Highly recommended! The canard au poivre was perfectly cooked and the entrecôte was good too. Weirdly, the waiteress didn't ask about the desired doneness of the entrecôte.
Great spot for French cuisine in Loudoun County. First visit was wonderful. Looking forward to next visit
We stopped in for an early dinner after some Loudoun county wine tasting and we started with the Radis, which is something my dining partner had never experienced. We also split the Croque Madame and the a bowl of soup. Everything was delicious. The only disappointing item was that we didn't get to experience the wine selection as we were already wined out for the day. Can't wait to try establishment again.
Great food, nice wine selection. The bread was authentic. Excellent server and the manager visited our table. We will be back.
OMG with my husband we try this restaurant for the firs time yesterday 5.19; amazing experience, please try the Carpaccio, Mussels, Onion and Cauliflower soup. And don't forget your dessert! Grapefruit Sorbet and Beignets. We are coming back for sure !!!!
Went here for lunch with my baby, wife, and mom. They we're all super friendly, fast, and extremely accommodating. Food was great! Excellent place to grab some good food.
Really good food at reasonable price. Great atmosphere. Above average wine list. Wines are stored properly. Authentic French brassarie.
Yummy food!! We got a variety of dishes for brunch. The Croque Madame was lovely! Thank you for the wonderful service.
An awesome evening with good friends. The food was presented well and the flavors were very nice. And the welcome and service was excellent
Great food. Authentic French bistro. Comfortable seating and great service. Reasonably priced wine list with good selections.
We’ve been several times & had a perfect experience on each occasion (which is not always easy when dining with 2 young children!). Great food, friendly staff, & lovely ambiance.
Yummy food, great service, fantastic ambiance. Overall loved it. I had the hibiscus champaign and the croque madame, both were great.
Always love coming back here: great French inspired cuisine, very friendly atmosphere, reasonable check! One of my favorite places in the area!
The French Hound Brasserie is a very good restaurant. They do use quality products that are fresh. The staff are very pleasant people, always attentive but not overwhelming. I would recommend their steak and their fish selections. Let us not forget their deserts - delicious. It was a great lunching experience.
Came here for a small dinner and was not disappointed. We made a reservation through Yelp but that wasn't necessary as it wasn't very busy. We had the soup of the day which was a butternut squash soup and it was delicious. Our server was friendly and very attentive, gave us recommendations on drinks an wine. We ended the evening sharing a small pizza and a cocktail. Overall it was a good experience and will be coming back for their brunch on Sundays. They also have a half off of bottles of wine on Wednesday that I'd be interested in.
Excellent food, wine and service! We go to the French Hound at least once a month. We typically order starters, dinner and wine at the beautiful bar. We are enthusiastic patrons of this special place. The chef is fantastic and the staff (Sabrina, Kerri, Jeremiah...) makes us feel like family. We’d love to see more wine dinners and events.
I have been to the French Hound twice now and both times the food exceeded all of my expectations. I have had the hanger steak and spinach and just recently went to a happy hour event and had the most amazing poutine I have ever eaten in my life! Great atmosphere, fantastic service, and authentic french cuisine. They have won me over as a regular customer for sure.
We have eaten. At the French Hound several times and have never been disappointed. Everything we tried—especially those dishes recommended by our server—were delicious and exciting. I love their Croque Monsieur! The steak and frites were cooked just right ( I’m really finicky!) and they do the BEST fries ever! I’ve never made it to dessert so I can’t comment on that. The friendly staff and management are warm and efficient. The ambiance is Parisian casual and fits the neighborhood perfectly! I’ll definitely be going back!
Excellent service! We had a last minute addition to our reservation, but before our extra guests arrived we were seated at a larger table! The appetizers arrived quickly & our entrees were delicious! It just seems like a happy & inviting place! We’re going back with friends next weekend for the Sunday Brunch!
A great wine list is a great start.. The menu is superb; a real French Brasserie. Very good bread (which is an indicator and is easy to screw up)... Best escargot I have had since moving to Virginia, and a really fine pheasant pate. Everything is simply excellent. Highly recommended.
My wife and I have come here three times already and every time the food was excellent and the service was very friendly. I have tried many French Restaurants in VA, MD , and DC but by far this one is authentic and the best. My favorite are the onion soup and escargot but the rest of the menu is excellent as well. Please give French Hound a try. You will not be disappointed. Note : parking is available in the back. Three left turns when you come in from route 7
Love this place! Great private event room for a party and an outdoor patio for nice weather dining. Chef John is always on point. My favorites are French Onion Soup and Escargot! Stopping by for a cocktail or glass of wine is wonderful too!
