This is a real English pub, started by an Englishman back in the '80s and then sold to an American, Scott McFadden, about 10 years ago. Scott has maintained the character and flavor except I think the food seems to get better steadily over the years!! It is mostly locals with or without kids into mid-evening. There is a play area with toys. Often there is live music for a few hours starting mid-evening. The toy area becomes a stage for the band and many of us who have been playing together for decades show up to perform. And many of us who have been listening together for decades show up to listen. The musicianship is generally superb.
I've got to give this place 5 stars for knowing their clientele and doing good business. Play area is amazing for families with kids who can't sit still yet and you can sacrifice a parent to supervise so the rest of the adults can catch up. They forgot our appetizer, and when we caught it on the bill they not only took off the charge but seamlessly gave us the app to go! You can't get every order perfect, but you can still provide perfect customer service in light of it, and these guys totally get that!!
Fish tacos! So fresh and delicious. It's hard for me to order other items because I like the fish tacos so much. Their burgers are great too. And the wait staff and owner are super chill, really nice.
I was taken here on a burger outing by a friend of mine a local locksmith, with a deep knowledge of burgers. We ordered the regular hamburger, and I told the waitperson to cook it "Juicy" at which they knowingly smiled, (A good sign) and it came to our table fragrant, sizzling, juicy, and perfectly rare in the middle). The Cheddar Chuck Burger, was amazing, and the garlic fries, often done sloppily at other places here, has a fresher, and more herbal kick to them. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and I'll be back!
Our visit to Kensington Pub was easily summed up in one word, excellent! The owner is outstanding and you can tell he is a great friend to all who join him at the pub! We started with appetizers and drinks, which were both refreshing (cobb salad) and juicy and delicious (chicken tenders & fritters)! The waitresses were wonderful and made us feel like family as they were on top of everything, very helpful, kind and efficient! So saying we had great service overall is an understatement! The thick cut pork chops were recommended and I must say we definitely had the juiciest and most tender ones we could have asked for! Absolutely delicious and will have again, especially with the accompanying buttery mashed potatoes and veggies! Another in our party had the burger and fries, which were a great surprise as well, as they are well-cooked real potato fries! (The garlic fries were a nice treat as an appetizer also!) To finish it off, we ended with the highly recommended sticky toffee pudding. My goodness, I could have eaten that over and over again! Such a delicious flavor and well-paired with a giant scoop of vanilla ice cream and whip! A favorite to all for sure! To summarize, we couldn't have been any happier with the overall hospitality, friendliness and great food! Made for a nice ending to our evening and we will be back for sure! Thanks again!!
I made my first trip to this jewel last Friday, and wow! Great food, mellow atmosphere, and just a fun place to be. Did I mention the delicious food? That too…along with an excellent selection of malted beverages…I could go back here many times and never get tired of it…
I must say, we thoroughly enjoyed our experience at Kensington Circus Pub, from the hospitable owner to the great food to the wonderful staff! Myself and my friends were able to visit during a week day evening and it had a nice, relaxed atmosphere, although I hear the music is a great time during the weekends too! I will be sure to come back for that sometime soon as well. The appetizers were delicious, as I'm a big fan of the fritters, and the burger and fries were just the right touch for a good pub food evening! The topping on the cake was having the sticky toffee pudding that I had heard great things about! It definitely did not disappoint and I must recommend to all as well! I'll be back for more, thanks again for the great evening and hospitality!!
Nice place for a neighborhood evening bite. Excellent, friendly crew, laid-back feel, and great menu. Fish and chips, juicy burgers, and beed on tap are highlights. A full bar awaits those in need of something stronger. TVs mounted for the sports of the moment. There is even some outdoor seating available. They occasionally have live music, usually on Fridays & Saturdays, sometimes even Sundays. Best casual dining in the neighborhood. They recently added a few choice new items to their menu, too. The ultimate laid-back evening dining experience.
