There food is always fresh and better than most restaurants in San Antonio hands down
Eat here often when I am at the Thousand Trails RV facility. Great Mexican and American food. I like the breakfast all day too. Friendly staff make you feel right at hime. Important to me as I usually dine alone!
Excellent food at great prices! This was our first time at this restaurant. We ordered breakfast tacos and they were delicious. We will definitely be back the next time we come to Medina Lake.
What a gem! The Carne Guisada was phenomenal and the Super Mexican Plate was delicious and plentiful. We are stuffed and have to take the dessert to go.
I love going here. Food is awesome! Service is great! And the price won't kill your budget! I've been going here for a good while now. Definitely worth it!!! Popular and definitely could use more room/tables! Went there today and Mac (never seen him there before) suggested a different plate today to change things up.. oooohhh. Sooo good!!! Mac was SLAMMED with a lot of customers today but with the attention of service he provided to everyone you would've never known it. Great Food and the service was already great but Mac definitely is taking it to a higher level!
We work the fireworks stand right past the restaurant so we have ordered tacos lately from here and let me tell ya, the food is great! Good prices, friendly staff, and excellent food. I highly recommend the coffee ☕️
Even on a busy Sunday we were seated immediately and food was made quickly. Our server was friendly and even a different server checked on us at one point. Love the small town atmosphere.
Delicious breakfast! Probably the best chilaquiles plate I've ever had. Pancakes were awesome too. Everyone was friendly and the service was excellent. We'll be back.
Fine Mexican food, great portions, great service and reasonable prices. Often busy on weekends and breakfast time but worth a few minutes wait. Staff is friendly and courteous. If you want something cooked to order, that is no problem either!
The decor is truly Mexican. They have outside dining if you want. The food is sooo good. The only thing that disappointed me was my Margarita, I should have asked for a Top Shelf Margarita, this is not a deal breaker as my husband and I love the food!!
We have been eating here for years. very clean and really good food. we love that it's close to our lake house. service is always great. it does get crowded because its soooo good.
Delicious Tex-Mex food. Good value. Great service. Full bar. Ice cold beer. Great iced tea. Lunch specials. Breakfast available all day.
We travel quite bit. We have eaten at several restaurants in the U.S. we were so please to find such a hidden gem. The food was tasty, the service was spot on and them pricing was not outrageous. We highly recommend this jewel when in the area.
La Cabana has been our go to place for Excellent Mexican Food for over 20 yrs. Family Owned and Operated and we always enjoy coming in and being greeted by our first names. This is my breakfast, lunch and dinner restaurant!!!!
Great Tex Mex dishes. Everything from the delicious breakfast tacos to the absolute best chicken enchiladas verde I've ever eating is prepared to perfection. Friendly, fast and courteous service all at a very reasonable price.
Excellent service and a warm atmosphere
Loved the food, the nice wait staff, and the whole atmosphere. Parking did get a bit crazy but it's so worth a stop!
Nice little place that was clearly a local favorite. We were just passing through but will definitely return the next time we are in the area! The steak ranchero was perfectly seasoned and the ranchero sauce was fresh and house made. The enchiladas and homemade flour tortillas were a hit as well! As others have said the salsa was meh, but I have had a lot worse.
Our waitress was nice and efficient. The service was pretty quick and the food was above average, for reasonable prices. We had a party of 15, so they had to work to get us all together, which they did. Overall experience was very positive. I would recommend this if you like good Mexican food.
The view is nice clean and the waitress are very friendly and know their menu which they make suggestions if you don’t know what you want. The food takes a little longer but we got to understand if their is a lot of people. That’s why you get served chips and hot sauce and your drink. Now the food is getting better. I’ve been coming here for almost 5 years. And it is getting better even though they had to deal with COVID. I’ll like to thank them for having good people that work for them. Hope they keep serving us plenty more years.
I have eaten here with my family ever since I could remember. Me and my husband have moved for the military since then, and nothing brings me back home more than family and food. This is true Tex mex comfort food and I would get these plates shipped to me if I could! All the food here is truly made with love and care! 10/10 best food in my little hometown ❤️
This place has such good food place. It also has great service. It has indoor seating and a beautiful outdoor patio area. They have a full bar and a big case full of cakes and desserts. They are one of the few restaurants that is actually still very affordable.
