Excellent scallops perfectly cooked and full of flavor! Friendly staff and lovely environment with a lot of local beer selection and cuisine. Had the scallops risotto which was creamy and rich with bacon and the salad with goat cheese and beets. Definitely coming back for more.
Welcoming and accessible, our family enjoyed brunch here. Macie took excellent care of us, answering questions and checking on us and our food. The fries in the Poutine were cooked just right and the sausage gravy was flavorful and not too heavy. The Shrimp & Grits featured hearty shrimp, pork belly, kale and teeny blistered tomatoes. The slight heat on the sauce brought it all together. The Steak & Eggs featured a large NY strip and 2 eggs cooked precisely to order. Well-seasoned homefries rounded out this tasty dish. The Chicken & Waffles was loaded with flavorful chicken and accompanied by crispy fried green tomatoes that you can tell are breaded by hand. Dessert of multi-layered carrot cake and creamy strawberry cheesecake left us jokingly asking for the nap room - we were invited to enjoy the rocking chairs on the front porch for as long as we would like! Thank you for a great family meal with excellent food and excellent service, in a unique and historic setting.
My wife and I went here for Sunday brunch. My wife had pancakes with a side of sausage gravy and I had the crab eggs Benedict. Both were excellent. The pancakes were big and fluffy and the sausage gravy had a good amount of sausage chunks. It was lightly spicey. My eggs benny had plenty of delicious crab, well poached eggs and two large slices of ham. The flavors combined perfectly. Our server was friendly, accurate and efficient.
Very nice and cozy atmosphere without all of the loud chatter and noise of many restaurants. You feel as though you are having a meal in your grandmother's home... "Get your elbows off the table honey!" We were immediately greeted and seated in the lower eating room. Our server, Myresha was absolutely amazing! She had a genuine smile, a very cheerful attitude and happy to help demeanor. She took the time to assist us in determining what would be the best entrees for us as well as being very attentive. My wife had the Shrimp and Grits and I had the Pork Shank and Grits. Both dishes were promptly served and were prepared to perfection... So Yummy! The portions were the perfect size and the food was the perfect temperature. They also have an array of In-House prepared desserts as well as special drinks. We will definitely be visiting again when we are back in the Southern Peninsula of Maryland.
Great food! Our first time here and I am definitely impressed! We will hopefully be able to get down that way to try it again.
In the area for work. It was a gorgeous evening & we took advantage by visiting The Front Porch. Wait staff were attentive & friendly. Menu was a mix of Southern classics with a modern twist. We had the pulled pork Tots (large portion), fried green tomatoes & a bacon cheddar burger with onion rings. We watched the risotto & other entries come out and everything looked delish. The porch was delightful and the interior was beautifully historic. Moderately priced. Would highly recommend.
My first time dinning here but heard nothing but good reviews about it. I just say that we was not disappointed. The service was excellent. Our server Riley (sp) was very informative, helpful and attentive to our needs. All of our food was great. My husband had the chicken and waffles and he said it was wonderful. 😊 The crab dip was very good and plenty to share at our table of 6. The appetizer shrimps with some kind of chilli sauce was great. The fried Brussel sprouts with bacon, and goat cheese was plentiful and very good. My daughter enjoyed the avocado toast. I had the shrimp and grits. It was just enough, a little but too much sauce to my liking. But the sauce was good that it was still delicious. My dad had the pecan crusted salmon with rice and cabbage and he loved it. Daughters had chicken fingers and chicken Alfredo. They both enjoyed their meals as well. The bread pudding was outstanding! I’m looking forward to coming back to try other items from this menu.
WOW! This place does it right!! Went for Dinner and had an amazing experience! The server was fantastic and attentive the entire time, and the food was SO good! Everything was delicious, including the drinks. 5 ⭐ all around!
I've been here many times so I wanted to do a review to encourage others to try this wonderful restaurant which is an integral part of the charm in Leonardtown. First of all, I love the outdoor seating option (on the porch, of course) when the weather is nice. The inside also has a lovely atmosphere with several sections in this wonderful historic mansion turned restaurant. The lighting is just right, the decor is really aesthetically pleasing and interesting, the service is always good, and the food is absolutely fabulous. I've had their specialty salad with added salmon many times and it never disappoints. Last night while celebrating my friend's birthday, I decided to try the chicken and waffles which is made with chicken thighs (an excellent choice for this dish) and it's drizzled in a honey pepper glaze, adding just the right notes of sweet and heat. I paired that with a glass of Moscato and the combination was perfect. My friends had salads, and quiche, as well as desserts of cheesecake and bread pudding. They both raved about their dessert. If you haven't been to this place yet, be sure to visit it soon. It's a wonderful choice for celebrating special occasions, or just a relaxing meal with someone special.
