I’ll admit, I walked in with my heart set on a Hibachi grill, but my daughter had been nudging me to try Tsunami Restaurant & Sushi Bar for a while. She mentioned they served steak, I was sold, and I’m glad I listened. The Main Course I opted for the Steak and Salmon dinner. As someone who spent time fishing in Alaska, I have high standards for seafood; Tsunami delivered. The salmon was cooked exactly to my preference, and the steak was seasoned to perfection. It was a nostalgic meal that exceeded my expectations for a sushi-focused spot. Sushi Highlights My daughter took the lead on the sushi, ordering a spread that included: California & Philadelphia Rolls (Classic and fresh) Spider Roll (Great texture) Spicy Crunchy Vegas Rolls (The absolute MVP) The Vegas rolls were such a hit with the whole table that we didn't even hesitate to order a second round. If you’re visiting with family, make sure these are on your list. The Grand Finale: Don’t Skip the Coconut Glory To wrap up the meal, we decided to share the Coconut Glory. I say "share" loosely because it was devoured in seconds! It was the perfect light, sweet ending to a heavy steak and sushi meal. If you have even a little room left at the end of your dinner, I highly recommend ordering this. Just be prepared to fight your family for it. Service & Atmosphere The service was top-notch. Our waitress was incredibly attentive and kept the pace of the meal moving perfectly—we never felt like we were waiting, as the food arrived surprisingly fast despite how busy they were. Final Verdict Great food, nostalgic flavors, and a win for the family. I went in wanting Hibachi, but I left planning my next visit to Tsunami. I’ll definitely be back.

I highly recommend this place. The host was friendly and welcoming. I sat at the sushi bar, and the chef came over to explain the setup to me personally. I could watch them prepare my sushi right in front of me—it was clean, fresh, and beautifully done

This is always a go to place for us when it comes to sushi. Haven’t had anything bad before. It always seems busy on weekend nights but it was manageable on a Saturday night waiting about 40 minutes although I do recommend making a reservation. I’ve had a a server in the past who seemed annoyed and it was toward the end of her shift but the one tonight was great. This is definitely one of the few sushi restaurants I recommend for people in Utah including group gatherings.

Overall great lunch. I really liked the tempura vegetable appetizer and the edamame. The sushi was generally good, and the waitress was friendly and responsive. My only two complaints are that when I took my first bite of sushi (a Vegas Roll) it was a tad fishier than I expected. But I can't be sure if that was just the seaweed layer or the fish itself, and later in the meal I didn't notice it any more. Second complaint is that the roll with mango in it had very underripe mango bits, to the point that I thought it was a vegetable until I pulled out a piece by itself to test the flavor and determine what it was (we were in a group, and I didn't order the rolls--so I didn't know which rolls were which).

Great place for all things sushi! Vast menu with tons of roll options. The best part was our waitress who was helpful and took the time to recommend popular choices. We did family style where everyone just eats everything ordered. It was all good, I can’t recall one specific standout roll.

We came across Tsunami for the first time and the experience was great. The service was awesome and sushi itself very tasty

Had a wonderful meal. this was our anniversary. we got a lot of different rolls. the executive roll is our favorite as well as the DP, the dessert tonight was amazing. Luke did a great job seating us and Jen was phenomenal with keeping up with our sushi orders. tsunami is a fantastic place to eat.

I went here for my birthday and the food was delicious and the service was awesome!!! I am Japanese and I think this restaurant is the closest to actual Japanese food in Utah. Our server, Jade, was very kind and spoke to us in Japanese. The service and food were 5 stars or more. We had a wonderful time and highly recommend it🫶🏻 It gets crowded so it's best to make a reservation.

This place is absolutely amazing, the sushi is top notch quality, the taste is incredible and so fresh! The staff is great and super friendly. I have been to more than 30 sushi places worldwide and this is my favorite place, there is a reason why we keep coming back every time we are in Utah! The service is always great, we do ask for changes to the sushi and they provide every single time. This is definitely worth the detour.

Went here with my wife and sister. We ordered the Fire Breathing Dragon, Executive Suite and P.D. rolls. All of them were amazing. I particularly enjoyed the Executive Suite, the lime and cilantro worked extremely well with the rest of the roll and is unlike any other sushi roll I have had. The restaurant was clean and had a great vibe. Our server Jen was amazing. The only thing I didn't like is I don't live in Utah so won't be able to visit often. Those in the area should take advantage of this gem.