I don't often get out this way, and a friend of mine took me to this restaurant, and it was great! The staff is very friendly and are quick to refill your drinks, and make sure the food was good! The waitress and the staff earn their keep, at every table! I can see why people who know this place would keep coming back! We came here two days in a row and it was great each time!
After several days of freezing weather in our RV, we had cabin fever and decided to go try this restaurant that was closeby. Our neighbors in the RV park had also recommended it. I ordered the Supreme Mexican Dinner (2 cheese enchiladas, 1 taquito, 1 beef taco, beans, rice, guacamole, and sour cream). My husband had the 2 cheese enchilada dinner. We both substituted queso for the chili sauce that normally comes on cheese enchiladas, and we both drank water. The Tex-Mex food was excellent. The chips and salsa were great. The chips were light and thin, which we love. The place has a sign up needing a busboy and a dishwasher. That part was an obvious need. Almost every table had old dishes, etc on it. The one waitress was busy and we went at 315pm. There were only people at our table and one other. I can't imagine what a busy Friday night service might be like. Our total came to $26.24 plus tip. We would go back. The food was excellent and the server was friendly. We didn't have to wait very long at all for our food.
Went there for supper last night and the food was delicious! We loved the salsa, queso, quesadillas, enchiladas and fajitas. Got cheesecake for dessert and it was super tasty too! Friendly staff as well. Will definitely come back!
We have been eating at La Cabana since it was in the old building. The food has always been gr8. During the transition to the present restaurant there were a few ups and downs as they tried diff chefs/cooks and servers. All of that was worked out long ago and now everything is back on track. Yvonne, Roxy have been around a long time and are excellent servers. The food is excellent and is consistent with good flavor. The current chef/cook does an excellent job. Salsa, pico, flour tortillas are all excellent. Give it a try and I'm sure you'll love it and come back for more. Keep it up La Cabana, food and service is excellent! Roma
Thank God there's a little Mexican cafe out in Lakehills. Busy but friendly staff and good food. 👍
It's a great place with a very nice atmosphere. It even has tables outside to enjoy. The service was great and so was the food. The waitress we had was on top of everything that we needed. My wife, mom and I all enjoyed the chicken fried steak. Next time we go, we all decided to try something different so we can eat off each other's plates, haha. I really suggest trying this place, it was our first time and we loved it and I think you will too.
Great food great family owned Restaurant. Recipe has stayed the same, Great atmosphere, open bar with sports or your choice of channel available. Open front patio with tables and chairs to eat outside waterfall and nice scenery available of the beautiful hill country. Come out and eat here you wont regret you did. I would recommend breakfast hours although breakfast is served all day. ;>
This food was delicious. The steak fajitas and lime chicken were both fantastic. The homemade flour and corn torillas excellent. Our server was the best. I would definitely come here again.
on this Wednesday night. Drop by about 6:45.. if there's an Open table you just sit and there were a few. I was greated immediately by Joslin poliite smiling and pretty. She showed up with chips and salsa. and extremely cold dos Equis.. I ordered and it came out in good time. It was hot and delicious the enchiladas are excellent as well as the puffy taco. It's off of the beaten path. Mostly locals 4 Medina Lake residence. So the prices are still reasonable. If you get the chance. Don't pass this one by .
Always great food for years in business.
Their tacos are amazing. Whether if it's a bean and cheese or fajita , all their plates are totally worth dining in and enjoying. And the cashiers are extremely nice.
We stopped in spontaneously as we always live ❤️ Walked in, and they were definitely busy, rush hour. We didn't wait anytime at all and were greeted with a fast, friendly waitress. She got drinks, chips/salsa and took our order. In no time at all, she delivered an authentic and delicious Mexican dinner to the both of us. Definitely Recommend !!!
Favorite place to go! Great food and best customer service 👌
My wife and I are on vacation and found this place. Right from the get go, super impressed. The atmosphere is relaxed, the staff was on top of everything from drink refills to food being brought out. The food? Delicious, and a great demonstration of the saying “Stick to your ribs!” Will definitely have to try their breakfast.
