2-4-1 Tuesdays are a really good deal, especially if you want to try their cote de boeuf (£55). Even though it says it is to share between two, we found the quantity good for one person. Steaks were perfectly cooked and perfectly seasoned - we ordered one medium and one medium rare. We also enjoyed the onion soup, fries and the dauphinoise potatoes (although more garlicy than expected). We had the apple tatine for dessert, the portion was decent, but it felt extremely sweet. Good selection of wines, including dessert wines. Friendly staff, but way too busy, the place could probably use more staff. Tables are very close to each other. Slightly disappointed that our steaks arrived first with the dauphinoise potatoes, 10 minutes later the fries and 15 minutes later the onion soup. Overall it was a good experience, but it could have been great. You should make a reservation as it gets very busy.

Great little authentic French restaurant. Service was good and fast. We had snails, French onion soup, Sunday roast with confit duck, and pollock with baby potatoes and spinach. All the food was delicious, nicely seasoned with lots of herbs and butter!

Very pleased to have found this delightful little french restaurant. I had a flat iron steak which was cooked to perfection. My wife also had a beautiful duck dish. For me though the steak was the highlight - not too many places truly know how to do it properly. I would say overall probably slightly on the pricey side compared with other places in Tooting Market but ultimately not unreasonable, and worth it for the quality of food. The service was very good too

We came on a busy tuesday evening as they were doing 2 for 1 steaks. Didn’t book and managed to get a table straight away which was great. We both ordered the Flat Iron Steak, medium rare and medium well and they both came out delicious. We both also ordered the garlic sauce which was amazing!! Definitely recommend and will be coming back. Service was also great from everyone, thank you!!

Lovely cosy French bistro inside Tooting Market. We went on a Wednesday to make the most of the 1kg mussels frites deal for £15. The restaurant is very small with some tables outside in the market. Ambience is nice and the service is excellent. Food was authentically French and cooked beautifully. The beef dripping chips were to die for! Crunchy on the outside and fluffy inside. Recommend the mussels however these are steamed without a white wine / cream sauce but still delicious. Escargot we’re plump and sizzling in garlic butter. Chicken liver parfait was creamy and rich, would be nice to accompany with a chutney. The confit duck leg was standout, skin beautifully crisp and the meat succulent. Interesting take to have in cream with peas but it worked marvellously. Lots of bars inside Tooting market for a drink before or after with happy hour offers.

Fantastic authentic French restaurant tucked away in the heart of Tooting Market. Offering a limited menu, the chef certainly delivers in spades and the service is second to none. The food was absolutely delicious and prepared with great skill and care. The steak was cooked to perfection (medium rare) with just the right amount of rock salt added before being served. The French onion soup was spot on and the tarte tartain and creme brûlée were outstanding. My wife had the duck which was simply stunning. This is definitely one to try with the added hustle and bustle that is Tooting Market.

Our evening at Bordelaise was an unforgettable culinary delight. We had reservations for 7 PM, but due to traffic, we arrived late. The manager was exceptionally accommodating, quickly finding us a table despite the delay. From the moment we tasted the food, we were in awe. We started with the scallops and fennel, which were perfectly cooked and seasoned. The special of the day, melon with burrata and seasoned ham, was a refreshing and flavorful combination that set the tone for the rest of the meal. The highlight, however, was the côte de boeuf. It was exquisite, with a delicate texture that melted in our mouths. Every dish we tried was a testament to the chef's skill and the restaurant's dedication to excellence. We wholeheartedly recommend Bordelaise and are already planning our next visit. This place is a gem, and we can't wait to relive this pleasant experience. Luka&Aleksandra

Our second visit via the First Table app. We loved the food and service. My flatiron steak was perfect as was my mushroom starter. My husband loved his onglet steak and real French onion soup. Will def go back.

First time here as have been meaning to come for a while and didn’t disappoint. Beef for the roast was perfectly cooked and the duck confit was delicious too - I asked if they could do it without bacon and they could which was great. Everything is cooked when it’s ordered so there was a wait but that wasn’t an issue as it was a good vibe so just enjoyed our wine. I can imagine if it’s very busy there would be quite a wait for food, but that’s better than it being churned out or reheated in my opinion. Will come back to try more things!

