One of my favorite places to eat in the city. Hard to get a reservation if not made in advance but so worth it! Food is always delicious and service is exceptional! The espresso martini and sesame mochi are beyond amazing. Always hard to stray from coming here.

5/5 Experience and I’ll be back the next time I’m in NYC! This is a vital restaurant and it has every right to be. Cons: - Not really a con but this restaurant is probably one of the most popular in NyC at the moment. Therefore it is a wait! We signed up for the waitlist via yelp and needed up waiting about 45 mins past the projected range. No biggie as we expected such but if you’re in a rush and do not have a reservation and are using the waitlist you may need to allow for wiggle room. Pros: - Yelp Waitlist - Location is super convenient - Spacious, plenty of room to sit and wait for your table. The tables are also spread out and it allows for the ambiance to be sexy, inviting, and private. - Service! With some viral establishments they miss the mark with service but not Din Tai Fung! Everyone that you encounter is warm, helpful, and knowledgeable. Kudos to this establishment for ensuing their staff is trained and top tier! - FOOD!!! Oh I still dream about our meal. Literally everything was 5/5! I’m GF and they had several delicious options that I was able to try! — We had the Shrimp Fried Rice, Pork Chop Fried Rice, Garlic Green Beans. This is literally some of the best Asian food I’ve had in years! I still dream about the first bite!!! It was so flavorful, not salty, clean and very much to the point. Our entire meal was delicious and the portions were large so we had enough to take to our hotel for a late night snack!!! - Drinks: Super tasty! I had the lychee mojito and my boyfriend just had tequila and soda! Delish! 5/5 experience and if you’re able to get a spot here I highly encourage it! You will remember this meal and experience for all of the right reasons!!!

We joined the online wait list at 10, but the line moved up very fast we ended up getting a table very quickly. This is my first time here and I was so in awe when I saw the restaurant. It was very spacious but full of customers. The staff were very generous and helpful. Someone broke some cups not too far from us and at least 3 staff came up to us and asked if we were okay. I was so touched. The food was very good. The crab soup dumplings was delicious and not fishy. I'm generally not a big fan of green beans, but these beans were so addictive! My favorite would be the chocolate dumplings. I personally like to wait until they firmed up a bit so the chocolate filling was not super runny. It's very rich though so if you're not a big chocolate fan, it might be a bit too much for you. Well.. not for me! lol Overall, a very good experience. I would definitely come back!

Absolutely loved our meal at Din Tai Fung. The spicy wontons were the standout, perfectly delicate wrappers with a flavorful filling and just the right kick of heat. The chicken xiao long bao were beautifully crafted, with that signature burst of rich, savory broth in every bite. The spicy noodles had great texture and depth, bold but not overwhelming, and tied everything together. And the mochi dessert was the perfect finish: soft, lightly sweet, and just indulgent enough. Everything tasted incredibly fresh and thoughtfully prepared. We’ll definitely be back.

I went to din tai fung with my family for the first time, and after trying to get a reservation forever (this place is so popular), we finally made it and it absolutely did not disappoint. This is easily one of my favorite restaurants I’ve been to in a long time. We started with appetizers: the cucumber salad and the sweet and sour pork baby back ribs. Both were delicious and honestly exceeded our expectations. For dumplings, we had the chicken dumplings (great) and the shrimp & pork shao mai, which were also excellent. We ordered the string beans with garlic, plus two noodle dishes the sesame oil noodles and the spicy noodles. Both were amazing, but just a heads up: the spicy noodles definitely have a kick 🌶️For dessert, we got the chocolate & mochi xiao long bao, and wow… those were fantastic. Next time I’m definitely ordering two orders! Drinks were just as good. I had the pear lychee martini and an espresso martini with a nice twist both were excellent. We also took a honey lemonade with boba to go, and that was the perfect sweet finish. The service was great, very attentive and I really liked how the food came out one dish at a time. It gave us time to enjoy everything without feeling rushed. Highly recommend. This is officially one of my new favorite spots, and my family already can’t wait to go back and try more dishes we didn’t get to this time.

