Opinions de Mama Riso's Restaurant Lake George
Great dining experience ,outstanding food combined with a pleasant staff accommodating to your specific dining needs makes Mama Riso's a must stop for myself and family during our frequent trips to Lake George. I especially like the variety of their menu consisting of their outstanding home made pasta, veal, chicken and seafood entries served along with warm bread.
I cross the street from a bad experience at Barnsider BBQ restaurant and I don't regret. These is one of the best Italian I had visited so far. Everything my wife and I had was good. We had Nova as our waitress and she was really good and pleasant. We started with the calamari, my wife had the penne a la vodka, I had scallops. We defiantly recommend the lemon and orange desserts
We were in town for one night and stopped here for dinner on a whim. The parking lot was almost full, which is always a good sign. The staff were extremely friendly as soon as we walked in. There was a 15 min wait for our table, so they offered us drinks at a small bar. We asked for their recommendations and were not disappointed. Started with the minestra, which was fantastic! Then we had the veal sorrentino and the dinner special seafood fra diavolo. Both were extremely good! Even our daughter's spaghetti was delicious. The only negative was the size and location of the bar. It only had three seats, and it's right next to the kitchen door, so you have to duck to the side while wait staff come by with large trays. Honestly, other than that, we couldn't say a bad thing about this place and will definitely be back next time we're in town!!
Lovely little place, good food, great wait staff, yummy bread. The portions are good sized, and I love that they offer gluten free pasta. Their desserts are to die for. And I love eating on the enclosed porch. Will definitely return.
Highly recommend starting with the Tea Amo, a refreshing martini made with sweet tea vodka and lemoncello. My server Anna was not only polite and kind, but also very knowledgeable when replying to the questions I had. Time after time I get great food, great service, and a great environment to dine in. I highly recommend the Chicken Scarpariello with homemade linguini. The sauce is to die for and the chicken is always tender. If you’re looking for seafood this is also the spot for you, the menu has a plethora of options ranging from shrimp, to scallops, to lobster. All in all this will always be a go to spot for me. Great food, great service, and owners that care.
A wonderful & warm establishment. We dined for dinner and truly enjoyed ourselves. I loved the ravioli. The bread was fresh too and who doesn't love a fresh started salad with Italian dressing. Thanks for a great dinner!
Good every time we go! The Homemade linguini & desserts are addicting!!! We've started ordering take out when we're in a rush & it always hits the spot. One of the best values in Lake George Village.
Quality old school Italian/American food. These folks still take the time to make things instead of buying them. I like the choice of seafood and veal items. Modest, but very nice wine selection. Great comfort food that harkens to a bygone era. Family friendly, nice patio in summer.
The food is always exceptional and authentic. The ambience is relaxing. The staff and owners are immensely kind and friendly. Always make a point to go whenever I’m in town. Strongly recommend making this a staple of your Lake George go-to’s.
My husband and I went for our anniversary dinner, and we arrived really late, and ate the most wonderful meal we've had in Lake George so far! We were greeted and seated, within moments of entering, in a cozy and elegant dining area. Our drinks, soup/salad and entrees were delivered with perfect timing. The bread is authentic, which isn't always the case with Italian restaurants. Listen, there are BBQ joints that are great all over the place, but this was our best meal here. This IS the place for a wonderful family meal or romantic dinner.
It has to be the best Food in all of lake George. The staff was kind and courteous. And when I asked for chef to come out to tell him how good it was he was there and very thankful. I would go back over and over again. Best food I had on this trip. Me and my husband are from NY by Brooklyn and this is the best food right up there with that. Great experience
Amazing food, amazing staff!! Best water I’ve ever had at a restaurant!!! No joke. The vibes are incredible very cozy family restaurant, highly recommend if you’re in the area. Great dessert as well. 10/10 would recommend. A must visit while in Lake George. Looking forward to eating there again. All the food my table got was amazing. Best food in Lake George. We were also seated immediately!
Food is excellent! I had the Penne with grilled chicken. They gave a very generous portion , my husband had Veal Sorrentine, excellent! My granddaughter had tortellini, also very good. Our waitress Roxanne was awesome. She went back to the kitchen to give us heated bread because my husband had asked. We didn't expect to get it.
We had dinner here last night. I have nothing but great things to say about this place. The food was delicious. I had the Chicken Scarp and my husband had the Manicotti. The portions were great for the price and i left the restaurant full and even had leftovers. The soup was super tasty full of vegetables and pasta and the bread was warm and yummy! The service was spot on as well. Super friendly family restaurant. Will definitely dine here again and soon!
Delicious 🇮🇹 food, skilfully prepared and delivered so well! I absolutely loved my server Dana, she really made my experience there special and gave me the best recommendations ♥️
I absolutely love Mama Riso’s food and atmosphere. I look forward to a fantastic meal there weekly (San Reno is my favorite) and they never disappoint. The owners treat you like family and their passion for this business shows and everything they do.
We visit Mama Riso's every time we visit Lake George. The food is always very good. This restaurant has been in business a long time and it shows with the consistency of good quality food!
We were on vacation with 7 adults and 3 little ones. I called at 4:30 to reserve a table for 6pm. They said not a problem, we'll find you a table. The food was excellent and the prices were very reasonable. All those people with apps and alcoholic drinks was 300 bucks! I highly recommend it!!
