Highly recommended sushi spot in the heart ot Charlotte Street. Generous portions and great chef's specials on the menu (unagi roll with grilled eel was our favourite and must to try). Paired with good selection of wines! Lovely staff and quiet environment with dimmed lights created a very peaceful & enjoyable atmoshpere.
It is hard come by a good Japanese restaurant in London, and when you do, you definitely want to bookmark it. This is what Kazu is, authentic with amazing sushi, sashimi and rolls alongside other cooked preparations like their famous cod. I came by Kazu by accident, strolling down Charlotte street in the Fitzrovia neighbourhood and could not be any happier that I did. I had lunch and went down the rolls and chirashi (selection of various sashimi on a bed of sushi rise) route, and was not disappointed. The fish was very fresh, incredibly tasty and well proportioned. The meal would not have been complete without a decent sake, which is available by the glass, carafe or bottle. The staff were extremely friendly and welcoming and I can honestly say that I thoroughly enjoyed the dinning experience in a elegant and simple setting. Kazu is on the pricey side, but you know why in particular when you have the fatty tuna, a pure delight. Definitely going back to try some of the other recommended items in the menu, and for sure this is a place where I will return to
Hidden gem in Fitzrovia, went past this place a few times and finally decided to try - and we are not disappointed. On the paper, it’s on a pricier side but it’s honestly worth every penny. We both got a set lunch and every course was done to perfection. The tempura particularly was impressive, fried at order, not too much dough, generous portion, light and crispy. Service was attentive, atmosphere was simply quaint and relaxing. Will definitely return, one of the best Japanese boutique restaurants in London!
Excellent way to spend the new year with great food and service. It was our first visit and the waitress team/host were excellent throughout. The sushi, presentation and taste were amazing too. Charlotte roll was our highlight. Will definitely revisit and recommend.
Surprised not to see a higher rating for this place! I’ve been to this restaurant a few times, and every time it’s been amazing! And I’m a sushi snob! 😂 Top-notch quality, lovely and attentive service—really, nothing is a problem. This is definitely our favorite restaurant in London now. 🇯🇵👌🏻 Thanks, guys! Best regards, visited on 25/11 at 17:30 😊
The sushi here never disappoints. Always fresh, tasty, and expertly paired with a variety of rolls and platters to choose from. The sashimi platter in particular is gorgeous and cannot be skipped, pair it with a nice bottle of their ever changing seasonal sake options and you are good to go! The chef and the staff are also lovely and chatty :) This is definitely a regular spot for me now.
This place is AMAZING!!! I’ve tried so many Japanese restaurants in London, and Kazu is something else! The food is phenomenal (the sashimi is so fresh, and the black cod melts in your mouth), the service is fantastic (the waiters and chefs were so attentive and friendly), and the ambience is so cozy and inviting. The head chef/owner came to speak to us and treated us with a surprise dish, which was so lovely. I went last week, and will go again this week - defo coming here whenever I’m in London!
One of the best restaurants in the area. Great authentic food and great service.
This place is a little treasure, nestling on the edge of civilisation. My partner for lunch, a senior consulting guru type, assured me that civilisation stopped just South of this place on Charlotte Street, but he was prepared to take a chance. I am glad he did, and even more joyous that he paid (or the firm did?) for the lunch. It was delicious sushimi and sushi which we devoured with relish (well the classic soy and wasabe really). Everything was practically perfect in every way. Portions were more Western than Eastern, but I am no stranger to that (as those who know the State Secret of my formal Circumference can attest). Think Saturn's planetary rings! I also had a lovely slurp of Sake, which as usual was well chosen to match the food flavours. Nice quiet time, no shrieking, moaning and wailing (so no Yankees). Expensive, yes indeed, but as fatso was not paying, so many pies were devoured with abandon! Never in the field of human consumption has one person gorged so comprehensively for so long for so little!
New favourite sushi spot! 😁🍣🍤🍶 The seafood is stunning! Soft delecate textures with just the right amount of bite. Traditional in style and reasonable in price. The service is excellent, the decor and location are gorgeous and the flavours are beautifully balanced. Even the wine menu is amazing. You'll see me in here often ❤ In the lunch special you pay less that £2 a peice for fresh, tasty sushi served with free miso soup, salad and fruit for dessert. Brilliant!
