Opinions de Kaia at The Ned London London
Kaia, located inside the iconic The Ned in the heart of London’s City, is an excellent option for those looking for a quick yet satisfying lunch without sacrificing quality or atmosphere. The concept is modern pan-Asian, with influences spanning Japan, Hawaii, and the broader Asia-Pacific region. The menu focuses on poke bowls, sushi, sashimi, and grilled dishes, making it lighter and more contemporary than a traditional Japanese restaurant, while still delivering bold, clean flavours. What makes Kaia stand out is its efficiency and accessibility, especially for the City crowd. Service is fast, the format is informal, and the open-kitchen setting fits perfectly with a business-district lunch schedule. Despite being inside a luxury venue like The Ned, the experience feels approachable rather than overly formal. From a food perspective, the quality of ingredients is consistently solid, particularly the raw fish, which is fresh and well-handled. Dishes are well-balanced, flavourful, and thoughtfully assembled, without unnecessary complexity. Portions are generous enough to be filling, yet light enough to avoid the typical “post-lunch slowdown.” Importantly, Kaia offers a very good value for money, especially considering its prime location and prestigious setting. Prices remain reasonable for the City, making it a smart alternative to more expensive sit-down restaurants or uninspiring takeaway options nearby. In summary: Kaia is an excellent idea for a quick lunch in the City — a tasty pan-Asian experience with a strong quality-to-price ratio. It may not aim for haute cuisine, but it delivers exactly what it promises: fresh food, efficient service, and a stylish yet relaxed environment, ideal for both business lunches and casual midweek dining
The hospitality and service are truly exceptional… and did I mention the fabulous food? Every detail is thoughtfully done, making the entire experience outstanding. Highly recommended. A special mention to the Kaia manager, Lucy, who is truly one of a kind and makes you feel genuinely welcomed from start to finish.
One of my favorites, and I love the atmosphere in The Ned with live music. The semi-fatty tuna is one of the best cuts of fish I've ever had. Every dish was solid. Definitely recommend this place!
Went for a work lunch with a colleague. The food was incredible, the staff were helpful and the atmosphere was lively. Would definitely recommend! Will definitely be going back! Recommend booking in advance as they are always busy at lunch time! We sat on the table where you sit opposite one another and there was a lamp in our faces which wasn’t ideal as whenever we spoke, we had to lean over the lamp 😂. We had four snacks and the crispy duck to share. This was enough food for both of us. I would maybe recommend getting a further dish if you are hungry people. All the food was lovely presented, tasted amazing and no faults at all.
The food was amazing, and our waiter, Prince, was excellent and very well spoken and accommodating. We’d definitely go back! The only issue we had was with the lamp at the higher tables, it doesn’t move and was blocking the view of the person sitting across from us, which was a bit annoying.
Kaia delivers a visually stunning dining experience with beautifully presented dishes and a refined ambiance. The food quality is exceptional, showcasing an excellent balance of flavors and textures. Each plate feels like an artistic masterpiece, carefully curated to excite the senses. The standout dishes I tried were masterfully seasoned, fresh, and innovative—perfect for a special night out or casual indulgence. The only downside is the location of the restaurant, tucked away at the far end of the hotel in a corner, making it a bit tricky to find. Clearer signage or directions could enhance the overall experience, ensuring patrons can easily locate this hidden gem. Despite this minor drawback, the attentive service and exquisite culinary experience make Kaia well worth the visit. Highly recommended!
My husband and I had food here early evening. I had salmon teriyaki and coconut rice with broccoli, hubby had Japanese A5 Wagyu and we shared Nine kinds Sushi. All perfectly cooked would definitely come here again. Service was excellent and set in the most wonderful interior. It was our first time at Kaia and we’ll definitely come back. 🙏
Visited Kaia for a quick Friday lunch with two friends and the food was SO nice! It's a charming little gem in the corner of The Ned. Calm atmosphere and worth the spend. The staff were lovely and I'll certainly be back. FYI: nut free kitchen ✌️☺️✨
Had a superb dinner on a Saturday evening here. We chose to order from the sushi menu and went for tuna sashimi, dragon roll and the thinly sliced wagyu beef. All were exceedingly fresh and flavourful, with the prawn in the dragon roll being the best we had ever tested. Service was on point and the food came relatively quickly. As per all the restaurants on the ground floor in the Ned there is a general buzzy atmosphere with music from the central stage, although you are further away here than others so slightly quieter. For me, that atmosphere is why we keep coming back time and time again here! Definite recommend
A truly special location, in this ancient bank where you can listen to a live band! Really super! Absolutely delicious Asian food. Reservation required as it is very popular! Sophisticated environment, prices in line with a high standard.
