We came here for a company dinner. And all the food was just as pretty as their IG channel (@juniperjc) and tasted absolutely delicious! The brussel sprouts should not be overlooked. I added them half-way through after tasting a sample from a friend at the table. No regrets! It was very cold the day we ate here and the front door chilled those of us seated towards the front. That was my only complaint. All that to say, make the reservation, dress up, have dinner and splurge on dessert, you won't regret it!
One of the best dining experience I've had in JC or anywhere. The food was incredible, as was the service. We shared the 50 oz T-Bone, and it was cooked and seasoned perfectly. We had the brussel sprouts, mushrooms, and augratin potatoes as well. Everything was perfect. It was pricey, but it was worth it. The desert was Chocolate Roulade and it was just as good as the meal. We we're celebrating the 44th anniversary of our first date, and they gave us complimentary champagne and an additional desert called French Madelines.
The best meal I’ve ever had. Highly recommend trying the A5 wagyu too. The service is always excellent, as well as the food. David is top notch. Thank you again for a wonderful evening.
Absolutely the best meal I've had in the Tri-Cities. It's on the expensive end for the area, but absolutely worth the price. We went for our anniversary, and the whole staff made the evening special. Our server, William, was absolutely fantastic. The wagyu steak was cooked to perfection, and practically melted in your mouth. Everything was fantastic, and we'll definitely be back!
This was easily one of my top dining experiences in my life. After moving to East Tennessee from Orange County, California, I am pleasantly surprised by Juniper's dining quality and service. This is probably the best fine dining establishment in the area. We had a table of four and sampled each other's food, ranging from small plate appetizers, to full entrees, and a couple desserts. I was able to try about fifteen different menu items, and every single one was a hit. In particular, the duck breast with confit leg and bacon wrapped pork tenderloin (pictured) were absolutely incredible dishes, both in presentation and flavor. The sorghum pear chocolate bar and fig tart desserts (pictured) were decadent, creative, and just a pleasant way to cap off our meal. We ordered three of the five cocktails off the menu, all of which were well balanced and delicious. My only feedback is there were only five cocktails total on the menu, I would have loved maybe a couple additional choices to sample. As someone who enjoys spirit-forward drinks, I likely would have ordered another cocktail had there been another option I was interested in. However, I have to say the one cocktail I did have was excellent (pictured.) We had a table of four and were served by Josh, who did an amazing job taking care of us! We felt welcomed, comfortable, and never wanted for anything: Josh had the perfect level of personality and interaction with us, always made sure we had drinks and offered to bring us anything we needed, while maintaining that great balance of not being intrusive. I cannot express how happy we were with the service, it was perfect in every way. I cannot wait to visit Juniper again when their seasonal menu changes. Juniper is an absolute must-visit in Tri-Cities.
We went to dinner here, for the first time, to celebrate my birthday. The food was beautiful and satisfying, the service was warm and inviting, and the special touch for my birthday was thoughtful. We will definitely return. My only concern was the noise level got a little elevated during the busy time because of where we were seated. Our favorite dishes were the French Onion Soup and the Creme Brule. Divine.
Incredible food and service. We like the T bone with au gratin potatoes and brussel sprouts. The cocktails are also fantastic!
My wife and I had an excellent anniversary meal at Juniper. Everything from making the reservations to dessert was wonderful. Our server, Josh, guided our first time at Juniper to be a memorable one. Every plate was one of the best of that thing that we had had. Some of the notable dishes were the oyster, short rib pasta, brussel spouts, and T-Bone special w/sauces. We will be back for special occasions and more casual snack/small plates with drinks. This is not your typical Johnson City restaurant, and it’s a gem for our area. Highly recommended.
Hands down one of the best restaurants in the JC and surrounding area!! Everything about our experience was phenomenal, and our waitress I believe Taylor, made it even more special. She was so genuine and progressional, and had the best recommendations! From placing our reservation to signing the bill, it was flawless! All of us got a variety of food and our mom for her birthday, got the filet, and each dish was beyond flavorful and the portions were perfect! The desserts were done beautifully, and my mom got her own birthday dessert plate which she absolutely loved! They even had a sweet basil icecream which is to die for! If I could eat that as my meal, I would have, haha! There were absolutely no complaints whatsoever, and I would love to come back for lunch one day!! It sounds like it’s placed near a creek, and it’s in a very calm and more secluded environment, which I’m sure makes for a great lunch experience! We can’t wait to be back!!
This place is special! This place is spectacular! If you really know food, you will definitely appreciate this unique and outstanding establishment. The ambience is just as perfect as the menu and food. And the service is exceptional This is now my new go to in Johnson City.! I wish there was one of these in every town. I traveled too!
I've been to Juniper twice and had the same server both times. Each time, I was unsure what to order. The first time, I had milk poached halibut over butternut squash risotto. I thought I didn't like butternut squash. I scraped the plate clean. The second time, I ordered the salmon with creamed cabbage, candied bacon, and roasted potatoes. I don't like potatoes that much, but the first bite cabbage, bacon, and potato all together was nearly a religious experience. The cocktails are unique and delicious. The menu of cocktails, appetizers, and composed dishes rotates seasonally, but the main grilled meats remain the same, or at least largely so. The service is exceptional. Attentive and friendly enough to provide a fantastic experience, but not smothering or distracting.