What a gem!!!! If you're in the Lake George area, or just want a nice drive. This is The Best (IMHO) Italian restaurant in this region. Friendly, accommodating, and a true step into the past. Try it.
The food was excellent. Our waitress Katie was attentive and nice.
The best dinner we had in Lake George! We enjoyed the calamari and bruschetta appetizers before our dinners of veal sorrentino and shrimp and scallops Florentino. Atmosphere and service were perfect. We also enjoyed the signature drink called Sinibaldi. Best restaurant in Lake George!
Absolutely fantastic! From walking in to walking out, the environment was cozy and homey, food was beyond delicious, and the portions were epicly sized. DEFINITELY make a reservation, they open at 6pm, by 530pm the parking lot was full. Don't bother trying to just stop in and see if there is an open table. I called around 430 or 5 and got a reservation for 6, so you should definitely start calling around 4 that day, if not the day before to ensure you get to experience this. This restaurant makes very authentic Italian dishes. My family and I will be back many more times.
Don't let yourself miss out on an excellent experience just because the place doesn't look big and shiny from the road - I almost did and learned from it. Both the food and service were outstanding. It was probably my luck that there were no children in the dining room at the time, adding to the general ambiance feeling warm, inviting, and calm. Drink specials were tasty and not so overdone that the descriptions scared you away from wanting to try one. Three out of the four dishes ordered at the table were specials that incorporated seafood and hit their mark. I admittedly have the palette of a four year old and ordered fettuccine alfredo with chicken; to my surprise, they even found a way to make this one of the best examples of the dish I've had the pleasure to encounter. Everyone shared a tiramisu to round out the meal, the entrées were filling enough lol. The entire outing was excellent and left nobody wanting anything. Our server was appropriately attentive and polite, the space was clean, and food presentation was timely. 5 🌟
I read some of the reviews before going to Mamas and I was reluctant to go. As I am standing at the entrance with my family for about 10 minutes without even being greeted, my wife says " let's go elsewhere the reviews spoke about the lack of service" I said let's give it a chance. Its post covid and i hope they are just short staffed. Soon after we were seated. Waiter was good eventhough he seemed to be rushing through the specials and questions about the menu. It was not super busy for him to be like that but he was good. Food was very good. Tasted fresh and well seasoned. The place was a bit pricey but I would recommend and I will be going back.
When I lived in Queens NY, I always traveled to Mama Riso’s! Now that I live in Arizona, I’m going back to visit soon and this is one of the restaurants I’ll be visiting a lot. Those clams casino are to die for. My husband and I used to order 4 dozen for the two of us and no regrets🥰🤣, besides dinner! Totally worth it!
We stopped here because another restaurant nearby wouldn't take walk ins at all with no reservation..but here they were happy to seat us with no reservation. Lots of spacious seating inside One of the better meals I have had in awhile. We started with zucchini blossoms..soooooo good! I had the veal picatta which was very good...came with a side of pasta w/red sauce..I'd prefer to have the picatta sauce. My husband had the special which was a t-bone steak..huge and cooked perfectly! I would definitely recommend going here. Prices were good..large portions good service and plenty of parking and close to the Village.
My daughter and I happened upon Mama Riso's on our way to UVM and we are so glad we did. It is as good as any fine Italian bistro in Manhattan. Without a doubt the best clams casino and tiramisu we have ever had and the pasta, as well as the service were incredible. I don't remember the name of my drink, but it was gin, lemon juice, cucumber and basil.... and it was delicious. We will be talking about this meal for a long time.
My friend and I came here after we had a terrible experience at another restaurant, and we were not disappointed! The staff was very friendly, and the food was fantastic! A nice, quiet environment. I ordered shrimp scampi (something I never order) and I was glad I did! Definitely recommend!
Amazing food!! We had the garlic bread, fettuccine Alfredo with chicken, and shrimp scallops and crab in spicy marinara. Meals came with minestrone and lots of Parmesan cheese. We didn’t leave anything on our plate! Service was just as exceptional!!
Our family & friends had mom's 80th birthday party dinner here and were met with kindness and professionalism both on the phone for reservation & in person at thr dinner. We were served by the owners themselves. Our party was handled with so much love and consideration. Thanks to them we will definitely come back for more and highly recommend them to others as Mama Risos is the best place to go in Lake George.
Very relaxed atmosphere. Authentic Italian food. Veal was out of this world. So much better than other Italian places here on the Lake. We will be back again and again.
Called in a To Go order! They are Always Super Friendly and Cover it all when it comes to go orders! All of our meals where Delicous. I always look forward to getting a Great Authentic Italian Meal at Mama Risos Looking forward to getting back there Soon!
