Afternoon Tea at The Landmark Hotel

Had an amazing time with my friend and our families on a Sunday afternoon. From arrival and until we left Agnieszka, Helmi and Kamel made us feel really special. Their customer service is beyond perfection, they have really good knowledge of everything on the menu and I must say this is the place to consider for afternoon tea... obviously the incredible staff but also the fantastic Winter Garden setting & the variety of the menu made me prefer The Landmark to F&M. Looking forward for another visit there soon. You must keep in mind though that for busy times you need to book well in advance.

A good friend of mine turned 40, and I decided to take him out for a surprise afternoon tea experience. The Landmark did not fail to impress; the setting is beautiful from the moment you walk in. Greeted by the pianist, walking up the stairs was beautiful, adding to the ambiance. We were escorted to our tables, and our waiter, Anth (studying hospitality qualifications), was very welcoming and jovial. He explained the process to my guest, suggesting certain teas he thought we might enjoy. His recommendation, the Landmark blend, hit the nail on the head, making all the others taste inadequate. We tried the winter blend, Assam, and a fruit mango-infused blend, but the Landmark signature blend stood out. The sandwiches were abundant, and our waiter, Daniel, made sure we were fully stocked up. The sandwiches included: 1. Cucumber 2. Smoked salmon 3. Egg Mayo 4. Coronation chicken Honestly, the sandwiches were not mind-blowing; the salmon was a bit basic, needing a balance of flavor. The cucumber was very refreshing, the egg mayo was great, and the coronation chicken, although slightly drier than I would have liked, was complemented with delicious walnut bread. We ended up eating three sets of sandwiches; yes, we were hungry. The warm, fluffy scones were served with strawberry jam, cream, and a chocolate hazelnut ganache (similar to Nutella but far nicer). Honestly, as a simple person, the cream and jam were perfect; I wasn't too keen on the ganache, especially after three sandwiches. The pastries were packed and taken home. I wish I could tell you about them, but his kids gobbled them up instantly, and I doubt they even touched the sides. We felt very comfortable at the Landmark, and the service was impeccable. Even though we weren't the typical clients for afternoon tea, we were treated with great respect and not made to feel like little piggies as we stuffed our faces with refillable sandwiches. For that special occasion and to treat yourself, I highly recommend the Landmark.

The best afternoon tea I’ve had hands down. The atmosphere exuded elegance and class, and the food and service matched this. I went for my wife’s birthday and from the minute we walked in the staff were so accommodating and friendly towards us, always being at hand to help and assist us in any way. I would like to personally thank Eufelia, Rodica, Elena, Roshian and Dexter for making our afternoon experience one to never forget. From refilling us on our sandwiches and beverages to the personal touch or bringing my wife a birthday cake to celebrate her birthday, the staff at the winter garden made this one of the best experiences we’ve ever had. 10/10 on all fronts

I booked afternoon tea here for my sisters birthday, we had the perfect experience. This is an exquisitely beautiful place with wonderful staff who are devoted to making your experience special. I want to sincerely thank all the Winter Garden staff who helped make my sister’s birthday special on 18th June.

Atmosphere and service was 10/10. Food was chefs kiss, wasn’t able to eat everything, as we got a second helping of the finger sandwiches- had to take the desserts to go - need to go back and try their other menu. Definitely recommend this place. We visited 4th June 2022.

We had a delightful afternoon tea at this beautiful hotel. The Winter Garden is stunning and the food shows that the chefs are worthy winners of their recent Bake Off award. Service is impeccable we were offered refills of sandwiches and tea which is not always the case on other famous London hotels. The staff are charming and give the impression of really wanting guests to have a memorable experience. Thank you.

The afternoon tea was delicious: as many rounds of sandwiches as you desire with good vegetarian and halal options; 2 types of scones with a choice of jam, clotted cream and chocolate spread; beautiful and tasty desserts. The best afternoon tea in the prettiest setting. Everything was fresh, warm, filling and indulgent. Huge selection of loose leaf teas to choose from. Overall a very luxurious experience - perfect for a special occasion like a birthday.

A fully halal afternoon tea with impeccable service. A big thank you to Sofiane, Ahmed and Mohamed who looked after us to a very high standard. The coffee was great. Sandwiches and pastries were good but atmosphere and service topped it. I would definitely recommend this afternoon tea.