Went here for valentines night. It was exceptional. I had the saucisson as a starter and it was potentially the best starter I’ve eaten in my entire life. The depth of flavour was sooo good that after I’d eaten the brioche and meat I picked up the bowl when no one was looking and drank the broth like soup. It was phenomenal. Shared the cote de boeuf as a main. The meat tasted good quality and was tender. Melted in my mouth (medium rare). Loved it. Had crème brûlée for desert which was beautifully made. Had a satisfying snap on the crust. It was such a great meal. I’m so pleased. Definitely going to go back. Service by Roda was also friendly and helpful. Fantastic meal

We had a lovely time here tonight, our meal was superb and the staff were very knowledgeable in both food and wine. We were not rushed as you would in so many other places on a Saturday night. Thank you for a great evening and we will be back!

Had a great meal here! We had quite an early reservation and it was quiet which has perhaps contributed to us having a better experience than some of the other reviews on here. Recommend the snails as a starter. We shared the cote de boeuf - it was great but we got a discount due to an offer that was on . I’m not sure that we would have felt it was value for money if we had paid full price. That being said, it’s the most expensive steak on the menu so I can’t comment on the value for the others - but I would be happy to, and plan to, go back to try other dishes on the menu. Also shout out to the waitress who was friendly and welcoming and made sure we had a good experience

Lovely french restaurant in Tooting Broadway market with all the classics on offer. Great bustling atmosphere in the market, food is great quality (they really do cook steak blue when asked!) and fantastic cocktails. Only slight downside is the seating opposite the restaurant although is a cosy settling, can be a little on the cold side.

This is a lovely French bistro in the middle of Tooting Market, a definite find! The menu isn't extensive but the food is delicious, a good choice of wine, champagne etc, the desert was delicious. A great stop for a meal or for a drink. We would definitely return.

Went for lunch on a quiet Wednesday, very unassuming little gem tucked away in Tooting market. £10 steak and frites deal was very filling and cooked to perfection. Good starter sizes and the dessert (apple tatin) was so beautifully made - the flavours were immaculate. Would go again!

Incredible and hospitable staff!! Food came out amazing and full of flavour! FOH was incredible and the atmosphere was beautiful! I would definitely come back here again.

This is in Tooting Market - really liked it - one lady service but she was super attentive - we were a party of 7. My steak snadwich was excellent..the others had French onion soup. Liked it all. Not very big so could see it getting full. Would go back.

Had the Sunday Roast, we ordered the chicken and the Sunday Roast burger. Both were excellent. The gravy is amazing and the burger bun was great. The staff are really friendly and the cocktails are inventive. The tatin old fashioned was exceptional, a dessert in a glass. Will go again.

Fantastic medium rare tender rump steak, cooked to perfection. Beef dripping chips were out of this world. Chocolate cake was a a mud like consistency, it was ok. Service was friendly and polite, but the tables were a bit tightly packed, i could feel the back of the customers chair behind mine

This place never let me down. Since I’ve discovered it, I’ve enjoyed every single dish. Menu is not huge, but quality is extremely good. They also have amazing offers in place, 241 on steaks on Tuesday is a must! Definitely recommended.

Tooting Broadway market has many great little places nowadays and Bordelaise is certainly one. Good food and surprisingly large seating area for the location. In our group we ordered two (very reasonably priced) flat iron steaks, both medium rare. One was perfect, the other was rare (close to blue) - for a steak place to undercook a flat iron is not great. Yes, most places opt for undercook since it can be thrown back on, but this is sliced steak being re-cooked, so it will not retain tenderness. The surprising highlight was the ox cheek stew, but note that the mash comes with carrots and bacon. This really should be stated somewhere in the menu. The creme brûlée was nice and great portion for sharing.

2 for 1 steak deal on Tuesdays! The deal includes the steak of your choosing, fries, and their signature bordelaise sauce. Fries are probably one of the best I've tasted in London - the beef dripping adds tons of flavour. Sauce and steak was also great - I asked for rare, but this was definitely closer to blue, but still very tasty. We also had the French Onion Soup (which was too peppery for my liking), peppercorn sauce (which was actually not peppery enough) and a chocolate cake as dessert. Service is a bit of a miss - understandable as they've recently expanded and they get extremely busy when the deal is on. They forgot about our starter and only brought it out afterwards, and the whole experience was slightly chaotic. Overall, still excellent value for very good steak in London. Definitely a must visit in Tooting!

A little squashy in the inside portion but also cosy. Food was fine, no complaints but nothing to rave about either. The stand out was the beef dripping gravy that came with the steak and chips and the truffle mayo. I would eat here again.