I worked in London 7 years ago and came here almost every day for lunch. I had the salmon poke bowl. I just visitted yesterday again and the poke bowl didnt change a bit. Still the best one i have ever eaten (and that includes japan/singapore etc). Please keep it on the menu and never change it!!
Sat at the sushi counter and had the privilege of watching the chefs at work. Nice to be tucked in the corner.
I went there for dinner. It is important to know that there are two restaurants at the same venue: one on the left and one on the right. (Kaia is on the right). Ordering went smooth and food arrived promptly. The waitress took the time to explain what kind of fish each piece was. Only downside is that the venue is quite noisy.
Excellent Japanese/Asian food, fresh and with an amazing taste. The place itself it's always busy but we managed to walk-in . There's was a band playing. Wine list can suit all pockets. We didn't try any cocktail given the current situation but we'll be back!
Fantastic service delivered by the team here. Even though the allocated time was 90 minutes, they have us extra time. The restaurant was understandably busy, and I can see why it's so popular. A great selection available on the menu. I would recommend it to any foodie, as we as those out on a date. It's set within a historic building. I'll no doubt be returning to visit the other restaurants.
We had the best Saturday night! The service was fantastic, the food was exceptional and the restaurant/ the ned has the perfect ambience. There was live music in the middle of the foyer of the ned which was just far enough away to not be loud but created a great atmosphere. We had a selection of hot and cold dishes, the sushi was all fantastic and the hot food was also great. Highly recommend!!!
Very nice food. Friendly and patient staff. Limited range of cocktails but they were happy to make drinks that weren't on the menu too.
Had lunch with a couple of friends yesterday. The food was lovely, fresh, colourful and tasty. I decided to write a review for my blog so took lots of photographs, I've posted some here so you can see what we ate. The Veggie Poke Bowl was delicious. Loved the tempura popcorn. I also tried the Matcha Cheesecake which went down a treat!!! My friend Peter said his Miso was a bit on the salty side. He said the Japanese Chicken was okay. He loved the Crispy Prawns though. The interiors are beautiful thanks to the 1920's decor vibe. Staff very professional. Impeccable service. Ideal if you are visiting St Paul's or you work in the city and have a business lunch. I would definitely go back again.
Sadly I can’t give this restaurant a 6 star otherwise I would. The team is very friendly, from the moment you step in you’ll be greeted with a smile from the host team, the waiters are very attentive, the food is delicious and the management checked on our table to make sure everything is good and we’re enjoying our meal. 100 percent recommend.
We recently visited kaia for the Ivan ramen pop-up, and I must say, we were not disappointed! We absolutely loved the ramen, and we consider ourselves somewhat fussy since we have had the pleasure of visiting Japan a few times. Both ramen dishes were packed with incredible flavours. Furthermore, the service was exceptional, from the hostess to the waiter. We truly enjoyed our night!
Unique experience! The food is amazing with a very beautiful plate presentation. The place is remarkable, with beautiful decoration and many restaurants close to one another.
I was so impressed by the value for money with this beautiful poke bowl. The seating (high shared tables) won’t be for everyone, though I think there are some normal tables too. Very much recommend this dish! Plus enjoying the bar at The Ned afterwards.
One of the greatest Japaneese restaurants in London. The food is fantastic (big fan of the back cod and esparagus). The service is the Ned is always super British, with very high standards. It is a bit pricey but it worths it.
We had the most fabulous birthday dinner for my mother at the weekend which included a beautiful birthday dessert. Our server, Ludovica, was so kind and sweet. She gave her recommendation on how to work through the menu to get the most out of it which we did and we're grateful for as it was so delicious! The nigiri platters were fabulous and the sushi rolls excellent. We also ended up chatting with her about Japan and shared our experiences of visiting the country with one another. She had the most wonderful warmth and I know my mother was so touched to have been able to share her story with someone so lovely. 10/10 for food and service, we will be back for sure.
