This is easily one of my favourite Japanese restaurants in London and a place you can drop into whenever the craving hits. The food is top quality, with a thoughtfully curated menu that caters to both vegetarians and meat lovers. The flavours are spot on, the portions are satisfying, and the overall experience never disappoints.

Let’s first start with getting the table process, we had a reservation for 6 pm , and we arrived 10 minutes early. For which we were very politely asked to wait at the bar which we did. However , even after it was past 6 we were not given the table. Now I personally don’t mind waiting for 10-15 mins if we came unannounced, but given this place who comes in the top rows of London fine dining I would have preferred not waiting for my table post my reserved time. After asking for the table twice we finally got it at 6:15 . So this was a bit disappointing. However, everything went uphill going forward. The waiter who attended us knew his job and answered all our queries with patience and most importantly a smile. We ordered the premium tasting menu which had very elaborate 4 courses and the taste was to die for. From the starters, the sashimis, the roasted fish( which was the best) and the beef fillets , all of them hit the spot. And to finish , came the desert platter which had a Roka plated chocolate cake with green tea in it , something I have never tasted and hit the right notes. All together the bill was 300£+ which is definitely in a pricier side , but I won’t mind given the amount and quality of the food served . The best Japanese inspired tasting menu so far !!

Excellent atmosphere and service. The menu is quite short, but you can focus on the flavors. This is a two-story restaurant with the same menu. However, the ground floor is more intimate. It's primarily for dates. Very low red color lights and playing a dj. The ground floor features a beautiful bar counter with an open kitchen and bar. The service is very customer-focused. The food was fresh, tasty , but I was not say it’s beyond the space. It’s high quality cuisine. The general impression is more experience, atmospheric great date time My rating 4,7 for this lever of the restaurant

I’ve been dining at ROKA for years, and it never ceases to impress me. The quality, consistency, and attention to detail are truly exceptional — it’s one of those rare restaurants where every visit feels like a special occasion. The menu celebrates Japanese cuisine in its most refined yet approachable form. The otoro is simply out of this world — melt-in-your-mouth texture, perfectly balanced flavour, and always incredibly fresh. The pork ribs are equally remarkable: tender, caramelised to perfection, and bursting with umami. Every bite reminds you why ROKA has earned its reputation as one of London’s finest dining experiences. Service is always impeccable — attentive without being intrusive, with staff who know the menu inside out and take genuine pride in what they do. The atmosphere combines energy and elegance in perfect harmony, whether you’re seated by the robata grill or in a more intimate corner. ROKA is not just a restaurant — it’s a benchmark for how modern Japanese cuisine should be experienced. After so many years, it remains one of my absolute favourites in London, and I can say without hesitation: it never disappoints.

Amazing Australian Wagyu (halal). The sashimi selection was very well presented along with the nigiri selection. The desert was spectacular. The steak was tender and well cooked. Overall an amazing experience.

Amazing quality sushi and food all around. The ambiance is amazing from the inside seating to the outside. Dimmed lights inside and great patio seating to enjoy beautiful weather. Wafu Salad - absolutely delicious, crispy and cold! Skewers (Beef/Chicken) - juicy and very tasty 9 Piece Nigiri - chef's choice and super high quality! Only downside was the amount of time it took to get our food and for the staff to come back to our table to check if we needed anything else such as refills or more food. They took forever which dampened the experience.

Tried this place since it’s so close to my hotel. Highly recommend. Great food and service. I enjoyed all the dishes I ordered.

Glad we booked as the restaurant was really full when we arrived for lunch. The staff were attentive and friendly, adding to a nice, relaxed atmosphere. The food really was exceptional. The truffle oil on the yellowfin sashimi really added to the flavour of the dish. Likewise, the spicy sauce really did compliment the edamame beans. Really enjoyed the selection of sashimi and the black cod gets so many great reviews and as I found out, deservedly so. However, the standout plate for me, was the lamb cutlets with Korean spices. Also, the Roka dessert platter was a great way to finish off the meal. Each dish was served at just the right pace, which was commendable, given that the restaurant was full. I can highly recommend Roka Mayfair to anyone looking for that special meal experience.