We always love going to The Front Porch when we go to Southern Maryland. The ambiance gives you a historic feel that transports you back in time. I started with the crab dip. It is really good and they serve you a massive amount. It really is enough for a meal for two (I was unable to finish it). I had the Maple Salmon Salad as my entree. The salmon was prepared perfectly and the salad greens were fresh and leafy. I have had several different menu items and they all have been really good. The staff is always friendly and welcoming. The servers are well-trained and attentive. I can't wait to go back!
Nice atmosphere, good food! I really enjoyed the fried green tomatoes, they are delicious and paired well with the garlic sautéed spinach they top. My husband was not as pleased with his crab cake sandwich, he said it was good but not a lot of flavor. We sat out on the porch and enjoyed the fresh air, service from our waitress was excellent!
This place has such a special atmosphere due to the historic and original nature of the building. Also, their menu is varied and delicious. Love their house cocktails. Great prices and amazing value. The pork shank was divine. So tender and perfectly complemented by the included cheddar grits and bourbon kale. Yum!
Great 1st time experience here. We went for brunch and I wanted the crab eggs Benedict and asked for a fried crab cake instead of the lump of crab and it was all absolutely delicious! Mimosas were very good too! I'd definitely go back! Nice environment inside and staff were all very friendly, nice and professional. Recommended!
Stopped in for brunch , visiting from out of state for a wedding that evening. Quaint atmosphere, good service and food was excellent! Would definitely recommend.
Great food and atmosphere. They have a baker in house you can order desserts in advance to pickup its called desserts by Jordan. The cheeseburger is one of the best I've had. Make sure you get their mayo on the burger it's spicy. Their steak is very good ! The fried pickles are great though the sauce is a little bland. Side salad had crubled blue feta but it was ok and dressing was good. Highly recommended! We've been multiple times but sometimes it's a long wait.
What a delightful place! I had a fabulous steak gyro with a great salad. The hubs had a melt in your mouth burger! Again, excellent!!! We’d absolutely recommend this place. The interior rooms were each set up with various tables giving it a very cozy feel. Bathroom was cute too! Wonderful service!
Just stopped by for brunch today and wow was I pleasantly surprised. The food was delicious, friendly service and drinks were on par. Definitely recommend. Oh least I forget, for weekend brunch, you might need to make a reservation.
This place is an awesome historic house that has been turned into a restaurant. The food was absolutely amazing me and my sister got the soup and salad with the pulled pork tots for an appetizer. The soup was one of the best soups I have ever had I believe it was called the chicken corn chowder but OMG it was good for a soup. The salad was also good. The pulled pork tots are amazing the pulled pork is damn good in my opinion. If you are in the area stop on by. There is also a restaurant across the street that looked amazing and had wings with many different flavors if that’s your thing I will have to try that place next time I am in the area can’t remember the name but will try to find and update this post when I do. Staff was also amazing.
Great food and service in a nice setting. Good selection of beer and wine, and our meals were excellent. The building dates from the 1850s and a nice interior. Wait staff were friendly and efficient. Plenty of parking, and its a short distance to the water. Highly recommend stopping by if you're in the area.
Amazing food and portion sizes were incredible. We enjoyed the Brussels and bacon appetizer followed by the pecan crusted salmon with the crab scampi on top and front porch salad with chicken. We will definitely be back! Loved sitting outside on the porch!
High quality food in a charming setting. Staff were cheerful, accommodating, and eager to help. We tried the crab dip and brussels sprouts - I had the burger - all were fabulous. Do note the restaurant is literally in a house, so it is more open and less private than a restaurant with booths. Prices were steep, but felt worth it due to quality.
Beautiful house & superb Brussels sprouts!
Had the Brussels and Bacon as an appetizer and the Pork Shank dinner. The brussel sprouts were charred perfectly with a lot of flavor to it as well. The combination of it with the pork belly just made it perfect. The pork shank was fantastic but what made it very special was the creamy seasoned grits that it sat on. I've missed that it came on grits when ordering since I normally don't like grits, but very glad I missed it since it ended up being probably the best grits I've ever had. Over all everyone in my party enjoyed their food. With the friendly staff and great atmosphere to go along with the great food I'd highly recommend it. Looking forward to the next time I'm in town to visit again.