Was amazing first time there. We were all (4) pleased with our waitress fresh warm bread minestrone soup delicious and our entrees were very satisfying. Ahort staffed not their fault but worth the wait. Owner very friendly will return next teip
Old school italian joint with great food and affordable prices especially for Lake George. The staff is very prompt, friendly and attentive. The menu is large and has a lot of classic dishes and they have a lot of seafood options which for pescatarians is great. The portions are large and you can tell the food is fresh and made to order. I ordered the Seafood Fra Diavolo which they ask how spicy you want it and I am a spice lover so I said extra spicy which it did not disappoint. Came out piping hot and spicy, I could not stop eating the sauce. The entrees all come with a choice of soup or salad which mine also came with linguine but I substituted it for a side of sauteed escarole. My mother ordered the lasagna and minestrone which she said was excellent especially the sauce which she asked for a side to go with her leftovers because it was that good. My late father was a big fan of this establishment and now I know why since he was an old school italian and very picky about his food especially seafood fra diavolo. This place is a must if you want authentic and a relaxed atmosphere with wonderful music serenading you while you dine
I've always wanted to eat here and never did for 25 years. Finally I made it there with my wife. I can't remember the name but I had a seafood platter with marinara sauce and macaroni. For the appetizer we had eggplant. The dessert was homemade Italian cheesecake and tiramisu with two cappuccinos. Everything was delicious 😋. The staff was very friendly and very accommodating. I am Italiano and grew up with great ethnic food in New York City. Mama Riso's is an authentic Italian restaurant with awesome food and a relaxing atmosphere. 🍹
Great little spot in Lake George really good Italian food, good service. Nice atmosphere, not over top, just right. I had the salad special. I was in the mood for mozzarella and tomatoes with some balsamic dressing. I did try the other plates in my group and all we're very good. I would recommend this place to someone traveling to Lake George.
Nice relaxing restaurant. Good service. Lasagna was very good. Seafood with pasta special was loaded with mussels, lobster and sea scallops in a delicious sauce. Drinks were good but pricey and no prices on the menu. I would recommend.
Great Italian food right by lake George. Probably the best in the area. I always go here when I come up for dinner. It is kinda pricey, $22. For 2 shrimp, 2 scallops and about as much pasta as a child portion would normally have which was a special for the day. I know now not to get the specials. The regular meals are usually bigger portions, but the food is good and have never had any issues with the service either.
Thank You for a wonderful Anniversary dinner! My husband and I loved the food. Absolutely delicious! And the atmosphere was beautiful! Our waitress was very friendly and helpful with her drink and food suggestions. Great Anniversary!
Overall a great experience. Unfortunately our calamari was over cooked, and chewy but still had good flavor, garlic bread very good, mussels cooked perfectly, very tender. Veal piccatta great flavor lots of capers, lasagna also very good. Chicken française was cooked well, very tender. The lemon sauce could of been a tad more lemony. Desserts were very good, good portion of tiramisu very flavorful.
We have been to this italian place before post and pre pandemic. Went here on 7/25/2022 with my family on our last day of Lake George vacation. First off, there was a line at the door, as someone reserved a party of 9, but got seated right away as soon by a passing server. the party of 9 got sat, and then we were a party of 3. They did put us by several other people, now i was okay with that, but some others may want some room between them and others just to be cautious. Server did take a while to greet us, but that is okay as we were looking at the menu anyways. We got waters, ginger ale, and an orange italian soda which my mom said was okay. We ordered as follows: i got the Ciuppino which was scallops, clams, mussels, and shrimp with pasta, my dad got the seafood fridivo medium, and my mom got veal parm. Our meal came with salad or soup, and kudos to Sarah our server for knowing the specials, and all the soups- as well as remembering my dressing on the side. Bread was good, salad was good, and my food was very good! i ate all my mussels, and clams, as well the pasta. The pasta is a small portion tho but i liked it because i can focus on the other food and not worry about a pound of pasta over it. pricewise was okay. Hopefully will be back next year!
The service was excellent and all three members of our party enjoyed their meals. The faire is traditional Italian, and it does not miss. As someone who is local , I appreciate that they are open on Mondays and into the off season. Reservations recommended. Free parking lot available on site. Would highly recommend, just be aware of menu options and prices before arriving. The menu has clearly marked vegetarian options and spicy menu options. Had a great time!
Nice place, our server was new but great. We had to wait several minutes to be seated. I ordered the special Sea Bass with green beans and spaghetti. The fish was great, cooked well but it had way too much garnishings, I just shoveled it off. The beans had a taste like burnt plastic that ruined the spaghetti too. It seems they may have been overmicrowaved in a plastic bowl maybe. I told my server but there was no concern or discount. I don't think it was worth the $30 price tag. My friend had a $20 pasta dish and was happy with it. The prices are a bit high for the quality, as might be expected at a resort area.
The food is soo good. But our service was very slow. For example 20 mins for a drink order. We ordered appetizers and everything came out within 5 mins after waiting for like 45mins. We were never told specials like everyone else got. The food and atmosphere were great and so was the host that greeted us when we walked in
Good food, fairly reasonable prices. 3.7% more if youbuse a cc or debit card, not really a big deal, but be prepared. Gnocchi was good, ravioli were excellent. The mussell, both fra Diavlo and wine/butter were excellent. Save that bread to soak up the fra Diavlo sauce! 75.00 for 2, including dessert and coffee.
Portion sizes seemed small while the prices were a little steep but I guess that's getting food in Lake George. We asked if they could include some plates and silverware in our pick up order and really appreciated that they did. We would be willing to give this place another shot eating in the restaurant vs taking out. Need to remember cash to avoid the almost 4% card fee.
While visiting Lake George, we decided to eat at Mama Riso as recommended by a few locals. Our server,Roxanne, was attentive and friendly. I had the seafood fra diavolo and the hubby had chicken parmigiana which we both really enjoyed. The pasta is made onsite and the seafood was plentiful. For dessert we had the homemade Italian cheesecake which was fresh and creamy. When I visit again, I will be sure to stop by.