I came here for the Saturday bottomless brunch and had a lovely time. The food was delicious and plentiful, I was so full by the time I left. It’s great that they have a selection of cocktails to choose from for the bottomless option. Customer service was great and there was a live band singing and playing throughout the whole meal. Nice, chill brunch, I will be back!
We had a delicious meal here, the food was great. I'd also specifically call out K who made us feel so welcome and was such a ray of sunshine! beautiful restaurant tucked away in the less noisy end of the venue!
This restaurant, located inside The Ned, completely won us over. While The Ned itself is already a charming place, this restaurant made our evening even more special. Everything was delicious, but the sushi, in particular, was the standout.
Ahi tuna poke was very good! Cocktails were a little disappointing for the price in terms of aesthetic but tasted good. Sushi was good too. It was great over all but maybe I expected a little more from a Michelin star restaurant
Nice restaurant alas I prefer more comfortable sitting than their bar area which was the only option we were given! The stools are too close together to other diners for me so wouldn’t go the for an intimate dinner. I could tell the lady next to us was following our conversation 😂 The staff appear attentive and very lovely! The food was very good, and fresh! Especially liked the asparagus! Thank you for a nice dinner for me and my friend
Good food in a great atmosphere. Excellent service, and tasty vegetarian options. The vegetable dishes from the grill were delicious and filling, especially the mushrooms! For the price though I would've liked more comfortable seating. (There are no backrests.) There are also no hooks under the bar to hang bags from.
We wanted to like this place, but unfortunately we were not impressed with the food. We tried the brunch on a Sunday afternoon. The presentation is great, the staff is super friendly (hence the 4 stars), but the food is nothing to rave about.
Went today for Brunch, interesting location in a historic bank building. High ceilings and grand location but because of this not an intimate dining experience. That aside the food and service was fine. It was unlimited starters which You could order more if required. Then a choice of mains and a desert platter. The starters came in rounds and the first round a bit underwhelmed but pace yourselves as there’s a lot more to come and gets better as you go..by the end stuffed. Highlight was the okonomiyaki, chicken bao buns, black cod
I've always wanted to experience Kaia in the Ned since I typically dine at Cecconi's. The food is delightful (but not exceptional), and the service is excellent. While it's a bit on the pricey side, that's expected given the venue's location. One peculiar thing was the staff member insisting we sit at the bar despite available tables. When I pointed it out, she moved us to a table instead of the counter, which is worth noting for a more formal lunch setting.
I agree with the previous reviews, the dishes are slightly overpriced. Apart from that the food was tasty. I chose some tuna rolls with ponzu sauce as starter they were really fresh and light. My partner had fried chicken and it was really tasty. As main I opted for the aubergine and some coconut rice which were fine, nothing amazing for the price but it was tasty. My partner had (thanks to the other reviews) the black cod and it was truly the highlight of the dinner, the texture was particularly enjoyable. Finally, for dessert I chose the pineapple with coconut and lime sorbet which was a nice and light way to end the meal, whilst he had a selection of 3 ice creams mochis that he did enjoy too. Tbh the dessert are really overpriced but we were too tempted to try. I would still recommend that place but the room can be quite noisy so definitely not the best for a romantic date.
Met a friend here for a late lunch. Beautiful surroundings, as you would expect from The Ned, and attentive service. The menu boasts ‘healthy eating’. We both had the Rainbow poké bowl - vibrant colours and taste - then shared Black Cod, Teriyaki Salmon, some asparagus and steamed rice. Really well-cooked flavoursome food - at a reasonable price, given the location.
Seated at a large countertop in the large open area of the hotel lobby that contained many restaurants and bars. Asked for seats and told it would be one and a half hours until available, but then went on opentable and booked one available in 45 minutes. Service was ok. The Tuna poke bowl, Teriyaki Salmon and Corn were very nice. I wasn't so impressed with the Edamame beans in chili sauce or either of the Waygu beef dishes. Was a tad pricey for what we got.
Seating was on high stools at bar like tables. Quite tightly backed so no privacy which was a good excuse to chat to your neighbours! Loved the bag hook at each stool. A nice touch. Overall, attentive waiting staff with beautifully presented yet delicately flavoured food. Highly recommend the wagyu beef starter and salmon poke. Ned groni was awesome and the plum sake was out of this world!