Tsunami is a great family sushi restaurant, with fairly high quality fish, well balanced flavors, and a little of everything for everyone. My personal favorite rolls are the DTH, Sugar House, Fire breathing dragon, Spider, Caterpillar, samurai….. hmm, maybe you just have to go get it yourself! Genuinely, everything is always so great, from rolls to appetizers, entrees to desserts (you HAVE to get the coconut glory!!!!) the staff is friendly and attentive and comes ready with great recommendations if you ask

One of my favorite Sushi places to visit. If your feeling like having sushi last minute good luck on getting a table. The longest I have waited for take-out is about 1.5 hours. But no complaints here! 😊 My favorite roll is the executive suit roll, it’s a must try!

I may not be a sushi expert, but this is the [ updated: 2nd best ] sushi I've had in Utah. 2nd best is still very, very good! It is definitely expensive, and I've been lucky to have my employer pay for it, thanks Pro Solutions! The service is wonderful, the atmosphere is very nice, and the sushi was superb.

Food was great; a broad variety of options for different taste preferences. Trust me, try the Green Lip Muscle Shooters! Comfortable atmosphere; lighting, space, and layout are nice. Good music selection. Soft buzz thats not so loud that two people with hearing problems can’t have a conversation. BIG SHOUT OUT TO LORI OUR SERVER! Great energy and attitude, made us perfect Espresso Martinis, asked about our specific tastes and made recommendations that were spot on. Once she knew there was a gluten free guest she very comfortably identified and provided gluten safe options. We had a great experience. THANK YOU LORI AND FRIENDS!

Fantastic experience! Fast sitting, our service guy was so friendly and polite(sorry I forgot his name, I should remembered)! Everything was served very fast, we were impressed by the food qualities too. Downtown Takashi was our favorite sushi place, so we were comparing every single bite we had in Tsunami with our Takashi memories, our conclusion is now we have two favorites. I can't speak enough the fantastic experience we had tonight, it was also my husband's birthday, thank you for the yummy food and great services! 100% Recommend!

Tsunami has long been our favorite sushi restaurant in Utah. Better than Takashi, better than Itto, better than many others. The fish is outstanding and the rolls (minus the fried rolls) feel healthy. They have an excellent gluten free menu and take GF allergies and celiac seriously. Our family’s favorite rolls: - PD roll (GF option) - Something Tropical (GF option) - Cococabana (GF option) - Executive Suite (GF option) - Honey Badger - Don Juan - Vegas - Sean Connery

C
Connor Bernal

This is the best place for sushi in Utah county. On the pricier end albeit, but worth it for special occasions and sushi lovers. The sunshine, coco cabana are good and popular rolls. They come about 8 pieces each order. Plan to spend about $30 a person It’s a busy spot so expect a wait in evenings and weekends.

Tsunami Sushi was a fantastic place to eat lunch. I met some guys for a business lunch. The staff was quite friendly and very helpful. All had smiles on their faces. The waitress was quite knowledgeable. The food was superb. Great taste. The prices are fair and what you expect for good sushi. I was not disappointed. This is quite a nice building and very clean. I would eat here again

S

Great restaurant, I've been multiple times Their lunch specials are very tasty and a good range of options! Not that pricey either, I think like 16$ for their lunch box. They have a wide selection of rolls and meals for a good price too. The food is high quality, presented well, and usually served pretty quickly. I love the easy online reservation options

A
Amy Thayer

This is our favorite date night dinner place! The sushi is awesome! Best sushi I've had locally. They have a very wide variety of rolls as well as other entrees if you aren't sushi inclined. My husband and I never save room for dessert because the rolls are so good! They're very good about accommodating my food allergies as well. The first time we ate their the manager wrote out the sushi ingredients I needed to avoid and what I could substitute them with. Now, I just let my server know about my allergies when we order and he or she clears everything with the chef. The manager usually comes and checks on everything as well. I can't recommend Tsunami enough! One more recommendation. If you go on a weekend, make sure you call at least several hours before to make a reservation. Otherwise there is usually a 45 minute to hour and a half wait time.

The staff was great, very professional and helpful. Our food was wonderful, from appetizers to the sushi rolls to dessert. We were very satisfied with everything. We highly suggest the executive roll. Many flavors that compliment each other.

I'm not really a sushi person, but the food was good and the service was great! They even have dishes for non sushi goers. They were all very kind and very accommodating for large groups.