Excellent service. The restaurant managed my dietary requirements so positively and professionally, from enquiry to the service on the evening. The waitress was very pleasant and professional. The food was delicious. We went on a Saturday night at 6 and it was not too busy. Definitely recommend ROKA

Excellent food and big choice. The sashimi were great. The barbecued Madagascan prawn were over cooked and the manager kindly removed it from the bill. The black cod was amazing

We had the Premium Tasting Menu. It’s £90 per person but it’s so worth it. They give you so much food and all of them are great top quality food. From sushi’s to deep fried to grilled to steamed and desserts. All were amazing and we would happily go back to do the same menu again and maybe get more on top of that if we’re not already super full yet like last time. Service is amazing too, everyone was helpful and nice even under pressure, they were really busy but they try to accommodate.

There are not many restaurants that offer the perfect bar-side experience, but for couples, the bar seats are the ideal choice. The menu has numerous exceptional dishes, yet the ribs and black cod, in particular, are truly outstanding. The staff consistently provides superb service, professionalism and attentiveness.

Meal for two at 6:30, at the counter. Can recommend the counter - really good to see the kitchen making the food. Food was really good. Maybe we ordered well, but nothing disappointed. Service was good. Attentive enough, nothing to complain about. Didn’t have much to drink (nursing a bit of a hangover), just a glass of wine, a couple of sakes and a pair of non-alcoholic drinks. Bill was £170. Not terrible, but I could imagine easily spending £300 with a bit more food and a few G&Ts and wines.

Booked the group dining room for my birthday, Grace who I liaised with to make the booking was super helpful and answered all my questions. The dining room itself is beautiful and perfect for group dinners/celebrations. The service was amazing from the start, all the staff were lovely, super helpful and accommodating. We all had the seasonal tasting menu, it’s great because there’s no faffing around with everyone ordering they just start bringing out the food. Food was great and was brought out in a timely manner, we were all stuffed by the end of it you get so much food for £70 tasting menu!! I had a birthday cake that I wanted to cut up and give out to my guests to take home and they gave me food boxes for this and also packed up the left over food we had for us to take home. Overall a lovely experience, would definitely recommend. Great food and great service.

A very nice dinner date! Food is very good, the place is great and the atmosphere is amazing. The service is also very nice and they really care about the customers - we felt they were treating us super well. Definitely on the pricey side (we spent 250£+ for two ppl) but very much worth it. Would recommend!

12th June 2024- 7pm Reservation -Birthday Celebration- I came here to celebrate my Birthday with my Mum and what can I say Edyta, our waitress and the rest of the team were amazing. 10/10 service Edyta was a lovely waitress her attention to detail was top notch. She looked very smart in her uniform and her friendly approach was relaxing. The Food was 10/10 The Atmosphere for a Wednesday Evening was busy but chilled. Smiles all around The restaurant was very tidy and again the food was excellent. Order the chicken wings and dumplings they were a big hit. Can’t wait to go back Thanks again Edyta ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Upscale restaurant in Mayfair. We made reservations in advance for the counter which turned out to be pretty cool watching the restaurant’s open kitchen. We had the seasonal signature menu (77 GBP pp) which was more than enough + 4 great cocktails. All dishes were delicious and special. The prices are fair for upscale rest’. A lot of reviews mentioned the slow and poor service. I wouldn’t say it’s poor but it definitely can be slow. Don’t let it ruin your experience and give one of the manager a notice about it (and hey maybe you’ll get free cocktails.