Yesterday my mother and I attended The Landmark Hotel for festive afternoon tea and just wow. We go for an annual afternoon tea around the festive period in London, we’ve been to the big names like Ritz, Savoy but The Landmark Hotel was in a whole other category. The whole experience from entering to existing the hotel was magical. All the staff are so attentive and try their very best to make your experience at The landmark magical. They cater to all your needs without a single hesitation. All the staff were so polite, kind and friendly. Just from observing others whilst sitting eating our afternoon tea we could see everyone was receiving the same level of care and attention. Now the food that was served at afternoon tea was so fresh, truly mouth watering compared to theirs competitors they hit the nail on the head. Fresh, tasteful and well presented. The staff offered on many occasions if we would like more sandwiches, beverages, desserts. Hands down the best scones my mother and I have tasted in London, they have mastered the taste, freshness and topping options to fit all needs perfectly. My mother and I couldn’t finish all the desserts so we asked for them to be packed up to take them home with us as we did not want to waste them. Again the desserts were parcelled up with care and attention. On our way out of the hotel, we asked for a cab to be called as it was raining as normal in England, but, again attentive and fast action. The footman gave use addition bags for our afternoon tea to be placed in for hand comfort, again staff being extremely attentive. Now we paid £198 (including tax, service charge) for two festive afternoon tea to be seated at 3.00pm. Was it worth it? Considering we’ve been to their competitors, it is actually worth more in our eyes. The freshness and actual flavours of the food were miles better than other top festive afternoon teas we have attended in London. Would be return again? Yes, whether for afternoon tea again, dinner or a room to stay in for the night (as a luxury treat) because the whole experience was special and we were made to feel valued, heard and acknowledged throughout, which some of their competitors lack.

My first time in London and first time for afternoon tea. What a wonderful experience! Our server, Anca, was so attentive and took such good care of us. The tea, champagne, and food were amazing as well as the pianist. The afternoon couldn't have been any better! Thank you!

Beautiful champagne brunch at a landmark hotel in London. The lobby is stunning and creates a wonderful first impression. We enjoyed the Sunday brunch and afternoon tea, and the spa facilities are also excellent. The property is beautifully maintained, well organised, and supported by a professional and trustworthy team.

Amazing tea options and the taste was something i had never had before in a positive way. They offer halal chicken sandwiches and the sandwiches overall are really nice. Unfortunately i was let down by the cakes as they were not to our taste and not something I’d recommend but the scones and spreads were amazing. Overall the experience, location and atmosphere is really worth the visit. Maybe not one you’d come to often but one to visit once and I’d recommend doing that. The staff is really helpful and polite. The winter garden looks amazing and YES if you love tea you will get some of the best tea here, but the cakes are a let down and we’ve eaten better cakes at other afternoon tea hotels and considering the price as this is on the very top end, you’d hope the cakes are also nice but overall it was great and even though the cakes were not to taste it was overall a great experience.

The High Palms High Tea at The Landmark London was an absolute highlight of my visit to the city. From the moment I entered the magnificent Victorian atrium, I was captivated by the majestic ambiance and the elegance of the towering palm trees. The architecture and the natural light streaming through the glass ceiling create a magical setting that is truly one of a kind. The combination of fine china, gentle piano music, and attentive yet unobtrusive service made the experience flawless. The selection of delicacies, from the delicate finger sandwiches to the beautifully crafted petit fours, was simply exquisite. The freshly baked scones with Cornish clotted cream and homemade preserves were a particular delight. This is a place where elegance and indulgence meet at the highest level—I highly recommend the High Palms High Tea to anyone looking for an unforgettable experience in London. A dreamlike escape in a breathtaking atmosphere!

The food was just okay, nothing extraordinary considering its a 5 star + the prices! Seemed like they were short of staff and the afternoon tea area (winter garden) is little cramped. It was definitely not a five star restaurant experience!! Wont recommend.

We spent a nice afternoon at landmark in a rainy day. The food is decent and meet the expectations, very similar to Plaza. Service 10/10. Champagne goes well with lox sandwiches.

Superb afternoon tea, great service from Ahmed. Sandwiches, pastries and scones were perfect. The 125 year anniversary was so good, we purchase some for home! One star lost for the 12.5% discretionary service charge - stop this shoddy practice!

More cakes than sandwiches unfortunately. I think the Landmark needs to get the balance right. Impossible to eat so many different baked goods so I would have preferred a few more sandwiches. A bit of a different experience from when I last visited several years ago - gone is the lovely trolley of teas for you to choose from and everything is on a menu now. However, our waiter was great and made us feel very comfortable.