Terrific fish & chips. The fish is great. The chips are great. So is the coleslaw and tartar. I want to try more from the menu, but it will be hard to stray from the F&C. It has the reputation of a day care center. It was not full of kids when I was there.
Great place. I had the best pork chop I have ever tasted there yesterday. Scott thank for the delicious dessert. We will definitely be back next Friday. Excellent service.
Fantastic place to go with young kids. There's a play area with loads of toys. Thank you to the waitress who accommodated my bill splitting request.
Kensington Circus Pub is a local favorite and Kensington staple! Some say the best ribeye in town... I had the pork chop and whoa it was big and thick and seasoned and cooked just right! This place is great classic pub atmosphere, live music on occasion, attentive friendly experienced excellent service and bar/ kitchen staff! Excellent place for a drop in dinner with friends and family
Came here and had the pleasure of Jenny serving us, the most lovely experience. Fantastic music, and vibes. She was so on top of our many orders and went above and beyond. Can’t say enough lovely things.
My third time at the Kensington Circus Pub Wonderful, friendly staff, great food, nice wine, beer, and bar selection. It seemed as if most of the patrons were all friends. The only un-enjoyable thing was the sound guys plumbers crack. Three times and nothings changed, Dude, stop wearing untied sweat pants and short shirts people are trying to eat...
There is something for everyone here! Timing is important to determine the ambiance you prefer. Kids abound in the early evenings, music is loud after 8 on weekends, soccer and sports make it vibrant and a bit crazy! The service is very friendly, the owner seems to treat customers and his crew with the same warmth and respectful vibe. We LOVE it! Food is always EXCELLENT and nice variety of beer on tap!
In a world diminished by takeout this burger and fries somehow just gets better. Maybe because they know that assembled it has a 2 minute half-life? The bun in its own bag makes the takeout even better than the in person burger. Crazy good. Eat in is fine too if you like atmosphere and people. Whatever. This burger is made to 5 star the apocalypse.
Totally wonderful time! The music by the skilled jazz quintet Le Jazou provided the perfect ambiance (not too loud, not too soft) to socialize with our friends. I enjoyed a Shepherd’s Pie with a couple of pints of Guinness. I would definitely recommend it if you’re looking for a smaller venue with a unique theme and authentic English fare.
Live music most weekends. A little noisy most evenings unless the crowd really came to listen. Excellent bluegrass nights! Love the veggie burger and fries.
The best onion rings in the universe. And the fish and chips were spectacular, too! This is the place to go if you want to be “bad” and eat really good fried food. Live music and no cover charge on weekend evenings.
I visited this restaurant with my girlfriend and friend after hearing a local band would be playing. Tonight was a full house, I did not see a single empty seat throughout the pub. Starting with the food, I got the Dover sole with lemon caper sauce. It seemed to be a lighter (and presumably healthier) choice compared to burgers, pasta, etc. The fish came with broccoli and rice on the side. Everything was very tasty; the fish was soft and flaky and went really well with a squeeze of lemon. The rice was soft, fluffy, and had a good flavor from the pico de gallo. The main selling point tonight was the atmosphere. We had front row seats to the show: a local swing jazz group. Overall, great place to eat and share a drink or two with friends and chat.
English pub with an East Bay flair. This place has some traditional British faire such as bangers and mash, as well as East Bay foods. In my experience they always have at least two vegetarian items on the menu. The beer selection is extensive as well. The big draw for my family is the large kids play area over in a corner. It lets us all enjoy the wait (me with beer, my 4 year old with pirate ship). There's also a large chalkboard for little artists. Come early though, it does get crowded at night and eventually the play area becomes a music stage.
Quaint British style pub with some traditional food. My husband and I both got the Full English Fry Up. Very tasty. Ask for the jam, it's delicious on english muffins!
Hands down the best fish and chips I have had in a very long time! The service was friendly and the prices were fair. Excellent draft beer selection and big screen TVs for watching sports. Definitely worth a visit.
Best pork chop around. Wish I lived closer.

