Excellent all around! This is one of, if not the best, restaurant in Jax! I can't really think of a local, fine dining restaurant that is better. It is FINE DINING though so please keep that in mind. Our server Kay was great! She was knowledgeable, attentive but not too much. The bread service is a bit slow as others mentioned but it's because they bake it fresh. I'd rather wait for fresh bread to come out of the oven that bread that's been kept under warmers. The décor has an older feel but in a good way. Its classic and charming! Reminds me of old family-owned restaurants in Europe. Our food was delicious from beginning to end! I do wish they had more options for wine by the glass. I'm a white wine drinker and there aren't as many options as I'd like but I still was very happy. Fresh flowers at the table were a nice touch that not many establishments do anymore. As was placing the napkins in our lap! My husband got a classic cocktail and was pleasantly surprised at how strong it was. He didn't think for a wine restaurant it would be good lol. Dinner for us both was about $200. Our dessert was free since it was my birthday and we did get a bottle of wine. The menu is very reasonably priced for the quality. Definitely recommend!
Wonderful experience, the food, service and wine all outstanding! We where celebrating a good friends birthday and it couldn't have been better.
Lunch was superb. The wait staff was excellent as always and it was a pleasure to meet with my colleagues and dine in a peaceful environment. Thank you once again
Edited....One of the best filet minions I've had since living in Colorado. Service was great. I will be bring more people here! #keylimepiewasperfect. Update.. I didn't think anything of it until we got home and looked at our take home box. My husband and I both had the filet cooked med. (perfect) He ate a little less than half and I ate about 3/4. We put on one plate to have boxed up. Our server said she accidentally threw it away and they are making another 4 oz one. Should have been about 6oz...Well it was a little overcooked with nothing on top and about 2 oz. That was disappointing. We will still return, However I was looking forward to eating leftovers for lunch today. 😢
Wine Celler in San Marco Medium Rare Lamb Chops and flourless chocolate cake. YUM
Enjoyable evening. Good food. Excellent service. Nice wine selection, although significantly over priced.
Wonderful place, superb wine selection. Server Gary exceptional. Salmon perfect. Quiet for conversation.
This place is an experience worth trying twice. I'll certainly be back
This is one of my favorite places to eat when I'm in town. Wayne has taken care of me each time and he is amazing. He makes the experience even better. The food is exquisite.
I just want to state, 18% should be the normal grad. There's a thing called tip share that servers have to pay into. This place is meant to be a small "fine" dinning resturant so yes the bill will be high. So the people complaining, Go to a outback or Applebee's for that matter, and no I don't work here or know anyone from this place.
Good food and service. Even though I dined alone the waiters did not try and hurry me along. I was able to read my book and sip a cocktail before dinner.
Went there for a Christmas luncheon. Good menu choices, and very attentive service. Wine choices were excellent. Very nice fine dining event
Everything was so delicious and you can always find a wine on the menu to pair with any dish you order. We will definitely go back.
Great dinner very affordable AND delicious!!! Waiter NICK is a super waiter. Very attentive and kept the wine coming!. Approve of this restaurant downtown...
Nice atmosphere and good food. Nick was great to attending to us. We dine here for our anniversary every year. Thanks.
Excellent service and food was on point! I read the reviews prior to coming for my first time, I have to say I double tipped because our waiter was great! It clearly is marked in the menu that there is an 18% gratuity added, our waiter even underlined it on the receipt, that is a none issue! Again it was a great experience! Thank you!
A great little restaurant in the heart of the city with a lovely off the beaten path feel. The lunch there is great and dinner is a little on the pricey side. There are a good bit of seafood dishes and a few alternative choices. The rosemary fries are incredible and not to be missed.
Wanted somewhere nice to eat for new years eve and we definitely got it and wasn't disappointed! The service was fantastic, the food tasted great and can't wait to go back and try something different and the many wine choices. I love the history behind the place too.
One of my favorite restaurants in Jacksonville. My wife and I love going here for our special/celebratory dinners. Superb wine selection. Everything I've tried here has been outstanding. Great, evolving menu.
I only gave five stars because six was not an option. A truly decadent dining experience with consistent attention to quality and detail. Everything from the food to the staff to the atmosphere at the Wine Cellar is perfect. A great place to relax for a drink, lunch, dinner, and special occasions.
Valentines Day 2/14/13 was so amazing here. The food was excellent! Every bite was heavenly and the staff was amazing. Great service! If you want to splurge one good time on amazing dishes it would be here
Ambiance, wait staff, food, and wine were the awesome best. Our waiter was not pretentious and was friendly and funny! Mix in friends and family and you have the perfect ingredients for a unforgetful evening.
I took my wife here for a "Just because Date" and it was an awesome experience. Our server, Wayne, was excellent! The atmosphere was romantic and we have a great time. I highly recommend The Wine Cellar to couples looking for a romantic evening.