Din Tai Fung absolutely lives up to the hype. From the moment you walk in, the service is warm, attentive, and incredibly polished. The food is consistently outstanding — the soup dumplings are perfection with delicate wrappers, rich broth, and perfectly seasoned filling. Every dish we tried was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully executed. The space itself is modern, clean, and buzzing without feeling overwhelming, making it great for everything from a casual lunch to a special night out. You can really tell how much care goes into both the food and the overall experience.

The hype this place gets… it’s all REAL! this was by far the best dinner I have had in NYC! Let’s start with the important part… get the chocolate dumplings…. We ordered it and then ordered another bc it was too good to share and we needed more! We also had the chicken dumplings, chicken long bao, spicy chicken wontons, shrimp fried rice and the fried noodles….. alll soooooo good. I don’t eat seafood so I had some of the rice and usually you can taste the fishiness in stuff like that but nope, it was still soooo good. I am not exaggerating, there was not one thing we didn’t love. They were out of the beans when we went so we got the garlic broccoli and idk how they made them but I think I could have possibly gotten my picky eating kids to love them (they were not with me lol) but they were delicious! The cucumber salad was good…not amazing but still good. I kinda wish the cucumbers were sliced thinner but it was still good! Truly the best meal I’ve had. Make reservations early or get on the waitlist early. It’s absolutely worth it!

Absolutely delicious—would definitely come back. We tried a great mix of dishes, including cucumber salad, vegan dumplings, pork xiao long bao, shao mai, string beans with garlic, sesame noodles, shrimp fried rice, mango shaved ice and chocolate dumplings. The string beans were my favorite, so flavorful and perfectly cooked. The noodles with sesame sauce were my least favorite, but still decent. Overall, everything was well executed and really satisfying.

Great restaurant that’s absolutely worth the hype! The atmosphere underground is really nice, with a cool design and open view of the chefs making the dumplings. The service is also on point, super attentive and the food comes out pretty fast as it’s ready. The xiao long bao, cucumber salad, green beans, everything was delicious. Their sauces are where they especially shine, worth the hype. The waitlist can be pretty long, definitely get your name down as early as possible, but still worth it.

I visited Din Tai Fung for the first time today and had an amazing experience! We started with the garlic string beans and Pork Xiao Long Bao. The bao soup dumplings had little instruction panels on the table to guide us with the proper technique and these were fabulous! For entrees we tried the Chicken Fried Noodles and Chicken Shanghai Rice Cakes. The chicken in both entrees was great. And these portions were plentiful. For dessert, we ended with the Chocolate & Mochi Xiao Long Bao with the Sea Salt Cream and these were the best dessert I’ve ever tasted in my life! The chocolate inside just melts in your mouth. I’ll be thinking about these dumplings forever! I will for sure be back next time I’m in a city where there is a Din Tai fung. I recommend reserving a table early (you can a month in advance) we got a lunch reservation a week before the day we came and there was only the one lunch time available when we booked. So definitely book far in advance for dinner reservations or more flexible times

Din Tai Fung was worth the trip! I arrived at 11:30a and was able to walk in and get 2 seats at the bar, but I highly recommend trying to set a reservation. Order anything that looks good to you on paper, especially if you’ll be sharing! Most of the dishes we got came with about 5-7 pieces, which were pretty small. The staff did a great job also. Coursing the dishes out with perfect timing, helpful tips on how to create your soy/vinegar dipping sauce, when to (and not to) use said sauce, and other things like that. Also please don’t skip the dessert. We got the Chocolate XLB and it may have been the best thing we got! The truffle and pork XLB was a close second. The only thing we didn’t enjoy that much was the hot and sour soup. It was okay but the serving size was quite large as an appetizer, even to share. Other than that, everything was great!

Don't let the entry fool you. This is one of the largest Din Tai Fung we've been to in the US. Any veteran of dining here knows one must order a side of rice when ordering the spicy shrimp and pork dumpling because no one wants to waste a single drop of that delicious sauce. We've eaten at quite a few from coast to coast so a requirement is to always order something different... today it was the kimchi and pork dumpling. The must have no matter what is the garlic green beans and spicy dumplings. But you really can't order poorly when at Din Tai Fung which is proven by the wait no matter the time of day or which coast we are at. A nod to Su Mann and Pablo for their superior service. They are a great team and transitioned so smoothly we didn't even notice any difference in service.