Just a note for people visiting, the following pictures of dinner (did not take pictures of 2pc tuna nigiri and one affogato) for 2 people was around £120. The price is around any high class Japanese restaurant like Nobu. I like the atmosphere of the restaurant not too busy or empty with a lot of bamboo and glass. Very classy, high quality and minimalistic decor. Staff is casual and friendly, always smiling. Mr Kodi looked very focused into his work and it was interesting to see him working at the sushi counter. The food was excellent, everything was done perfectly and fresh. Now that doesn't mean that it was especially flavourful but that's just how Japanese food is. So don't expect bursts of different flavours in your mouth but more subtle and smooth, fresh flavour of the meat/vegetable. Apart from the hamachi with jalapenos which had a lot of flavour and textures and was one of my favourite dish of the night. The beef could have used a bit more salt on it. The presentation of everything was beautiful especially the match ice cream. I would come here again, but probably for lunch as the price is quite steep. Overall great place!!
We booked, weekend lunch was not busy. I loved the interior and atmosphere. Delicious kitsune udon. Sashimi set (comes with miso soup, salad to start and fresh fruit to finish) was £35.
Not a bad place to go to if you fancy Japanese food, the gentleman at the front is really kind and welcoming. Food is alright, fish with rice is typically recommended.
Kazu has the best quality sushi in London. After having visited Japan my partner and I struggled to find an amazing sushi restaurant that would satisfy us. We’ve now eaten at Kazu 5 times and every time the choices made from the menu were outstanding. The team has also always been extremely friendly and attending.
Kazu is a contemporary and intimate Japanese restaurant in London, located in Fitzrovia. With a lot of great restaurants in the area it is tough to stand out against the competition but Kazu wipes the floor with them. With Izakaya style dishes with a fancy twist, that wonderful Japanese service and gorgeous décor it is a recipe for perfection! We had the pleasure of trying the chef’s tasting menu when we visited. To start we had a beautiful Baby Spinach Salad: with spicy salmon in a yuzu dressing (£9.80). The spinach was fresh and was perfectly complimented by the yuzu dressing which was full of citrus flavour. The salmon was raw, fresh and seasoned perfectly. For our next course we had Gyu Tataki: thin slices of seared beef fillet in ponzu sauce (£14.50). This was absolutely delicious – the beef melted in your mouth and the dressing was spicy and packed with flavour. Next up was Rock Shrimp Tempura: with spicy yuzu sauce (£13), crispy tempura batter and soft tasty prawns inside. The yuzu sauce was like a flavoured mayo and complimented the tempura. Our absolute favourite was the Fisherman’s Roll: chopped tuna, salmon, butterfish, yellowtail marinated with spicy miso, topped with seared salmon and pickled wasabi (£15). Sushi of the heavens! All of the fish was fresh and the marinated yellowtail really shone through. The seared salmon had a great flavour and all together it was simply delicious. Finally we had the Black Cod: marinated in white miso paste (£21.50). This dish is a popular one and it is easy to see why. The cod was so buttery in flavour and the texture was incredible – it melted in your mouth. Kazu has a large range of wines, Japanese whiskey, vodka and sake to pair with the great food. We opted for our favourite Japanese beer, Kirin Ichiban. There are also a great array of teas and soft drinks. Kazu is a gorgeous Japanese restaurant in London with really impressive food. The staff and chef create a great experience and the food really is outstanding – we would highly recommend a visit.
Seriously fantastic!!! Food is truly beautiful. Presentation ...Flawless...Custoner service..impeccable.. If there were a 10* rating. I'd truly put it. Thank you Kazu for being outstanding. Just like your food. I highly recommend Kazu. Im a sushi addict and ive found one of the best ive ever been to , in the world
One of the best places to enjoy high-quality sushi in London. Very good selection of sake and umeshu too. It’s not cheap, but the price is reasonable.
Absolutely perfect. The staff were excellent and attentive. The menu was fresh and exciting. Their recommendations were loved, the sake was delicious. Took a friend for her birthday and had the most fabulous night. I will definitely go back again and would definitely suggest Kazu to anyone looking for an intimate and beautiful night out.
