Fantastic food. If you're looking for a spot to get lunch, this is the place to go. The food is amazing, the environment and atmosphere have that very rustic vibe, and the service is great. The fries come out piping hot, and the burger is perfect. Prices are reasonable, but the one thing about Julian is the parking gets very tricky, even on some weekdays.
Miner’s Diner in Julian is a cozy, classic spot with great comfort food and a welcoming vibe. Our waitress Kaylen was friendly, attentive, and made the experience even better. The apple pie with ice cream was amazing,a perfect ending and absolutely worth the stop. 🍎🥧🍨
This place is a respite from the loud, clouded world we live in. Instantly upon entering you’re greeted by warm, friendly, smiling faces from the staff. I’d like to acknowledge Vivian personally. I have been in the hospitality industry for 20+ years and I am hypercritical about the service I receive. I would offer Viviana a job anywhere I work, I would be lucky to have people as attentive, kind, professional, knowledgeable, patient, and joyful as her along side me during service. Vivian, you are amazing at what you do, your hard work is not unnoticed. I did not get as much time with the rest of staff but everyone was a delight!
Great place to grab lunch! Visited on a Saturday around 1:00pm in September and had to wait about 15 minutes for a table. We put in our name and number and walked around nearby shops until they texted that our table was ready. We were lucky enough to get a window seat! Fun people-watching as there are many tourists who visit Julian in the fall. We ordered a burger and chili fries. If you split an order they give you the option of ordering your own side! Good diner food and really fun fountain drink menu with a variety of flavors and ice creams (see photo). Our server/hostess/waitress were all so kind and friendly which made our time here even more memorable. Highly recommend if you need a bite to eat while in Julian!
Great fun family experience. Good burgers, starters, milkshakes and even a little candy shop. The inside of the restaurant is very cool and full of character lots of retro like decoration. Staff very friendly and hospitable great service definitely recommend when I got this Bam👍
I love the ambience here! Very rustic. Ordered the tri tip dip and it is possibly the best dip sandwich I ever had! I contemplated getting a second one but remembered I still needed to get some pie. Pace yourself. Also, don’t forget to check out the vintage candy store. Pretty awesome down there.
Came in for a soda and fries and left with a stomach full of chili cheese fries and milkshakes. This diner is a must ! It had all the charm of an old school diner and I personally loved sitting at the bar and watching the staff make shake after shake. I did come in with the intention of getting a soda since they had a sign outside that said they have traditional soda floats, etc. But the milkshakes looked so good to pass. My chocolate malt had a great texture but it was a bit too sweet for me. My husband’s cookie dough shake was surprisingly better ! The real star for us was the chilli cheese fries. They were so delicious that we ordered a second one halfway through the first. The chilli was so yummy, we were shocked at how wholesome and flavorful it was considering we eat a lot of chilli cheese fries back home in LA. I highly recommend getting the chilli here as I noticed they had other ways to serve it. The staff were friendly and helpful. Definitely a tourist spot, but I felt the food was worth it !
Came to Julian to have breakfast here. This place does not disappoint at all. This is a small town with a lot of history, and the store gives you that feeling as soon as you walk in. The staff is kind, courteous, and attentive. So much to look at and memorabilia to see. I kept it simple with French toast and coffee, but the other diner's food looked good and were portions. The menu has plenty to choose from. Stop by if you're in the area.

We almost always stop here when visiting Julian. Fun atmosphere, fun things to look at and the food has never been bad. Great for the whole family!
Didn’t know what to expect… went up for some pie, primarily but needed some lunch first. great burger basket and fries, pleasant surprise! Not much left for apple pie, but we managed.

Sriracha and Slaughterhouse burgers were delicious. They have recreated the old mine town salon setting well. It was fairly crowded but service was excellent.

Staff didn't seem interested in waiting tables but pleasant. Food good. Loved the atmosphere.
Very American-style restaurant with an absolutely beautiful design. The place almost invites you in — the ambiance is warm, cozy, and very well done. Unfortunately, the food didn’t live up to the setting. The burger was disappointing: the bun was noticeably sweet, which felt odd for a hamburger, and the burger itself arrived only slightly warm. Overall, I enjoyed the atmosphere much more than the food.
The restaurant was very busy, and we waited about 30 minutes on a waitlist before being seated. The menu is straightforward, with a clear focus on burgers. Overall, our meal was positive: the bread was soft, the meat well-seasoned, and the vegetables were notably fresh. However, we ordered two bison burgers that unfortunately arrived cold. On a brighter note, the fries were exceptional, perfectly crispy and not at all oily. The non-alcoholic hot cider was also a highlight and extremely good. The staff was friendly and attentive, even kindly moving us to a preferred table upon request. While the service was a bit slow, their helpfulness made up for the wait.
We only got an ice cream to counteract the hot day in Julian. The inside is rustic. Our single scoop ended up being about 4 after the waffle cone was filled up. There is a train that circled the restaurant and there is a candy mine below the restaurant with old time candies like gum cigarettes. The staff was very friendly with big smiles.

Good food and great ambiance. Historical building with old time diner/fountain drinks feel. Service was good.

Attentive service, good eats in a quirky historical setting. Loads to look at and also lots of toys/games for sale if you need to entertain kids. Our server Kaylin was efficient and professional.

