, you have my wife's sandwich. She ordered the prosciutto and loved it. Go figure. I just get so frustrated spending so much money and not even getting a good value.
The sandwich was good, but it was missing meat! The chicken was fresh and had enough of it(not the thickest cut) the speck(smoked prosciutto) was too little of it. If they had put more meat in the sandwich I would’ve given it 5stars. The bread was really hard for my taste including the inside part of it. For the price I expect to get more!
awful dried out overcooked chicken. Worst sandwich I've had in a long time.
So, so, SO disappointing. The truly minimal amount of meat, cheese, and other panini ingredients is just ridiculous and a ripoff. Even worse, the panini bread and sub bread were both very unappealing in texture and taste. Echoing a previous review, this place has sadly gone WAY downhill. Will not return; - so many better options nearby.
The sandwiches are really overpriced for what you get. The bread is dry and the cured meats are normal without being exceptional. The staff is really nice but not the owner, who is quite scary and rough. All in all, this feels more than a tourist trap than a good sandwich restaurant.
Ate in and were the only ones here. The pasta was pretty bland and plain and the atmosphere and service was non existent. Not the worst food you'll ever have, but certainly nowhere near the best. Given the high prices, I wish we'd gone somewhere else
I was excited to come here as I used to live in Italy for some years and I miss a good Italian panini. Sadly it wasn’t a good experience. Ordered Il VIP, bread was dry and so was prosciutto, dry and chewy, it was also cut too thick, makes it difficult to eat. No espresso, just mediocre tasting American coffee. Unfriendly girl at the cashier, just not the right vibe. I live close by in Hell’s Kitchen and will avoid this place in the future.
Got the #1 with fig jam, prosciutto di parma, and mozzarella. At least that's what was advertised. They gave me prosciutto cotto and not prosciutto di parma. Maybe a mistake but kind of suspicious when it's the top sandwich on the menu with an $18 price tag and that's the most expensive part of the sandwich. Thin anemic slices of mozzarella, not great quality. Dry bread and dry sandwich, could've used some olive oil. $23.75 for the sandwich and a can of coke. Not big sandwich either. Totally crazy. If it was buffalo mozzarella and prosciutto di parma etc, I'd get it. I don't mind paying for quality. But this ain't it. I'm a huge Italian deli fan and you have a hundred better choices between the 5 boroughs and Hudson county NJ. Don't go here. It's conveniently located for tourists, but do yourself a favor and go somewhere good.
I love a good Italian sandwich shop. This may look like one from the outside but is definitely not one. I was supremely disappointed by the two sandwiches we got here. Luckily, they were both fairly cheap so I don't feel like it was a total waste. But would not recommend. As mentioned, we got two sandies, #18 & #22. 18 was tuna with hot peppers. The hot peppers really overpower it and it's just overall such a dry sandwich. On the note of dry, the second we got was grilled chicken with Brie. I added pesto in anticipation of this being dry and cannot imagine eating this sandwich without the pesto. Maybe the most disappointing aspect was the bread. It looks like it'll be such a delicious baguette, but, again, everything is just asking for moisture. But the bread isn't even doing so in a way that it's too crisp (i.e. it's just dry....). The way it is served and the pictures make it look like they're going to be delicious, which is probably why people come. But beyond the looks, there's nothing that's super redeeming.
Very slow, and the bread is not nearly as high quality as what's pictured in some of the older reviews.
Walked in expecting a pretty delicious and fresh sandwich and walked out with disappointment. The guy who took my order seemed to be upset and passed on the vibe to customers, which can easily be ignored since everyone has a bad day, but our paninis pushed me to leave a review. Our jaws are literally sore from biting into what I can only imagine is old bread. Very disappointed cause this place seems to have potential. $66 total for two paninis and two glasses of wine.
Walked in on a Monday afternoon. Was ignored by all employees for a few minutes. Was about to walk out when owner(?) took my order of soup. Took over 10 minutes to cook and was horrible.
Bread was stale and cheese was old. Took 30 minutes to make a sandwich
Visiting New York, googled restaurants with arancini, walked a half mile to Serginmo Salumia as their online menu lists it, get to the restaurant and guess what? Not on the in restaurant menu, and after standing at the counter for 10 minutes and being ignored by the staff I left. Not worth the walk
This place is a disaster from the moment you walk in and try to communicate with any of the staff in English. The service is the slowest I’ve ever known and the bread was stale. Avoid at all costs and got to sunset deli instead.
Ordered online on Grubhub at 12:25, expected pickup was between 12:40 and 12:50. I got to the store at 12:55 and waited 15 minutes to even speak to someone since there was no one manning the register. After asking about my order, they asked me to wait 5 minutes and only then started preparing it. Preparation was done with bare hands without washing between touching the register/money, and took and additional 20 minutes. End to end, it took me 1 hour from ordering and 30 minutes of waiting at the restaurant to receive a pickup order that was improperly prepared.
Took 10 min to make one cappuccino and one espresso, and we were the only ones there. When it came the espresso cup was full of coffee grains inside and out. When I politely pointed it out, all they could say way "yeah". Also, poor ambiance with the radio blasting. I would not come here again.
I could not believe how bad my baked ziti and meatballs were. The place looked cute and cozy so thought I would take the chance but this kinda place is exactly why New Yorkers don’t trust buying food in midtown. I paid almost 20 bucks for stale baked ziti that had burnt pieces of pasta that were so tough I couldn’t chew. And the “meatballs” were old stale slices of what appeared to be dry meat loaf. Absolutely the worst ziti in the city. Nice guy behind the register tho.
This is what I called the after Christmas sloth. It's a condition of I don't feel like putting any effort into a work slump. But I suppose this all depends on the cook coming in the next day. Below are two examples of antipastos made on two different occasions. The one with the montedella over supermarket provolone cheese is by far the worst example. Lacking the fig spread, frommage, black olives and artichokes ("none available" I was told ), with barely any dressing to be had on what little lettuce that was on the bottom. I could have saved some money and made this weak combo at home. The second plate was pure perfection in terms of plating and the required accoutrements. I'm not playing Russian roulette if this is the mood with your kitchen staff, so I will congratulate you on getting my money and for me not ever recommending this place in the foreseeable future.