Honestly, one of the best sushi experiences I’ve ever had! The staff at Roka are the happiest and most welcoming people — they made me feel so comfortable from the moment I walked in. The food was amazing, every dish full of flavor and beautifully made. You can tell there’s real magic in the chef team — everything they create is just perfect. Such an incredible experience, I can’t wait to go back! 🍣✨

My partner booked the Valentine's menu for us and the food was fantastic, the hamachi and the black cod were the highlight of the night for us. Our server, Callum was also very knowledgeable and provided fantastic service. I can't wait to come back

Had a lovely family dinner at ROKA Mayfair. Great atmosphere, lively but still relaxed, and the staff were really attentive throughout. We shared a few dishes and everything was spot on — the yellowtail sashimi was super fresh, the black cod just melted, and the lamb cutlets were full of flavour. The soft shell crab maki was a favourite at the table, and even the grilled asparagus was surprisingly good. Really enjoyed the whole experience and would definitely recommend it.

We got the lunch menu available till 6pm and was still able to order at 5:56pm which is brilliant if you work late! The sushi was great very fresh and the lots of variety too. With the premium lunch you get a filet of steak which was lovely and tender but was not a great portion and the peanut sauce for the starters salad could do with a lot more seasoning. Otherwise I loved the service and great spot for amazing quality sushi in London !!

My friend and I were here for dinner last night. The food was amazing we had seasonal tasting menu and everything was well presented and tasting amazing. The service lacked a bit of attention, the food arrived before the wine we ordered and we had empty wine glasses a couple of times and had to wait to refill them, the second bottle of wine I was not asked to try, being a new bottle I think it is normal to have it tried before serving and also no one did a check after the food was served. Also the wine was not opened in front of us and I think it is only fair to open the bottle in front of the customer. But overall it was a good experience . Highly recommended !!!

Roka Mayfair has been my go to spot every time I’m in London where I get my Japanese food fixed. I’ve always loved the ambiance, the buzzing atmosphere, and the consistently great service. However, during my most recent visit, I did notice a slight drop in the quality of some of the dishes I’ve regularly ordered over the years. It’s a little disappointing, especially when you’ve come to expect a certain standard from a place you love. It does raise the question of whether it’s a one-off or something that needs attention. That said, the overall experience was still enjoyable. The vibe and service were as great as always, and I’m hopeful the food will bounce back to what it used to be.

A reservation is a must, and you can’t be seated earlier than your scheduled time. The service and food are amazing, but the chairs are quite close to each other—something to consider if you prefer more space. بسم الله اوله و اخره

I recently visited this trendy Japanese restaurant and had a good experience. Despite not having a reservation, I was friendly greeted by what seemed to be the manager. He quickly instructed a hostess to find me a table, and she seated me at the counter right by the highly frequented kitchen passage - according to her the last available spot. Although I noticed several empty seats that could have accommodated a solo diner like me, I accepted the spot without hesitation as I had no reservation. The waitress who took my order was friendly and helpful, taking the time to explain the menu and make recommendations. I went with her suggestions: the crab and black cod dumplings, seabream, and added the warm eggplant salad and mochi for dessert. All dishes were nicely presented and delicious. The atmosphere was good, the food was great, and the service was responsive and efficient when needed. While the prices are on the higher side, the overall experience made it worthwhile. Bottom line: A pricey but good Japanese restaurant with great food, good ambiance, and attentive service. I’d return.

The ingredients of each dish were very fresh but seasoning was not quite there. Fish dish which was supposed to be savory than sweet was seasoned very wrongly. But I was very impressed by the desserts.

Service at this restaurant was great tonight for our anniversary. The food is beautifully presented and the black cod definitely stole the show. The flavours were amazing! Beautiful restaurant and layout. Had a table overseeing the grill and it was very cool seeing the different dishes being cooked and plated. Very friendly and helpful staff. Our waiter was helpful in answering all our questions and made the experience enjoyable. She recommend the beef ribs and it did not disappoint. We did seem to have what looked like a small fly in our cocktail. We spoke to one of the staff members which then called over the manager who had a look and without any hassle got us a new drink.

Lovely venue right in the middle of Mayfair. Beautiful interior and pleasant atmosphere. I would recommend booking as it’s always full and bear in mind they will ask you to wait outside until their actual opening hours (12pm). They have a great menu and food is good. Their team need more training in my opinion: the hostess was obviously trying hard to be polite and friendly (or perhaps we caught her on a bad day) and the waiters were not much help with the menu (for example, I didn’t realise they had different prawn sizes of tempura dish until my order was served, so I’ll know for the future). No Oolong tea was a bit disappointing as well. Would be great if there were more tea options to support the Japanese spirit of the place.