Good French good, was very impressed with their dessert, chocolate and walnut moelleux and enjoyed the crème brûlée with that tiny of orange. The duck confit was good but a bit too salty for me. Very friendly staff. Will come back in the future

Very good French selection with tasty food but some slight issues. The place had really tasty food, this for mains and for starters. I recommend the snails and the soups which were both just about as good as I had in France. The mains (the duck, burger and steak) were good but the only issues were that the bread given for the starter was dry and old and the spinach given to us was crunchy. This was owed to, but my assumption, it not being washed properly. The service was good and the waitress was friendly but as the restaurant was in Tooting Market, there was a lot of noise around that broke the intimacy the restaurant attempted to create.

Steak fries (200g Onglet steak with beef dripping fries)- £15 until 5pm. Fatty and soft and overall not really any issues - maybe a little bitter. Classic onion soup - wouldn't recommend this as was very watery with little seasoning and flavour.

A
Ashlee de Klerk

The desserts definitely bolstered this score. They were amazing, quite possibly the best tarte tatin I’ve ever had. The ratio of pastry to apple was spot on, the caramel was perfect and not sickly sweet and the ice cream was delicious. The mains were average with the bordelaise sauce packing less punch than I expected and dauphinois was a bit on the dry side.

r
rachel bagnall

This place has good value offers and value for money is great. Would recommend the burrata and peach salad however the mussels sauce was very soup/water like without much flavour at all. Felt a bit rushed to leave but appreciate they want the table back (even though there were still available tables in the restaurant)

N
Nichi Gentile

I had dinner at this place and I also get 30% off food. Steak was amazing among french fries and salad, sauces were so delicious. Ella or Emily (I think, not sure) the waitress who was in charge of my table, is a real asset in this place, she always take care of the customers and she's good at recommending the dishes, like the blueberry creme brulée dessert she recommended for me was so delicious. Only cons the space inside is so small, but cozy and welcoming environment at the same time.

F

Classic French bistro with delicious steak&fries. Chocolate&walnut cake was quite heavy, I struggled to finish it, better share it in 2 or ...go for the Tarte tatin! Currently they are also featuring roasted honey fig with creme fraiche as special dessert. Good service in a cozy restaurant. Busy Broadway market can be a maze, this restaurant is next to Pan Asian corner (in case you get lost)

Visited for Sunday lunch, all was delicious apart from the meat. I think I just got unlucky, the meat was extremely fatty and cold. Having said that apart from that the roast itself was delicious and made up for the disappointing meat (would have rated 5 if it wasn’t for the meat). My boyfriends steak was delicious. Will definitely be returning for the steak!

K

Independent french restaurant in the market. They now have a lunch deal which is very tasty. I got takeaway and it was great. Nice lunchtime treat. Took about 10 mins to prep. The steak comes with a red wine tasty gravy thingy. The beans were an optional extra.

Lured in by the 2 for 1 steak offer on Tuesdays seen on Instagram. French onion soup was overly peppery, sirloin was chewy and really hard to eat. The sauce was salty and greasy also. Only pro were the fries which were crispy and light with good flavour. Might come back for Moules Frites night for the chips but not for the steak again.

G
G D

3.5 rounded down. Overall, it was good but not great. We ordered escargot, onion soup, rump steak, flat iron steak and cote de boeuf. The starters were delicious but surprisingly, the rump steak and the flat iron steak were tastier than the cote de boeuf. The grill marks on the cote de boeuf tasted burnt so that overwhelmed the taste of the whole steak. For dessert, we had the chocolate and cherry mouilleux and the apple tarte tartin which were both delicious.

I usually love steak everywhere I try it, but Bordelaise in Tooting wasn’t great. I went for the Tuesday, buy one steak get one free offer, which I think is great value for money, so I don’t mind the visit for the deal. However, I asked for medium rare, and received a rare steak for the first one, and a medium steak for the second one. I know it is hard to get it perfect, but in the middle of those two would of been perfect! Staff were friendly, helpful, but not attentive enough.