This place was busy because there was a family party happening in the side room. We were only 2 of 2 other people here, but the season was ending (we were here to experience fall foliage) and most of the restaurants were not open. The food was so so and I've had better. It was mostly what non Italians think Italian food should taste like.
The food was okay. Average Italian, nothing special. Found it odd when the waitress asked if we wanted the regular linguine or the fresh linguine for $4 extra. Also, they served what was said to be gelato, but it was not creamy, only frostbite and covered in a mound of spray can whipped cream. And the thing that was most odd was that to be seated, we were walked through a room where there were children's shoes all over the floor. Last, in a space on the wall above our table, was a bottle of PVC cement.
Went here for valentines day dinner. The place was packed. The service was prompt. Salad small, but fresh. The food was not bad, but certainly not anything special. I believe the food is mostly frozen premade portions.. They say hand cut veal. Well not by them that is for sure. The veal was tasteless and tough. The breading thick and soft, not crispy in the least. The sauce for the Veal Parmigiana was lacking in flavor and watery. The Shrimp Scampi was not bad , but 1 of the shrimp were soft and off tasting. We will not go back. I noted they respond to the good reviews, but never the critical ones which are the majority of reviews. This explains their lack of improvement the last few years by reviewers. Too expensive for Diner quality food.
Been vacationing in Lake George for over 50 years, my family every year ate there this year I had taken my girlfriend an her parents there for there 35 anniversary and I'm sorry I did the food was not that great an very small portions an totally over priced. After I bragged about this place to them it was a far cry from the standard that it used to be!! I hope they can do better because at 1 time it was a joy to have fine Italian food.
I liked it a little, it's not bad, what I didn't like was that the forks and knives were dirty and they gave them to us as clean ones. We asked for others and they were the same, so we no longer asked for them to be replaced.
Ordered the special of the day, a Porterhouse Steak, wasn't cooked right. Ordered med and was black and blue rare. Food was cold. I was shocked it wasn't busy in the restaurant at all. Waitress failed refill our drinks, when I asked for mine, she never bothered to ask the other person's drink. Extremely slow process from ordering to waiting for the bill. To be honest wasn't impressed. I would give it another try because the garden eating area looked super cozy.
Food is ok. I ordered penne al'vodka which came with a soup or salad, I choose the salad. I ordered my dinner al'dente, with a side of meatballs. One cherry tomato and sparce lettuce. The dressing was supposed to be on the side which is was not. Way too much dressing on the salad for the lack of lettuce that was served. As my meal came out the waitress told me the kitchen couldn't cook my pasta al'dente so they decided to give me rigatoni. Just be honest and tell me you already have the penne pasta pre cooked. The meatballs were the size of tiny golf balls. Total for my dinner, $27, and I didn't get what I ordered. My husband ordered the lasagna, not a good size portion either. His salad or should I say lack of was worse than mine. Needless to say we will not be here again.
We were definetly disappointed on our last visit. I made reservations for outdoor dining since we have always enjoyed the patio dining when we go. When we arrived the patio area was not set up nor tables were cleaned. We also noted the area had not been landscaped/maintained as usual...weeds etc. .definitely lacked what we experienced the past 5 years. Our server was the owner and shes usually on her game but not this particular night. The salad plates were left on our table (never removed) when our main course came out. We asked for salt and pepper and they came out with a drinking glass with salt and pepper packets like McDonald's has. A bit tacky for what we were paying. The potions were not what we experienced in the pass. I apologized to my son since we raved about it and stated how disappointed I was. Honestly we will never go back nor will I recommend it to my friends at the Adirondack Nationals event.
The food wasn't bad, but it's priced as though it should be better than it is. The time to take our orders and to get our food was way too long. We sat down at 6:45 and didn't leave until 9:00, and that was just doing a normal order of drinks, salad, entre. Not sure what other options are around as I'm just a visitor, but I'd consider elsewhere at these prices.
Both our dishes were impressively bland. One dish was simply undercooked. The service was quite good, which is why I gave a 2nd star; one more than the lowest possible score. I don't leave reviews often, but did hoping that others wouldn't make the same mistake we did. Our car bottomed out trying to leave the parking lot, icing on the cake of a wasted evening.
Terrible dining experience!! My wife and I have always wanted to try this restaurant. We decided to try it for our anniversary, it was extraordinarily unpleasant!! The lasagna was not individually baked, it appears that a large portion is made and then a plate is individually heated up. It had little or no consistency and fell apart as soon as it is cut. The serving plate is gigantic, yet the food appears small. I ordered a glass of wine with the meal It came after I had finished my entree. Not worth eating here, try another Italian restaurant.
Very young and inexperienced wait staff , not their fault the owners didn't train them properly. They charge an extra fee to use a credit card which is absolutely ridiculous. Many businesses are trying to get by but I haven't seen a single other restaurant pass that cost off to the customer, ESPECIALLY when menu prices are already off the chart for the quality of food and the very stingy portion sizes on the soup and entrees . The restaurant itself is quite pleasing to the eye and the wait staff was pleasant , just not good at their jobs . All in a all an extremely generic Italian fair for higher than average prices .
