This place is amazing. The food is spectacular, the atmosphere is very upscale but welcoming, the staff is nice & the service is quick. It’s kinda expensive, but the quality usually makes it completely worth it.

Fantastic American style Chinese with their own unique dishes and a delicious, signature Mai Tai! Best Chinese in Lamorinda by far. Try the rainbow chicken!

Love love the eggplant! The last time we came one order equaled 5 pieces. This time each order had probably ten!! And we were a party of four and we each placed order for eggplant. And…we all ate every piece. Highly recommend the eggplant!! Service was pleasant. Not crowded for obvious reasons. We had a beautiful window table looking out at the twinkling lights of Mt.Diablo Blvd.

I greatly enjoy the food and portion sizes, but the excellent service is what compelled me to write this review. I've brought my grandmother here twice for early dinner (getting there between 5 and 6) on weekdays and was pleased that we were able to get a table with a nice view and was impressed by how attentive the staff was. We both very much enjoyed our dining experiences, and I highly recommend this place!

I used to eat here often- over 20 years ago... Came recently for first time in forever, their food is still really good! Even better! My favorites are still the salt n pepper calamari...potstickers...sauteed string beans(or green beans?)... all delicious!

The ONLY reason I give a one star review is because of the restaurant's policy of accepting reservations for 4 or more people. My family has supported Uncle Yu's since it opened in Lafayette and continued curbside service during the pandemic. My father who lives in Rossmoor can FINALLY go to one of his favorite places with his girlfriend yet he's told he can wait for a table. Not many folks who are 90 can sit around and wait for a table. Uncle Yu's is a large enough place and has accepted reservations for couples in the past. It's a rather sad policy and obviously makes couples who want to dine in the restaurant feel unwelcome. Shame on you Uncle Yu's. I tried, in vain, to get my dad to stop frequenting your establishment, however, he insists on continuing supporting Uncle Yu's and will be ordering curbside. Please consider welcoming couples with reservations back into your establishment. UPDATED REVIEW I raised the review to 5 star as the owner reached out and offered a fantastic solution for our family. We've always loved the food and appreciate the owners reaching out

Love this place. Service and food are excellent. Prices are reasonable and they have great lunch specials. Out of all the reviews I have done, it has been the first one to get five stars!

My husband attended a function at Uncle Yu's, Pleasanton. His cousin, who never eats fish, had the Chilean Sea Bass and ate every bite asking for more. I was so curious, I went with my husband to try it out at our Lafayette location and OMG, the best in the West ❣️The grilled cod, basted in Miso Hoisin sauce is placed on top of vegetables that are fresh and not over cooked. We finished with their dessert that was delicious as well, the coffee frozen confection. The Best 😋

We really love this place. The people, service, food and the ambiance are excellent! Prices are reasonable and they are even better with parties! I'd definitely recommend to all my friends and will give it "five stars" for ratings!

2/21/15 Every year for the lunar new year's eve we meet with my parents, sister's family, and a ton of friends at Chinatown SF to celebrate and light off firecrackers. This year we had plans to do the same thing, but found ourselves in the hospital instead. Our family lost a very special person on the morning of the Lunar New Year and we were all exhausted from days of sadness - nobody had eaten a thing. After hours of planning at a Oakmont Memorial Park, 9 of us met at Uncle Yu's around dinner time, and found a full house! We asked for a tale for 9, and they asked if we had a reservation. Ohhhh yeah, the New Year! We luckily were sat at the only open table within minutes and began hungrily staring at their menu. Before long, chow mein, chow fun, steamed rice, honey walnut prawns, Mongolian chicken, peking chicken, garlic prawns, orange chicken and a couple other dishes... found their way to our table. We finished almost every plate - all sharing and taking turns eating through our tears. The food was outstanding. Service was great too - especially for how full they were that night. I wish we'd gathered there to celebrate the New Year, but regardless, it was a great meal.

We visited Uncle Yu’s today and had a fantastic dining experience! We ordered everything at once, starting with the Hot and Sour Chicken Soup, followed by the Crab Stuffed Prawn, Kung Pao Shrimp, and Crab Fried Rice—all based on our server’s recommendations. The food was absolutely delicious, with each dish full of flavor and perfectly cooked. Despite our hunger and indecision, our server was patient and knowledgeable, guiding us through the menu and helping us make the best choices. The service was excellent, and the ambiance was both comfortable and inviting. Highly recommend Uncle Yu’s for an amazing meal and top-notch service!