One of my friends was very keen to try this place out so we made a reservation in advance to come here for dinner on a Saturday night. It got filled up pretty quickly after 7pm so always make sure to make a booking instead of walking in. Honestly I had no expectation for the food to taste extremely well given how it brands itself as a premium Japanese place when in reality sushi quality in London is very inconsistent. It's safe to say that this was definitely not the best sushi I had, and there are so many places elsewhere serving better quality of food with half of the price. So just to make it clear that you come here not for the food solely, it's also the experience and feeling rich for once. Between my friend and me we ordered a 3 sashimi selection to share and it's £43 per person for 12 pieces of sashimi (octopus, tuna and yellowtail) and then 2 pieces of eel sushi, as well as some tuna tartare with caviar. Sashimi was fresh, but I couldn't really taste anything from the caviar. I then also ordered the soft shell crab roll which came in 5 pieces for the price of £16. It was okay, not outstanding or anything. My friends tried other stuff like California rolls, the signature yellowtail kampachi salad with yuzu-truffle dressing and some prawn tempura. We all agreed that it wasn't the best sushi we have tried so far. The grand total for my own order came to £68. Service was okay overall, one waiter did annoy us a lot because he kept coming around every 5 mins to check in whenever we were in the middle of a conversation and we didn't want to be disrupted. They were also very quick to take our plates away and came checking every 5 mins to see if we had finished our food - definitely felt like we were being rushed out of the restaurant which was an extremely big minus point for me. Although after checking we didn't want dessert they didn't try to rush us further which kind of compensated the bad experience previously. Vibe was good, modern and chill and I liked how you could see the chefs grilling the skewers. But personally I wasn't a big fan of this place and wouldn't be interested in coming back anytime soon.

For the quality of food, Roka is a bit overpriced, but still within the realm of affordability. Certainly a better bargain than many other places in the same general price-point. The only down side is that service is erratic; while a manager who took orders was fantastic, and the wait-staff are lovely, the turn-around time for things like order-taking and sending over the bill was INCREDIBLY long. Like...ridiculously long. That said, the food is great, the decor massively chic without being poseur-trendy, and the experience is all-round worthwhile.

Really good selection, we had the premium taster menu amongst us. Delicious, well presented, and overall a very nice experience. The table location will make a difference to your lunch/evening, so do some thinking and request a specific table based on your requirements.

The food was amazing. We had the Premium menu with Kobe upgrade. Good quality and large quantity. The main problem was that we felt all the time like we were pushed to eat fast. The waiters kept bringing food to the table even we told them to slow down a little bit. If you are having Kobe meat, you’d like to enjoy it warm and at your pace. The atmosphere was nice, but the music too loud to hold a normal conversation.

Laura W

Service was very slow but staff were polite. Food was pretty and well presented, but not as good quality when comparing to similar style/priced restaurants. We ordered simple options and the restaurant was quiet but some of the dishes took over half an hour to arrive. Overall I would say not great value for money as the prices are high.

F
Frank Lam

Really disappointing experience overall. I had booked in advance and arrived slightly early, so was asked to go grab a drink at the bar (which was full), so went across the street to Ivy instead. We arrived back at Roka about 5 minutes before our reserved time slot. We were told to wait a bit longer which is fine since we were slightly early. After 10 minutes I reminded the staff we were still waiting, he acknowledged and said he would be back to take care of us, this never happened. After standing around and waiting a total of 25 minutes past our reservation time slot and seeing customers who were behind us in line get seated, we asked to speak to the manager who asked us to wait another 5 minutes. We then saw some of the staff clear off the table which were then given to us. We were frustrated at that point, but since our friends had been raving about the place we decided to try and enjoy the rest of our evening. The experience after we were seated was not good at all, it was a busy night and service felt chaotic, inattentive and rushed. We were hoping the food was going to be the redeeming factor, but we were overall very disappointed. The food was not bad...but not great, just mediocre and for the prices they charge it was just not worth it. Would not recommend this place as there are many other great choices around this area.