The atmosphere was great but the high tea was very basic. It was 3 of us and you can get two varieties of tea pots; but the range was limited & taste was not great that one of us didn’t even bother asking of a new type of tea. I didn’t get the feeling of an elite experience. What saved them from a very bad rating is their friendly staff who always had a smile on their face.

The reception and welcome system is very bad and disorganized, also the system of timeout and table delivery is not polite at all and does not match the luxury of the place, the service is very bad even though it is paid, the service is not organized, following up on the table and cleaning it and providing the tools is not fast we have to order more than once and this is very bad, the service staff and pouring tea are not professional at all. I liked the place very much but the service and the way of reception and departure are primitive and bad and have nothing to do with taste.

Indulging in Afternoon Tea at The Winter Garden Restaurant at The Landmark London was a delightful experience. However, a minor letdown was the unexpected charge for the champagne menu, an oversight that detracted from an otherwise enjoyable experience. Given the premium pricing, a more consistent replenishment of the scones would have been appreciated. Additionally, the restriction on taking leftover scones for takeaway, while a minor detail, affected the overall sense of customer flexibility. Despite these nuances, the Afternoon Tea was still very good, highlighting The Winter Garden's commitment to culinary excellence and providing an elegant space for a leisurely tea indulgence.

Been here and visited couple of times before. This is the first time feeling underwhelmed. First at a not busy afternoon it took them 15 minutes to take our tea order. Also, selected occasion as a birthday celebration throughout the whole afternoon there were a few times people were getting candle with a small sweet and a happy birthday song playing but not for our table. Till the end of the afternoon tea experience I was getting the bills without asking and the POS machine was given right of in front of me without any communication from the server (feel like just pay and go that’s it)

The afternoon environment was great, however the service did let it down, the waiters were too busy walking around and were not very attentive with the customers. Once we got our first set of sandwiches and desserts, the refills were only on finger sandwiches, which then I asked if they had any egg sandwiches and the waiter said he will find out, but never really came back. The desserts are not refillable even though you are forking out almost £160 for two, the money is not an issue, if the service would be good, then we were left waiting a long time, until I had to get a attention of the waiter to have a different tea. The experience and environment is great but not worth money and the service was not exceptional, I have been to other establishments for afternoon tea and it was very impressive, the waiters were attentive and made sure everything was taken care of, there was no explaining which teas would be great or no recommendation made.

Lovely teas, sandwiches, and cakes. However, the service was poor. No one offered to take coats and bags, very slow service; it so long for them to bring milk, the tea was cold. Every time we needed service it was a long wait. Lovely ambiance but not worth the price and I wouldn't go again. Automatic service charge wasn't welcome and I didn't notice until I'd left.

I went here for afternoon tea with my friend and the service was far from great. The food and tea (when it eventually came out) was brilliant as usual. The only reason I have given 2 stars and not 1 is solely because of the kindness of the manager and a waiter called Yousef. We were seated at 1pm and not acknowledged for 35 mins and finally got our afternoon tea 45/50 mins later. I asked to speak with the manager and he knew that the service was not up to the standard of the hotel. The service here really needs to be worked on.

The building is magnificent and the atmosphere is good, however, positive experience ends on this. Sandwiches were bland and of little choice. Pastries were of poor choice comparing to other 5 star hotels, the waitress Alina was stroppy and argumentative for no reason. Scones are served in a sack ! Yes, in a sack ! I mean why ?! I found it very off putting. They were stale by the way. Never seen anything like that before. Won't come back.

The staff were exceptional and the venue itself was stunning. However, considering the price, the experience fell short of expectations. While the coronation sandwich was delicious, the scones were merely average, and the desserts lacked variety and were unremarkable. For the price point, we anticipated a more impressive culinary experience. The non-alcoholic drink was disappointing, and the absence of pastries was surprising. Even the hot chocolate lacked the usual touch of whipped cream and seemed watered down. If it weren't for the outstanding staff and beautiful venue, the overall rating would be significantly lower. Other afternoon teas with better menus.

I enjoyed the afternoon tea there, but I felt the price wasn’t justified by the level of service. When I first arrived, the staff simply handed me the menu without any explanation. I assumed that was just their standard procedure—until I saw them thoroughly explaining the options to another customer. I then realized the staff seemed more attentive and enthusiastic with guests who ordered alcohol. If you're considering having afternoon tea there, you might want to order alcohol to receive better service. Otherwise, you may be better off choosing a different restaurant.