Enjoyed a birthday dinner here while visiting family over the weekend. Enjoyed is an understatement; it was one of the best restaurant experiences I’ve ever had from the vibe of the place to the service to the food. Everything was excellent. If you’ve been thinking about going for a meal and think “but French places tend to be overpriced and stuffy”...go...go now...it’s a friendly/welcoming/reasonably priced/delicious place to eat with so many options. Everything we had was incredible!
Food was wonderful! My daughter and i both loved it. Prices were what I expected for a French restaurant. Our server, one of tge managers, i think, was really attentive without being overbearing. We really can't wait to go back!
Way out of our neighborhood but worth every minute of the drive. Family owned and run and the dinner was superb! The escargot, the flank steak and fries or any thing was superbly prepared and served by the Chef. And the desserts, OMG! Try it, you'll love it!
The service was top of the line including the hostess. Visited for happy hour. The food and drinks were magnificent! I especially loved the open patio for pawed friends. Try out the shrimp if you need a quick bite.
Sunday brunch was amazing. Smoked salmon eggs Benedict with delicious fruit salad in house. Great service and great food. French bread was excellent. Can't wait to return to try some of the other menu items.
Great food and even better service! We came in for brunch and loved it here! Kerri, the bartender, provided us with excellent service despite being swamped with Mimosa and Bloody Mary orders. The whole staff really worked together to help her throughout her busy morning. It was great to see! Highly recommend this place!!
Very gracious hostess staff (we were late). Adam was our server and described the menu and specials in great & culinary- challenged detail (we are not "foodies" so the lay language was greatly appreciated). He also selected wines that paired perfectly with each of our meals. Our entrees were exceptional.
Excellent! I came in for live music and dessert, and was not disappointed. The performer was great, and I had a good time jamming with him too! Kerri was very friendly provided the best service. I highly recommend the grapefruit sorbet.
We were a little hesitant to try the french house, despite all the great reviews. We went for apps and drinks. I'm so glad we did. The staff is super nice and the chorizo pizza and broccoli/potato soup was amazing. Can't wait to go back to sample more of the menu. oh yeah, the bengye' is amazing
My LeadShare group meets at the French Hound for breakfast and the food is delicious! I've eaten many breakfasts at other networking events and none compare (scrambled eggs don't have to be boring!) The overall cleanliness and warm atmosphere add to the experience as well as the friendly and extremely helpful staff.
I come here at least twice a month and the food, service, ambiance and decor are all what make this place such a wonderful gem in the heart of Lansdowne. Live music on weekends is always a great time in an intimate setting with great beer and wines as well as tasty snacks. Free wifi and easy parking are a huge plus. Highly recommend giving this spot a try if you haven't already done so. Looking forward to using the patio now that the weather is nice.
Tried this place on a whim and it was overall a great experience. Wine is available in different sizes pours and there's a wide variety of appetizers at very reasonable prices. I haven't had any of the main entrees yet but I fully intend to return to try the rest of the menu. 10/10
My husband and I are lovers of French food but find very few places that do it right in NoVA...that don't cost a fortune. We were very pleasantly surprised to find this new place in Lansdowne, so, of course, we had to try it. We were blown away. This place is exceptional. Really. The escargots were of such high quality that the bar was set very high at the start. The lamb merguez appetizer takes you right to the south of France. Hubby got the pheasant pate for an entree, and I had the bouillabaisse special. Just when I didn't think I could be more impressed, it happened. It was the best bouillabaisse I have ever had in the US! The pate was a flavor bomb, too!! The service is also very good (thank you, Rachel). I don't know this place from Middleburg, but it looks like Bouchon (Napa) inside, and the bread was a genuine French loaf - absolutely delicious. If you like French food, you can't go wrong with French Hound. I highly recommend this restaurant!!
Wonderful for date night, family gatherings, brunch or just a quick casual bite. Welcoming professional and yet personable team..bartender will make you feel like family and the chef creations are dead on. Finally a restaurant in Leesburg worth visiting regularly for any occasion. We are so happy that they opened in the new location!
Consistently amazing. Great food, drink and service! They remembered us from our first visit. The ribeye and asparagus was perfect and the chocolate mousse is to die for.
Love, love love this place. From the simple elegant appetizers to the kids pizza and excellent, flavorful main courses. It is a treat for the tastebuds each time we go. Welcoming staff and owners are a joy for our family and a treat for visiting guests.
The Hound hasn't skipped a beat since moving from Middleburg. The food is superb, and the service is excellent. It's difficult to find good french food in this area that goes beyond the ordinary roasted chicken. The menu is here is robust - my favorite is the skate wing, which is perfectly executed. Try to find that somewhere else! I'll happily drive to Leesburg to continue eating here.
Actually quite delicious. After looking at the prices on the menu, I was thinking to myself that this better be good.. And it was! Well great actually. The servers and staff were all friendly and knowledgeable. The ambience and French eclectic interior design is a plus as well. I'll certainly be coming back for another dinner soon.