Been coming here for 10 or so years. The prices have gone up but the food is still good and filling. Love the pork chop, corn fritters, and the pepe salad! Sometimes there's live music which is fun. Staff always great, but when it's busy be prepared to wait to place your order and get your food. Otherwise it's been a fun decade with this place and cheers to many more years of good food!
A group and I came here on a whim after our show, and when I say I was blown away, I mean it. From service, to quality, to price, this place is doing it right. We happened to be sitting in Jenny's section, and she was so lovely. She took care of us and even though the place was packed, like multiple turn over on tables packed, Jenny made sure to keep us updated on food times, and drink orders. She was the epitome of what good service is! She even brought out extra onion rings because our food was taking longer than expected! Did she need to do that? Not at all- but on top of all of that, the owner came out to apologize about food times! It was incredible! this place gets it - if you want repeat customers, you make them feel like family, and that's what we felt like, family. Now let's talk about the food and the quality of it. My husband convinced me to order the rib eye, which I had no intention of doing, but my guy has a special talent for instantly knowing a quality kitchen, and let me tell you, he hasn't been wrong yet! The quality of the steak they serve is better (and larger) than most restaurants in SF. It was a marbled thing of beauty (not to mention, bigger than my head!) This place is gem, and if you happen to be around at the right time of night, you might just see the mayor, Odin, stop by for a special treat!
Beatles night FTW. Last Sunday on the month. So good
This is a warm, human restaurant with great food. The fish and chips are always good. The salads are generously sized and if nothing special, they never disappoint. The lamb pies are delicious. Great bar options.
The fish and chips were freshly cooked and piping hot when we got it. The waitress was very nice and helpful with us making a choice with our order. I would suggest going when they first open to beat the Crowd. I will be going Back!!
Big time worth going to visit guys. The Prime rib is to die for my friend Jack n I went had a ball. Very nice staff to give you attention so please go. You can thank me later
Great service! Heidy was so sweet and accommodating for me and my husband. The food was great and flavorful bar food! Can't wait to try some more dishes! Will definitely be back!
This place is such a gem! Came for dinner and some beers for the first time yesterday. Our server was so friendly and enthusiastic! We had the Monday meatloaf special and the pork chop meals and garlic fries. All were excellent! One of the best pork chops I've ever had!!! Also half off Manhattan's on Mondays as well! Guiness was poured beautifully! Can't wait to come back here!

I went there for St Patrick's Day dinner with some friends. The band was quite good, but a little loud. The Guinness was excellent as ever. They had a special menu that night with Irish themed food. I had the stew, which was very tasty, but overpriced. $18 for a bowl of stew and a small side dish? 🤨 Still, we had a great time. The circus pub is a great neighborhood resource.
This is a warm, in the human sense, restaurant. Literally an East Bay Cheers in an English pub manner, with excellent food, wonderful people on the floor, behind the bar and in the kitchen. The star, though, has to be the ribeye. Bar none, it is fabulous. Fish & chips are always good. Salads are sizeable, and if unremarkable, they never disappoint. Shepherd's pie is on point. Good bar options. This is your tried and true place.
Long established neighborhood pub. Seemed to have undergone a management change since my previous visit. Food prep has improved and was good. Nicely curated, small selection of beers and ales. Favorite foods are 1/4 lb cheeseburger and Shepard's Pie. Family friendly and often packed with regulars and locals. If you're not in a "family friendly" mood (it happens), you might prefer to go later.
Cute little neighborhood pub. The food was delicious and the waitress with purple hair was attentive/nice/ awesome (hi if you're reading this!). The items were maybe a little more expensive than I would pay for by a few dollars, but I think I'm okay with that since the overall experience was very positive. I would definitely come again!
Thanks for being open during this time! Im not usually one for taking fish and chips to go or take home but you have to do what you have to do. The containers were cut so the fish didn't get soggy and remained crispy. Everything was delicious! Fish, chips, slaw and even malt vinegar! Instagram @planefoodies

The fish tacos and pulled pork are so good in this warm family-friendly pub. We used to go for the live music too, but now we leave right before because they’ve been playing it so loud, it makes conversation impossible.