Went here for the first time and as a self proclaimed sushi connoisseur, this place was pretty impressive. I would most closely compare it to Happy Sumo and I would put them both up in the highest class of sushi restaurants in Utah. The environment was very modern and clean and the sushi was excellent. I do wish they wouldn't use as much jalapeño in their rolls simply because I feel like it overpowers the taste of the fish a little, but it is still really great sushi. The service was awesome. Don't go here planning on spending any less than $25-$40 per person.

We went on Valentine’s Day and we were very impressed!! It was so crazy busy but the employees were calm and professional and the service was amazing. We got our food very fast and it was insanely good. Our favorite restaurant!

Wow just wow... This place is beautiful and very relaxed. The sushi bar was 12/10 no notes. Pan and Keiden were excellent in their knowledge and skill. They made recommendations that governed my dinner experience and I am thankful for it. I am not from this state but would consider coming back here for this!

We had a great night with very high quality food and service. Our server Micah was very kind and amazing at his job. Always the best sushi here.

The food was excellent and my server was very attentive! Will be coming back for more! For those that use reviews for pricing, know that the rolls are moderately priced, I spent a bit more than most people, then again I also had more food than most people.

If I could give more stars, I would! John was our chef, Matthew our waiter and we owe both of them a HUGE shoutout and thanks! They "invented" a roll and went off menu when we weren't sure what to order, and it was hands down one of the best meals we have ever eaten in our entire lives!!! The atmosphere, the service and the food is top notch! Thanks guys!

Delicious sushi rolls but the Coconut Glory dessert was the BEST!!! I'll be thinking of that until I am back in SLC again. Wow! Delicious with the homemade coconut ice cream.

B
Brian Johnson

I enjoyed all the food, but my steak was a little over cooked and chewy for my liking. I am not a sushi fan either so I didn't try any rolls. Our server "G" was amazing and took care of our big party with a smile. We would go back if we are in the area.

C

Skip the sushi and just get the Negima as your entree. I’m joking … but not really. The negima dish was much better than any of the sushi that I tried. Not to say the sushi was bad, but this dish was SO GOOD! I also got some edamame which is always fun. For sushi I got a hand roll, the rainbow roll, the executive suite, and the PD. I wasn’t amazed by any of them and they tasted a tiny bit bland. They could’ve used some more flavor or a bit of spiciness. That said, sushi isn’t really known for its flavor. The major negative part was that I left hungry because the rolls just weren’t filling at all. All in all, the fish was high quality, the rolls were good, and the atmosphere was also good. If you want to go here, make a reservation because it can fill up quick.

I've eaten here a few times. The food is usually spot on and I usually leave satisfied with a dining experience that meets expectations. This time, things were just off a little. The server did a fantastic job and anticipated our needs prior to asking. That was the highlight. The food, overall, was okay. I wanted the chicken curry. They were out at 12:30pm. 90 minutes into their day. That is a big miss. I had the fire breathing dragon roll. I like spices and spicy. I don't like heat to the point you don't taste anything after a couple of bites. This roll was pretty tame by all accounts. It just wasn't as full of different flavors as expected. I wanted a little more heat. I ended up adding more wasabi, but that is a different heat than the spice I was hoping for based on the description. I went with the beef udon since they were out of curry. This was a really good dish. The beef was incredibly tender and flavorful. The noodles cooked perfectly. The broth was a tad salty, but not bad. My wife's roll was better than mine. She had the beach paradise or something similar. A very good roll with different flavors exploding through the roll. She also had the salad, which she loved, but I didn't get to taste it since she wasn't sharing...

Tsunami was great! We had 12 rolls which came out to be around $270 (including taxes). They were all great rolls and we tried a variety of them. It was my first time going Tsunami and I must say it's better than most other Sushi Restaurants I've been to. At least this particular location. I'm just bummed I had to share with other people.... If you like Sushi or want to try it, you can't go wrong with Tsunami!

It’s a very nice date night for my wife & I. I planned a quick bites at a local brewery. However, they were under staffed and turned us away. Lucky for us, we stumbled on Tsunami at Lehi. Our server, Nate was very courteous and attentive to our order. We made it quick since it’s close to closing time. We ordered a Kirin Ichiban beer from Japan to pair with our sushi dinner. A seaweed salad with two bowls of miso soup. The salad tasted good but the soup was cold. We also ordered a Dragon roll and a Spider roll. Both rolls hit the spot and were very tasty. Overall, we liked the restaurant for its cleanliness and very subtle ambiance. Along with a friendly staffs call for another visit soon.