Quick! Someone call Gordon Ramsay or Martha Stewart! Juniper needs to viral!!Truly the best experience I've ever had and the food is a work of art and if you haven't experienced Juniper, you are really missing out!! You won't experience anything else like it in Johnson City or anywhere else in the surrounding areas. I've been cleaning juniper for months now and I finally got the opportunity to experience the food and atmosphere when they in full swing and boy I was blown away! They deserve 10 stars in my book, not only for the atmosphere, the food, the service, and the cleanliness but the for kind of people they are, they truly deserve all the success in the world. Every dish we ordered was exquisite! Our sever, Mickey was very kind and knowledgeable about the menu and the ingredients that we were unsure about and had made our our experience more pleasurable The chicken pot pie croquettes, wood smoked oysters, au gratin potatoes, grilled jumbo asparagus, and the Snake River Wagyu filet was mouthwatering and cooked to perfection! And let's not forget about the dessert! The hummingbird cake was out of this world... yummy 😋 We will definitely be going back!
I really liked the place and there food. We had a tuna appetizer which was good and fresh. It needed a bit more dressing. I got the steak frites which were the best I have had in JC. Totally recommend them. My husband took the salmon he really liked it. And he said he’d order it again.
Excellent! Wonderful experience from start to finish. Our server was great. We had the salmon and the steak frites to eat, along with the chicken croquettes, Caesar salad, and sundae. A mocktail and coffee were also delicious. Would recommend as the best place in the area to celebrate a special occasion.
If your favorite place to eat and the BEST place you’ve ever ate, met and had a baby… juniper is what you would get. The menu is not too big which, inevitably has forced me to try as much of it as possible. As mad as that makes me, I can truly say this place has the best food in the area. Oh, If you want your significant other to love you even more, take them here, they won’t be hungry no mo
Best steak i've ever had in my life, skip all the other fast foods steak joints, splurge and go to Juniper( new beginnings) for the best steak you'll ever have in Tennessee! Try any cut, I recommend all of them!
Our absolute favorite place to eat! When we can, we try to go every other month. The service is wonderful, the food is delicious, and they treat everyone so well. This is the highest quality food you can find in the Tri Cities area, and the cocktails are great as well!
Perfect pace for meals - tasting menu had great choices, good portion sizes Waitress: Whitney- attentive, quick, knowledgeable Pot Pie Croquettes (10/10)- perfectly crisp, easy to cut in half, perfect internal temperature Gnuddi (10/10)- bolognese was spiced perfectly, whipped goat/ricotta cheese added nice texture and paired well with the flavors of meet, perfect crispy contrast with bread crumbs Beet Salad (7/10)- lacked acidity due to orange substitute instead of blood orange; added lemon/ lime juice and that brought it up to a 10/10, pistachios were a good nut choice for crunch Wagyu Steak (9/10)- cooked beautifully, tender, and able to cut with a butter knife Scallops and Risotto (10/10)- sweet scallops, perfectly cooked, creamy risotto, chive oil and spinach were tasty and were perfect compliments Au Gratin Potatoes (10/10)- creamy, perfectly salted, tender, but still firm Coconut Cake (9/10) - great way to end our meal, moist, not too sweet Bathroom was clean as well, charming exterior, nice and quaint atmosphere
Close friends whispered to us Juniper is open and it is by far the best restaurant in Johnson City. Don't tell anybody it is already crazy to get a reservation. With babbling brook outside and cozy rooms inside this Cottage restaurant blows everywhere else away. Just three weeks after opening the fine food was near perfect. We started with the finest French Onion Soup you have ever tasted. Featuring five types of onions, sherry, and cave aged gruyere. The first course rocketed to the top of our list. Our next course Fried Green Tomato and Burrata was delayed arriving after the entree. Maybe it was the timing but this was the weak course and while it would be exceptional any place else we will probably skip it in favor of other delicacies in the future. The entrees melted in our mouths. I had the Cured Bacon Wrapped Pork Tenderloin and my wife enjoyed the Brasstown Beef Bavette "Steak Frites." My wife shared bite and we couldn't decide what was finer. I voted for the Tenderloin. We enjoyed a bottle of Les Cote Syrah which was fine with an amazing bouquet. After a near perfect meal we were pleasantly full but they had saved the best for last. Celia's Fig Tart was the most heavenly thing to pass through our lips. Mattie and Celia McGhee along with their team have achieved perfection. We will be back and hope that Adam will serve us to perfection again. Please don't tell anyone about Juniper or we will never get a reservation again for the finest food we can remember.
We made reservations at Juniper for our wedding anniversary, no issues getting a table. Follow up text and e-mail reminders/conformations were helpful. We were greeted warmly at the entrance and taken to our table quickly- hostess made pleasant conversation on the way up. The server in our section was with a table when we walked in, so another server got us drinks quickly. Josh was our server, and he was very polite, well dressed and groomed, and knowledgeable about the menu- his service was extremely professional and he worked with experienced efficiency . We were provided with a complementary glass of champagne for our anniversary, and the dessert tray was artfully garnished. Very personal touches to make our evening more than pleasant. The food was fantastic- it was my first dry aged steak, possibly the best steak I've had in America. My wife's filet was also fantastic. Appetizers and sides were also wonderfully prepared and portioned. Dessert was quite impressive as well- to say were completely satisfied does not adequately express our experience. We'll be back for sure.