I’m very disappointed by how I was treated by this venue. I paid £75 to attend my sister-in-law’s bridal shower but was unable to go due to being genuinely unwell. Her sister kindly explained the situation to the venue on my behalf, but they refused to even consider a refund or partial credit. What makes this even more frustrating is that I work in a caring role and look after sick people for a living. I would never put others at risk by showing up unwell, especially at a celebratory event. Despite this, the venue showed no understanding or flexibility, which I find incredibly disheartening. I fully understand that policies are in place, but when someone is clearly unwell and the circumstances are explained respectfully, a bit of compassion goes a long way. Sadly, that wasn’t the case here. I would hesitate to recommend this venue to anyone planning a special occasion. This venue clearly values profit over people. If you’re thinking about booking here, I strongly advise you to look elsewhere. There are many places that treat guests with basic human decency — this is not one of them. The booking was made under the name “Aliya Elawad” in case you would like to kindly refund my money.

Where do I even start?! My friend reserved an afternoon tea for three (my birthday celebration), and she arrived around 16:15, 15 minutes before our booking. Upon her checking in, she was informed that the table was not ready and to wait. She was not told to be seated at our table till past our booking (believed to be 16:40). I arrived a few mins around that time. As soon as John (our initial waiter came) he immediately without any pleasantries accused the entire table to be "late" and informed us that we'll be getting all the food together as we need to leave by 6. We completely were understanding of the rules that tables need to be readied for dinner after 6 and appreciated that food will come all at once, but we found the way he communicated that to us initially was in such rude manner as if we were not paying customers. When making our order, we informed him that my friend does not eat fish. He said he will change that for something else. None of what he promised actually happened, the sandwiches came first which included salmon for my friend. The drinks came a little after. There were barely and waiters around for us to flag down and at some point the new waiter (bless him) had to look after many tables by himself. The sandwiches ran out after the second refill (this was half 5). Meaning they don't even portion it for each table and some eat more than others for the same price paid. Around that time, my friend was expecting the birthday tart to be brought out for me but that took ages to happen and John rudely said "you need to give me specific eye contact for that"????? What the hell does that even mean! That tart was the only nice dessert they actually had. The others were disappointing at best. Closer to 6 (but not quite) we ordered tea. At this point there were 4 other tables still around us who were having their afternoon tea. Those took 20 mins to come which ran past 6. When John came to clear the table he said we'd need to leave and I explained that we were still waiting for tea. He rudely suggested we shouldnt have ordered close to 6. That is completely understandable if not for other people still around us still eating and chatting. It wasnt 6 when we ordered the tea but it took ages to come just like everything else. I honestly felt so little in that moment. To top it off the supervisor Victoria rudely passed the cheque on our table when there was a cheque already there and we were waiting to pay. It felt like a "get out of here" gesture. I was wondering what we did to deserve that service but now looking back, all the other tables had some men sitting and I dont believe they had the audacity to treat those tables like they treated us fearing the lashback. We did not once make a scene or shout or disrespect anyone who worked there. The afternoon tea was £70/person and you'd expect the utmost service but you could get a better one literally anywhere else for cheaper. I'd like to make note that the nee waiter who i cant remember the name of and Hamza who took our payment were very respectful and kind and apologised to us perfusely when they werent at fault. None of the others did with sincerity. We discussed all the above with the manager who apologised but not eeally understood how bad the service was and tried to persuade us to stay for coffee and desssert on them but we refused as why would we want to stay in that place for any more second?! Some of these waiters need to be retrained on how to talk to customers especially in such establishment. If you want to actually have high quality service afternoon tea then go to The Ritz or Jumeira hotel. The only nice thing here is the view.

We went and had afternoon tea on Saturday 10/8 and we all got food poisoning that was so terrible, we have never experienced anything like it. We had the halal option and within 24 hours we were all extremely sick. One of us even went into labour as a result. Avoid at all costs (especially since the cost is so overpriced)

