Opinions de Cock & Lion London
Great pub with refreshing beers on tap. It was a great find while walking outside in the cold.
Just popped into the Cock & Lion after a talking tour of London. It's just behind Oxford Street. This makes it a great oasis from the madness of Oxford street. Really looks
Awesome lunch deal, fish, chips, mushy peas and a pint of diet coke for 13.50. Free wifi and nice atmosphere!
This place is absolutely amazing. We were walking around looking for a place to go and came across this place and they had a table so we sat down and the place was full of locals. The food was great. The beer was great and one of our party wanted a tea so the owner went upstairs to her flat and made one for her awesome customer service.
A great place to sit and watch the football with quite a few tables available. I'd highly recommend booking in advance however. 4 out of 5 for the food however as the chicken I ordered was very small.
Went in late in the evening after a disappointing visit to a certain piano pub nearby. Staff were quick to serve and friendly. Pub had a nice traditional pub atmosphere but was closing soon so i wish I'd have just come here instead. Beer was about on par with other pubs in the area. Not very big inside but has a nice feel of an old style pub interior. Would like to go again when it's a bit earlier and busier.
The best: It's crew and the ambient. Great place to watch a match while having dinner and/or just enjoy a pint. Not the fanciest pub in London yet a pub I'll definitely go back. Update: the ambient keeps no being incredible but if you come can’t not order the hummus (a bit spicy ;) it goes along soooo well with a guiness, just saying :)
Stopped here for a round of drinks. We sat upstairs where there was more space and thoroughly enjoyed the service upstairs.
Amazing service. The pub was very busy so food took a little longer than expected but it was great! Team very friendly and attentive even though rushed off their feet. Food superb. Decor wonderful!
Small pub downstairs but a big function room upstairs with its own bar. The food was pretty good, I had the sausage and mash and the mustard mash was really tasty. The beer range is as expected for a central London pub. Staff were friendly and helpful.
Bar snack available with ideal bud tasting real ale. Resturant on first floor with male amd female toilets on ground floor. Atmosheric decor.
Lovely traditional English pub, upstairs is more quiet like a restaurant, downstairs is the bar. Nice friendly staff, food tasty and service quick
Nice service. Good beer. We stood outside and drank on a Thursday at about 5pm. The server collected the beer glasses left outside.
Traditional English pub with the tv screens showing the football. Enjoyed the Mosaic IPA on draft. Seating outside. Toilets were clean. Press ‘like’ if my review is of benefit.
We booked the Cock & Lion for their three-course Christmas dinner and it absolutely delivered. I started with the shrimp and salmon, which was fresh, well balanced and generously portioned. The flavours were clean and festive without being overworked — exactly what you want to kick off a Christmas meal. The turkey dinner was the real highlight. Properly cooked turkey (moist, not an easy feat), crisp roast potatoes, rich gravy and all the traditional trimmings done right. It felt comforting, indulgent and thoughtfully put together — classic Christmas food executed with care rather than shortcuts. Dessert was a chocolate dish with popcorn, which was a great finish. Decadent without being sickly, and the popcorn added a playful texture that kept things interesting. A nice modern touch to round off a very traditional meal. Service was warm and attentive throughout, and the atmosphere felt relaxed, festive and welcoming — no rushing, no stress, just good food and good company. All in all, a really enjoyable Christmas dining experience. The Cock & Lion nailed the balance between festive indulgence and quality cooking. Would happily return, Christmas or otherwise.
We did Christmas dinner here. I mean, it was amazing. Every dish we got was so tasteful. The staff was so friendly for working on Christmas Day. Will definite be back!
Visited here on 14th Feb , had a table booked upstairs for 4-30. Glad we did as rugby was in so pretty busy . Food( steak and ale, chips peas £19 fantastic. Pint of Landlord , wonderful. Service excellent. Recommend,
Great pint of Guinness and nice vibe in this place. Well worth the visit.
Popped in for a short while earlier. Absolutely loved this spot, the atmosphere was great for a quiet couple of drinks! Highly recommend.
Went in for some food and drinks during the England rugby game. Great vibes and the food was very good! Definitely be back!
Great pub this near Bond Street to watch the rugby, and they pour a mean Guinness. Reasonably priced for area, a firm post-work favourite
Went in for a quick bite to eat and left pleasantly surprised, nice food great staff and an all round lovely pub
I was in the lovely cock and lion pub for lunch with a few of the work lad , Service and staff was 10/10
Went in for a business meeting, had some lunch while we were there and was very impressed! We will definitely be coming back
Came here for a Father’s Day meal to find there was a slight problem with the booking. However, the staff really tried to make things good, perfectly looked after us and the food was absolutely delicious. Will definitely come again.
Had such a great time here! The staff were honestly the sweetest—super friendly and made me feel like I’d been coming there for years (even though it was my first time). Service was smooth the whole way through, and the vibe was perfect. You can tell they actually care, which is rare and very appreciated. Would definitely recommend and probably return way too often.
Great selection of beers! We tried most of them and had a great time.
I have been going to the pub for a while now. The management team is very good with the service and the food is absolutely delicious. This pub has become my local spot to hangout. It had great atmosphere and it gives the vibe of a vintage place.
First time in this delightful pub. Had one drink and found the atmosphere to be very nice indeed. The service was good and there was a good choice of beers and lager. They also had a couple of TVs and were showing the current football match. Very good indeed.