The staff were amazing, I could not fault them one bit. Very polite and helpful, food was nice but not wow, prices are reasonable. Only thing I felt uncomfortable with was the squashed tables, no hand sanitiser and no social distancing at all. This was a little scary as Covid is still very much alive
Nice spot for a poke bowl/sushi. The are many eating options in The Ned, and this is perhaps one of the more casual restaurants here. Prices are slightly at a premium given it's The Ned, but it's not too bad. The fish and ingredients are fresh. Great place for a quick bite!
Great place in the City - impressive building to eat, drink and socialise in. Food is very good. The staff were okay though not the most friendly and seemed in a rush or slightly impatient we weren’t ordering quickly enough which was a shame. Overall though a very good experience.
Good place for a Japanese lunch, it’s a bit small and noisy and I can’t get used to the 15% service charges being on the bill in the UK. The poke bowl had too much rice.
Wonderful food, wonderful service. Very well kept volume controlled perfect atmosphere, very attentive staff. Loved it
The Ned has many restaurants all set in a beautiful old bank head office. We ate at the Kaia restaurant - serving Asian/Pacific food. It was delicious. And healthy. We went on a Saturday where you can only choose the brunch set menu. It includes 3 courses. There was no skimping with the food. The waiter was almost imploring/challenging plus to order more food (at no extra cost to us). But you don't need it. The waiter was Thai (I think). He was professional and friendly. And kept on filling our water glasses without us having to ask. I'll return.
I went for the Ivan ramen collab and was distinctly underwhelmed/ disappointed. For £26 for a dish with 4 elements, I expected everything to be on point. The noodles were just ok as was the broth. My egg was fridge cold. The pork was nice though (given the cut) and the kale had a nice dressing. Waiter forgot my drink till about 30 minutes after I sat down. Seems to be a cash cow rather than anything else. I also went on a weekday at like 3pm so was not very busy
Good sushi, great vibes and fun scene. The spicy tuna roll was amazing, the Kaia tartare was fantastic. We didn’t love the otoro nigiri, which is disappointing. The open concept of the resturaunt and hotel interior is fun and vibrant.
Pretty good. Especially if you like eating your lunch trying to peer past a large light fitting that for some reason has been placed right in the centre of the table. Why on earth would you have a large rectangular light fitting on a table? I had to eat sushi with my neck in such unnatural positions that I needed the physio to correct it. Luckily that's all paid for by the company, but still. Lunch shouldn't be about neck flexibility. It should be able connection, discovery, enjoyment. Food was pretty decent though. Better going here alone though because you'll be eating alone anyway.
I was here today. Well.. it feels like a factory… huge factory..3 different waitors the first 45 mins… I was alone in the restaurant.. Food is absolute lovely! Ambiance and all at peak 👌 But service and attention to guest is..sorrry to say.. below ground level. Maybe I was unlucky.. 14 mins to get more wine..new waiter did know what I’m having. And at the end: the maitre d said «I’m sorry». That’s just a few ofbyhe grrsss.. I am very sorry that £200 for 1 person feels like this. I’m sorry.. 😯 If feel robbed. All the best, and merry Christmas Pleaer improve; I was really looking forward for tonight. Unfortunately.
The restaurant is so dark that we saw everyone using their phones to read the menu. Food was good but the prices are extremely high. First time I've had raw teriyaki salmon, which was a surprise. Dining partner likes raw sushi but I like a restaurant with a varied menu. Just can't enjoy spending that much money and leaving hungry.
Food was average at best. We had to send back the wagyu steak. It was cooked well beyond medium. I've never been to an establishment where they would cook wagyu in such a way. The plates with red meat weren't fresh (obviously old inventory). Only saving grace was the miso cod, which was delightful. Otherwise, 1 star for the price we paid. On two occasions (different waiters) ruined our table. The first time, the waiter spilt sauce all over our table and nearly ruined my wife's dress. The second time a waitress cleared our table and broke a wine glass. Fortunately no glass shards harmed us. On both occasions the staff members didn't apologise or acknowledge their error. For close to £100pp spent, I won't be coming back. At a fraction of the price, we had many better dining experiences at Michelin restaurants in London .
I came here a few years ago had the best fish of my life. This time service was AWFUL our waiter was downright rude despite our attempts to win him over with jokes and kindness (is that even our job??) The food was average and overpriced. The atmosphere as a result, not brilliant…. Would not go again.