Our first meal in the U.S one word, outstanding, the service was excellent and the portion sizes huge. The rest of our 3 week trip now has competition, i think it will be hard to beat.

I love the quality, the taste, and if I am paying a lot - I want food that makes me go mmmmmm each time. You can’t go wrong here. Personal favorites: honey walnut shrimps, & Chinese greens w black mushrooms

Good Chinese dinning but not the best in this area. Only dish I did not like was Mongolian beef. Something about it... just wasn't as good as I've had.

Good food, elegant atmosphere This lovely, white-tablecloth restaurant has been at this location for many years. The service is very fast but not all that friendly. I don't think of it as particularly authentic. The takeout service is super fast and convenient.

Still one of my favorite places for Chinese food and all of the Bay Area. This place is quick fast and effective. The food here is always great served hot and just absolutely some of the best. I especially enjoy their chicken salad. Definitely a choice that should be tried by everybody. I give this world not a perfect score just because most of the time parking really sucks especially when they’re working on the parking lot and you can’t find parking but besides that this place is a gem!

Decent food, very attentive staff, veggie options are limited and its very very pointed toward Anglo tastes for better or worse.

Food was good, but because our party was 5 people, we had to order two of each appetizer. To our surprise, the appetizers didn't even have the correct amount of food in it! It was my dad's birthday and left dinner still hungry since his dish (Walnut Prawns), only had 6 prawns in it... Overall, would potentially order again... but when dining in is an option since our take-out experience wasn't what we hoped.

Good food, terrible service. We went to celebrate my brothers birthday. Waited forever for our order to be taken, then food was dropped off at our table, had to flag down a busboy for chop sticks and hot sauce. Ordered bbq pork fried rice, waiter brought combo fried rice, which half of our table would not eat because of the shrimp. Waiters came in and out of room, didn't look our way, no way to let them know wrong dish was brought. We were finished eating by the time we were asked how the food was.

To be honest, I've had better food. Don't get me wrong, Uncle Yu's is good, but priced too high. I can easily get the same quality of food for less, and same or more quantity per dish. My last round I ordered about $95 of food for family of four, I could have gotten the same for around $65-$70 somewhere else. I am disappointed with their seafood dishes, they are mostly simple and bland and not much variety. I know some people love this place, but for me I have to think twice before going.

Good food but closed on Christmas day... I had to drive to Oakland's China Town.. How times have changed, I went by not expecting to stop but had a craving, I drove by after being taken advantage of this afternoon for lunch at WazWan in Emeryville $24.50 for a Togo lunch that a month ago cost me $12.50 for more food.. so I didn't want to pay big money so I went to Panda just up the street, I saw a long line and drove through the parking lot with no spaces and at the end of the centers parking lot is an alley way into Uncle Yu'$$$ parking lot. I went in and ordered a 30 year old favorite Manderine Triple Crown and BBQ Pork Fried Rice. togo $33.81, WOW! It ain't that special!

The food was OK for the price. The atmosphere was also just OK. The seating was uncomfortable especially because of my inability to plate my food from the table without having to get up to reach the food. Service was just OK but not special or worthy of a gratitude. I paid for my family's meals but felt the services or atmosphere was not outstanding enough to warrant a tip. However, after I paid and we were leaving the establishment to our car one of the restaurant's staff ran out after us and demanded a tip. Because of this rather strong arm demand, I begrudgingly gave them a tip. As a result of that action, which was somewhat intimidating, I will never patronize this establishment ever again.

I've been coming to Uncle Yu's for many years and often times the staff lacks good customer service, including the woman in the front who answers the phone to take food orders. Just the other day, I asked for soy sauce because I have not been getting any in my last 2 take out orders. I got shamed, questioned, and blamed over mentioning the lack of soy sauce I've not been receiving. She even shamed me for a 2nd time when I arrived to pick up my food regarding soy sauce. I really don't appreciate being treated disrespectfully as a customer and especially as a regular customer. To make my experience even more memorable, my entire salad contained all rotten pieces of lettuce and had hair in it. I ended up throwing my salad in the garage. Last but not least, please stop asking your customers if they want to tip the kitchen staff on "take out" orders . It's tacky and low class to ask. We are past Covid times and people will tip if they choose to on take out orders. No need to ask anymore.

