This place is the real deal, it's been around over 70 years...brisket and ribs are among the best I've had....sausage alone is worth coming back for. The beans are smoky and savoury....

Very popular place! We got there at 1100 and it took 40 minutes for food to arrive. Outstanding brisket! The place filled quickly, and so the noise level rocketed sky high. They serve a lot of phoned in to go orders. No menus, all done verbally.

Drove up from Henderson, at the recommendation from some locals. No menu, the waitress just told me the typical BBQ meat and side options. No price provided. Bill came and it was $31. Ordered 7 ribs, spicy Mac and cheese and the coleslaw. Ribs were good, as was the sides. I do like a creamy coleslaw, but the watery based option they had was decent. I was hoping to have root beer with my BBQ, but they were out. Place is dimly lit / tavern. Service was decent, but not great. Overall good experience, but I don't think I will drive 30 minutes there and back again from Henderson.

I first went here roughly 12-15 years ago. My 1st visit the ribs stuck out in my mind that after going for lunch I had to go back again for dinner. While in the area again I made it a priority to stop by. Unfortunately this visit wasn't as amazing as my 1st. Ribs were 8/10, Brisket (moist) was 8/10, sausage 6/10, potatoes 6/10, Mac n cheese 7/10 and I'm not even a big Mac n cheese fan but this was solid. Lastly the cobbler was VERY disappointing I will give it a 4 only because of the ice cream, it appeared to be cinnamon. I love the hot towel after the meal to clean your hands and face. Lastly, it was frustrating to leave and have no cell access but that obviously is not their problem. Thankfully the gas station across the street helped me get back to the Interstate.

Classic, old school east Texas BBQ and beer joint. Been coming here for decades, service gets better, food still good. Sure the ribs are good and so are the sides, but save room for the peach cobbler and banana pudding.

Met some friends here for lunch. Pleasant atmosphere. Be advised there are no menu's so be sure to ask the waitress for any questions you may have Food is good...not the best BBQ joint I've ever been at but not the worst either. But let me tell you, the warm towels to clean off with after the meal are the icing on the cake. Must haves when you go: Texas Twinkies Banana Pudding

The banana pudding was absolutely extraordinary!!! We really liked the potato salad too, yummy and creamy and sour pickle-flavored. We do not care for such crunchy candy-covered ribs we prefer a tangy vinegar-based sauce. The brisket tasted oven-baked and a little dry. Even the pinto beans were sweet. But... that was just our opinion. Very pricey. Great reputation, but really disappointed in the meat and beans this trip. (We had ours to-go)

The smell as soon as you pull up fills the car and is amazing. Went inside to try the food and was not disappointed. I think that's the best brisket I've had in a long time. BBQ sauce is tasty. Really enjoyed our food. Bathroom was really clean too and had completely hands free things to wash hands. Good experience.

Went here at the recommendation of an aquantaince. I do NOT recommend this establishment unless you are a regular here. Get you food to go! The ribs are flavorful and fall off the bone tender. The brisket is soft but fatty. The flavor is caramelized on the fat side. So if you remove the fat, you remove a lot of the flavor. The smoked turkey has good smoked flavor but I'm not a huge turkey fan. I like it a bit more juicy. The 'spicy' Mac and cheese is simply HOT 🔥 without much flavor, is super thick but not gooey cheesy. The potatoes casserole is pretty good but could take it or leave it in my opinion. Again, not a lot of flavor. This place is very noisy and not a lot of lighting as it is a tavern. The juke box was going most of the time too. The service was nearly the worst I've seen! The server was annoyed when we asked if there was a menu. It was near the end of the meal, her hands were full and she leaned over from the other table to ask is we were ok. Never saw her again till my friend was offered a box. I had to request one as one was not brought for me too. The dessert was very dry, even for a cobbler. I should've passed but we all know I love dessert! So, if you must stop here, get the ribs to go and keep driving! The BBQ sauce is decent but the ribs don't need it.

Really dark dive bar. Used to drive 2hrs from metroplex to eat ribs. Ribs were dry and drowned in sauce. Good ribs only need a small amount of sauce, if anÿ if they are cooked right. Ĺunch for 2 and 2 teas, for over $60 is a lot! We don't mind paying that for exceptionally good food, which this was not. Not even offered a refill on tea.

Bring a thick wallet and a thin appetite. I was very disappointed with Country Tavern. They have no menu so you have no idea what anything costs or the extra charges that will show up on the bill. More disappointing was the portion size, the fatty brisket, and the long wait for the food (30 minutes). You'll notice how thin the ribs are in the photo. When I asked the server why the ribs were so thin, she said they base it upon weight and didn't respond to my dissatisfaction. (Apparently the customer is not always right at the Country Tavern.) The weight doesn't matter if you can see that the three small ribs on the plate look like that. For the price paid, one would expect a better portion size. I should have asked, "Would you be okay serving this size portion to your mom or dad?" But it wouldn't have mattered. She was on to the next table. Next time, I'll save the trip from Tyler and go to Stanley's. I've never left Stanley's hungry.

When I got there I was undecided what I should get. I seen everyone had ribs and looked fresh and delicious. I got my order togo and got old dried out ribs super thin as well. Place was packed for lunch and waited awhile for order. I learned a valuable lesson never trust bbq you cant see prepared bc I definitely would have said I dont them dry ribs.