We are camping at Thousand Trails Medina Lake campground just passing through and decided to eat dinner out. We went to La cabana Cafe before dinner rush hour. The waitress was pleasant and answered our questions about the food thoroughly. The food was served promptly, it was hot and tasted very good. The prices were reasonable. The atmosphere was very pleasant. We had plenty of room to park our dually truck. I would go back to this place to eat again.
My previous review of this place a year ago was terrible but it seems to have taken a turn for the better. Joslyn has been absolutely amazing on my last two visits! Attentive, great service, and great conversation while you wait. (Pretty easy on the eyes too!) Promote this young lady.. Staff matters as much or more than the food. I eat out very often and will now return here entirely because of her and her attitude.
My favorite Mexican restaurant for sure. Service is always great, love the atmosphere and that they have outdoor setting. I love the puffy tacos and they queso is delicious
Great food and reasonable prices. A good place for comfort Mexican food out at the lake.
Great food. Great people. Will go again.
Staff is always so nice, great drinks and delicious food. Pictured is a margarita on the rocks with Don Julio reposado (highly recommend) and the Super Mexican plate.
Love coming here for breakfast. It’s always awesome. Today, I got to come for lunch. Had the enchilada ranchera plate. BEST enchiladas I’ve ever had! Sooo good! Made my husband sweat it was so good, lol. The salsa is so good I could drink it. Service is always excellent as well. Hands down favorite Mexican food in this area.
We been stopping by this place since we started working on a house in goat hill estates. And omg there good has always been delicious. We stop just about every morning. Love it . Tea is so good as well . See u guys tmrw morning!
It's really good here I typically have barbacoa once a week at this location and I usually just pick it up to go
Great place to eat Mexican food. Fast and the food is always hot and delicious!
I stopped by for the first time and was seriously impressed. The tacos were a good size, definitely not stingy, and the asada was packed with flavor. You can really tell they put care into their seasoning and prep. The vibe was welcoming, the service was great, and everything came out fresh. Also, I don’t get why people are complaining about drink prices, it’s the same or even cheaper than what you’d pay at a restaurant in SA. For the quality and flavor you get here, it’s more than worth it.
Very friendly, clean, great food, excellent customer service, fair prices and ……. Their Carne Guisada is AMAZING! That’s my favorite taco and who ever does the cooking is AWESOME! A lot of places will over power the Guisada by using crazy amounts of Paprika, but not this place! I have heard that La Cabana has been in business for many years and I have never heard anyone say bad things about it. 5 stars easy and if visiting the area for whatever reason, I suggest this restaurant over any other.
Saw a bunch of reviews praising the enchiladas so I got the beef ones and they were some of the tastiest I’ve ever eaten. I was full on chips and still managed to leave my plate clean. Not only do you get really good food, you get stellar service from the staff too. Refill after refill on both chips and salsa, receptive to our requests, and very friendly; I walked out with a smile on my face and a stomach full of good food. Definitely stop by, I wish I could come more times to try more plates on their menu.
Update 12/21/23 This is what i think Mama makes when she's at home. Need a great texas meal. Come on down. Oh, I had a Cheese enchilada plate with a shark on it. Best believe I finished my plate. Going back! Cross fingers. 5/2/2021 Picked up food at 1:00. It was packaged properly. The food was hot, with the exception of our cheese and bean. Was served wrong enchilada. Cheese and bean tacos, in my opinion are small and over price. Besides those minor issues. Our food was a hit. Had my 4 year old singing and dancing. Which is a feat in it's self. I was very satisfied with the seasoning of the food. Bill for 2 adults 3 children under 6 years. 33.78 service was top notch.
Hidden Gem here! Great fresh, delicious food! Super fair prices! Friendly, caring, smiling waitstaff. We ate indoors, but there is a beautiful outside area, with a waterfall, lights, palm umbrellas, and a spot where there is live music on fridays and Saturday nights. They serve alcohol and the frozen margarita was delicious and relaxing. Their refried beans were the tastiest we've ever eaten at any Mexican food restaurant. They have other varieties of food besides Mexican. From American burgers, chicken fried steaks to fish and seafood.