Great food, great service. The seats in the dining area were a little uncomfortable and the 2 top tables were a bit too small. Mussels are meaty and tasty. The duck was cooked to perfection.
The appetizers were quite good. The steak was thin and cooked as ordered but there was a strong citrus flavor and not enough salt and pepper.
Kind of surprised by all of the positive comments- went this evening for Valentines dinner and was not that impressed. The food was ... ok. Reminded me of Mom making her best recipes but substituting to make it more healthy by avoiding salt and butter. French onion was disappointing and the entrees needed salt and pepper - and my view is you shouldn’t need to add seasoning. Wasn’t impressed enough to go back
Had a reservation at 6:30 and when we arrived and throughout our time at the restaurant, there were total 2 groups including us dinned in the larger section of the restaurant. Despite the appeared light traffic, it still took quite a long time to get our dishes. Overall the food was OK, but they were quite expensive too, so I guess I won't come back again. In addition, I ordered lamb stew, but I had to ask for a spoon. And we also had to ask for water refill because nobody came to check our water glasses, even when the restaurant didn't appear to be busy at all.
I chose the French Hound after reading the online reviews. After the Eiffel Tower closed years ago, I was excited to find a French restauran in Leesburg. The French Hound attempts to be upscale with a casual flare. Let’s start with the positive, the mixed drinks are very good. Ordered the mussels a la American, bland under seasoned, lacking any depth of lobster flavor as promised. The scallop risotto was also under seasoned, flat in profile, and could have been found at the worst of any sea shore restaurant. The biggest disaster was the special , crispy pork cheeks. One might expect from the description, crisp pork skin with tender pork meat underneath. But the presentation was deep fried breaded croquets of pork, served over a thin sauce with I think butter nut squash. Yes tender but again under seasoned. Desert, pleasing enough if you had ordered from Applebee’s. The chocolate mousse felt more like frosting rather than a light fluffy mousse. My overall impression is that of an overpriced, underwhelming attempt at French food using off the shelf prepackaged frozen food presented on one of two plates (round & square) somewhat French flavor profile. Nothing French: not the bread, not the food, not the atmosphere, the service adequate but not at these prices, maybe that is French. Julia Child would walk away and so should you.
French onion soup was great. Pizza was good. I thought at least you'd get some french bread when you get seated. Honestly, I love bread and looked forward to having it.... I'm not going to ask for it...bring it.
Dropped in for an early dinner on Good Friday. There is a big disconnect between prices and atmosphere and service. Five star prices in a diner style place.
We had heard it was very good for some time. When we heard it's closing next week, we decided to try it before missing out. The drinks and the bartender who delivered them were good. The appetizers and soups were very good. The rest was bad. Our waiter didn't seem to care. The waiter at some nearby tables liked to have loud, inappropriate conversations with his tables about subjects like DUIs, taxis scamming old people, and people who shouldn't breed. Out of our 4 entrees, one was mediocre, and 3 were very underwhelming. Our waiter never asked how our entrees were. The bartender stopped by and asked, and we explained our complaints. He was surprised, said he would speak to the chef immediately, and quickly walked to the back. Our next interaction was our waiter asking if we wanted desert or just the check. It's clear the staff has given up and doesn't care. Don't waste your time and money going there before they shut down.
We sat down outdoor in their open area around 7:40 pm. They told us they were understaffed. We said ok, that's fine. We waited 30 minutes and no one came to take order for drinks. I went inside and buy drinks directly from the bar. I went back outside with the drinks. 20 minutes later no one is coming to take our order. I went back inside and I told the bar lady that I would order food from the bar. She said that only the server can take food order from outside. I asked her to send the server outside because we were ready to order food. A server came outside and apologized that they were very busy. We told her we were ready to order. She brought us two small plates and we asked her if we could have some bread and olive oil while we were waiting for our meals. She said yes. After 30 minutes we didn't get any bread yet. How long does it take to warm some bread? After 1 hour were still outside waiting for nothing. We decided to leave. They begging us not to leave. They totally messed up! While they claimed they were understaffed, inside they had three servers. Why it is taking so long to bring a piece of bread and some oil?!! In 15 years living in this area, this is the first time I had such a bad experience as this one. If you are telling you are understaffed and you think you cannot serve a ridiculous three slices of bread, you should tell people that you are closed or you can only serve drinks at the bar. This is poor management. Go to Ford's Fish Shack located by the restaurant. They served us an appetizer after 5 minutes we ordered. That's what I am calling a great service! They know how to take care of their customers.
My husband and I went for Valentines Day. We made a reservation for 8pm the dinner was super late got our food at 9 and it was disgusting he ordered a “well done “ steak and me $30 dollar lobster his steak had blood coming out of it which was super gross and my meal well let’s just say we couldn’t find the lobster a very expensive dinner, a huge disappointment.