One of the better sushi places in the Salt Lake area. Considering how far we are from the ocean, the fish still tasted pretty fresh. Really good desert options as well. I will definitely go back.

Our friends took us for lunch & it was great! If you go, be sure to ask for the chicken wings - it's not on the menu, but it's amazing! Best wings ever! We had several sushi rolls & they were all great! Would definitely recommend.

Good sushi and lowkey ambiance! Plenty of seating. The Japanese curry and Tuna salad was presented very well though the flavors were average and nothing spectacular.

G
Grace Tegerdine

The ambiance is really pleasant and our server was very professional and proficient. However, the food took a long time getting out to us. We ordered the Don Juan, the Cococabana, and the Fire-Breathing Dragon, all of which were pretty good. Definitely one of the better sushi places in the area, although I wouldn’t say that it’s anything remarkable.

J

Great spot for some sushi favorites. Fast, friendly service. Good, fresh food that was delivered quickly. Not anything spectacular, but definitely a place I would eat again. It looked like they had a sushi bar which I’d like to try the next time I go.

I have been wanting to try Tsunami for quite some time. I've heard so many good things about it. Today, a friend and I went for dinner. We wanted to try some traditional rolls for comparison, and some signature rolls to taste what they can do. The restaurant was clean, service was friendly, helpful, and consistent. We ordered a beef appetizer, a California, tiger, Portland, tsunami, and cococabana rolls. The appetizer was the best thing we ate. For the rolls, rice wasn't very sticky, flavors were mute, and some rolls tasted a bit "fishy," and everything was dry. It reminded me of leftovers the next morning after things have dried out. The Portland, which is tofu, was the second best thing I ate, because it had some moisture. Now, is it that bad? No. If you haven't had great sushi or you don't know the difference, this is going to be a good place. In my opinion there are better places. There isn't anything to hate here, just better options elsewhere. Maybe I had built it up in my mind, but I left disappointed.

A
Adam Briles

Best thing about this place is the diversity of sushi roll creations. Worst thing about this place is quality and freshness of the fish. One of my rolls had OLD tuna. So old it was grey colored. Our server told us the honey bee roll was super flavorful, so we tried it. It was very bland. Best roll we tried was the Executive Suite. If you're looking for inexpensive lower quality fish served in a modern elegant-ish setting, give tsunami a try. Don't get the calamari appetizer! It was horrible. Tasted like spent fryer oil.

Disappointed It’s been a while since our last visit (probably a year ago). This place used to be good, not the best sushi but at least the quality was consistent. The Hokkaido scallop sashimi we ordered were the thinnest 3 pieces of sashimi ($10) we’ve ever seen (see photo left). Quality is questionable because not only are the scallop slices tiny, but also as soon as I try to pick one up with my chopsticks, it breaks. ??!!! (I’m Chinese so don’t doubt my chopsticks skills😅) Same thing with the Kampachi (amber jack) nigiri, off taste, simply just not fresh. Our server, however, was really on top of everything. Service was definitely 10/10. But we will probably not be going back. There’s a much better sushi place called Kobe Japanese Restaurant in Millcreek.

Honestly, not sure why this place is so busy. The rice on all of the rolls is hard and gross. The atmosphere is very average maybe the equivalent of an Olive Garden I honestly don’t say this out of spite or any issue with any of it. I’m just being honest I’ve had good sushi all over the world. I’ve had good atmospheres all over the world. This is neither.

We hadn’t been to Tsunami for a few years and it was such a disappointment this time. The service was good so no criticism there. The food however, terrible. The quality has dropped so much since the last time we went, I was stunned. To start with the miso soup had such a strong msg taste it was completely inedible. We ordered 2 combination meals and 1 extra roll. The taste of the salmon and teriyaki steak was good but the portion size was honestly something I’d expect on a kids menu. The salmon was about a quarter inch thick. The really disappointing thing were the sushi rolls. The cococabana was the best of the 3 but it was comparable to something you’d buy in desperation at a grocery store. The rice for everything was way too dry and they were just falling apart. The actual slices of fish were incredibly small as were the rolls themselves. The signature Tsunami roll was not good at all. It was weirdly chewy and the rice was especially bad in this roll. The Vegas roll, which is a favorite of mine at most restaurants, had the most strange flavor I’ve ever had in a roll. It was horrible and I couldn’t eat more than 1 piece and I regretted that one. The tempura was not crisp. Just awful food. If you want good sushi I’d definitely skip Tsunami and go to Kahi in American Fork or Blue Fish in South Jordan. But based on our food last night, ANY sushi restaurant would be better. We have no plans to return again. It ruined my birthday dinner.