Been dining here for many years. Menu somewhat limited but have never been disappointed. Nice wine selection and excellent service. Great location for a quiet dinner.
The waiter was Gary who did a nice job of staying on top of things without being obtrusive. I had the signature crab and lobster bisque. It was good with a slight hit of back of the throat spicy, but just the right amount. Then the grouper was wonderful. Light and flakey. It melted in the mouth with a lightly done panko (or similar) crust. It was on a bed of their risotto of the day, which was heavenly. The asparagus was a little firm for my taste, but was ok. I matched it with a Pine Ridge Chenin blanc/viognier blend. Just the right amount of sweetness from the Chenin blanc with the minerality of the viognier. The key lime pie was excellent and tasted as if it had just a crumble of toasted coconut in the topping. Well done! My wife enjoyed her basil caesar salad. She had the scallop appetizer, which was the right amount of food for her and left her with enough room to share the dessert. I loved that several walls were completely covered by wine bottle corks. Fortuitous for us was that it was just across the street from our hotel which gave us a discount card when they learned we were going to the Wine Grill.
We had dinner for my Father’s Birthday. The food and service were excellent. Our waitress Diane was perfect. We will go again. Thank you
Always a great experience. It's a wonderful place for any special occasion, or just for a peaceful evening out. The food and service never disappoint. Definitely a favorite.
Excellent meal. The grouper was more than five star. The service was impeccable as usual. An intimate and cozy restaurant that you should never overlook.
Wonderful environment. Restaurant is quaint and has professional service. Pricey, but portions are decent and food is delicious. A fancy lunch or quiet dinner would be best here!
Excellent food and service. First time here - had the trio, the scallops were exceptional, the shrimp were good, the filet with bearnaise sauce was amazing.
I love the Wine Cellar. The food is always freshly made, the staff is friendly and remember you from previous visits and they make really great cocktails...not to mention the extensive wine list! Just a great little place! Thank you Wayne and the rest of the staff for always making it an enjoyable meal! (Whiskey Bundt Cake is my favorite and I don't think it is on the menu anymore but the asparagus w/smoked salmon, capers and chips was the best appetizer!)
We never miss an opportunity to dine here when we’re in the area. Excellent food, service, and a lovely, intimate atmosphere. Had lunch one day and went back for dinner the next night! The menu features lots of gluten free options and the kitchen is more than willing to make adjustments to accommodate food allergies.
The food was amazing. The atmosphere is very nice. The servers are very friendly and knowledgeable with the menu. I had the chicken picatta very delicious. Chicken nice and juicy with very good flavor. Wife got the lambchops those were delicious thought theyd be weird with the mint pesto but it's a very subtle hint of mint that added to its flavor.
New Year's Eve $60 price fixe would have been 5 stars but missed the mark on the over cooked lobster tail you couldn't get out of the shell, not just mine but my son's girl too, boo. Otherwise, a wonderful evening, thanks. Kevin always treats us like gold, thanks sweetie.
Wait staff is typically really good, but they were off their game a little bit yesterday. The guy who greeted me was definitely disinterested. Our waitress was pretty good though. I think they had several large Christmas parties going on that maybe spread them a little thin. I'll go back though.
Great place. Hidden gem? Shockingly not busy on a Saturday night. Diane, our server, was awesome. The lamb chops are amazing. Only 4 stars because they put chocolate syrup on the tiramisu. Don't know why. Try the baileys bundt for dessert!!!
Excellent service, wine menu should be much more and have some eclectic choices. It was interesting, very private for a resturant that size. Good menu
The food here is top notch, everything tasted great and the portions were well sized for how rich the food was. It was so uncomfortablely hot during our dinner though! We were dressed very lightly and I still came out of this restaurant with sweat marks on my back. Other patrons were fanning themselves with menus. Our poor waiter was absolutely dripping in sweat too. They need to turn up the AC! For a place called the Wine Cellar, their wine selection seemed a little slim too, especially for white wines. Also, most of the options you can only buy by the bottle, the by the glass selection is smaller.
Food was decent, not excellent. Ambiance was lacking; not many patrons.Perhaps this place was better in the past?? Check your receipt when you leave! 18% gratuity was already included on the bill (I was eating alone) and I didn't catch it. The server got 2 tips (unintended). I'm not happy with restaurants that automatically add tips...esp for one diner.
Nice environment. Great service. Food was just okay, especially for the price. Their key lime pie was the best part of the meal.18% gratuity was added to the bill.
Food was good but overpriced by about 20% when compared with similar restaurants. Service was ok but adding a fixed 18% to the bill and on top of that making you feel like an additional tip is expected is just unacceptable. Like some other reviewers I felt robbed and will certainly not go back.