We chose this pub as it was close to where we were staying and stayed local due to the tube strike. It was very busy downstairs but upstairs was quieter. Our Canadian friends had wanted fish and chips - and the food was fantastic. The Manager, possibly called Marta, was a delight, friendly, warm and welcoming and her staff were the same. It is a quaint old pub with lots of atmosphere. The stairs are not for the fainthearted! It's history is interesting Would abdolutely recommend it and we will be back when next in London.
Wonderful food, great pub vibe a relaxed atmosphere away from the hectic hubbub of Oxford Street. I would especially like to thank Jenny and Amy who made our Sunday Lunch a memorable experience. Thank you kindly ladies!
Grabbed the lunch deal earlier today. Lunch fish and chips is a good portion and absolutely delicious. Service was delightful. Will definitely return.
Great beer and service and a very cool chilled atmosphere inside. Looks like a typical London old pub but it's very clean and the bathrooms are very clean. If you get a seat by the window you could sit for ages 😁
Amazing service! Thoroughly recommend. We had a great time before going on for dinner elsewhere. The amazing part was I came back as one in our party ‘thought’ she lost her phone and the barmaid went and searched the cctv for me. Never had that level of service in London and I have lived here 30 years. Turns out another in our party was actually sitting on it!!!
Had a great Christmas Day dinner there. Great food and impeccable service and attention from all staff. Manager (owner?) even went out and ran my Uber down because the Uber was stopping somewhere else besides in front of the restaurant. Highly recommend Cock and Lion !
Absolutely amazing pub. We were walking around after music concert and looking for a place to go for a drink. We choose this place when came across this place. Nice beers on tap, good service.and cool venue with great atmosphere.
We went for a Sunday roast occasion last weekend and we were delighted by the quality and taste of the food! Very generous portions as well! The only reason why I didn’t give 5 stars is because the food took about 35min to arrive. We were not in a rush and they let us know in advance it would take a bit to prepare, so we were not bothered by it, but keep an eye on this if your time is limited. We will definitely return!
The atmosphere is breathing Genuine English pub at it's best as a great hideaway from the rush on oxford street. Great service, food and beer. I had my 6 year old daughter with me which was no problem at all. This is a place that takes a piece of your heart which tells you to go back next time you visit London.
Nice little pub. Service was good. Drinks reasonably priced.
Wonderful pub in London. Soaked in the atmosphere and had a wonderful lunch. Great Burger
Great London pub first a drink. Nice staff and a nice feel to this place.
Hours not as advertised which was disappointing. Arrived at 7 on a Sunday to be turned away because the kitchen was already closed. Edited to add - my husband enjoyed his beers here at other times
Stopped off for a quick drink in the "only pub on Wigmore St." Very small one room bar. Had a Butcombe beer all the way from Somerset. OK. Madge is a little miffed by the service. Barmaid makes Flatima look like a saint. No cider. Flat Coke.
Great looking pub but unfortunately the service and food were not up to scratch. We were hopeful looking at other reviews and overall rating but were let down. Ordered a club sandwich, steak sandwich and 2 drinks. The drinks came out instantly but the food took almost 40 minutes (kept an eye on bank notification after paying) in a near empty pub. There were three tables total when we were there including us. The other two tables were only drinking and playing board games. When the food finally came out, the club was nice but bread was toasted within an inch of its life. Steak sandwich should be moved to the small plates menu and off large plates. It was an open sandwich on the smallest piece of sourdough I’ve ever seen. Lackluster for our first pub in London.
🤣🤣 What sort of pub is that? Only one of the four ales on the board was actually available, no hazy IPA, just the usual industrial lagers — Moretti, Neck Oil and Cruzcampo — and not even a pint of Guinness. The place isn’t nice enough to justify drinking sub-par beer, so I left.
Visited this summer for the first time (I used to live in the neighbourhood) and was surprised a hidden "service" fee that I paid even though I ordered at the bar. One pint and one shandy was £20 in total.
The atmosphere on entry was genuinely lovely — it’s a nice-looking pub with a good overall feel. Unfortunately, the service really let it down. I’m a younger customer and came in for a pint while waiting for some friends. The bartender was fine initially, but later the experience soured. I was briefly on a call on speaker at a very low volume, and while I completely understand that speakerphone calls aren’t ideal in a pub, the way it was handled felt unnecessarily rude. The bartender approached me without any manners and bluntly told me to “turn off the speakerphone.” What made it worse was that other patrons were also on calls or in meetings and were completely ignored, which felt quite condescending and targeted. On top of that, the Guinness pour was genuinely poor — it was poured in one go without allowing it to settle at all. For a pub of this standard, that was disappointing. Overall, a great atmosphere, but the service and attention to detail need serious improvement.
Awfully disappointing. We booked a Christmas dinner in advance and it was a miserable experience. Overall it took 3hr 15min and it took around 90 min before we got any food. I imagine this is not a representative of Christmas dinner at a pub. And probably they were having some issues in the back of the house. The food overall was mixed, some decent and some awful. We never got our food at the same time so we were never eating at the same time. We would have left if we hadn't made a deposit for the evening. The kids were bored and hungry. They never came to check on the drinks while we long waited for our food. There were angry tables all around, living through the same frustrating experience. And there was no attempt to make it right at the end. No comps although there were comps for other tables.
£15.50 for very 3 small slices of Halloumi with garnish size salad, ordered from the ‘large plate’ section on menu…. A JOKE!! barmaid even feels awkward delivering it, Also waited 40min for this disgrace if a salad. Plenty of better options in the area.
Watch out for bag snatchers and keep your bags close. I had my bag stolen and reported to police who immediately closed the case even though the pub has cctv, so watch out at this pub.