What an absolutely exquisite dining experience! I never give reviews but this was so special that I had to. I went here with my parents for a special celebration and the chef and staff did not disappoint! The lamb chops and duck were mouthwatering (as were our appetizers and dessert) and the cocktails were high end, original, and delicious. Josh, our waiter, was professional and engaging. Overall, a top notch experience and worth every penny…and then some.
This was our first time. We arrived much earlier than our reservation and was still promptly seated. Had several of the menu options, no complaints about any of them. Really enjoyed the environment, which was a suspect considering how close tables were. However, it wasn't loud even though the room was full. While we enjoyed our meal and overall our waitress was great my only complaint would be for the spill about how things are prepared/specails/etc be shorter. We mentioned being ready and knowing what we wanted yet she kept telling us about the special offerings. Again not a major deal but just a bit of feedback.
Delicious food, super cute house style building, not a stuffy atmosphere even though the food is pricey. Got the salmon and fried chicken. Both were SO good!! Chicken pot pie croquettes were tasty! Brussels were deeelicious!! Only 2 "meh" things were the side of fries, and the biscuits that came w the chicken. Fries had no seasoning and biscuits had no flavor and were dry.
An absolute gem in East Tennessee. Great spot for a celebration or date night. Fried green tomatoes, beet salad, and croquettes to start. Should have ordered a second round of the croquettes! All proteins were cooked beautifully but the poached halibut was the showstopper. There wasn’t a bland or boring dish all night. Finished it off with basically every dessert on the menu. Each of us had different favorites but the peanut butter cookie has been on my mind for days. The perfect late night bite or end to a (very) full dinner.
This is a lengthy review, so I’ve included a summary right here at the top. Juniper is a newer restaurant in the Tri-Cities. They have absolutely delicious offerings served in a homey modern farmhouse setting. Make a reservation and plan to visit again, as the menu changes regularly. The food is excellent, with standout dishes including the Chicken Pot Pie Croquettes and the Buttermilk Fried Chicken. We will definitely be back. From the outside Juniper is an unassuming farmhouse. The style is modern and cohesive. Neither the lower or upper dining rooms are very large, but there was plenty of space for each table and we didn’t feel cramped at all. The dining room upstairs was dimly lit. Maybe not so dark that a flashlight is necessary for the menu, but it did seem a bit dark. This may have been accentuated by each room-filling shine of light when the door was opened. A wattage check may be in order to balance the two spaces. We started with the Chicken Pot Pie Croquettes and the Focaccia. We were served a plate of five croquettes, each about the size of a small hush puppy. The outside was golden, crisp and adequately held in the warm filling. This was a great tasting appetizer, it isn’t to fill up on, just to have a great taste. The focaccia was absolutely the tallest focaccia I’ve ever seen. I normally see focaccia as a throwaway, it’s a dipping bread or should be topped with something; not this one. The top was crisp and flakey while all three inches on the inside were soft and flavorful. It’s served as four pieces with a simple butter, perfect for our table of four. We also ordered the Fried Green Tomatoes and Burrata. It was very good, but next time we will be more adventurous and resist the urge to return to this familiar dish. We each ordered an entree and a handful of sides to share. The Buttermilk Fried Chicken seemed like a dish that would fall in the same familiar territory as the Fried Green Tomatoes. Don’t be mislead; it is special. We thought it was interesting to choose a cut as lean as the breast for a hearty fried chicken. This fried chicken puts all those concerns to rest. The crisp, well-seasoned, breading keeps the chicken itself buttery and tender. The dish is served with a biscuit, hot sauce, and the smallest honey bear ever made. We wish the biscuit had come hot to melt the butter it’s served with. Our table also had the Wood Grilled Salmon and an off-menu halibut special. Both received high praise and were enjoyed. I ordered the Brasstown Filet from the Heath Grilled Meats section. These come with no sides but are served with your choice of sauce and fried onions. It was well seasoned and cooked to order. This ranked as the best filet I’ve had the pleasure of eating. No disappointments here steering away from my usual ribeye. We ordered a few sides: Brussel Sprouts, Au Gratin Potatoes, and Blistered Shishito Peppers. All the sides were good. The brussel sprouts are sweet with a heavy char to balance. They eat more like a jam rather than individual sprouts. The sides are big enough to share with 2-3 people. Front-of-house manager, Brent, checked in on our meal. He was polite, solicited feedback, and didn’t rush his time with us. He encouraged us to order dessert and explained it was where they shined at Juniper. We ordered: Pear Crème Brûlée, Grand Marnier Soufflé, and Chocolate & Coffee Roulade. All the desserts were good, but the Coffee & Chocolate Roulade though came as a buffet of desserts. The whole plate was a pastry flex. Meringues, macaroon, candied hazelnuts, homemade ice cream, it was all impressive; even the little candle holder was thoughtful and delicious. Coffee flavor was present throughout each element but it was never bitter or overpowering. We thanked Brent on the way out; his poignant review of the Chocolate & Coffee Roulade was tops: "I'm not really a huge fan of coffee...I ate the whole thing." He was absolutely correct about the desserts, it is where they shine. All in, we had a great experience and delicious food. We will be back to try more.