Bordelaise can be fantastic, and I’ve had excellent meals there before. I’m hoping this was just an off night, but based on this visit, it didn’t quite justify the price. I’ve been to Bordelaise in Tooting several times over the years and always enjoyed their steaks—especially their Tuesday flat iron steak deal, which used to be excellent value and consistently good. That’s why I chose to go back yesterday and brought three people with me who hadn’t been before. Unfortunately, this visit was disappointing. The restaurant still has a great location in a buzzy market and has had a strong reputation, but the experience didn’t quite live up to what I’ve known in the past. We arrived at 7pm, and although the staff were not rude, the service was noticeably inattentive. We had to ask for drinks, and generally didn’t feel looked after. When you’re spending somewhere between £60–£70 per head for a 90-minute meal, you expect a bit more attention. If the food had been outstanding, I’d have happily overlooked the service—but the steaks themselves were below their usual standard. They were cooked exactly as requested (medium rare), but the cut of meat just wasn’t great, especially compared to previous visits. My guests agreed and rated their meals 5/10, 6/10, and 5/10. Since then, I’ve spoken to friends in the area who’ve also stopped going, saying it’s become a bit hit-and-miss—which matches my experience this time. Bordelaise can be fantastic, and I’ve had excellent meals there before. I’m hoping this was just an off night, but based on this visit, it didn’t quite justify the price. If you go, fingers crossed it’s one of their good days.

I came here for the first time with my friend, we drove one hour to come try the steak and we were so disappointed. For starters we ordered French onion soup and it tasted so bland and watery like hospital soups , it was very terrible. We tried to give the place a chance and we ordered steak. My steak was cooked as I ordered but my friend ordered medium well steak and he got well done cooked steak and burnt we asked to change it and they were rly nice and changed it. But the steak was very dry overall and we were not so happy about it. We also ordered truffle mayo and they gave us a very small portion of it. For dessert we ordered crème brûlée but it was bad as it was very watery and the caramel was burnt. The only good thing on the table was the canned coke. We were very unpleased and wouldn’t come again.

We jumped on a 50% discount offer on instagram and thought we’d check out Boroelaise, reviews ok and just down the road. Service was ok, unfortunately food wasn’t. We may have been unlucky, our experience started with one of the waitresses rushing through telling another table not to eat the crackers although I’m not sure why, one of our group ordered salmon starter, but left most of it due to it being greasy, we had the tapenade which was nice. We all ordered the flat iron steak as the waitresses recommendation. It arrived cold with chips that tasted like they had been cooked in old oil. We sent it back, and chef was good and started the two we returned again which tasted 100% better, but if he knew the previous was poor you only get one chance to impress a customer. We also ordered salad which never arrived. List prices for the quality we received is expensive, with a 50% discount it’s ok. The did remove one of the steaks from bill, which was good.

Rib eye steak was cooked well . We spent £125 on 2 starters ( olives and mushrooms ) 2 rib eyes ( with chips and a token leaf /salad) 1 desert and 2 glasses of wine . Value for money ? Cramped little restaurant , the staff were polite . I came home and cooked .

Save your money and go to Flat Iron. Made the mistake of going to this place from a recommendation on tiktok, the advertisement for 2-4-1 Tuesdays is a con as if you didn't go at this time they are robbing you blind, with a starter main and dessert coming around £45/£50 bearing in mind if you come with a group it will only be more. Furthermore the only thing I had that was decent was the starter salmon tartare aside from that the steak was unseasoned and ordered medium rare, turns out to be just rare. The Cream Brulé was crap, the cream was not thick at all the large portion doesn't mean anything when the custard has more of a consistency of whipped cream. In between all of this the starter took 10 minutes from ordering, the mains took another 40 minutes and then the desserts took 12 minutes bearing in mind it was just a Cream Brulé it was atrocious. Everyone was so loud you could barely hear the person next to you. I would not recommend it at all. Also, the only reason why you get a 2 star for service is because your waiting staff was very friendly and nice. To make it as clear as I can, I can make a better steak than you and I spent my money with your restaurant expecting you to at least out do an average person cooking a steak, but, clearly you can't even do that even though you supposedly specialise in french cuisine.

I had a bottomless cocktail and confit duck leg. The service is great, the waitress was super attentive, unfortunately the food was really underwhelming, the duck was super dry and unseasoned, even after using the table salt and pepper, it was not good as the duck texture was tough and dry. there was a mix of guanciale and petit pois in cream underneath the duck leg which was too rich but also unsalted. I also had three margaritas (on an empty stomach) but im still sober, they tasted really watered down. I wont be back unfortunately bc the food doesnt reflect the price.