I ordered my meal with homemade linguine. My meal came out with plain spaghetti. I asked the waiter about it and he said that the meal was correct and since my wife also ordered the homemade linguine, I asked why it was different and he said hers was fettuccine and dismissed the problem. I asked him to check and he came back and said it was regular linguine. He tried to correct it and came out with a bowl of plain homemade linguine with nothing on it. I asked for sauce since the sauce, clams, and shrimp had been sitting there getting cold, but he brought out plain sauce. I asked for the manager. We stated why wasn’t the dish remade? She came out and said she would prepare it again. She took the old dishes away. She brought a new meal out but it appears that they just put together the same food and microwaved it. The clams were shriveled up and the shrimp was stringy and tough (what happens when microwaved). They threw some garnish on it to no avail. It was terrible.
The service was decent but we were really disappointed in the food. The pasta (fettuccini and penne) were definitely NOT homemade. The vodka sauce was awfully thin and runny and not very good. The Alfredo sauce was also runny and not creamy smooth like it should be also the sauces lacked seasoning. I added the shrimp to my Alfredo. They were cooked well but they charge $8 for 4 little shrimp. I never add salt at a restaurant but all the food was a little bland. The arincini balls were cold in the middle they weren’t fully cooked or must have been previously frozen and not thawed all the way. Also the deserts are definitely NOT homemade. On the front of the desert menu it tells you where they order them from and most are typical frozen or previously frozen desert options. The salad was just lettuce, one slice of tomato and 2 olives. (The salads came out with olive juice on the sides, kinda gross!). The bread was good very fresh and warm but it wasn’t served with olive oil dip. They also charge extra to change the sauce if you want vodka sauce instead of red sauce. The table next to ours I heard the waitress bring out a “treat” for the bread but we didn’t get that (different waitress). The service was decent. The table that came in after us was served before us, though, no big deal. We were quite disappointed in the food. BRING CASH IF YOU COME HERE THEY CHARGE A CREDIT CARD SERVICE Fee, which they don’t tell you about in advance. I mean It’s not a huge service charge but still. There’s gotta be better Italian places around Lake George!
We used to enjoy this place, but the food and service have declined recently. We visited last week, and found the food to be mediocre without the attention to detail the chef used to pay🙃. Seafood Provençal was just so so. The scallops should've been seared and weren't and it came over a bed of pasta with a watery sauce. The tortellini Alfredo was equally insipid: tiny tortellini out of a bag, but worst of all they were very, very stingy with the Alfredo sauce – there was hardly any and it made for a dry dish with what should've been a creamy sensation. The bread basket contained bread that had a very old and recycled taste to it. It was not fresh-tasting and definitely re-toasted. The squash blossom appetizer was very good though. Also disappointing is the service, as well as the fact that the place was very inadequately air-conditioned and stuffy. Our waitress was polite enough, but not very attentive, and the owner was helping out in the dining room, but never interacted with customers or even acknowledged them. Later, when we left, the owner and the hostess both ignored us and continued their chitchatting at the bar, never being polite enough to say, 'Goodnight, thank you for coming.' Needless to say, with mediocre food prep, and aloof attitudes from the staff, we did not feel very appreciated as customers and won't be back.
Liked our waiter was very nice and efficient. The food however wasn't even hot it was barely warm and I couldn't even finish my food. I ate just enough that I didn't feel like I completely wasted my money...... Hate to say it in this world. If you send food back you never know what's going to come back so I usually don't complain or send food back.
Spending the weekend in Lake George for our 3rd year anniversary. We chose Mama Risos for our anniversary dinner. I had the shrimp scampi which was virtually flavorless. My wife had the chicken Parm. The sauce was watery and tasteless, and the noodles cold. $20+ a plate !! We ate without complaining and paid the $83.00 bill. Disappointed
I really wanted to like this place. First though, I tried to get onto the website to look at the menu and apparently it was not working. I tried calling to see if we needed a reservation but no one answered. I tried calling for a few days before our trip. They had some toys for the kids, which was nice, but the toys were located right in front of the entrance to the kitchen so the servers had to walk over the kids. The toys were also right next to the door to the patio, so all the customers coming in had to walk around the kids. They had a party of about 10 people set up right next to the kids toys as well so they could only play until that table got there so as not to disturb them. It was a little bizarre the way it was set up. The server was very nice, but she didn't really know the menu. She had to ask the kitchen for almost everything we asked about. As for the food. Absolutely awful. I ordered fettuccine bolognese. It was meat sauce. Bolognese should be cooked for at least 4 hours and finished with a touch of cream. This was not bolognese and quite honestly just as boring as everything else here. The lasagna was bland with no flavor. The Alfredo was so terrible I couldn't even finish the 1 noodle I tried. I would not go back there. I only gave 2 stars because it kept the kids occupied for a little while and the server was nice.
Service was okay, food was terrible. The only decent thing was the bread. Most of us ordered the chicken Parm. The chicken was deep fried, small portions. Sad salads with canned green beans and way too much dressing. The fettuccine Alfredo tasted like it was drenched in only butter. I would avoid this place.
Waitress was nice. Honestly she was the Best part of the night. Fried calamari was overcooked. My dinner salad was lettuce with 4 beans, 2 rings of a plum tomato and 2 black olives. My entree was chicken fransais. Chicken was undercooked and came with a thick brownish colored sauce that had a mild lemon flavor. I order the chicken fransais all the time and this by far has been the worst. My boyfriend has the antipasto salad platter. The pruzzito was terrible. Very chewy and unappealing. All dishes looked and smelled great. Taste... Well... Definitely not my kind of Italian. I heard other tables were very happy with their meals, but that was not my case. I can see the reason for the less than 4 star reviews. Will not be returning.