We finally got around to trying Juniper and as we expected, it was very good. They did a great job remodeling the old house to turn it into this beautiful little restaurant. Very good, well prepared dishes with the exception of one item. The fave of the night was actually an appetizer, the chicken pot pie croquettes. Also, excellent service. If you are looking for something out of the ordinary in this area, this is the place.
The food at Juniper will have you tasting everything the Master Chef cooking show was all about! Delicious, fresh, high quality ingredient food!! The prices are affordable for the quality and quantity of food you get!! Our meal was delicious from start to finish and we had no leftovers! The service staff are amazing as well!!
Excellent meal! 10/10 would recommend the scallops with mushroom truffle risotto. Best I’ve ever had. Fantastic menu with great pairings. Mickey was our server who gave great recommendations and timely service! She made the experience exceptional. Such a sweet atmosphere for a romantic date night!
I had an amazing experience sitting at the bar here! The bartender, whose name I’m unfortunately forgetting but I know it started with an "R," was fantastic. The cocktail was expertly crafted, and the service was top-notch. The food was absolutely incredible – beautifully presented with perfectly balanced flavors. I’ll be back in a few weeks for business, and I’ll definitely be returning to this place. It was truly one of the best meals I’ve had in a long time! I also took the lemon meringue to go, and it completely blew me away.
Update: We just ate here again and it continues to exceed expectations! The 50 oz. T-Bone for two is an absolute masterclass in the execution of a perfect T-Bone! The aromas, the textures, the flavor, the cook on the meat, they were all literally as perfect as one could possibly dream of! I am officially ruined from enjoying this particular cut of steak anywhere else because it'll never measure up to the standard set by Juniper. Many many thanks! We had high expectations going in based on the multiple recommendations from various friends, and our expectations were met and exceeded! Everything from the service to the cleanliness to the food was as good as or better than we could possibly have expected!
An absolute great place to eat. My wife and I ate there and sat at the bar and the two bartenders William and Mack were amazing. Such friendly staff and the food was insanely good. We ate at Ruth's Chris Steakhouse earlier this year and the food at Juniper was far better in our opinion. We had the Brasstown Beef Filet Mignon and Snake River Farms Denver Steak for the main course and the Mafalde, Bone Marrow and fries as an appetizer and the Yule Log and Madeleines for desert with a Margarita and a Silk Wanda. Would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for great food, drinks and a great atmosphere.
Are you looking for a true culinary masterpiece? From the moment you walk into Juniper you know you are in the right place. You'll discover an atmosphere of refined elegance, with impeccable service. The star of the show, of course, is the steak - cooked to absolute perfection, and bursting with flavor. We opted for the filet mignon, with brussel sprouts, au gratin potatoes and I had to try the seasoned fries and french onion soup. Fantastic 💯 If you're searching for a truly exceptional steakhouse experience, then this is it. And don't forget the coconut cake, wow, it will make you slap your grandma, because she never made anything that good. John Hames
This place is amazing! Make sure to make a reservation. The service is top notch and the food is incredible. Everything we had was delicious. There is an amazing vegetarian dish called the yellow curry. Im not even vegetarian and I loved it. Don’t miss the yellow curry!
My mother and I dined at Juniper for the first time and it was excellent. I ordered the duck breast and she ordered the scallops. Very good and both so tender. I loved how they kept the integrity of the meat by not over seasoning it. Olivia was our waitress and she was wonderful. She always checked on us at appropriate times and explained everything on the menu so specifically. I was quite nervous because I brought my daughter who just turned 1 today and the atmosphere made her feel comfortable and she had a great time! Thank you and will be recommending it to my friends. Will be coming back again soon! Focaccia appetizer, two alcoholic beverages, scallops, duck breast, flourless chocolate cake, madelines and an amazing waitress for $129.00 it was so worth it.
Quite possibly the best restaurant in Johnson City. The experience and service were excellent! The food is on another level. Everything has been thought through, they’re consistent and intentional with all of it. Our steaks were cooked and seasoned perfectly. The sides were delicious and the dessert was perfect. I wish I could give it 6 stars!
Best water in JC, best food in JC, best drinks in JC. They have free 7-filtered water and sparkling water that tastes like Angel tears and holy water. The steak is all farm raised and high grade cuts, however, we decided to try the Black Hawk farms Wagyu, and it was very good. The chefs even treated us to a delicious beef tartare, unlike anything else you will try in Johnson City, maybe even all of East Tennessee. Finally, Cory and Mack are currently running the bar and are doing a phenomenal job busting those delicious drinks out while still managing to keep conversation with me and my girlfriend. All of them are very knowledgable in pairings, and the all the drinks we got really helped highlight the food! All that said make sure you go out and try Juniper, and don't be afraid to ask your server questions, they know way more about the food and drinks then you would expect from any other Tri-Cities restaurant and that is awesome! (We were too busy eating some of the food we mentioned that we forgot to get the photos!)
Wow. Seriously, wow. We booked reservations 3 weeks in advance for our anniversary. From the moment we walked in until the moment we left - we were showered with spectacular service. We ordered the 50oz T-bone to share, pork belly, sautéed mushrooms, potato au gratin, espresso martinis and dessert. Everything was phenomenal, cooked to perfection. The ambiance was intimate and beautiful. Not only was the food exceptional, the service was too. Our waiter was phenomenal - friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. One of the best parts? The house provided a free toast of champagne and bonus dessert in recognition of our anniversary. Literally blown away by the entire experience - bravo, well done, we will be back.