Having afternoon tea at the landmark had been on my bucket list for a long time. My husband decided to treat me for my birthday, but it was such a disappointing experience, I almost felt embarrassed for having such high expectations. Firstly, before arranging the reservation, I called the winter garden and explained it was for 2 adults and 1 child (toddler). They told me to book online for 2 and to write in the booking note that there would be a toddler attending too. I followed these exact steps, but on arriving, the staff didn’t know where to place us, with the reason being that the booking was made for 2 people. I explained this was what I was told to do and had placed a booking note. They just nodded their head and eventually placed us directly behind the piano. 30 minutes had passed, and couples either side of us that had come in after us, had been seen to and served with their afternoon tea. My daughter was starting to get cranky at this point too. The waiters/waitresses just seemed to be rushed off their feet and didn’t even notice that we were waiting for this long. Eventually we grabbed attention of a waiter, who called (I presume the manager), and apologised for the wait. She came with a note pad and asked what we wanted. There was no explanation of the menu, what the afternoon tea consisted of or anything. The afternoon tea was quite basic, I’ve definitely had better elsewhere. But I wasn’t expecting anything extraordinary from the menu, but it was the service that was the biggest let down. Even when we were being served, we didn’t have a set waiter/waitress, different people were coming to drop different parts of the afternoon tea off. On the booking note, my husband asked me to put on there that it was my birthday celebration. He asked for a cake to be brought out at the end (without me knowing). However, again it felt like they had forgotten, so he had to remind them, and again they were confused in regards to whose birthday it was. All in all, it was a shocking experience. I will definitely not be coming back again, nor will I be ever recommending to anyone. On a day that I wanted to really celebrate and enjoy with my little family, I ended up feeling really disappointed, upset and just absolutely appalled. Yes the views of the palm tree were lovely, the pianist was very good, but the service made it a very disheartening experience overall, and I will never forget that.

Sadly, it did not live to its claims. For context, I live less than five minutes walk from the hotel. My favourite, actually the one and only place for afternoon tea, is and will continue to be Fortnum & Mason. We went to landmark as a friend was very very keen to visit. Atmosphere ok, although we were not too keen on ‘self-playing piano’ but… Too many people using their phones without headphones, but having conversations on a loud speaker, so much so, that I had to ask one of the staff to say something to people next to our table. She did, so well done and thank you. Sandwiches left a lot to be desired. Please offer options without truffles! I hate to tell you this but many of us do not like the taste. Also, cucumber sandwiches are made on the quick. What I mean by that is that the cucumber is sliced lengthwise and much thicker than desired/appropriate. So, when a bite is taken the big slice starts to fall out. I’m not bother by tradition, just about what is better to eat. Perhaps seasoning would have been helpful too - it was absent. Salmon, zero seasoning, zero horseradish, zero capers cream… I checked it; utterly bland and pointless. Scones were a very sad version of an English scone. Factory made scones look better. Yet again, zero taste including Christmas spiced mandarin. Did someone forget to add mandarins? It looked like. Cakes were ok, but rather small and overcrowded with so many different flavours that made them difficult to distinguish what was I actually eating. My favourite Mont Blanc Tart - I honestly couldn’t taste chestnuts. It all felt like ‘style of substance’. I guess, that’s what Landmark clientele prefer. Sad. Tea selection. This is my main bugbear. This is the poorest selection of teas I have ever seen. Landmark folks, how difficult is it to add few more? Where was Lapsang, for example? I had Formosa Oolong and it was a poor selection, lacking in taste and utterly forgettable, unpleasant drink. Also, don’t bring cakes, especially ‘warm scones’ whilst we are still eating sandwiches! I know you feel it’s easier for you to dump everything on the table at once, but that’s not how it’s done. Or at the very least ASK if we are ready for the next bit. Finally, do not expect your guests to eat cakes from the same plate salmon or chicken was on! I asked for this to be changed, but it shouldn’t be my job to monitor your ‘service’ Our bill was £237. Landmark, you owe us a refund of at least £150! Truly sad, unhappy, and disproportionately blown up ‘the best afternoon tea’ in London. Sooooo not!

The Landmark Hotel is a beautiful venue, but the service was very disappointing and not what I would expect from a five star establishment. I had booked afternoon tea for last Saturday for my birthday celebrations, and the team assured me in advance that it would be noted so I’d receive the usual “birthday treatment.” So I did not bring my own cake to aviod wastage. On the day, even though the host acknowledged me as the birthday guest, nothing was arranged, no birthday plate, no candle, no moment for my friends and I to celebrate. I did not want to raise it on the day because I was embarrassed and did not want to ruin my birthday. The next day when I raised this afterwards, with the reservation team, I was told it must have been “forgotten,” which is unacceptable for a hotel of this calibre. What made it worse was the response I received, a generic automated apology that did not address why I was treated differently or offer any real accountability. For such a renowned hotel, this level of service and follow up is simply not good enough. The venue itself is stunning and worth visiting for a drink, but I would not recommend afternoon tea here and certainly not for a special occasion unless you want to be forgotten about! If you’re looking to celebrate and be looked after properly, I’d suggest choosing somewhere else there are lots of wonderful hotels in London who care about their customers and their experience.
