When I was young, my family lived in Indonesia for 11 years. Indonesia's a great country with vibrant culture, wonderful people, and food so good you'll wonder why you can't find it everywhere. It shares similarities with other Asian cuisines, such as Indian, Malaysian, and Thai, but has enough setting it apart to give it equal standing with some of the best dishes of any ethnic cuisine. Rice Bowl in Katy has Indonesian food on the menu, and if you're overlooking it you're missing out. The rendang is on point, and freezes well for leftovers to enjoy another time. You can get it in three varieties of spicy, and if I have to criticize I would say their hottest isn't quite up to what I remember as authentic, but I can't fault them for tailoring to an American palate. I could add a comment when I order to "please hurt me with cabe chilis" (ghost peppers, basically, commonly used in Indonesian spice), but the rendang is so flavorful otherwise that the spice really isn't that important in the grand scheme of things. The kwetiau goreng is also excellent, with a great balance of meats and noodles exploding with flavor. The mie goreng and nasi goreng make wonderful side dishes with virtually any other entree. If you're looking for Indonesian food as a fan or first-timer, Rice Bowl has you covered and won't let you down. They have Chinese food on the menu, too, and I'm sure it's good, but I can't get Indonesian food anywhere else in Houston so everytime I order food from here I go Indo. Give it a try if you're in the area, it gets my seal of approval!

Thrilled to have a blend of Asian cuisines nearby. (Indonesian & Chinese food offered) You can order online, by phone, or show up in person and dine in or carry-out. The wait times are minimal for the quality of food produced. The staff (customer service) is one of the friendliest I have ever come across at any restaurant (dine-in included). They are polite and you are always greeted on a personal level. There is a sense of pride in their work here; something many businesses today are lacking. You can expect a friendly and caring experience. The dishes are well put together, are a perfect combination of spice and flavor, and not what one would expect. The portions are massive and I always have leftovers to enjoy later on.

First, the dishes are affordable, made fresh, and we've tried both a broad selection of the Chinese fusion and Indonesian dishes and were satisfied every time. Last time we had the ramen and it was the best bowl of ramen i've had outside of Japan. I want to say it'd even rival some of the more popular places in the Katy area. The staff is kind and courteous and just want you to be happy and enjoy their food. I highly encourage giving this place a shot. It's small, the name is deceiving, but being a little adventurous can be rewarding.

This is a really good place for Chinese-Indonesian food. They sell Chinese food as well, but don't go there for your basic American Chinese food; Orange Chicken, Wonton Soup. They're good too probably. But this is not the place for it. When you go to this place, ask for the Indonesian menu. For those who have lived in Indonesia, and had Nasi Goreng at Mie GM (Bakmi Gajah Mada), Rice Bowl Indonesian fried rice is really close to it. They have good Mie Ayam too (Chicken Noodle). The best you can get here in Houston since Noodle 88 closed their restaurant a decade ago. I like their Ayam Goreng Mentega, Ayam Bakar too. Some said the Soto Betawi is good too.

Such and quaint spot! Wonderful service and good food. Will definitely come back to try some different dishes.

Although the place is small "4-5 " tables several people were there..the food is authentic and,therefore, totally delicious. If you really like Indonesian food this will be a place to try out.

Ordered the Rendang Sapi. Tasted JUST like the traditional Rendang I ate in Jakarta, Indonesia. It had a slight sweet taste that isnt traditional but apart from that its the real thing! If you like or want Indonesian food, must try place! If you havent tried Indonesian food, your missing out. edited review: The dish is a little pricey. Traditionally, this meal is made with low cuts of meat boiled for a long time. Unless it's a prime cut of beef, I wouldn't pay 15$ for one dish.

Besides Only getting one jalapeño in my General jo chicken it was ok.. steamed rice was stale & cold.. if you show up check your rice.. definitely not $12 dl worth

If you like Indo-Chinese food, then this is the place to try. I recommend the orange chicken, it's very good served over rice. Customer service is good, and the place is pretty clean. Service is pretty quick and served at a good temperature.

Food was bland. Curry didn't taste like curry nor even have a nought salt. The chicken was so little. Mostly just onions and two small pieces of bell pepper. The chicken fried rice, the chicken was not appealing. Disappointed.

I ate lunch here on 7/26/23. I ordered the beef egg foo young and got beef fried rice. There was only 3 beef pieces. I had to stop eating because I found a strange hair. I’m still feeling sick the next day. I wish I can call an inspector to have this place shut down.

Terrible customer service. The guy told me he can't make fried rice with just onions and eggs... How hard is that to make, even if I pay more.. All you have to do is put the rice in the wok and add onions. Only vegetable fried rice and meat. Vegetable fried rice comes with too much extra stuff my daughter doesn't like and they used to make it like that. Never coming back not getting my business again.

Disgusting. Egg rolls are slimy inside General chicken taste expired I wanted steam rice, instead got fried rice. Rice wasn’t even good, super dry. Spent 40 dollars on trash basically, the one in Houston is a lot better.

I am not a complainer or hard to please. I think I have only ever left one bad review. However, I was appalled at the terrible food I was served at this place. The Rice Bowl replaced my beloved Canton Chef, so I had hopes the menu and quality would be similar. It is not! I ordered Orange Chicken and House Lo Mein, and egg rolls. The chicken was so tough I could barely bite through it in both dishes. The pork was hard as a rock in the Lo Mein and the shrimp were little rubbery fried pebbles! I had to pick out the beef which was decent and enough noodles to have something to eat. My son had to eat a corn dog instead. I have to assume the meat is just pre-cooked and sitting around in dried out batches and is mixed into whatever dish as it is ordered. The egg rolls and crab puff were gag worthy, tasted “off” like the contents were about to spoil and the oil they were fried in was rancid. I did call the restaurant to complain and I have to say the lady who answered was very kind and apologetic. She promised to give me my meal for free next time and speak to the chef. Sadly, there will be no next time. It was just that bad! I just wasted about $30 to dump most of it in the trash. Now I have to go brush my teeth to get the taste out of my mouth. Back to the search for great Chinese takeout in this area. Come back, Canton Chef!

Gave this “place” a second try after my first experience was right after the take over and ownership change from Canton Chief. Where, I purchased a very simple take out menu for 25 plus years. Wonton soup and egg rolls. Maybe not weekly, but monthly for sure on average. What I just threw over the fence was horrendous!!! Just as bad as round 1. There will not be a third attempt. This food is bad,,,, period. I called tonight and asked the person if they have ever tasted their own Wonton soup, answer - NO. Enough said.

I ordered Kwetiau and Ayam Mentega (Indonesian butter chicken). Kwetiau is alright and the chicken taste like... leftovers? There's another rice bowl on hwy 6 and bellaire which is better managed than this place. I'm not sure why this place is so disappointing compared to the other location.