One of the best dining experiences I’ve ever had. The menu selection was outstanding. Each dish was creatively paired and unique. My girlfriend and I shared the T-Bone for 2, which was perfectly cooked, and tasted amazing. The pork belly dish, scalloped potatoes, and asparagus were each the best I’ve ever had. The drinks were great and our server Sarah, made the experience even better. I can’t wait to go back.
Impeccable service, amazing food and vibe. The duck was perfect and the halibut was buttery. Save room for dessert it can’t be missed, all made in house, checkout the sundae. A lot going on and it all blends beautifully. The husband and wife team that owns and runs this place know what they’re doing and I hope they continue on with this gem of a place. We will return very soon, cheers!
Our dining experience at Juniper exceeded all expectations, making it the best we've had in a long time, if not ever. From the inviting atmosphere to delectable appetizers, main courses, and divine desserts, every aspect was impeccable. A special shout-out to David, our waiter, who showcased unparalleled knowledge, precision, and a delightful sense of humor. His recommendations were spot-on, and his timing was perfect. That man is going places! The entire staff's calm and relaxed composure hinted at a healthy work environment. The Caesar salad and French onion soup were just as David said scientifically perfect, the tomahawk steak and sides were phenomenal, and the desserts were unparalleled. Juniper has brought culinary genius to our city, and we're grateful for this outstanding addition. Great job, Juniper!
We went there for our first wedding anniversary as well as my husband's birthday. From the minute e we got there till we left, the experience was exceptional. Corey, our server was very knowledgeable and a gem. Started with focaccia and a Complinary champagne toast. We shared the 50 Oz T-bone steak that was cooked to perfection. we also had the Brussel sprouts and potatoes 2 way. I enjoyed the espresso martini, and my husband had the clock burnt orange cocktail. They both were amazing. We were even given an extra dessert to celebrate 🍾 our anniversary. Well worth every penny. I'm looking forward to coming back and trying something else.
We’ve been here quite a few times before, but this time for our anniversary, and everything was stellar as usual! They started us out with glasses of champagne. We then split the T-Bone, oysters, little gem Caesar, and finished with a special anniversary dessert. We’ve enjoyed it every single time we’ve been here. Don’t wait to book your reservation, they’ll be booked up before you know it!
Eating at Juniper is more than just a meal, it is a full sensory experience. Absolutely the best restaurant in the area, the staff was incredible, friendly, knowledgeable, and welcoming. Highly recommend going, and request Whitney if you are able to; she was the finest, friendliest wait staff I've had the pleasure of interacting with. I've worked in restaurants, and can confidently say that this place is special. Worth every penny and unlike any other, Juniper exceeded every expectation.
The food and service is as good as any high end establishment I've had while on vacations, etc. The best part is, it's right here in town and I'm already looking forward to going back. We went a celebrated our anniversary and got a complimentary glass of wine and dessert which was above and beyond.
One of the best restaurants from Roanoke to Knoxville. Simple but elevated food. Tons of flavor with a wide variety. I look forward to making the hour drive here a few times a year for an amazing experience. The staff and kitchen are top notch.
Juniper offered an excellent elevated dining experience to our group of six. Our server was cordial and quite entertaining all the while offering plenty of recommendations on food and drink pairings. We'll definitely stop in, again, on a future trip to JC. The food was served and presented with care and equally delicious.
The food and the service were exceptional. We waited 2 to 3 minutes for our table our waitress Whitney was fantastic. The filet mignon and the ribeye were outstanding. The potatoes are rotten and brussels sprouts were delicious. The restaurant is very pretty inside, had a little retro feel to it. We're only sorry we were too full to have dessert because the dessert menu looked delicious. Highly recommend Juniper to anyone visiting or living in Johnson City.
The food at Juniper was absolutely amazing. Best meal I have had in a very long time. I got the duck breast and my husband ordered the fried chicken. The duck was melt-in-your-mouth delicious and perfectly seasoned. But I was absolutely blown away by their fried chicken. It was the best fried chicken I've ever had in my life: perfectly juicy and tender inside, extremely crunchy/crispy on the outside, just the right amount of spice, and the house-made hot sauce was so good I am still dreaming of it. I wish they'd bottle it and sell it. I can't recommend Juniper highly enough, and I can't wait to go again on our next trip to JC!
We had a fantastic evening! We enjoyed chicken pot pie croquettes fried chicken with fresh biscuits and honey, filet mignon medium, pork tenderloin, brussel sprouts, au gratin potatoes, steak fries, and the salted caramel sundaes! The food was amazing and the waitress was so professional, attentive, and explained the menu like a storyteller! She was amazing! Best part of the night was when the pasty chef hand delivered our sundaes and made us special lemon cakes covered in powdered sugar to celebrate my son in law’s graduation! I recommend Juniper for special occasions and a great place to eat! It’s kid friendly and has a great kids menu. My son had the chicken tenders and steak fries!
My husband and I dined at Juniper for the first time and the food and service were exceptional. Our server, David, was knowledgeable about the food and wine, explained the options in detail, and made excellent recommendations. Wait staff can either enhance the dining experience or take away from it, and David definitely enhanced it. We both had the duck and David recommended the squash side to complement the entree. We were not disappointed. The wine selections of Carménère for myself and French Pinot Noir for myself were delicious. We were undecided about dessert and David recommended the cherry pistachio vacherin. This dessert was unique with a remarkable taste. We will definitely be back because there are so many items on the menu we want to try.