Love this place-- dining in requires a months in advance reservation or you can do the waitlist and get in on the same day though it might take hours like five hours or more. Everything is always perfectly prepared and presented. Soup dumplings, sautéed kale and chicken fried rice are our favorites. I love that the place is less than a five minute walk and I can get take out very quickly-- and everything is prepared and packaged up so elegantly. And always consistently delicious.

Din Tai Fung was so good! The restaurant is large, spacious, and beautifully designed, with a really cool atmosphere. One of my favorite parts was watching the team hand-make dumplings right in view—it adds so much to the experience. The food was incredible. The cucumbers were delicious, the dumplings were super fresh, and the chocolate dumplings were honestly life-changing. Drinks were excellent too. Everything came out so quickly and tasted unbelievably fresh. We had such a blast here. A must-try in NYC!

Tried a variety of dishes and everything was solid. The Chicken Xiao Long Bao were my favorite, juicy and full of flavor. We also had the chicken spicy wontons, chicken fried rice, and shrimp & kurobuta pork pot stickers, all very good. The chocolate and mochi xiao long bao were a fun and delicious dessert, and the Taiwanese oolong hot tea paired perfectly with the meal. Would definitely come back.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ We had an exceptional experience on MLK Day, thanks to our amazing server, Lynne D. (Leah Rose T.). From the moment we sat down, she truly took care of us and made the whole meal feel special. We ordered our usual favorites—wontons and xiao long bao—and everything came out hot, fresh, and quickly, just the way we love it. But beyond the food, Lynne really stood out. She was sweet, outgoing, attentive, and consistently checked in to make sure our table was well taken care of. When she realized she had forgotten to add our chocolate bread to the order, she graciously comped it, which we really appreciated. On top of that, she had us laughing the entire time—her energy and personality made our day even better. Service like this is rare. Lynne turned a great meal into a memorable experience, and we’ll absolutely be back because of her. Thank you, Lynne, for going above and beyond! 🌟

Din Tai Fung was a delight to try for our first time. Reservations recommended because wait times can be hours long! The dumplings were so delicious! And the chocolate dessert dumplings were incredible too! The following are what we’d recommend: garlic green beans, tenderloin beef, pork ribs, pork chop fried rice, dumplings, & wontons. There was a window where you can watch a team of professionals make the dumplings, which was really fun to see too! It’s quite an art! Our server was excellent! The food continually came out as it was ready. Our experience was very positive! We would love to return!

Located inside the mall, this Din Tai Fung is very spacious with both indoor and outdoor seating. We visited on a weekday for lunch and the wait time was around twenty minutes, which felt reasonable for how busy it was. The dumplings were fresh and full of flavor, and the service was organized even with the crowd. I especially liked the xiao long bao, and the chocolate version for dessert was a fun surprise and definitely worth ordering.

Fantastic experience at Din Tai Fung! The variety of dishes is impressive, and everything we tried was fresh and flavorful. I understand the hype now. Was my first time there after my wife kept raving about this place. Food was delicious, our server was so professional, items came out timely and overall a great experience. Make sure you get on the waitlist list 1 to 2 hours earlier than you’d like to eat!

We went in a big group and absolutely loved it. We tried so many dishes, I can’t even name them all here. When we first sat down, they got us some short ribs and cucumbers to apologize for the long wait. We had reservations and we still waited over 30 minutes to get our table. Well worth it. Once we were seated, everything was delicious and we were treated very well. The mango shave, ice dessert was unexpected and delicious. Can’t wait to go back.

