It’s a drive from where we are but it was worth it. We got the soft shelled crab appetizer, California rolls (with real crab), and two lunch specials. The food is great, no surprise that a lot of people come here. The food tastes homemade even personalized (and it’s special that way). The serving is just right (made you feel full but not overwhelmingly full). We’re definitely coming back!

The ingredients, preparation, and presentation were perfect. The eel was done with precision. The rolls were delicious, and the real crab makes such a difference in taste, elevating the California roll. I was also able to request real wasabi (not horseradish) in a small dish. These plates were worth every penny, and the dining experience was terrific. The chef also came out to talk with us about how he sources ingredients and what he looks for. Rest assured whatever you're eating here, was made using ingredients picked with experience and a specific purpose in mind. It will be hard to find something like this anywhere else for such a good price. The rolls pictured in the photo are the Crunch & Munch under the chopsticks, Butterfly roll nearest, and the California roll to the right. The real wasabi is pictured second.

Really quaint, but great quality Japanese cuisine restaurant nestled in the Lathrop area. Fantastic food and great service! Would highly recommend. Lovely modern atmosphere and seating arrangement. Large open tables for couples and a bar for dining solo or with colleagues. Has just the right touch of modern cues while being very professional. Dishes are portioned modestly, just the right amount. Plating is excellent with dishware that accentuates and provokes emphasis on the food itself. The authentic wasabi option on some dishes is quite a creative culinary experience.

We decided to try Amici Sushi as it is on the RAD card. All four of us thought it was delicious. Great service and very tasty. The owner came by our table three times to check and see if all was okay. Sushi items are prepared and presented impeccably. Shawn and Orion made us feel like we were the only customers in the restaurant. This place is a hidden gem. We will return for more. Thank you!

The fresh wasabi is a MUST when you come here. Personally like the salmon nigiri and sashimi more than sushi. But here everything is great 👌 20/10 recommend coming here

If you pass through Lathrop, California on Interstate 5, I recommend stopping at this restaurant for sushi and sashimi and other Japanese dishes. The Hamachi (yellowtail) and otoro (tuna belly) were excellent. The sashimi was accompanied by fresh wasabi - loved it. Enjoyed the soft shelled crab, flying fish roe, and uni (sea urchin), too. Fresh uni from Santa Barbara. The shrimp and vegetable tempura were lightly breaded, hot, and crisp. We had two orders of shrimp tempura. The waiter John was fun to talk to. Lots of energy and lots of good recommendations. Excellent selection of beer and Sake. John recommended the Funaguchi Kikusui Sake which is un-pasteurized and undiluted. It was a perfect pairing with the sashimi. There were a few issues. The ginger slices were cut too big like the size of two of your fingers. Tables are close together. The restaurant is on the corner of a strip mall, so seating is a little tight. We wanted to chat with the owner, but he was preoccupied. The restaurant closed 20 minutes early, and they started putting chairs on top of the tables while we were still eating.

Was pleasantly surprised by this Japanese restaurant! We stopped by during a long road trip and didn’t expect such high-quality food and attentive service. Most Japanese restaurants in Northern California—especially around the Bay Area—tend to follow a predictable formula: bland miso soup, dry overcooked salmon teriyaki, and neon green fake wasabi served with sashimi. But this place exceeded expectations across the board. They clearly pay close attention to details that most others overlook, which really deserves appreciation. The miso soup was probably the most flavorful I’ve ever had—even compared to places I visited in Japan. That’s impressive, considering miso soup is usually an afterthought, served almost like a freebie. The care they put into it really stood out. I always order salmon teriyaki (I know it’s not the most authentic choice, but it’s my comfort food), and after trying it at dozens of Japanese restaurants in Northern California, this was the first time the salmon wasn’t dry. It was juicy, tender, and thoughtfully prepared. The sashimi was another highlight—served on ice, with great flavor and real wasabi, which elevated the entire experience. If I lived in the area, I’d be here all the time. Honestly, most Japanese restaurants in SF or San Jose don’t match the quality of this one.

So blessed to have some of the BEST SUSHI EVER, so close to home! Sean, the owner, is always so welcoming to everyone and his food will NEVER DISAPPOINT! You really can't go wrong with anything on the menu, but my biggest recommendations are the JOSH ROLL 1, and JOSH ROLL 2. A custom roll Sean made specifically for and named after my brother Joshua Anderson

Even during COVID-19, Shawn does what he can to serve top-quality sushi. Whether it is takeout or dine outside, it is always amazing. Did not think to take photos today, but even though sushi was on paper plate, it was made up beautifully, and service was still amazing. Update 06/24/23- Food and service are still amazing. Adding a picture of an off menu item. If you like sushi but also like a fusion of sweet and spicy, give Amici a try. The pictured item has mango mixed with a habanero sauce for the fusion on top. It is so tasty. Ask for the Amanda roll if you want to try it.