Such a great experience of Japanese cuisine in London. Reasonable price but very high quality.
Nice and cozy, great service and the food and drink menus are significantly varied and offering a wide range of options . I strongly recommend it
Lovely neighbourhood Japanese for us. Fresh sashimi and well prepared cooked dishes. The staff and chefs are all Japanese which is great to see We come here all the time Love it
I was impressed by my visit at Kazu during the loosen up of the restrictions. We ate outside on the veranda, but it was very nice. Food was great, sashimi was super fresh and tasty. Thicker cuts than we expected, which was a nice surprise. Professional and friendly staff. Would visit again x
Fresh fish and a nice cozy atmosphere. Seems quite authentic and the menu provides good coverage of various Japanese options. Visited on a Friday night and it wasn't too busy. Overall well worth the price, not a single thing was out of place.
Came here mid-week early (6pm) with my brother. Sat outside. Wonderful experience. Quiet, but attentive service. Food was excellent but without pretence. Clean flavours, good portions, and wonderfully seasoned / sauced. Have wanted to come for a while and it did not disappoint.
We had a lovely family dinner at Kazu today. The best Japanese food in the area. Better than Roka. Food was amazing!! You must try Age Dashi Dofu, Yakiton, black cod. We also had soft shell crab, spice Californian roll. Service was amazing. Memorable evening.
We absolutely loved this restaurant. We ended up going both days we were in London. We were supposed to try several restaurants and more places but the quality and atmosphere were immaculate. I think about it even a year later. It is the best food I have ever had in my life. Worth all 500 pound
We’ve been to this restaurant many times. Never disappointed. Every dish we had was fantastic. The sushi/sashimi was super fresh, the soft shelled crab and tempura were light and not oily. Everything was perfect!
Kazu Charlotte Street is an amazing restaurant. I really enjoyed my food here which you can tell has been condcientiously and carefully prepared and served in the most professional way. A really relaxing and unhurried environment makes this feel like a little place of calm in the heart of London
Kazu Sushi on Charlotte Street is fantastic. The food is excellent, with really fresh fish Everything tastes clean, well made, and high quality. The staff are lovely and make the place feel relaxed and welcoming. It’s easily one of the best sushi spots in London, especially for the price. Great quality without being expensive, which is rare. A real go to.
Nice Japanese restaurant near Goodge Street. Has counter seatings as well as table seatings so perfect for both single diners to a small gathering. Compared to other Japanese restaurants I like, I found available dishes were somewhat limited but popular ones only. Sushi especially the roll sushi quality was great - not too tightly rolled, just right. Loved the idea of serving ice cream with a shot of sake. Service very attentive and friendly. Overall a lovely restaurant but rather pricey for what it was.
Visited for an impromptu dinner for 2 on a weeknight. I work very close by and have been wanting to try. Service is attentive and prompt, and when a dish came out late the main chef himself came to speak to us. The agedashi tofu was tasty but lacked the gooey starchy outer layer. Spicy edamame rocked. The Charlotte roll was good but the yuzu was overpowering. The soba had the right toppings but the broth was bland and overall a bit lacking in flavour. Karaage was absolutely perfect, as was the black miso cod. Not a bad sake selection either. Food was overall a bit on the salty side. Would go back and try more things.
Upscale sushi restaurant next to Gaucho Grill featuring a simple interior, tasty sushi and slightly awkward service. Most importantly the sushi was tasty and fresh. The Maki Moriawase (£40.00) and Charlotte Roll (£23.80) dishes where beautifully presented, tangy and slightly sweet. The spicy tuna roll (£13.50) was fresh and yummy as well. The sparkling water - £5.50 for a litter bottle - and saki -£50 for 360ml - are both on the pricey end. The service was enthusiastic and efficient but the communication was awkward snd error prone.
Group of 5 for a birthday celebration. Slightly above average sushi & not the best for value. The waiter was also impatient whenever we asked a question - not the most pleasant experience.