My friend and I were terribly disappointed with the food and service. We have been going to the restaurant for over 15 years. We ordered Mu Shu Vegetables and Fun Chow noodles with chicken for birthday dinner. Initially, they brought out pre-made MuShu Vegetables wrapped as a main meal. I said that we wanted to eat together at the same time and wanted the food hot.. The server took away the food. Then my friend asked about about the Spicy Crispy Shrimp and was told that it came by itself and any rice was separate. The Chow Fun had small scraps of chicken and short noodles. The Mu Shu Vegetables had some onion, tofu and slivered cabbage. It didn't have any color. Neither of the dishes looked appealing. The waitress was very rude, didn't ask if everything was okay. She never gave us more water or hot tea. Another server asked if everything was ok and we said it wasn't. She took our plates and walked away. We asked if there was a new chef and were told no.

Served disgusting heated leftovers for a takeout order. The honey walnut shrimp was particularly offensive having clearly been microwaved to complete mush. I feel like my family was ripped off ordering from this place and we will be sure to stay far away in the future.

R

Meat quality is suspect Portions are hilarious Panda Express has...yes, I'm serious, better portions and meat quality. My suggestion: order the soup here and NOTHING ELSE Then pickup the rest at Panda. The soup alone will cause you to await the next stimulus check, burns a hole in your wallet and soul Avoid the spring rolls at this joint. The cost will make you weep. The taste and constitution of said rolls will roll your dearly departed loved ones, in their graves. Speaking of graves....select your plots early as after eating at UncleYus, you will feel the arteries clogging. Yummy!

Something has changed in the food. Not as good as it use to be servings and different taste. This used to be my favorite pre pandemic but now even the chow mein isn’t as good. The beef and sweet and sour pork wasn’t up to par. At all.

N

Not recommended at all, really bad experience, really rude receptionist, could care less about greeting and or acknowledging guests. The food is bland, even Panda Express has hands down better than this high priced bar food. Went because close to home, big mistake. Never again.

Uncle Yu’s Lafayette is more Americanized than McDonalds - food is awful. Panda Express has more flavor and it isn’t even Chinese food (Chinese inspired). It's as though their go-to market is Rossmoor - no spice, only bland food like hospital food. Do not waste your money here.

Went there for Mother’s day 2023. Extremely disappointed in the rude service and the food. The portions were tiny, with very little meat. We asked the server, who responded rudely. She refused to bring out buns with the pecking duck, even though the menu said it was included. I felt ripped off and thrown aback when I asked the waiter for the buns, and she said they weren’t provided, even though this was explicitly mentioned in the menu. Overpriced and very rude service. Would not be returning here. It’s a shame because I used to really like this restaurant many years ago.

If I have a good experience with a restaurant, dining in or takeout, it's because most of the dishes I order are very good or better. The opposite is also true, as was the case last weekend at Uncle Yu's, which used to come very highly regarded a couple years ago. That memory drove me to pick it for an unusual night with takeout. Not going to do that again. Not until I'm sure the quality has improved. Orange beef, my all-time fav at any Chinese restaurant, was a greasy pile of beef chunks with nary an orange flavor in site. Threw leftovers away. The pork fried rice, another staple for me, was flavorless. Threw leftovers away. Pot stickers were a doughy mess with little pork stuffing which I forced down. I luv leftovers from Chinese restaurants. I've never thrown them away. I've always reveled in the day-old flavors being even better that when the meal is just-cooked. This was an all-time low for me . . .

Ordered takeout spicy scallops and hot and sour soup and wonton soup. The wonton soup was good. The scallops smelled and tasted so strongly of seafood gone bad that I threw the entire container out after 1 bite. The hot and sour soup was overly thick, oily and missing most of the tofu, pork, mushrooms, etc. that one expects with hot and sour soup - it was brown soup with a few unrecognizable bits. This is the third time I've had horrible food here. Not sure why Lafayette residents like it - maybe because three generations have gone here and they've never eaten at another Chinese restaurant? They are very fast for takeout.