Pamela our server is THE best. Very nice, attentive and friendly. We ordered onion rings for the table. Very good. Crisp and flavorful. I ordered Miners burger. It had all the fixins- . Sadly it c was tasteless. The patty had zero flavor. They ought to add a little salt, seasoning salt as a patty needs help.
Food was ok . Sandwich bread not fresh or toasted and fell apart first bite. Waitress was pretty good, nice. Bus boy took a $5 bill that I had sitting in front of me to pay for the kids candy. Just reached down and snatched it up even though I had signed the bill tipped and set the check to the side of the table. I thought that was strange.. Otherwise it's a cute place with lots of cool stuff to look at !
My first time here. Visiting friends in California and happened by this wonderful quaint little town called Julian. This restaurant is on the main street in town and looked like a little hole in the wall type of place that I love. Although the atmosphere was definitely up to par, the food left much to be desired. The food wasn't bad but they could have done alot better with the preparation. I got the turkey, bacon, avocado sandwich with a side of onion rings. The sourdough bread bread was dry and not toasted, they put very little turkey on the sandwich and just a few drops of mayonnaise. Also, the onion rings weren't bad, there was way too much breading for my liking. On top of that, the service was fairly slow even though the place wasn't that crowded.
Just came for a visit stop to dine at Miner's diner with family daughter loved her chicken tenders and onion rings. I had a slaughter house burger didn't care for it meat was very over cooked and mushrooms were burnt. Chili cheese fries I had though were very good. My husband had the bison burger which was ok.

Stopped in for lunch during our visit to Julian. The wait was long but the food and service were really just average.
The worst experience of all our visits to Julian. The woman who registers at the entrance is rude and arrogant; she shouldn't be working with customers. She was not only haughty to us but to everyone who comes in to ask questions. She acts like she owns the place and demands you move even if you've only stopped for a few seconds to see what the restaurant is about. During our meal, they didn't bring us napkins. We asked the young man who greets you inside for them since the waitress seemed very busy, and he practically threw them on the table. The food was acceptably good. They didn't bring the orange juice we ordered or the onion rings. They brought fries, and when we told them we hadn't asked for them rudely, they said it didn't matter, we could keep them. Definitely the worst restaurant in the area by far. However, their tip suggestions are ridiculously high. Seriously? NEVER EVER coming back to the place.
Came here with my family (four of us) mid-day on a Wednesday, as I had memories of coming here as a Boy Scout. We got seated pretty quickly and eventually someone came to take our drink order. Then after that took our main orders. Service seemed slow in general— it took a while to get our food. Myself and my kids ordered burgers, and my wife ordered a miners melt. When we got our food it was room temperature, including our fries. Our waiter never came back to check on us. My wife’s melt was congealed and gross. My BBQ burger was okay but very well done, almost overcooked. Fries were okay (just not hot). My wife ate only a few bites of her melt before she couldn’t continue. When they finally came back to our table (someone clearing it who wasn’t our waiter) my wife started to explain how her melt wasn’t good. And the person clearing our table was like “well I’m not your waiter”. So eventually our waiter came and asked if we wanted something else, and we said no (everyone has already ate). They took it off the bill as expected and we left. Overall not great food or staffing experience here. We will not be back.
We were in town today a few minutes before 11 AM and wanted breakfast. They were only serving lunch. We were hungry and decided to stay. Gal was nice and opened front door for me as she saw I had difficulty walking up the steps and husband was parking the car. Spacious comfy booth. Cute place but upon walking in is a kind of negative sign about not serving people if they are not nice to staff. Not very welcoming and they could have made a funny sign not one that feels you are being reprimanded. I actually did not see till I sat down and it might of deterred me as we are always nice and tip well. Limited menu choices. I had a burger and husband had a patty melt. Both overcooked when we requested as rare as possible. Onion rings kind of doughy and both are meals were left halfway unfinished. Food just did not taste good or fresh. They charged us $6.00 each for a Coke and Diet Coke. Sorry $12 is out of line for a diner. They put on a service charge before I even paid. Our bill for small burger with fries and coke and patty melt with onion rings was almost $60. They did give us a military discount when I inquired.I told her I would pay cash and they removed. They also had a note about not taking large groups. We will definitely not be back nor recommend.
Always go here, this time was blah. We were stoked cuz no wait. There were booths available but we were sat in a crappy 2 top. I asked if we could move to a booth, server said she would ck...what's the biggie lol 2 min later she said it was OK. Food took a long time even though it was dead compared to how it usually is. Western burger was not good. BBQ sause thin, onion rings cold...same with my partners mushroom burger. Chili was outta can. It's like a C+ only cuz the atmosphere is amazing. Server was doing bare minimum...didn't match the kitchy, home town vibe of the place. More of an east coast vibe. Not bad just lost something in the past few years. Next time ill try one of the deli's I saw. Oh ya...paper straws. Fin. Update, with our stomachs were not happy at night.

We were greeted at the door by a guy that looked like he was just hanging out, unprofessional and confusing to customers. No host sign, no sign in here, and he didnt greet us until we climbed the stairs and tried for the door. It was bizarre?! As a restaurant owner I can tell you the employees were nice, but had no idea what they were doing. The waitress was very sweet but had no server training and if she did she should find a new trainer. She never brought us silverware after asking for it twice. She was in over her head but didnt need to be. Heard many other tables asking for things that she should have brought already. The food was over priced and atrocious, Julian doesn't have any great restaurants, but this was by far the worst. Plastic utensils, frozen burger patties, poor service and $20 for a burger and fries? Portions were small and food was just bad! Too bad because the place could be great, the location and history of the property are amazing. Get a restaurant consultant because you have no idea what you are doing and you could be making a fortune!
I went to Miners today because my son really wanted to try a soda. Upon approaching the door, a lady came out and asked us hpw many in our party. I said 2 and we just wanted to sit at the soda bar. She said she'd have someone clean it off and then told us we could sit down. We sat down and a lady came and asked us if we'd been helped. We said not yet and that we just wanted a soda and ice cream. She said ok and that she'd let our server know. No one ever came back and despite us sitting in front of the soda bar with 4 people working directly in front of us, no one asked us what we wanted. We ended up walking out with nothing. Can't recommend. The Julian cafe and Bakery is pretty darn good though.