Pretty disappointing considering the price and hype. Sushi was a little bland and I’m pretty sure they left the eel sauce off 2 of mine but the server just said they put it on the inside but I couldn’t taste it at all. Charged extra for switching out katsu sauce. Sushi was smaller and cut thinner than other places and 2/4 rolls were falling apart so not tightly rolled enough. Sauces were all pretty thin and edamame was small portion but habanero salt was good. Miso soup was lacking flavor.

We used to be regulars here, but haven’t gone in a while. Went tonight and the experience was disappointing. Our table was uncomfortably tiny… Like so tiny that my plate hung off. Our waitress kept touching our plates/cups/sauce dishes to move them around and make room on the table. It was gross having her repeatedly handle our food/drinks because of this tiny table. My body doesn’t tolerate rice well so I asked for extra vegetables in place of rice. I was told it would be an extra $6 for that swap. I then asked what can I get instead of rice that I don’t need to pay for and the waitress said “Umm nothing, we recently changed our policy”. Really? So I kept the rice for my husband to eat… I got the teriyaki steak, cooked medium. It came out well done and was really really dry. Just pretty bad experience overall. I don’t appreciate restaurants that nickel and dime people and don’t accommodate for intolerances, or make people pay more for being allergic to things and needing to substitute. Told my husband I’m officially done with Tsunami.

We had a really disappointing experience at this Tsunami location today. Our family came in for lunch and made a simple request: we asked our server three times to make sure our sushi rolls were sliced thin. Not only did our food take longer than usual, but we also saw our server deliver one of the rolls we ordered to the wrong table. Moments later, he took that same roll back to the kitchen and then immediately brought it to us along with our other rolls, none of which were sliced thin as requested. When we pointed this out, the server offered to take the rolls back, but we declined since we had already waited long enough. What made the situation worse was the lack of accountability. The manager, Harrison, never came by to check on the issue we had to specifically request to speak with him. Even then, he sent someone else to speak with us. We explained everything, including how the roll was passed from another table to us, and that person simply said, “Oh, I guess the waiter wasn’t trained not to do that.” Their solution? A free dessert. We had to ask for that roll to be removed from our bill, and all we received was a quick apology. If you enjoy dining at Tsunami, I’d highly recommend visiting a different location. Harrison clearly doesn’t know how to handle difficult conversations or provide proper customer service.

Despite showing up at a time, we’re walk-ins should not be required to be placed on waitlist, The greeter for this location required that we provide our information so that we may be put on the waitlist and then took the information down incorrectly. Afterward, when going to order an alcoholic beverage, they declined to accept digital identification that is provided by the Utah State drivers license division. It is absolutely insane that I can go by cannabis Or purchase alcohol from the state liquor store utilizing the same digital identification card that has all of the same required markings and a QR code to confirm validity. Don’t waste your time coming here

D
Danielle Marshall

I just ordered $50 worth of takeout, and it’s absolutely horrible. Firstly, when I called to order, the person taking my order could not hear anything. I had to repeat my order to her 3 times. I was forced to pay over the phone, and I had to repeat my card number 4 times. My rolls are completely flavorless, and are mostly rice (which is very dry). My aloha roles don’t have any taste, and despite the menu stating they contain jalapeños, there aren’t any. I also ordered a Philadelphia roll which the menu states contains smoked salmon. The salmon is not smoked.

My husband and I came in for a date night and had reservations for two. Unfortunately, from the moment our server, Teena, began helping us, we felt like we were an inconvenience rather than welcomed guests. There were several eye rolls while we ordered an appetizer and two sushi rolls, and we mentioned we might order more later. Our drinks sat empty for about ten minutes. When we decided to order the teriyaki chicken, it took around 20 minutes to arrive, and when it did, it was ice cold. Teena didn’t check back on us for over ten minutes, so I wasn’t able to let her know right away. By the time she returned, it was too late to have it remade since we had somewhere else to be. I completely understand that serving can be a busy and stressful job, but guests should still feel taken care of when they’re spending their hard-earned money. If a server is overwhelmed or not in the right headspace to provide service, it might be better to take fewer tables so everyone receives the experience they deserve. Sadly, this visit fell short of that.