Be careful of this place, they hand you menus with different pricing on them. On one menu my wife had an entree was 22 on the menu I had the entree was 24 plus they charge you a fee for using a credit card. Clearly they are trying to recoup money from the Covid 19 shut down months. Avoid this place like the plague, what a rip off ! And they have such a young wait staff they never asked if we wanted dessert or coffee!
Misleading reviews & advertisement: Made 6pm reservation for 2 & ordered their Special: Seafood Fra diavlo (3 med shrimps, 4 clam, 7 cold shriveled mussels) in watery hot sauce $28, Sangria red (served w/lemon & lime) pitcher $39 no reg. fruits. Restaurant was not even crowded. We waited 1/2 hr for our pitcher of sangria, dinner was disappointment. Pizza place is 2x better than is so call Italian restaurant. Will not recommend & will not go back. Their website was over rated.
We were seated right away, it took 20 minutes for the waitress to take our order,45 minutes to get our food, and when we finally get it was cold. We had to ask one of the workers where the waitress was. As soon the waitress did bring our food, we tomd her of our dissatisfaction she not appligetic, we adked for the check imitately, because we didn't want to wait another 45 minutes to get the check. And she still did not apologize. Horrible...never again.
Food was terrible. My chicken parmigiana was much to deep fried. Asked for extra sauce and cheese but none. Pasta and sauce had no taste. Portions not generous. For dessert they gave me a menu and when I ordered it, I got something different. Waitress said desserts change. Why give me a menu with a picture then? I did not get what I ordered. Service was also not good. I would not recommend this restaurant.
Food was average, but priced as though it should be much better than it is. The time to get our food was way too long although there were a lot of empty tables. They charge an extra 4% if you pay with credit card. Don’t try this place if you have other options.
2018 update: I guess this place can’t afford straws for there drinks anymore! Thank you Starbucks liberals for getting straws removed from restaurants a utensil that has been used since “1888” there are many options other than plastic you could buy if that is what your concerns are. I will not be back as a matter of principle, I come year round more than once a month but I will never go back!!! So good, one of the best Italian restaurants I have been to. Extremely affordable which is always a big plus in this area.
Not a great value. Service was subpar as was the meals. Chicken parmesan was small, veal parmesan was tough and the sauce was bland and watery. Server had no timing in creating a pleasurable experience. Dinners came out 5 minutes after appetizer. Water was left unfilled for most of the meal. My salad serving was tiny could see the bottom of the plate at the start. Warm bread was nice but was served with very hard butter. We weren't even told what the specials were before we ordered. Heard the specials from the server at another table after we ordered. Not busy at all. The server knew we were unhappy but preferred to stay away from us. No signs of owner or management throughout whole meal. This place seemed to be only about making a lot of money for subpar service and food, both quality and quantity. Would not recommend or return.
Went with my boyfriend for our last night of vacation and was hugely disappointed. Our waitress was "new" and we maybe saw her 3 times the whole night. Our salads were sad with 1 cucumber, 1 tomato slice, some sad iceberg lettuce like from a bag, and canned green beans? Our appetizer was OK, fried calamari which was actually hot, however both our meals were lukewarm at best. Pasta tasted like it was from a box, my boyfriend's chicken parmigiana was tough, dry, fatty, and came with the same cavatappi boxed pasta I had. We never got bread for our table, our water was never refilled (we had no other drinks), and service was very slow. We were never informed of specials or anything. Very disappointed. Very overpriced. Staff spent more time visiting with regulars than waiting on other guests.
Terrible experience! The penne al a vodka was pasta sitting in pink water with a few stewed tomatoes thrown in. We nicely expressed our disappointment to the waitress (very nice young lady). As we were leaving the owner's wife told us "There's a lot of other places in Lake George you can go to eat." Believe me, we will be trying all of them, anything not to go back to this place. How rude! I guess she doesn't feel she has to count on repeat business since she gets so many tourists there. Hopefully potential diners read reviews before they go!
My family and I recently visited mama risos and had a terrible experience. When we first got there it took nearly forever to get service and when we finally placed our orders and our food came out, we were extremely dissatisfied. We ordered penne ala vodka and chicken parm and both were terrible. The chicken parm was dry and flavorless and the penne aka vodka was basically soup. The sauce was basically water and wouldn’t even stick to the pasta. When we complained the server wasn’t really sure what to say but took it off our bill. However when we got our bill, they still charged us $8 for the salad that came with the meal. When it was time to pay, the owner (Anna) came over to our table and slapped the bill down with an attitude. When we asked why we were still charged for the salad she responded with “well you ate it didn’t you?”. We proceeded to pay the bill and leave and as we were walking out she yelled over the counter that “there are plenty other places to eat in lake george”. She proceeded to raise her voice at us and tell us there was nothing wrong with her food. I have never seen the owner of a restaurant act this way towards customers and it was extremely unprofessional and embarrassing. Save yourself the trip and go literally anywhere else in lake george but here.