Very reasonable prices and plenty of food. Loved the pancakes. The eggs, potatoes, bacon, and beans that came with them were a bit bland, but a little salsa fixed that right up! Btw very good tortillas both flour and corn were excellent!
Molly was right! Need to get this place in social media! Ppl are looking for a short day trip or bikers looking for good food.
Good food & staff...2night the food was sub par to other times, food was extremely greasy and cold. The young waitstaff were very unattentive, placed a 2go order during our meal and they forgot to place it until we were checking out. If we hadn't already paid for it, the 2go order would have been canceled.
Excellent Tex-Mex food, fresh homemade corn and flour tortillas with expendiant friendly service and hill country charm. All the food I've ever had was fantastic and flavorful, great queso, salsa and chips. Too bad they were closed for Sunday lunch. The Men's bathroom toilet did not flush, quite an inconvenient and embarrassing matter the management should repair immediately.
It's a classic pretty good Mexican restaurant and the food is good. Especially the rice ..these guys can sure as heck make some damn good Spanish rice.
This place is a pleasure to go to for Mexican food! My wife was thrilled to see puffy tacos on the menu and she has declared them to be very very good. I went boring with standard enchiladas, beans and rice and they were good but not great. We plan on coming back in a few days so my wife can get the puffy taco plate.
Wonderful place staff is nice food is good. Id come again. Only thing was the waitress didn't come back to check on us again after we got our food I ran out of my drink and I wanted to ask for the green hot sauce. Other than attentiveness after we got our food everything was great!
Delicious salsa! Had a really good pina colada, though their full bar didn't consist of some of the items we were looking for (not a deal breaker whatsoever). Their cilantro lime chicken was a+ but what really sealed the deal for me was their rice.
It was really good. Some of the food could definitely use some more salt and the salsa wasn’t the best I’ve ever had but it wasn’t the worst either. The chips were thin and hot. So good. They are definitely short handed but still did a good job. Food was just a little slow coming out. The Margarita was really good. Not too sweet. Prices were very reasonable. Will definitely return if we’re ever in the area again.
We've had the pleasure to eat here twice- a to go dinner & dining in lunch. Both times were great. Staff was friendly. Food is good. And the environment is nice- clean and charming. I've had Chicken Fajita tacos and a delicious Cilantro Lime Chicken. Great rice. Tasty salsa. Convenient location to meet up in the Hill Country. Between Pipe Creek and Lakehills. On hwy 1383. Gluten free corn tortillas for friends who need them.
Cute place! We ate outside because all the tables were filled up inside, but there was a quick turn around. It was a nice day anyways, so the outside atmosphere was enjoyable. Our waitress was super nice and attentive to us. We ate the enchiladas which were very good, but the taco salad looked excellent! I do recommend this place to anyone who enjoys Mexican food 😋
1st time at a Mexican restaurant eating Mexican food. It was good. Strawberry margaritas was strong. Would definitely return if in the area.
Foods always great with reasonable portions. Plenty of seating indoors and outdoors. Does have a small bar, however we've nor tried any of ybe acholic drinks yet. Most definitely one of our favorite little spots to grab some breakfast at. Tacos are amazing with homemade tortillas, (I'm assuming because they taste like homemade.) Service is always been great and constant. I had pancakes and a bean and cheese taco this last time. Pancakes were the same size as my plate! Were delicious.
7 dollars for a dozen tortillas and a cup of salsa and a 30 minute wait to get them...and not super busy. Food orders placed after mine came out first. The tortillas and salsa are good, but not worth the $$ or the time :/
The service was great, ordered chicken fried steak which looked great but tasted terrible. The fry oil must have turned rancid. They took it back, no problem. The food is great always except for tonight's meal.
Service and atmosphere were great, but the food was only so-so. I didn't like the beans or rice, but the salsas were really good. My husband felt the same way.