Food is great, real Japanese food But for this level of Japanese restaurant I prefer they have better Japanese tea 🍵 Tea leaf is very less in the tea pot and very cheap Temperature for tea is also wrong
Sushi was great, salmon was very fresh. The udon noodle was quite salty and lack of other flavours.
Really good Japanese food! Great quality, food was presented beautifully and the restaurant has beautiful interior. Perfect for a dates/small groups, very intimate.
Really good Japanese place in Fitzrovia. I ordered the sashimi which was fresh and part of the special lunch set. I also had yakitori and matcha. My vegetarian friend ordered the Kitsune udon and was really pleased with the quality.
Decent quality fish, well executed dishes all around. Value for money? I’m not sure 🧐
My visit there was ok, but my friend visited another day and gave completely opposite feedback, maybe the quality is not consistent across the menu? Decent food, a bit pricy for what it is.
3.5 pretty much on par with sushi atelier nearby. Nothing super amazing but pretty decent, fish is quite fresh, nice rice. Could be better as a lunch place. Seems a little short staffed.
We went there last week for dinner and we were not impressed with food quality. Their Omakase sashimi wasn’t a real “Omakase” as it was a simple Sashimi. The fish meat used is of good quality but the fish meats have not been specially prepared for any better taste or smell as per Omakase tradition. The rolls we ordered were so so quality. Udon soup was also sub par quality here.
Food was good. However, the portion are way too small comparing to the price they are charging it for. Moreover the service is rather slow. Expected more with such good reviews. #notworththetime
Ordered Mackerel Teriyaki, Tori Kara Age and Ugani roll were good. Udon and Tempura was nothing special. Service was shocking, first we came in as birthday celebration dinner on Monday evening, not busy at all, tell us immediately we only have 1.5 hrs for dining and need to leave after that. There was almost no people in the restaurant when we finished. Second, when we were having the mackerel, once we took the last piece of fish from the plate, still left a plum that I wish to try, the waitress took the plate away immediately without asking whether I still wanted it. Third, we ordered tempura, and waited for an hour, reminding them twice, apparently as they forgot this order. In the end, spent more than 100 pounds for two people. With this price, I would expect a much better experience. Would recommend Roka with this price point honestly. Will not come back again.
Not sure whether it is a good value for money (perhaps good in London standard?), two lunch sets and a tempura udon cost a total of £78 (with 12.5% discretionary service charge automatically added to the price). Taste was ok... I have had Japanese food in many other countries and maybe it's not fair to judge the food here with international standards?
Feels like we paid at least x2 what we should have here, and we only had a bunch of starters, no main dish. The fish of the sushi plate for 2 didn't strike me as being particularly fresh or highest quality. the green tea was good. The ice cream balls served in rice dough were a good desert as well.
I had an offensive experience here that ruined my stay. I looked up Kazu before coming to London hoping to try out the restaurant for dinner before I left back for New York. I walked to the hostess table and waited for anyone. I told her I wanted a table for one, plenty were open. The waitress told me 10 minutes and I asked if they’re full because there were chairs open but she told me to wait outside pointing outside and looking away. I made it clear I wanted to eat in. I tried to clarify many times that I wanted a table. But I was told to wait outside with delivery boys. I’m brown by color, was told to wait outside, and no one came for a while. I stare in the front door waiting for someone to come out and the sushi chef finally comes and I let him know I wanted a table but the waitress sent me outside and never came back after telling me to wait outside. So I call the restaurant to ask by phone while standing outside if there isavwilability . No one picked up. The chef told another waitress to come outside when he sees me still waiting and I ask her why I was told to wait outside while there were seats available and why the chef heard what I said and walked back without offering me a seat. I told her I’d write a review because I was denied service. The second waitress informed the sushi chef and he came back outside for a second time. Before the chef came out again a couple walked in. The chef convinced me to try the food. The chef served me. He was kind. I didn’t get an apology from the waitress who denied me until I brought it up to the manager. The manager tried to give me a discount but I didn’t complain about what happened to get one so I told him to please remove it and I paid my whole bill. I don’t need anything from anyone and I always pay my way. The nigiri I got was ok but I was upset the whole time. I’m aware of the fact that I’m a brown minority, I don’t speak like a Londoner because I’m from New