We have been going to this restaurant for years, as my children, grandchildren and I vacation in Lake George often. The waiter was not accommodating, and he made it obvious he doesn’t appreciate children. My daughter chose this restaurant for her 30th dinner, and unfortunately it was a negative experience. The waiter never checked on us during our two and a half hour stay, yet he appeared annoyed when we asked for anything. The manager (possibly owner) was rude and even argumentative towards my daughters when one disliked a drink. We were shocked at how unprofessional she behaved. Needless to say, we will have another birthday dinner elsewhere.
Stay clear of this place. We were never told that they had specials for the night. Our salad was pathetic. Our food came out cold and they had to microwave it to warm up. Only saw our waitress when she took our order, and when she brought the food out about 90 MINUTES LATER. We had two tables. On one table there was 6 people, and on the other there was 5 people. When we received our check they added an 18% tip and said we "the table of 5" were a party of six because we came in together even though we asked for separate checks. When we complained to the manager she refused to remove the tip to allow us to leave what we thought was appropriate for the service we received. Instead she threatened to call the cops if we did not include the amount she was telling us. I could go on and on, but will just say that we will NEVER go there again.
Worst chicken scarpariello I have ever eaten in my life. Consisted of 4 deep fried chicken wings, a cherry pepper, watery brown sauce and a very small piece of sausage. I never write bad reviews, but this place is terrible. The salad sucks and so does the bread. I ate here a few years ago and it was awesome. I really don’t know what happened to this place. Very poor representation of Italian food.
The salad had an old cucumber slice. She offered to bring me another plate, but I decided no to. Then I had veal parmagone, and it had no taste. The meat was tough, and the sauce was watery. I told her, and she offered me spicy sauce. My husband ordered soup, and it came luke warm. Didn't enjoy it at all.
Long story short, this place is a poor attempt at a tourist trap trying to make as much money off of you while providing as little food/quality as possible. Just ask the owner. He will admit to it. I don’t leave reviews for restaurants. Even when I have been unhappy with a place I just don’t go back in the future. This place, however, was so bad that I had to leave a review. Right off the bat the service was extremely slow. In fairness, I will attribute this to the young waitress assigned to our table. It was obvious that she was new, and clearly had not received any training. She was very nice however and was trying. I was also at a large table with 3 families, which isn’t the easiest thing to manage. So this review has nothing to do with her. The menu was fairly limited and very pricey. $27 for chicken scarpiella?? But that was listed as their “house special”, so it has to be good right? Bone in roasted chicken, sausage, cherry peppers, in a rich brown sauce. Sounds good at least. I should have realized we were in for trouble when the house salad arrived. Each salad had some chopped iceberg lettuce, one slice of tomato, two canned black olives, and one slice of cucumber. It was very clear that the restaurant was paying attention to EXACTLY how much food they were giving you. But the salad was decent. Not good, but decent. So we moved on. Then the dinners arrived. Time to eat the restaurant’s “house special”. The best of what they have to offer. For $27. What was in my plate was a few small pieces of chicken that were mostly bone. One piece of sausage that was at most an inch long, one canned cherry pepper, and some spaghetti with three canned black olives on top of it. I don’t usually count the items on my plate, but there was so little of everything on the plate, I wanted to make sure I was not overreacting. Then I looked around to see what everyone else got. One member of the group got linguine with clam sauce, and received a small bowl of pasta with a few clams. Another just ordered tortellini soup. She received a bowl filled barely half way with about 3/4 cup of broth and three pieces of pasta. We thought that this was a mistake and asked for it to be fixed. What was returned was the same three pieces of pasta with another half cup of broth added. A bowl of tortellini Alfredo had 12 pieces for the entire meal. Ultimately, we told a waitress that we were disappointed. The chef/owner eventually came out to speak with us. We explained our issue with the lack of food on the plate given the high price of the dish. None of us had any problem paying a higher price, so long as we received a good amount of food to go along with that price. The chef/owner didn’t argue with us. His response was “look where you are, you are in Lake George I have to make my money.” While that explained the high prices, it did not explain how meager the food portions were. He responded to that by saying that “this was what he served” and that he would give us some more spaghetti if we wanted. By that point it was clear that the both the owner and the restaurant were absolutely sub par and that nobody was going to try and do any better. It was intentional. They will serve you Mediocre food (very little of it) at a very high price, because they just don’t have the skill at cooking or running a restaurant to do any better. You will end up spending a lot of money with very little satisfaction. Eat here at your peril.
My family and I went to this restaurant for family dinner. Our waitress was very nice and that was the only good thing about this place. Our food was inedible, watery and flavorless. The chicken is clearly frozen from a bag and the sauce is canned at best. Even if the prices were reasonable, which they’re not, the food would still not be worth coming here. When we voiced concerns about the food the manager (also the owner), whose name is Anna, did not care to listen, instead she threw our check at us and started raising her voice and saying that her husband is the best chef and there was nothing wrong. As we were walking out she proceeded to scream at us that there are other places to eat. She continued her rampage as we made our way through the restaurant and into the parking lot, other customers seemed concerned at this point. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone, the food nor the aggression and threatening demeanor from the owner is worth it.