If you are looking for a fine dining experience that truly lives up to the name, you’ve found it! I am a big foodie, and I have been let down by a lot of restaurants from here to Charleston that claim to provide an elevated dining experience. Juniper lives up to that claim at every angle. The moment you walk inside, the design has been very thoughtfully pieced together. Though you can tell they have worked to fill the room with tables, each one has been carefully spaced so you don’t feel like you are on top of other diners. The digital artwork reflected season for the time of year. The music was at an audible level but not too loud, and there were tasteful sound muffling boards hung in certain places which helped us to hear one another at our table, despite the restaurant being at capacity. I especially appreciated these “small” details as I am very hard of hearing when in crowded places. The candle at the table was artificial so we could easily move it aside to make room for our dishes, and we had a carafe of water to refill our glasses at our convenience – which my husband very much appreciated. Our server, Rachel, was very attentive without hovering too much, was able to recite their specials for the evening with prices, and provided some excellent recommendations for our meal! She as well as the gentleman who brought our dishes were visibly excited to discuss the selections and get our feedback on them. Which brings me to the food! Never have I eaten anywhere that shows such astounding consideration for the ingredients. I was completely blown away, and nearly brought to tears. We ordered the Wood-Roasted Oysters, which were a perfect balance of salt, fat, acid and heat and left us wanting more. I had the duck breast, which I had never had before. The skin was so perfectly crispy it was almost like bacon, and the balsamic reduction went beautifully with it. It came with root vegetables and lentils– which I am normally not a huge fan of, as they are often very bland– but these were thoroughly, and pleasantly seasoned. I believe I tasted cinnamon, which was another new experience for me, but absolutely delicious. My husband had the wagyu denver steak which he very much enjoyed, as well as au gratin potatoes. The potatoes are what got me so emotional. The depth of flavor that those perfectly tender potatoes had was unreal. That is flavor that takes time and passion. It is rare to get to experience the passion that we see in so many food television shows. What an honor and privilege to be able to taste it. I am genuinely so glad to have eaten here, and though I suspect it was a typical visit for the folks who work here, it meant the world to me to be able to experience genuine passion and love on my plate. Thank you!
The food was incredible!!! My husband ordered a filet and I ordered the scallops.. some of the best scallops I've ever had. My husband was beyond thrilled with his steak. The bread and pot pie croquette appetizers were also amazing. We finished with the coconut cake and espresso and they even gave us an anniversary dessert, all were fantastic. Our server Olivia was just beyond wonderful. I'm so happy we finally came and can't wait to come back soon. 😊
We go every year for our anniversary so the past four years we’ve been in JC. We always do the steak and share it on our anniversary dinner but everything we’ve ever had on the menu is fantastic. And the Brussels. Whoa. I’d go just for those. But it’s more than an anniversary place. We love taking friends and family from out of town. I hate to use the word surprised, but it feels like that’s the look I see on their faces when they try the food here. So good. Amazing to have a place of this caliber in Johnson City. Our favorite nice restaurant in town.
This is an upscale restaurant with impeccable service and delicious meals! Be sure to ask about the off menu offerings. The meals are prepared with the highest quality ingredients and the chef is very creative. The steak Frites with mushrooms is amazing. The venison tenderloin with Brussel sprouts is delicious. Save room for the hot chocolate chip cookies with ice cream.
Had an awesome evening catching up with my old friend Dennis, who flew in from Seattle. Since he’s used to some of the best restaurants out there, I wanted to show him what the Tri-Cities has to offer. Naturally, we ended up at Juniper, big thanks to my Masonic brother Hanes Miller for the perfect recommendation (even more special since it’s his niece’s restaurant!). Juniper is tucked inside a beautifully restored old mill, and the whole place has a relaxed yet refined vibe. Every detail, from the space to the flavors, feels carefully thought out. We started with the special octopus dish, an award-winning creation by the chef. It was amazing. Dennis ordered the Charred Duroc Pork Tenderloin, which came with buttermilk whipped potatoes, country green beans, apple mostarda, and a cornbread crumble. He said every bite was a hit. I went with the Japanese A5 Wagyu, and it absolutely lived up to the hype, rich, tender, and full of flavor. We also tried the lobster mashed potatoes… and wow. Creamy, decadent, with generous chunks of lobster throughout. Just an unforgettable side dish. The staff brought it all together, knowledgeable and easygoing, they shared the story behind each dish in a way that made everything feel more connected. Great food, great conversation, and a place that truly represents the best of what our area has to offer.
Dined at the bar and was not disappointed! the Service, Mack and Corey, are stellar, everything was spectacular from start to finish! The cocktails are a MUST, the French Onion Soup is a MUST, the Wood Grilled Salmon is to live for and the Coconut Layer Cake will leave you spinning in the best way possible. Dine here, any way you can get it? the bar or a table, but reservations are a MUST; you will be blown away at every part.