York, have vitiligo which is a skin condition so I don’t usually get treated as a full person, but it would be nice to have walked into somewhere I was looking forward to and have a nice experience. The sushi chef asked if I would come back. Never. I’m even considering canceling a vacation to Japan in October bc I’m fed up with discrimination. Really like the food, oh well. You could be successful, have helped a lot of people with ambulance work, yes saving lives, been incredibly kind and patient but if you look the way I look you’ll be pushed aside and ignored like you’re nothing. I had issues with people in London with rude attitudes and lack of decency but this was the cherry on top that once again made me feel terrible like I have so many times in the past. This is what I experienced and it’s how I’ve interpreted it. I spent a small amount of money there for a light dinner but it was over 100£. I don’t care about money, I have a lot of it and I just wanted a nice meal. And to give the waitress the benefit of doubt there is probably a language barrier. But I told her so many times in a few different ways that I wanted a table. And being sent outside really bothered me. I only speak English because I was born and raised in New York. I don’t know how clearer I could have been. And to be clear, all blame can’t be put on the first girl. The sushi chef came out twice before seeing me angry. Another waitress came out and didn’t offer me a seat when I complained. I waited long for a seat and had to look upset to get one. I waited like a low class idiot outside because three staff members took too long to hear me out. This probably isn’t going to be read anyway but whatever my trip was ruined and now some will know about what I experience in life. But keep in mind, if you want to reprimand the first girl who sent me away you’d better discipline the other two because I could have been treated better in the first place by everyone before I got furious. The whole experience here perhaps would have been better if I was born another race and didn’t have a skin color deformity.
CP value is low. The price is not justified to have this quality. Overpriced a lot. Service was not good. The waitress kept on asking us if we want drink. She even forbidden my kid from having her own juice as she said their restaurant is selling juice!!!! Lucky I asked her if they sell Don their and they said no, otherwise they may not allow my kid to have her own snack. Ridiculous!!! I also ordered Japanese dumping for my kid but the taste just liked the one bought from Costco!!!
If you don’t want to wait outside in the chilling wind with an empty stomach and with no one attend to you, then avoid this restaurant. After dining at this restaurant today, I can say that all the negative reviews are true. The food is average yet extremely overpriced (you can definitely get much better food at this price). Can you imagine a main dish without rice? Well, here they charge a small bowl of rice for 4 pounds! Service is surprisingly horrible. My friends and I asked them if there were any table available and the woman at the reception told us to just wait 10 minutes outside and would offer us a table as soon as there was one empty. We agreed and sat outside. 10 minutes later, she came out and told us that we did not have a reservation and they would accommodate other guests first. We thought that’s fine, so agreed to dine outside. Then the male waiter got our order wrong, and we sat at the table outside with chilly night wind for another 20 minutes before we were greeted with only one main dish and two side dishes. We ordered 4 main chicken teriyaki, yet only one was served, and without rice! Even though we did order sushi rice! When we realized things were not quite right, it had already been 40 minutes! We had to went inside and complained to the chef, but he was irresponsive. We complained to the waiter, they just kept saying they were sorry (they should feel sorry) without doing anything practical to get our meal ready. It is literally the most ridiculous meal I have ever had in London. My friends and I had to eat a whole pack of Oreo because we were starving and frozen. We should have just walked away, after all no staff cared about and attended to us. Finally, after one hour waiting, we were finally able to sit inside and served with food. But how can we happily eat our food with everything that’s happened? It was supposed to be a happy night out and gathering but it was ruined. They kept saying sorry, but it is pointless. The chef gave us 10% discount in the end as an apology, but it can hardly compensate for our loss. The restaurant is poorly managed and organized. Would never visit there again.
Food is like early Japanese restaurant in western countries. It's OK. But, supervisor or manager is unfamiliar because she had done behavior with unpleasant face when we had not ordered drinks and desserts. We ordered 4 dishes for 2 adults and 2 children. Who is problem?
We really didn't enjoy the visit in terms of food or seating. The black code was good, but the rest of the dishes weren't, and the prices were exaggerated. Zuma would be better if it's the same price.