My first visit on 13/6/25 at around 3pm until around 5:30pm has left me feeling somewhat unsatisfied. Whilst the food was absolutely amazing and so was the presentation, the service was absolutely below standard as the servers just does not pay attention to the tables or their customers’ needs. 1) We waited around 30mins for our first round of drinks if not more as our food came before our drinks which we had to chase. 2) We were left sitting without a bottle of water for a long time, we had to ask for water which took ages. 3) We ordered second round of drinks which took another decade and the server forgot my friend’s drink and brought 2 out of 3 drinks. 4) We had different servers in the span of 2.5hrs and it was apparent there was no proper handover or comms between the staff. 5) We had to keep chasing and asking for the drinks. 6) We had to ask twice for the bills. 7) At no point did anyone ask how the food was or if we needed any drinks. Noone paid attention to the table. I have worked in hospitality before and it is imperative you pay attention to detail and can identify the customer’s needs without them asking. Overall, food was brilliant but the service was a total let down.

For Roka standards: Pretty poor. Poky little place, should not accept booking for bigger groups(6-8 persons) If they cant handle it. More of a meet ya friend place for quiet snack. We were with top clients. Pretty embarrassed. table too small -- food took ages, cudn't even fit the food on a table. only booked 2 months in advance. So expected more especially from Roka. I'm a big Roka fan but this was my worse experience by far. Food average (Sashimi was nice), Service lousy, staff attitude lousy. Pretty dreadful experience and to think we paid for it(ard £300 per head) lovely, charming .. well done Roka.. I wont go back here again - nor should you.. there's better Roka's out there.. Either that, or get rid of the manager. trust me here.. as i love Roka: CW/Charlotte st/ Aldwych.

Nicoletta at the door was very unwelcoming. No welcome. I found green items in my egg plant dish There was a hair in my prawn tempura. They only had one soya sauce for the whole outside area. Not a good experience.

Absolutely horrendous food. Looks like they wanted to kill us with the food we were served. Feeling absolutely sick in the gut after eating this and seeing the rest of it. Highly recommend staying away if you don’t want to end up with food poisoning. All that was offered was for it to be taken off the billing after nearly being killed.

A

Food was decent but the front door staff working from 5.30-7.30 pm (9/12/2025) was exceptionally rude to us. Tell her that you can’t say that your service was good if that is your attitude to us. We are paying for a close to £200 food but we weren’t 100% happy with the food quality given the price point and asked nicely whether we could have the 14.5% OPTIONAL service charge but she was being very condescending to us saying that we are not being nice with a sarcastic tone because we made the next customer to wait for an extra FIVE minutes for the table. I don’t need a reason to get it removed because it’s optional otherwise don’t state that it’s optional. She was the one who gave the bill late to us. What a very stupid reasoning from her. I think you should advise her to change her attitude if she wants to work in the service industry.

I had an extremely disappointing experience at Roka Mayfair. I booked in advance specifically for a table, yet on arrival I was directed to sit at the counter. I clearly explained that I had booked a table, but was then offered a high table by the bar — again, not what I had reserved. After raising this again, I was eventually seated at a small table right beside the toilets, despite there being several larger tables visibly available in the restaurant. I was told by the blonde waitress the larger tables were reserved for “big groups,” yet I could clearly see a white couple seated alone at one of these larger tables. This made the situation feel uncomfortable and discriminatory, as I could not understand why I was being treated differently. I had to ask to be moved three separate times before being given a more appropriate table. To make matters worse, the food service was poorly coordinated. A side dish arrived 15 minutes before the main course. I had to ask for it to be reheated, and when my main finally arrived, I then had to wait another 10 minutes for the reheated side to return. For a restaurant of this calibre and price point, this level of disorganisation is unacceptable. Overall, this was one of the most unpleasant dining experiences I’ve had in Mayfair. I expected professionalism, fairness, and proper service — unfortunately, I received none of these.