I visited the Tooting branch on Sunday, 21st September, just before 6 PM with my son, and unfortunately, the experience was far below the standard I expected — especially from a restaurant I’ve supported regularly in the past. We were seated and then ignored for quite some time. I had to chase a staff member just to place our order. I ordered a children’s meal and the £10 roast promotion, only to be told by the manager, Jay, that I couldn’t combine them due to a “multiple promotions” policy. This made no sense — the children’s menu isn’t a promotion, it’s the only option available for kids. The lack of flexibility or understanding was frustrating. The children’s starter — vegetable sticks — was also disappointing. We were told cucumber wasn’t available, and what we received instead was parboiled carrots (likely leftover from the roast prep) and cold snap peas. These were clearly not fresh or appealing for a child, and my son barely touched them. Despite the restaurant being quiet, we waited over 30 minutes for our mains. Another table seated after us was served first. I was told mains aren’t brought out until starters are finished — but no one had even checked in with us. The lack of basic attentiveness was very noticeable. When the food finally arrived, it was underwhelming. The dauphinoise potatoes were cold in the centre, and the Yorkshire pudding was lukewarm. I mentioned this at the end of the meal, but there was no real apology or attempt to make things right. When I asked to remove the service charge due to the poor experience — which is my right — the manager did so, but again, without any acknowledgment or goodwill gesture. Just a shrug, essentially. Following this, I submitted a formal complaint, hoping for a more thoughtful response. Unfortunately, I received a defensive reply with zero empathy and no accountability for the issues raised. It felt dismissive, as though customer feedback is an inconvenience rather than an opportunity to improve. As someone who has dined here often — including for birthdays and special occasions — I’m genuinely disappointed. The food, service, and attitude toward customers have clearly declined. Based on this experience, I won’t be returning.

Had been looking forward to eating here but was very disappointed. We were sat in a corner with boxes of wine piled up next to us making the small space even tighter. On a busy night like valentines surely this should not have happened. Starters of scallops and mushroom were nice. Mains of steak were underwhelming. Was expecting more after the hype on social media. Dessert was tarte tartin and was horrible. I couldn't even finish it. We were not brought the olives and bread nor the water we requested. On the whole wouldn't recommend or visit again.

K
Kan

This is the 2nd time I’ve come here and been disappointed again so sadly won’t be returning again (as both times no resolution) £50 bill (inc service) for two steaks and two drinks as bogof steak (as we were told you have to buy a drink or side to get the deal) but then charged nearly £4 a sauce each (which you need with a steak haha)so guess all added up which would have been fine if the quality was okay. The quality of the steak was awful, defo the worst steak I’ve had and we’ve eaten at lots of steak restaurants. it was definitely not the flat iron medium cut we ordered. It lacked taste, was super chewy and super thick I choked several times and ended up not eating it. Just ate the chips. The staff were friendly and appreciate them squeezing us in. But terrible steak again dunno when it went so downhill.

A
A D

I was disappointed with the quality of the steak. It did not taste or smell fresh, and we didn’t finish the dish because of this. We raised the issue with the front-of-house team, who checked with the chef and told us the steak had been delivered the day before. While I can’t be certain of the cause, the quality did not meet expectations. Unfortunately, this may reflect what’s offered as part of the “buy-one-get-one-free” steak deal. As the main dish was inedible and no suitable resolution was offered, this warranted a one-star review.

R
Ruth

Revisiting Bordelaise was a pretty sub-optimal experience. We were seated at a corner table next to stacked chairs, reminiscent of dining in a storage area. The table was covered in a sticky substance, causing glasses, my phone, and paper napkins to adhere to it. The stickiness of the surface made dining both unhygienic and uncomfortable. The waitress explained it was due to some sort of moisture issueafter the tables are cleaned but did not offer a solution or even bother to bring a new napkin, which had stuck to the table. She expressed her own dislike for cleaning the tables and then she left us to it to eat in a sticky mess. The starters, particularly the duck egg with mushrooms and the snails, were good as was the duck confit main course. However, of the two steak mains, one was not prepared as requested - cooking a steak properly should be a minimum requirement - no?The accompanying frites were overcooked but both soft and soggy which rendered them inedible. When mentioned, the waitress attributed this to them being 'homemade'. The desserts were satisfactory. We were also overcharged when paying our bill and once this was pointed out, it was rectified. I've attached some photos for reference. I wouldn't expect a restaurant where I'm paying £70 per head to fail both in terms of food and service delivery. This is a shame because it would have been nice to have somewhere local to go regularly but it won't be to Bordelaise.