So the place is a few blocks from the main part of the town. Which is nice get a break from all the hustle and bustle, we walked in and were greeted with do u have a reservation. I was thinking. Do we need one only one other person in the restaurant. The waitress was excellent. But the food was terrible. I got a side of meatballs 2 is a side. These are frozen meatballs not homemade. I read the story on the back of the menu about the origin of the restaurant, I do not think when they started they used frozen food. My son got chicken franchise 3 very small chicken medallions they sauce was gross as was the other 2 entrees. Fettuccini Alfredo. I don’t like leaving anyone bad reviews but for the cost of the food it should be outstanding especially being in a tourist destination.
So bad. We waited a hour for a table and it was such a waste. Everything was bad, calamari overcooked, soup extremely bland, meatballs had a freezer burnt taste, chicken was like a hockey puck it was so overcooked. The crowd is all tourists. Would never come back. The table next to us caused a huge scene over the bad food. was kinda entertaining.
All 3 of our meals were cold, from the pastas to the steak. A-1 steak sauce had a best use bt date of 12/31/2017!! The waitress was very nice and said the owner would come over. After 20 min. we asked for the check. Owner came, so insincere..heard you had a problem? Want a dessert? No apology. We're tourists and they don't care if we come back, which we won't
The service was less than desirable. Waitress annoyed when we asked for bread & charged without informing us that there would be a charge for additional bread. Not all drinks were brought out as should. Had to ask twice for a drink for one of us & waitress admit to not having written it down for either time. Beer was not cold. The food quality was definitely not worth the prices. Most of us did not enjoy our meals. All dishes lacked flavor. It was our first time at at this establishment and will be the last. We truly cannot give anything but one star.
Only giving 1 star because as the other 1 star reviewers state the waitress did a great job, however this is where the positive ends. $30 for Calamari and you get a very very small portion of Calamari, small portion of macaroni and a very tiny soup. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? On Long Island where the rent and taxes are high for $8.00 LESS you got a gigantic portion of Calamari and macaroni. They got me this time but I will never go back. Guess this is why on a Saturday night at 6 PM you were lucky if you can get a chess game going. Place was empty. Wake up there is a reason why on Labor Day weekend on the main strip in Lake George your place was empty. Feel bad for these young waitresses and waiters who depend on tips to help them make money. Even though the portions were disgraceful because the waitress was very nice we left a 28% tip. (not including price for one drink) It wasn't her fault.
This is the last place you should go to eat while visiting Lake George. Between our rude waitress who is the owners wife, to the actual owners attitude when I called to fix my issue, to the overpriced inedible food, this restaurant failed all of my expectations. Throughout our dinner with my party of 15 (it was empty when we arrived at 5:30pm), the waitress had an attitude when we asked questions regarding the menu, prices and recommendations. We saw her 3 times throughout our time there, our busboy was attentive and took care of her slack to serve us. She finally took our orders after sitting for an hour as well as forgetting to take my sisters order. The chicken parm was barely edible to eat. The cheese was hardened over the chicken, which was also too tough to even cut with flavorless watered pasta sauce. The fettuccine alfredo had chicken that tasted as if it was premade perdue chicken in a bag at the store. My check was split between 3 cards, the waitress put on our receipts a suggested tip of 20% for each and only became friendly when she handed us our checks to go. I took a picture of our receipts and sure enough as we looked at our banks today this restaurant adjusted their tips and took $15+ from all of our cards. When we called to have this corrected, she began yelling and said she would not give us our money back forcing us to report this as fraud as they took a total of almost $60+ from us without our permission. This place doesn’t make enough business so the business they do have, they try to charge every penny they can get. A fee for using card, a sharing plate fee of $9, etc. Besides the obvious outdated condition of the restaurant and it’s mold smell, do yourself a favor and stick to any other restaurant in Lake George. The reviews on this place should’ve been my warning but I tried to give it a chance.
Three strikes, you’re out! My husband and I went to the restaurant at my suggestion because years ago I had a good experience there. I am embarrassed to say that I was horribly mistaken. New owner? Strike number one, my husband ordered a strip steak Pizziola, we didn’t find out until the bill arrived that they charged him three dollars more for a ribeye. When we questioned the waitress she said they were out of strip steak so they gave him a ribeye. We both have plenty of experience with ordering out, and know the difference. He did not order, or receive a ribeye. Nor was he offered something else. Strike two, I ordered a chicken dish which was described as having bone in chicken. I received chicken wings and pasta! I ate one or two wings, and took the rest home. When the bill came and we noticed that my husband was overcharged, we approach the waitress who said she would adjust the bill. When she gave us back the bill with our credit card charge, it was higher than before she adjusted it. We questioned her about that, and she told us that there was a surcharge for using your credit card! When I went back to the table and mentioned that to my husband, A nearby patron who claim to be a friend of the owner said that it’s posted on the door. We looked at the posting on the door on the way out, and there is nothing about a surcharge for using a credit card, in fact it says there is a discount for paying with cash! Again three strikes, you’re out! See photo for my “bone-in” chicken. Oh, and btw, I called the restaurant to speak with the manager, our waitress was put on the phone. She claimed to be the owner, I told her that I didn’t believe that our waitress was he owner, so she put her husband on the phone, who told me he was the “chef” and told me that he gave me half a chicken! He swore they didn’t even serve chicken wings, then suggested I call my lawyer. I hardly ever give reviews, good or bad, but this guy is unbelievable. He is stealing from patrons, and giving our area a bad name. Mama Riso, if there is such a person, would roll over in her grave if she knew her name was being defiled in such a manner.