9/16 - Chips burnt. Rice and beans very salty. Maybe old oil used as the food had an off taste. Initial order of quesadilla was overcooked and replaced. Cooked better but still an off taste. Very disappointed. Please note that the manager's sister waived our bill. She also advised they have had to change their chip supplier. 8/25-Came a month ago and the food was fantastic.
I'm not a fan of Mexican food. I usually get an egg breakfast served anytime of day so my food review would be on that. Food was good as far as breakfast fare goes. The place was crowded (usually is). Loud. You seat yourself. Service is friendly and good.
The puffy tacos are swimming in grease. It seems like they don't drain the puffy taco meat or shells. There's SO much grease that I haven't ordered in months. We used to order food from them all the time, weekly. I really wish they'd figure out how to properly drain them.
The waitresses was ok, you could tell she almost had to force herself to be nice to you and when you would ask for something she say sure but wouldn’t bring it to you for like 10 minutes. The food is expensive and you hardly get anything, for 1 thin piece of Non expensive steak and a bake potato with no toppings cause each one is extra so you just get butter, it’s $13.00. Honestly never been anywhere else where we got a baked potato and it didn’t come with at least sour cream without an up charge. Very disappointed! But you gotta try places at least once.
I love queso cheese, so why did I get VELVETA that was starting to clump up because it was not mixed with rotel, Tamatoes, peppers, or anything else that mixed in so it would not clump up. Also I ordered sour cream on my tacos, yep, charged for it but didn't get it. My daughter told me not to call and complain because the employees would spit in my food from now on. Well, I can fix that, I just won't go back or maybe I should just call the health department on my next order and have it examined for DNA or other notable contaminants, you can never tell when they will show up. We usually spend about $40.00 @ least. I don't need this place, rather, they should need me and my family, friends, acquaintances, business associates.
Foods not the greatest. Service was good. Margarita tasted watered down. One of the only restaurants close to our house. I'm spoiled going to college in NM and like very limited Mexican food outside of NM.
Not as good as usual. Service was fair at best leaving one person out of 7 with no food while everyone else had theirs and was waiting. Waitress was not very attentive and food was not of the caliber that usually is. Even my guacamole came with dark green on top as if it hadn't even been stirred up to get it back to the lighter color green. Average at best. Disappointed and Confused how it can be so inconsistent.
Slow and chaotic. Party of 5, we waited 20+ minutes to be seated, another 15 minutes to get a bowl of chips and salsa, drinks came 10 minutes later and the order was incorrect. Placed our order for food and waited for almost an hour for the food to arrive, and the order was incorrect. There are too few staff at this place. The waitresses and the bus boy were run off their feet ... too many customers for staff, hence the wait. The food was good and cheap. I hope they fix their staffing issues before it damages their reputation. We came here because it is close to where we were staying. To be honest, if I knew I was going to have to wait like that, Id have driven to El Chaparrall in Helotes.
The only reason this place would get business is because of the locals or because there’s no other competition. The service is sub par to say the least. This isn’t Mexican food. The chicken in my grandsons chicken taco tastes like it was boiled without spices. I ordered the queso flameado which was served as if it was out into the microwave. Most of the cheese was hardened around the edges of the bowl and very little cheese left in the center. We also ordered a plate of flautas which were also tasteless, and the rice looked and tasted like burnt rice a roni. Coming from San Antonio, maybe our expectations were a little too high. I would imagine if anyone is giving this place high ratings, it would be the locals or people who have no idea what Mexican food should taste like. My boyfriend, who pretty much eats anything, couldn’t finish his plate. It was that bad.
I do not recommend this place at all. It's worth making the drive into San Antonio, then eating here. The food is sub-par nothing great for the price. I placed an order one day and apparently mis-pronounced my order according to the the lady in the kitchen who argued with me (who by the way is a customer) on how I did not say the right thing. But every other Mexican restaurant I go too and order the same thing they know what I'm asking for and I get the right order. The manager and the lady who is the cook were insistent on arguing with me, especially telling me how it was my fault for not saying my order correctly. They both were very unprofessional and clearly do not know customer service, nor do they care about their customers. Should have known that the customer service wasn't gonna be great just by the place being dirty.