I try to be straightforward with my reviews and write them if they are good or bad. This one is 5-stars all across! The service and atmosphere when we walked in the door was warm and welcoming. We had a reservation and were quickly seated. We went in with highly positive recommendations from friends on the Focassia Bread, Duroc Pork Tenderloin, and Brasstown Beef Babette “Steak Frites”. All were cooked to perfection and the taste was amazing! Lydia, our server, was perfect. She had all the off-menu specials and knowledge of the regular menu with recommendations on a wine pairing for my wife. Lydia was attentive but not hovering; great personality with a friendly smile. Dessert was the Hummingbird Cake and a Pineapple Sorbet. Again, excellent! My wife had told them we were celebrating my birthday and they were quick to say they wouldn’t sing (thank goodness)! This was our first meal there but definitely not our last! Right now, if you don’t know the area, they can be a little tricky to find due to road construction. Just look for the Juniper Logo signs.
Hubby brought me on my birthday and we both had a Japanese A5 Wagyu Steak, chicken pot pie croquettes, asparagus with barnaise sauce, lobster mashed potato & three kinds of dessert. We are foodie people and we have high regards on good and quality food. You could get a fine dining experience at Juniper, and the attention to details for everyrhing is exemplary, with excellent good service especially our server named Whitney she is knowledgeable with everything & I asked for a sweet cocktail drink and I had what she recommended. Very good! A lot of options & I like the fact they have off menu dishes & specials. We were surprised when we were there, there was a Japanese Wagyu steak on the menu but it's not listed on their website.😍 Yes it is pricey but for us it's worth it. Reservation is recommended and we would dedinitely come back. Five star!
Im pretty frugal so we only go out to pricey restauraunts on special occasions and good value for what im paying is very important to me and im usually dissapointed but juniper hit every nail on the head. Food was perfect and flavorful, good portion sizes, Awesome in house desserts for great prices and they gave us a complimentary dessert addition for my fiances birthday.
We celebrated our anniversary and an important career milestone last night. Mara was our server and she was wonderful. She was very informative on the menu items and very prompt in making sure we had everything we needed. The food was phenomenal! I had the steak frites and it was delicious. My husband got the scallops and risotto… his scallops were like butter! He was able to cut them with his fork. I would highly recommend Juniper and we will definitely be back!
Visited with a coworker during a business trip to the Tri-Cities. Juniper was recommended a few times, so we made a reservation (definitely make a reservation) for dinner. We booked seats at the bar which ended up being a great choice. We got to talk to our server a lot by sitting at the bar, and she was really kind and super helpful. Everything we tried was absolutely excellent. The atmosphere is very laid back but not too informal. Food options all looked fantastic and some of the off menu items sounded very good. Great recommendation and I’ll definitely be back.
Absolutely blown away by our experience at Juniper. Our server, Joey, was fantastic. He did an excellent job explaining the menu and going over the specials. The food was delicious and definitely the best tasting in Johnson City. Only suggestion, add those coffee beans to the espresso martini! ;)
Such a cute and vibey place. I had their take on an old fashioned and my partner had a mocktail. Both beverages were delicious and well crafted. We tried their focaccia bread with the fennel pollen whipped butter that was also delicious. I am vegetarian and they offered to make some sides and starters vegetarian friendly. I tried their yellow curry tempeh and it was so good! The umami flavor was there and the spice level was perfect. I will definitely love to go back and try more things when I am back in the area.
We went to Juniper tonight! It's something we rarely get to do and we love it so so much! We had cocktails and mock tails. I had the boy orange and the slow blink, and my wife had the thing two. We started with the focaccia bread. My wife had the cheese plate with walnut cranberry bread, a combined goat, milk, and cow cheese and peach, chutney and caramelized, cumin pecan it was amazing. Next came the French onion soup, which was some of the best I've ever had and my wife had the beat and goat cheese salad with pistachio and mandarin orange. I had the sea scallops with mushroom risotto and fried leeks, and next the duck with a smoked lentil and mixed root vegetable balsamic glaze and carrot purée. Mashed potatoes were the best we’ve ever and they poached a lobster tail in butter and put it on top. It was phenomenal! Possibly one of the greatest things I've ever eaten for dessert. The strawberry cheesecake sundae and the blood orange sorbet. It was absolutely a dream.
So me and the girlfriend came here for our 4 year anniversary and I could not ask for a better place! They take reservation and we were able to put the reason for coming out and they definitely made it very special for us. As we walked in, it had the absolute perfect mood lighting for a calm dinner and the host(s) wished us a happy anniversary. The waitress we had was very insightful for the courses and the food recommendations. They brought us a free champagne-like drink (we weren't drinking alcohol). The food was absolutely cooked very well, I can not recommend the focaccia bread enough. Everything from the appetizer to the meal was prepared perfectly and cooked to order, moving into dessert, the owners even gave us a dessert to help finish off the anniversary dinner! I 100% recommend this place especially if you are celebrating something!
Our waiter, Corey, was amazing! He was very knowledgeable about the menu and had perfect timing when checking on us. He even said that if you don’t like something, try it here, you’ll change your mind, and I completely agree. I typically don’t like tomatoes or mushrooms, but both dishes were incredible. We’ve already recommended this place to others and can’t wait to come back as soon as possible.