Nothing wrong with the place, just a generic "British pub". They had a menu of local craft beers on tap, which i liked (Anderson Valley, Dust Bowl, for example, and a few more). They have Fullers and Guinness, for those looking to get the more traditional "British pub" experience.

Friendly staff. Prices are high for the quality/food. The owner is invested and there often to help and run things. The menu is diverse. Triva and music mights are fun and busy. Nice to have one or two local beers. Great English beer selection.
Service was slow. This was a drive for us, difficult to find because street signs being in poor repair. Food was ok, some needed salt, no salt on table. Small space, maybe not enough help? I really wanted to like it, but just not worth the drive.
I googled best fish and chips near me. The kensington citrus pub popped up. I went ordered a drink and a to go order of their fish and chips. Got home and was disappointed. Chips there was maybe 10 of them and they were greasy and over done. There was about 2 tbsps of store bought slaw. And sadly 4 pieces of soggy greasy fish. Had the batter been better or cooked better would have been great. The actual fish was ok. The tartar sauce was pickes and onion it was too much there didn't seem to be sauce at all. That could be my bad as I don't know what British tartar sauce is supposed to be like.I had seriously high hopes for this place. But $30 dollars for a drink and greasy fish and chips just doesn't do it for me. Maybe there are better things on the menu. Try it for yourself.
I ordered take out 3pc small fish and chips. Fish was a bit dry but I did take out do anyways staff is great atmosphere lively with a band. That's nice but 3 small pieces of fish and fries for $30 isn't worth it. Add some slaw or bigger pieces of fish. I'm a regular size woman so this should be filling but I was still hungry
The people are very friendly, always give me a warm welcome. Food is excellent with generous portions-usually take home. The atmosphere is loud, as pubs are. The music, live bands are quality musicians-but the VOLUME is MUCH HIGH, TOO LOUD. Too loud for people to enjoy the music, but are unable to hear each other in conversation. I've seen people leave because of it. It is a friendly place. Beatles song night is most enjoyable! The servers/waitresses are very efficient, taking care of menu orders with true compassion for each and everyone who enters there.
We've been coming here regularly for years and used to really love the food but the prices have jumped DRAMATICALLY in the last year and a half and the quality and portion sizes have gone downhill. No more refills on the iced tea (server failed to mention), no more half-pints of beer. $70 for 2 burgers, 1 salad, 2 pints. Not at all worth it. Never again.
The greasiest veggie burger I've ever had in my life! The fries were soggy and super greasy. The plate was covered in grease at the end. For a "British pub", no British and only 1 Irish beer on draft & none in bottles. The service was good, it was clean and atmosphere was fine but the food was super disappointing.
They lost out food order. Got there 6:30 left 8:30. Drank beer. They were busy for a Thursday night. They apologized and forgave our beer tab. Total 6 beers for 3 of us Never got our fish and chips. Went across the street and got pizza. 3 local dentists. I really wanted to like this place. Saw them on check please Bay Area.

The fish & chips were disappointing and I had high hopes for the British-style pub. The fish batter was not crunchy at all and separated easily from the fish. The fish was overcooked. The chips were few and not crispy either. The tartar sauce was a thick chunky relish, not creamy. If you have ever been to the UK, you will be disappointed. Sadly, there is no good british-style fish & chips in the bay area. On a positive note, staff was friendly.

DO NOT GET THE VEGGIE BURGER. They ought to be ashamed selling that nasty thing for 18. 😩😩😩 The pork chop was pretty good. Mashed potatoes were delish. The place is a little bit of a dump….and the kids area is kinda messy/run-down. Service meh. We ended up spending 138 after tip for two adults and two kids. You can probably find a lot better options for your money. I wished we had gone to the pizza place across the street instead which was very busy. 😩