I've been coming to this place for YEARS and it hasn't been the same since they changed buildings. They will give you an unsweetened tea if you ask for sweet. They will ask you if you want red or green salsa, and if you ask for both; sometimes you get red or none at all. This time I believe I was charged for extra salsa and didn't get any salsa verde. I always tip well even though I know they're gonna mess up. I keep telling myself, maybe one day they can figure it out.
I've eaten here several times and tonight was the absolute worst! Terrible customer service. Food was cold and the beer was warm. Guacamole was tasteless. Enchiladas couldn't be finished. The only things halfway decent were the charro beans and the pico de gallo. Even the chips tasted like the oil was old or rancid! Very disappointed - could have driven another 10 miles and had decent tasting food for about the same price! Truthfully, don't bother!
Ordered busicuts and gravy this morning. No sausage in gravy and biscuits were hard as a rock. Guess when they advertise busicuts and gravy, they mean just that gravy! Saisage in your gravy is extra charge. Then when they bring sausage gor your gravy, its a sausage patty tore up in chunks. This isnt the first bad experience we’ve had here. Think well go to Dennys next time!!!
I used to really enjoy the street tacos at La Cabana Cafe, but NOT today. When I went to pay I asked the cashier and waitress if they have changed the recipe or the meat they said no. I told them well I'm going to go home and feed this to my dog. They blamed it on the cook. No discount...notta.
Called my order in ahead of time, here I am standing in the restaurant so far for 23 minutes waiting on a chicken tender plate. The lady next to me has been here 15 minutes waiting for 3 tacos. They just handed her the bag that’s been on the counter for 10 minutes and said oh your orders been ready. No apology. No communication between staff. Had to come back because the guy on the phone misinformed me on what came on the plate and now I will have to wait longer.
Tried this place several times for lack of other/better Mexican food options. Food is decent at best. 1 star for staff who seem to favor regulars over non. On several of my visits I waited over an hour for the food to arrive, so don’t come hungry. On our last visit, we did finally get a reason for the delay but only after we asked if there was a problem with our order. Advise to staff: If a paying customer comes in and orders an item from the menu that takes a longer prep time, at the very least give a heads up so there are no surprises. Lastly, no apologies what’s so ever for the long wait, or appreciation for the business. I do not recommend. Perhaps drive a little further out.
We sat there for thirty minutes waiting for our food to arrive. Finally got up and left . Will not be coming back to this establishment.
Food is fine but the short, heavy-set woman with black hair always pulled back is EXTREMELY unpleasant to everyone; she acts put out when anyone wants to place an order. Quoted 15 minutes then told me to “make my own food” when I questioned about my order after 25 minutes. She has been this way for years. Get a different job if you hate people so much.
Been going here for a while now. Foods always pretty good. My rating is on the service, not the food. But here lately they have been over charging alot. Just paid 22 dollars for 2 orders of sausage biscuits with gravy....wth guys. Typically eat here 2 times a week. Not how you should treat your regulars.
I've tried to eat there 3 different times thinking it might have been a bad day and all 3x's it was like food from a can! Bland and blahhh i like my food with flavor this place just doesn't do it!
After I left the disgusting 4 way stop, I seen this Mexican food restaurant and decided to give this town 1 more chance. Thank God I did. The employees were professional, the food was delicious, the prices were great and if I ever decide to possibly look at buying a house in this community again, I will definitely stop, eat and recommend this restaurant. I doubt I will be back, because the lake is dry, the homes are overpriced and it is not a place I choose to retire. But this restaurant may be worth a country drive for some good Tex Mex food. Anyone that may read this and looking for a place to eat. This is my recommendation. Other than that. 💩💩💩
Here I am in south Texas thinking how can you mess up Mexican food? Even more, how can you mess up NACHOS?! This was inedible guys. I got 3 tostada shells (not chips) that had a smear of dried out beans and a ton of melted cheddar cheese that legitimately looked like they were cut into quarters with a pizza cutter (which cooled so the bottom layer stuck to the foil, that was in there for some reason) I ordered nachos, I received a couple of broken up bean and cheese tostadas that had this potatoes in part of it... Come on guys.