Visited Din Tai Fung in Costa Mesa for dinner during our Orange County weekend getaway, and it was a fantastic experience from start to finish. The restaurant has a beautiful, lively atmosphere — modern yet warm, with great attention to detail in both decor and service. We ordered everything vegetarian, and every dish exceeded expectations. The vegan dumplings were perfectly steamed, light, and packed with flavor. The noodles had just the right texture, and the fried rice was simple yet delicious, full of freshness and balance. For dessert, we went with their chocolate baos — I don’t recall the exact name, but they were like warm dumplings filled with melted chocolate, and honestly, they were heavenly! It’s a dessert you must not miss if you visit. The staff was attentive and polite, ensuring we had a smooth experience despite the restaurant being busy. The service, food quality, and overall ambiance made it one of the most memorable meals of the trip. If you’re visiting Costa Mesa or nearby areas, Din Tai Fung is absolutely worth the stop — perfect for a cozy dinner or a special night out. Must-try: Vegan Dumplings & Chocolate Baos

If you ever feel like having a simple chicken soup, you should definitely go to Din Tai Fung. Honestly, it’s pretty amazing that you can just get plain boiled chicken in broth there. It’s especially nice if you’re on a light diet or not feeling your best. I should also mention that this place is very popular, and there are usually lines. But if you sit at the bar, you often don’t have to wait - that’s where we usually sit.

Hard to say anything beyond what everyone else said; excellent food, pretty insane wait time, but eating there was also quite a fast experience, the per minute cost was…something else. About the food - beef noodle was very good; the spicy wontons stole the show imo, fried rice was great, and the XLB was outstanding; pretty much worth coming just for those; service was friendly, helpful and fast!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5/5 — A Birthday Dream Come True at Din Tai Fung Costa Mesa For my 37th birthday, I finally got to check something off my foodie bucket list: dining at Din Tai Fung in Costa Mesa. I’ve wanted to go for years after seeing countless rave reviews on YouTube and TikTok — and it absolutely lived up to the hype! From the moment we arrived, the experience felt special. My friend surprised me by taking me here for my birthday, and it turned out to be everything I hoped for and more. The ambiance is upscale yet welcoming, and the staff is incredibly attentive. Our waiter, Dan was fantastic — professional, personable, and very knowledgeable. He guided us through the menu, helped tailor our order based on what food reviewers and fans recommend, and ensured we got to try all the signature dishes. His service added so much value to the evening. I really appreciated how attentive and enthusiastic he was in making sure everything was perfect. Now, the food — WOW. Every dish was bursting with flavor and prepared with care. The legendary xiao long bao (soup dumplings) lived up to their reputation — delicate, juicy, and absolutely addictive. The spicy wontons were perfectly balanced with heat and richness, and the noodles were silky and flavorful, cucumber salad, and a variety of buns — each bite was better than the last. It’s clear that Din Tai Fung lives up to its world-class reputation, not just in flavor but in hospitality. This was more than just a dinner — it was an experience. Celebrating a milestone birthday here made it all the more memorable, and I’m already dreaming about going back. If you’ve been thinking about going, don’t wait like I did. Make the reservation, go hungry, and prepare to be blown away. Thank you, Din Tai Fung Costa Mesa, for making my birthday truly unforgettable. 🥟✨

Absolutely love Din Tai Fung at South Coast Plaza! Every visit is a treat, and it’s become our go-to spot for consistently delicious Taiwanese cuisine. The cucumber salad is the perfect starter—refreshing, crisp, and bursting with flavor. The green beans are expertly sautéed with just the right amount of garlic, and the fried rice is always fluffy and flavorful without being greasy. But the real stars are the dumplings—steamed to perfection with delicate wrappers and juicy, savory fillings that melt in your mouth. Be prepared for a wait, though—it’s always busy, and for good reason. Make sure to join the waitlist through the app or online ahead of time, and don’t forget to show up when you get your notification. It’s definitely worth the wait every single time. The service is attentive and efficient, even when the restaurant is packed. The atmosphere is modern, clean, and welcoming. Highly recommend this spot for anyone visiting South Coast Plaza or just craving top-tier dumplings and Taiwanese comfort food. Five stars all the way!

Food was good here. The pork chop fried rice was tasty. And their Xiao Long Bao is always popular here. We tried crab and kurobuta pork xlb again and it’s still our favorite. For the appetizers, we had Taiwanese cucumber salad and wood ear mushrooms. They are all amazingly good. Don’t forget to have chocolate and mochi xlb. It’s a nice dessert at the end of meals.