Immaculate food and vibes. Our server was so helpful in describing different menu items and giving suggestions. Truly unique and delicious food. The best steak I have ever had, and it was venison! The potato mash and focaccia was delicious, as were the cocktails ❤️ we had told them it was our anniversary and they gave us champagne and little Madeleines 💕 as a baker, I have never seen such a pristine perfect piece of coconut cake
You need reservations and they book out a few weeks. There is only one table that is not reserved. The atmosphere is rustic modern and what I really noticed was they have well spaced tables and it is not a noisy restaurant. The food is absolutely amazing and the waitstaff are knowledgeable with pairings. We were not rushed. Go early enough to explore the 1832 mill remains and the creek out back.
One of the best meals I've ever had in my life. I had the bacon wrapped pork loin and it was incredible. It was so tender, I could cut it with a butter knife. My whole table, everyone loved what they got. The only reason I put 4 out of 5 stars was because we were seated in the upper floor and it was very, very loud. I would recommend the restaurant install some sound-dampening baffles to help with the noise level, but I want to emphasize that the service was excellent and the food was incredible.
A popular and trendy high end restaurant. Reservations required if you can get one. We were only able to get a reservation at the bar seating... and you are seated at the bar next to someone else. Drink and menu prices are commensurate with fine dining. Side dishes are not included unless identified in the entree description. My wife had trout which she said was excellent. I had a lobster tail over mashed potatoes, which was just okay. It was small and the lobster was presliced and looked like it came out of a can. Service was good, desert was good but intended for a single serving which we split anyway. Bathrooms were the cleanest I've ever seen in a restaurant. Staff was professional and managed thing efficiently.
My wife and I made a reservation here for Valentine’s Day. Atmosphere is great! We love the setup of the old farmhouse, the shiplap, and the ambiance. We had no issues with parking or waiting to be seated. Host was very friendly and nice. Our server was very tentative. For an appetizer we ordered the Chicken Pot Pie Croquettes. Very nice presentation and bonus points for something on the menu we’ve never seen before. For the main course we got the Japanese A5 Wagyu Filet and the Spiced Duck Breast. Both presented very well and were cooked right, tasted good. We also had 1 drink each before diner and split the Bananas Foster Crème Brûlée. The reason for the in depth description is to explain that while everything we had was definitely good. Nothing we had was GREAT. Our total bill after tip was a little over $250. A good experience and a place scratched off our bucket list, but nothing worth going back for.
Juniper is a gem of Johnson City. There are other passionate establishments around, but not polished, classy or dialed in like Juniper is. We really enjoy exploring the menu and experiencing the off menu specials. This visit we went big and were almost completely impressed. The one hiccup was ordering a $160 50oz steak for the table and it came +90well done after ordering med-med well. The presentation was very pleasing, but the mouth feel and flavor of the beef were lost being so over cooked. The table service and staff interactions are highly tuned in. This has to be a really fun place to work. You can see and feel it in the staff interactions. Mara worked through the menu and specials with us with great poise and confidence. Her knowledge and skill set the table for us. Great job! Great job to the chefs and the menu. We look forward to many more visits and high end service.
Service is good and so is the food. I don't personally think it's worth the high price. Sides and small plates are reasonably priced. The Brussels are a favorite, but last time we mainly had leaves. I feel the small plates and sides are better than the mains. Desserts are also delicious. They add small touches that are a nice bonus when celebrating a special event, but it loses some of the uniqueness when several tables are getting the same special bonuses... Noise is a problem upstairs since the space is so small and the noise panels don't seem to help much. They at least tried to help mitigate this.
Our group enjoyed our wine very much. The steak was not the best cut of meat. The seasonal veggies had way too much seasoning on them. The potatoes and mushrooms were delicious. The problem we had with service was a couple of eye rolls and a death stare from our server, especially when we asked for olive to dip our bread in. While the atmosphere is very much for a romantic dinner with your spouse, it is definitely not the environment if you wish to have a conversation with friends and people not rudely listen. I do not think this experience was worth the money we spent.
Love the menu concept, great choices of different sized options. Bartenders were phenomenal. Hostess a bit rude and unwelcoming, parking a problem...at menu prices they should really offer valet. Food well prepared. Huge disappointment in oyster dish. Oysters hidden in spicy, greasy soupy concoction.
Updated Review 10/22/24: I have dined at Juniper almost bi-weekly, to at minimum once a month, since opening in 2022 and had very pleasant experiences. They have a truly wonderful service team that go the extra mile to create a great dining experience for you. The food is great as well, and the pastry chef is especially talented. Unfortunately, I just dined there this past Friday, and will not be returning. I was dining with my family, and we finished dinner at 7:50-8 pm-ish and placed a dessert order. The waitress took the order, and then never returned, walking past but entirely avoiding our table until 8:50 pm. Every time we tried to request her, she walked away too fast or looked away. She finally came back and said she put our dessert on hold because she didn’t want our ice cream to melt (? We finished dinner and were not waiting for anything). We asked for the dessert in a to go box so we could eat some and take it home without having to wait long to get boxes/make extra work for a busy staff.. the table in front of us did the same and got their big order of desserts very quickly... Manager came and said they’re working on it, but absolutely nothing was done to make up for the full hour of my time that was wasted with a young child at the table. We are patient and understanding and should have just paid and left without any dessert, but incredibly insulting response from the manager who the waitress said refused to do anything to make it right. At an upscale restaurant, you shouldn’t have to ask for your time and loyalty to be respected. 1 hour was a lot and the restaurant was not full at all :(