Finally trying it out. we will come back as soon! Great food and atmosphere… Macy is an awesome waitress!
We had an amazing experience at the Front Porch yesterday. I thought that a reservation would not be required and was not correct for prime dinner hours. We were offer a high top in the bar area but went to the bar instead and that turned out to be perfect. The bartender was very gracious, friendly and made fanastic featured drinks that you should try on your own. Sal, the Chef, prepared mahi mahi with crab imperial that is to die for. That was on top of homemade cabbage and bacon along with potatoes. My wife had New York strip with crab scampi that was very good. All was delivered by Sal and when he returned to the bar area, we complimented him on the awesome meals. All other employees were very friendly as they chatted with us as the created custom drinks for their patrons. I can't wait to back back and highly recommend this restaurant to everyone. Thanks Sal.
I live out of state but this was the 2nd time my parents have treated me to brunch at The Front Porch. Both times I was impressed. The ambience in nice, the adult beverages are fantastic and the food is undeniable tasty. On this visit I had the lump crab egg benedict and it sure hit the spot. Real crab (I wait to have crab when I come home to MD), perfectly poached eggs, and fresh fruit. Simply delicious.
Charming decoration. Similar to what one sees in Charleston, SC or Savanah, GA, but only just over an hour from Alexandria, VA. Delicious brunch started our day trip to this region.
Ordered takeout and have eaten at front porch many times as well, great atmosphere and food
Went for a late lunch/early dinner on a Saturday, the food was great. Our server was very good, polite, friendly and very efficient. The atmosphere is, we will definitely go again.
This was my first time at this establishment. A friend and I were looking for a place to sit and half bite to eat with some conversation and we saw this place as we were walking. We didn't have a reservation but the lady was nice enough seat us out on the porch because other events was going on inside. I ordered the shrimp and grits and my friend had the chicken and waffles. The shrimp and grits was awesome! I really enjoyed it. The seating outside was comfortable. The atmosphere was great. The service was even better. I will be returning again
Dakota made our entire experience. We were a party of 12 and her engagement with us elevated the entire experience. The food and drink was delicious but still second to the service. Thank you, Dakota!
This is definitely our favourite restaurant in all of Leonardtown! The food is always great and the staff extremely friendly. Menu has a wide range of options including legit gluten free options which are appreciated as someone who is severely allergic! We recently went to celebrate 'Galentine's Day' as a big mothers and daughters group- it was decorated beautifully and everyone had an exceptional time!
This was on my list for a while to try. I don't get over this way much, so we decided to try it out while here. We did not have a reservation but still got seated. The place looks nice and has a full bar and a good menu. The food has some different combinations of things together. Some pickey eaters might not like it. All the food was cooked correctly and tasted wonderful. There is a kids menu as well. The food was cooked fresh and hot. I would give them 8 out of 10 stars.
Stopped by this place today. Saw the reviews so decided to pay a visit. Did not disappoint. Awesome service and food.
Went for dinner tonight and the service was amazing and the atmosphere can't be beat. The food was very good the only thing stopping at 5star review is I ordered the pork shank and half of it was steaming heat and the other half of the same shank was ice cold which was very odd. The waitress was very quick to offer assistance in rectifying the issue. I highly recommend the Brussels with Bacon.
Went to this nice restaurant while in town for a football game. It was good to stop in this nice quiet place to relax and have some good food. The people was wonderful and it's wonderful view as you sit out to enjoy your meal. Stop by you won't be disappointed!
As always, the food and employees are exceptional!!! However, a few small things that I think would have brought me to give a 5 star review. 1st, our table had honey and some other stick substance right where my husband would normally rest his arm. 2nd, we were there at 1 p.m. on Sunday, I guess we did not realize that they only serve brunch until 3 p.m. on Sundays. There were only 5 lunch items... 2 seemed more breakfast than lunch. 3rd and may just be my personal thing... cheap mismatched silverware. For brunch, where many would want coffee, the silverware had no spoons... 2 forks and 1 knife. We both got the Bacon cheese burger... delicious!
The Front Porch has been a popular hometown restaurant for years in the heart of St Mary’s County. In my first visit with family I was impressed with the depth of the menu and the taste of our meal. The service was very good and the restaurant was kept up for the most part (outside deck needs a wash). The only reason I’m giving it a four is because the minute details that could make it a thoroughly nice restaurant are overlooked. Examples being the plates and silverware could be upgraded to fit the branding of the restaurant and the carryout syrup package with my meal could be change out for a cup of syrup.