We randomly took a ride from Boston to try this place. The restaurant itself is very nice. And all of the staff that we had encountered with were polite and in good spirits ( which means a lot! ) I really did appreciate the knowledge and recommendations from our waitress, not her fault it just did not live up to the hype, down to the drinks, very light on the pour in both ways. Martinis are barely half full when brought out to you. Our first dish came out cold ( the ribs ) we didn’t bother saying anything we both work in the industry so we def understand things happen. The Chicken fried rice was 80% eggs, the green beans almost had no garlic on them…. Our server was great overall. Unfortunately our food was mediocre. I will say it’s a pretty reasonably priced place I was expecting to pay more. I will also acknowledge how when walking by the back of the restaurant you can see the chefs hand making everything. That’s definitely an amazing touch.

we had a reservation and was seated immediately, the interior is amazing, it’s like an underground nyc bar type of look. you can see the chefs rolling the dough through a glass window. we ordered and the food came out within 10 min!!! for drinks we got the lychee lemonade and the sea salt cream iced tea. 9/10 for both!! we ordered the pork xio long boa, chicken steamed dumplings, spicy noodles, sesame noodles, spicy wontons and it came out SO fast!!! there were 6 of us, and after we ordered the chocolate dumplings which is a MUST!!! we got it with the sea salt foam, which tasted like salted caramel!! the sesame noodles were a little overhyped but everything else was really good!!! 9/10 recommend!! oh also for price??? amazing!! the bill was around 220 for all 6 of us and we got 12 entres!!

We went on a Sunday night so naturally it was quite busy and we needed to make a reservation ahead of time. The wait was about an hour, but that goes by quickly if you explore the area. The restaurant was underground and had a beautiful dark luxurious interior with low dim lighting. We ordered the cucumber salad as an appetizer which I did not have a picture of, but it was made peanut sauce which was very refreshing and was a good dish to start with before the main course. We got the sautéed bok choy which did not have much spice to it, but it had a rich buttery taste and was steamed perfectly while still retaining its crunchiness. We also got the vegetarian bun which was delightful but my favorite was the chicken dumplings which had a soup base inside along with the peanut noodles! If you love peanut butter and noodles this will be a treat. We also got the red bean, chocolate, and taro dessert dumplings which were my favorite because I have a sweet tooth. HIGHLY recommend the chocolate dumplings with the salty sweet cream, it was a perfect and delicious flavor combination. Everything we ordered came out to be around 170 dollars with tips, we also did order a lot more than two people would probably order but we decided to splurge this day. If you prefer to try alot of different dishes and not feel too full, and still have a good dining experience, this place is definitely worth trying.

This was a very pleasant meal. The server was very knowledgeable of the menu, and let us know of the classic, popular dishes that are crowd favorites. The soup dumplings’ skin was thin yet still had a great bite encasing a juicy pork filling. Cucumber with chili sauce was very refreshing and savory, great for in between dishes as a fun palate cleanser. The shrimp & egg fried rice, steamed baby bok choy, and stir fried garlic green beans were all good! Nothing crazy to write home about, and if I were honest, was definitely missing the “wok hay” in the stir fried dishes. The spicy shrimp and pork wontons were also pretty good, wonton skins were thin and made very well. Lastly, the chocolate dumplings with sea salt cream were such a fun way to remake the classic soup dumplings into a dessert. That was a lovely way to end the meal. Overall a really great experience, it was enjoyable and nice, albeit slightly overpriced for some dishes.

Boyfriend and I came in with a reservation for 10:45AM. There was a long line already so we had to wait a little to get checked in. I think the walk-in wait in that moment was an hour to an hour and a half but because we had a reservation, we were able to get seated pretty quickly. Service was good off the bat because everyone was very attentive. We ordered Shrimp & Kurobuta Pork Spicy Wontons, Kurobuta Pork Xiao Long Bao, Noodles with Spicy Sauce, and Chocolate & Mochi Xiao Long Bao. Our server let us know that our order was running a little late because the kitchen was very busy in that moment. It did take awhile for our food to come out but it did eventually. This was my first time trying Din Tai Fung so I had some expectations because of the hype but the food honestly didn't taste super exceptional. I don't know if it was the specific foods I ordered but today everything just tasted pretty mid honestly. Everything was just...okay. It was all a bit on the flavorless side... The chocolate mochi for dessert on the other hand was good, but it did get a little too much in terms of sweetness as I had my 3rd one. I think 1 is just enough for me. Again, service was good throughout because our server checked in on us often, we never ran out of water, and our plates were cleared away very quickly. Overall, not sure if I really liked my meal here today but I think I would still give Din Tai Fung another chance by coming back to order something else next time.