The food and service was good but auto gratuity of 18% was added for party of 2, and this is not mentioned anywhere on the menu. Which is too bad because for fine dining I usually tip 20 to 25%.
Maybe it's because my wife and I look young, but the waiter seemed to brush us off and treat us like children. There is something like an 18% "Service Charge" on every bill, not just large parties. The food was about what I would except from a restaurant of this price range, but it did not blow my socks off. In the end, I would go there again if someone else wanted to go, but I wouldn't go out of my way.
Came in for our anniversary and nick was our service. Food was good. But honestly the service was underwhelming. We had to ask for a decanter for our wine before when poured the btl, no bread for at least the first 25 min of sitting there with drinks, and he knew absolutely nothing about the menu. We asked general questions about the dishes and he couldn’t suggest anything, describe anything, or answer any questions about them. All we got was a shrug. Honestly the 18% for service what I would have given regardless of the service. Normally We give 25% for regular service. For the price the table service needs a lot of work especially for special occasions. Extremely disappointed.
Went to this restaurant with family food presentation was OK and the food was very bland don't think I well every revist the Wine Cellar in Jacksonville again. Much better food available in the Jacksonville.
I visited this restaurant this week for lunch. The decor is very cozy. I ordered the salmon for lunch. After my 2nd bite I saw that a portion of my salmon was very rare. The waitress took it back to get me another one. When she brought it back I quickly realized they took my meat of my plate and recooked it. Sorry but I thought I was supposed to get a new meal. I couldn't eat the salmon or anything else after that. Management never came over to apologize. I will not revisit.
If I could give 0 I would! My husband and I went to the Wine Cellar for an anniversary meal, we had made a reservation when we got there we had to wait a further 30 minutes for a table. When seated our server took over food and drinks order and kept coming back to see if wanted more drinks, after waiting 30 minutes I asked the server about our order and she said she’d check. After another 10 minutes the food arrived. I ordered the Filet Mignon Champignons and I asked for it medium, it came our very well done, when I told the server that it was not as order we took it back to the kitchen for the Executive Chef Greg to come out with it. He threw the plate in front of me and said it was medium and that I should try it. Not wanting to cause a scene, I tried cutting it and it was leather, I said I can’t eat it that’s when this Greg guy starts yelling abuse at me, with many swear words! How unprofessional! As a lady, I’ve never been spoken to like before and spending over $150 on a meal… We left and this restaurant will be remembered for the wrong reasons, when a chef comes out and embarrasses a customer, this is totally unacceptable. Avoid this restaurant, the only thing fine about it, it leaving!
Experience was ruined by a server who STOLE a 40% tip. A older male with a beard and medium length hair was my server. Upon finishing my meal he brought a bill with a total and no itemized copy. I paid that bill and left him a 20% tip. He never told me that gratuity was included in my bill. He also mentioned that he had been a server there for years so I’m sure he knew a 40% tip was not standard! He knew exactly what he was doing. Never will I return to a place with such dishonest servers. Disappointed to say the least.
Use to love going there. Enjoyable atmosphere and good food. I almost got sick to my stomach when a person claiming to be a former employee told a group of us that he witnessed one of the cooks on more then one occasion itching his feet and then handling the food. I have never been in the kitchen and perhaps this former employee left on a bad note however food plus feet equals nearly vomiting and I have never been back.
We went to the Wine Cellar for the first time tonight and it WAS BAD!!!!!!! I found out about the Wine Cellar on Opentable and most of the reviews were four stars or better. One even said the best place in Jacksonville. After tonight I think that the person who wrote that is rather the owners mother or someone who don't know a thing about good food or service. So we get in and were seated quickly, Kay was our server I noticed that a water glass was missing, I did not say a word I wanted to see how Kay took care of it. Kay come out with the water and notice that a water glass was missing and grabs the glass from another table. Then she comes back with a plate of butter NO BREAD!!! So, again I wait and wait and wait the Kay shows back up with no bread so I ask her if we could get some bread to go with our plate of butter. She said "oh you need bread?". Then the first course comes out and it was wrong I got something I did not order. So, I told Kay about it and she fixed it. Then the main course comes out and the stakes that we asked to be cooked medium were cooked well done not to mention that they were the smallest and thinest pices of meat I had ever seen. We told Kay about this and she took the plates away and we were their in silence as our guest had their meal in front of them not knowing to eat or to talk or what to do. Kay came back with our meals. At the end when the bill came out Kay told us that she took off $10. of our $150 off because of the cook. Then I noticed the they have an 18% gratuity fixed in to the bill and then they ask you again for a tip. I left this place like I got robbed. Please don't go to this place. Jacksonville has much better place to eat that have their own parking lot. Yes, The Wine Cellar does not have parking you have to park at the bank next door. Again Please don't go to this place.