An old farmhouse in Leonardtown with good food and a nice wine and drink list. Megan was our server and even with their small AC issues she took care of us in a timely manner. I will visit again when in the area.
Burger was in the top 5 of the best I've had nationwide. Yeah I know its hard to believe. Git it medium-rare and it was nicely (and gently) charred on the outside (see pic). Also had mushrooms put on it. Flavor was surprisingly just right. My friend got the salmon-based salad and it looked amazing (see pic). Service was a little iffy.
Ate here on a beautiful Saturday evening with my wife and kids. We reserved a table on the lower deck so we could bring our dogs. Would recommend the crab dip and half moon capresse for starters, delicious. I had the rockfish with crab cake and a smoked old fashion. Highly recommend the fried brussel sprouts with goat cheese, absolutely delicios. Food and ambiance were outstanding, service was very friendly. Our server brought water bowls for the dogs. My only complaint was service was very slow. My cocktail took 20 minutes to receive, 20 minutes between apps and entrees. Overall about two and a half hours for dinner. If you're in a hurry you might consider other options, but would absolutely return the next time I'm in the area and wouldn't hesitate to recommend for great setting and we'll executed food.
Not blown away by Front Porch. Service was slow and the meal underwhelming. My salad was fast food quality in presentation and ingredients used-shredded cheddar and flavorless diced tomatoes with stale, bready “tortilla” strips on a bed of wilted romaine was the majority of the taco salad. The condiments and sauces were served to us in individual plastic containers which is terribly wasteful/ not environmentally friendly and ugly to boot. I cannot recommend when there are so many other options in the area.
Food and service was good but they really really need to take time to clean. The restrooms were gross with broken tiles and grim on every surface. After leaving the restroom, I noticed that the grim continued throughout the restaurant. Please take some pride on having a beautiful location and serving good food.
Crab cakes very salty couldn’t taste the crab, didn’t finish it. Scallop salad just ok. Very loud and dark. Nice waitress.
For was good, but condiments are cheap! I get better syrup at McDonald's. It ruins the vibe when you get plastic corn syrup filled "syrup." And the ketchup was super cheap. Tasted bad.
Stopped in for brunch and ordered the chicken and waffles. For the price, it was extremely disappointing. It was a frozen Eggo waffle with a single chicken tender on top. Nothing about it felt fresh or worth what they charge. The bathrooms were disgusting, and the entire restaurant felt dirty. Overall, it seems like management has stopped caring. Would not recommend.
My daughter (18) made a reservation for her and her boyfriend. When they arrived they were told the reservation had been canceled and were turned away. The reservation wasn’t cancelled by my daughter.? You can draw your own conclusions…
I would give this 0 stars if that was a possibility. We have come to the Front Porch for years, but our last visit, under new ownership was atrocious. The couple next to us left without ever receiving their food, our food was not cooked all of the way, we waited an hour for our food and it was not edible. As sad as it is to say, because we have been coming here for a long time, we will not be back.
‼️‼️MAGGOT IN FOOD ‼️‼️I am absolutely appalled by what happened during our visit. There was a MAGGOT in our crab dip. Not a questionable piece of something—an actual maggot, alive and moving. When I calmly called the waitress over and showed her, she didn’t apologize, didn’t show concern—she just asked if I wanted anything else. I placed the maggot on a piece of the crab dip bread so she could bring it to the kitchen or a manager. Instead, she told me “it’s okay” and pushed it back into the dip. I was in shock. No manager came by. No apology. Nothing was comped. We just left. This is beyond disgusting and the complete lack of accountability or basic hospitality is unacceptable. I wouldn’t come back here if you paid me. Eat here at your own risk. Very disappointing, as we loved eating there in the past but never again! (I have poised a screen recording of Live Photos with proof on Yelp!)
HORRIBLE experience! Made a reservation for my 40th birthday, because I always loved coming here. But the experience we had yesterday has me never wanting to come back. Between the time it took to just get ice for the drinks that were brought (why was ice not served to begin with?) And the food being cold, overly salted and just all around awful. Talked to the manager and she said we had some people call out(which I totally understand) but also stated that the workers in the kitchen are not normally working in there....ummmm then why are they cooking the food?!