I had the 7 piece sake sashimi, spicy edamame’s, white rice and miso soup. Fantastic!!! Wow 🤩 is all I can say! If you’re looking for a sushi spot, do your pallet a favor and try this place out! This is my new #1 restaurant 💯

If i could give a 6th star i would. The fish has fantastic flavor without being overpowering. The rolls are very large and extra filling. The 2 I received ( Shawn + Lathrop) were suggested to me by Shawn according to receipt and he made me feel like family. The dipping sauce is really something special as well and adds to the savory/sweetness of the roll. I wouldn't hesitate to get take out sushi from these guys anytime. Also had some hot saki while i waited. Keep killing it. Thank you.

Our #1 sushi spot! This place has the best sushi in San Joaquin county and I will say anywhere in California! (We have gone to MANY sushi restaurants). We have had every single roll on the menu (my favorite is the Julie Roll or Forever Love) and not one roll that I’ve had do I second guess. The sashimi is always fresh and made to order. Of course that includes the freshest sushi rolls. Shawn (the owner) makes an effort to ALWAYS say hello and introduce himeself! This makes the experience personal and that much better! With a great ambiance, we always get excited to bring family and friends to check this place out. As long as this place stays open, we will be forever returning customers for years to come!

Went here for lunch. Had the chirashi bowl and rainbow roll, while my friend had the sashimi moriawase and a spicy tuna roll. Fish is fresh and tasty! There was no lunch crowd so it was a nice, quiet environment. Service was great a staff is friendly and welcoming.

This place is “okay” but not “fine Japanese.” The techno music is awful and it feels like you are at a nightclub not some fine dining restaurant. Service is OK, but I needed to ask for water a couple of times. The food was nothing like I am used to in Hawaii. The sesame chicken was not tasty at all. For the tempura, they give you once small tiny piece of shrimp, one onion, and some vegetables. The portions are very small. I would not go back.

It was my first time coming to this restaurant and I've been wanting to try this place since it had good reviews. I drove 30 mins from home just to try this local sushi place. Sad to say, I'm extremely disappointed. Here are my thoughts... Service - Customer service was mediocre. I believe I was greeted by the owner/chef when I walked in. They only had one waiter so it seems like they're short staffed. I waited for a good 5-10 mins before being helped. Then waited for another 10 mins before the waiter can bring my check so I can pay for my order. Incomplete Order - One of the items I ordered was a bento box (but they called it a combination plate) was supposed to come with rice, soup, and salad. They forgot to put the rice in the bag for my bento box and didn't double check. Cost - I ordered 9 things and it costs about $134-135. It is actually more expensive than other places I've been to ordering similar food and it would have been under $100. I ordered the Salt & Pepper Soft Shell Crab appetizer and didn't know it was one small crab sliced in half and that costs $11, which was not worth it. So I looked at my receipt, I saw a $1 charge for take out. I didn't ask why there's such charge when I should've so that part was on me and can't blame anyone. As far as I'm aware, I haven't seen any sushi restaurants in Stockton or other places besides the bay area that would charge customers a fee for take out due to COVID. I personally don't agree with that surcharge because it's not fair to customers and I don't support this behavior. Had I known about this I would've reconsidered coming here. Taste of Food - This is where I have some MAJOR red flags. 1) The cold foods and hot foods were put together in the same bag, which is wrong and it's a no no. You HAVE to keep them separate and never in the same bag. I had a bento box with sashimi and tempura that came with soup and salad. One bag had the sashimi, tempura, and miso soup put together in one bag. The hot soup changed the taste and temperature of the sashimi. I saw the tuna fish slice was partially cooked and I saw the box had watery liquid. Sashimi should be more on the dry side and there shouldn't be any liquid from the fish at all. Then when I took a bite, I can't get past that warm taste and had to spit it out. That piece of tuna was tossed out. 2) One of my other things I ordered was Spicy Garlic edamame. I think they used fresh garlic so the garlic was burnt and it gave a bitter taste. Their spicy level was way too spicy and I think they put too much. 3) I ordered 4 rolls and to my surprise, there was absolutely no flavor! The California Roll is a classic example and typically you can't go wrong ordering this but obviously it did go wrong. They used snow crab which gave me a weird taste. The cucumbers didn't seem fresh and the rice was rather dry so it makes me wonder if they put the right amount of rice vinegar or if its the type of rice they used the went wrong. But I definitely saw some gap in the center of the roll and it wasn't rolled and pressed tightly. I felt there was too much rice and the pieces were thick cut which I'm not too fond of. To sum this up, this was the worst sushi I've had in my entire life. I am a sushi lover since middle/high school and over time I learned how traditional sushi making is prepared, what is used etc. That is how passionate I am when it comes to sushi. I am not looking for quantity but more of quality. And when I eat sushi, I would look at the sushi chef if they have the technique and skill when preparing fresh fish and making sushi rolls. I don't think I will return after this experience. Please note, this is strictly my personal opinion and I would suggest that you try it out for yourself to determine it. Thank you.

I’m visiting from out of town and my cousin was excited to bring me here and honestly one of the worst dining experiences I’ve ever had. We waited over an hour for our food to arrive at the table, and during that entire time, not a single staff member offered any apology or explanation for the delay. The lack of communication and basic courtesy was unacceptable. When you dine out, you expect at least a minimal level of customer service, and this fell far below that standard. I won’t be coming back, and I wouldn’t recommend Amici Sushi to anyone looking for a respectful, timely dining experience.