The staff here is absolutely excellent. They work well together, they’re kind, and extremely attentive. The atmosphere is beautiful and even though this location is busy I’ve never had to wait for too long to be seated and they also have open seating at the bar. The food is pretty good but for the price I will say I’ve had better. But as far as consistency and quality is concerned it is definitely worth a visit.

Extremely long wait , almost 2 hours. Very limited or no times for reservations. You have to only make reservations on line. The food was about average with some vegetarian options. The making of some of the dishes like dumplings by hand was fun to watch. Several of the vegetarian dishes had the same stuffing inside as if they could not find many vegetables. The soup that was supposed to come first came last and it was barely warm. You can only go here if you lots of time to wait and go thru double check in process.

We didn't expect the place to be so busy before we arrived. We waited 40 minutes to finally get in. When our turn came, there was no one to guide us downstairs. We had to ask to find out we needed to go to the front desk to get a number (because there was also a receptionist at the entrance). Downstairs, we discovered there were many waiting areas to rest, but the receptionist hadn't mentioned this at all. The ambiance was indeed nice, the decor was great, but when we sat down, we were shocked by the tableware. Both pairs of chopsticks were crooked. We called a server, and although the person wasn't specifically assigned to our table, she glanced at us and walked away, completely ignoring us. If you think American service is like this, then disregard what I said. Then we ordered sweet and sour pork ribs, which were like those food kept under a heat lamp all day in a buffet restaurant. The meat was dry and tough, and the sweet and sour flavors were completely separate. It arrived lukewarm, almost cold. We also ordered crab and pork soup dumplings, which had a noticeable fishy taste. We were very disappointed; soup dumplings are supposed to be their signature dish, right? We also ordered shrimp and pork steamed dumplings, which, unsurprisingly, were also fishy, and we didn't finish them. We also ordered dan dan noodles, the only decent dish; without it, we probably would have left hungry. The prices weren't expensive, but we wouldn't come again.

I genuinely don’t understand the hype around Din Tai Fung. We ordered a wide variety of dishes hoping to find the hype-worthy items, but honestly, only about 5% of what we tried was actually good. The majority of the food was underwhelming, lacking flavor, and not memorable at all—especially disappointing given the reputation and wait. The only real saving grace of the experience was: • The dessert, which was enjoyable and the best part of the meal • Our server Danny, who was refreshingly honest, funny, and made the experience more pleasant despite the food For the price point and expectations, this just didn’t deliver. I wanted to love it, but it felt overhyped and not worth the fuss. I wouldn’t rush back.

The staff at the front and the service around us were lovely. Had no problem until we got our waiter. He was nice and helpful and then he took our order. All was good! Then after the order was placed, never once did he bring me my drink. He forgot about it and didn't realize until he was going to hand us the receipt and took it off, which is why I never mentioned it because I never had the chance to grab him. He never once asked us how our food was. Food was cold. He never acknowledged us. People got sat next to us and he introduced himself and asked how the food was for them. Kept coming to both parties AROUND us. They all got their food before us. Just cause the people are white and look of money doesnt mean theyre the only ones who deserve any acknowledgement. Our waiters name was Brian. OTHER staff had to refill our water because not once did he care to look at us. Wish I had the guts to tip him nothing. But I am not cruel like him and many others. I've been to 5 din tai fungs. From California to New York. Each and every one of them know to greet, check on the customer, and ensure the food is good, and to be present. It was 11am. It was not busy. I know cause I was there. Do better. Teach your staff to be attentive. This is the WORST din tai fung I have ever been at and will never return to them. Because food service matters, regardless if we don't look rich enough to be helped. Class should not matter at a restaurant. Do better.
