Went here for an afternoon experience Ben and his team in the kitchen were brilliant knowledgeably, informative, and fun.the food was superb and Gianni is spectacular. I have eaten the beef wellington in the Savoy and the Rubens ,beef wellington is so far superior. If you want a fantastic traditional English meal go to Rubens It's 5 stars all the way
What a wonderful experience!!! Me & my mum stayed in the hotel and had a wonderful evening meal and also 2 breakfasts at The English Grill. The service is impeccable, the food is beautiful, and the surrounds are just stunning. The only critique we have is the veggie options on the evening meal as there was only one main option, but we understand this is a limited menu due to the circumstances! Robert was absolutely lovely! So incredibly attentive and really made the evening dinner experience. We had food cooked in front of us and everything was just so lovely! He also greeted us for breakfast and once again gave amazing service which we greatly appreciated. Thank you so much Robert and we hope to see you on our next visit! During our breakfasts we also was served by Erika who was just wonderful and did such an amazing job pretty much single handedly running the Monday breakfast! Once again just as attentive and lovely service. Thank you so much to all the team! We shall be back :)
Absolutely one of the best meals ever! The wait staff in particular Safe and Thomas ( sorry if I misspell your names) made it an amazing experience. The food was out of this world. I had the Lamb and my hubby had the steak Diane. Safe prepared the steak Diane and the crepe Suzette tableside. Everything as worthy of our belated birthday celebration. We will be remembering and talking about this evening for years. My compliments to the chef. Thank you fir a five star experience!
The decor and atmosphere is exquisite; the calibre of service was of the highest standard - with the staff perfecting the balance of being attentive, personable and at all times impeccable. The starter wasn’t to my taste, but that is personal taste; The chicken main was absolute perfection. The chicken flesh was tender, skin crispy; the mash was silken and the sauce a perfect complement; The baked cheesecake is a house special and it was lovely (although I couldn’t finish it, as it was a generous portion).
We visited to experience the Bottomless Champagne Afternoon Tea. The entire experience was perfect. Every interaction was attentive, engaging and informative. The staff were exceptional in particular Geraldine who took time to chat, was friendly and along with her colleagues kept us topped up, checked our needs and made our experience one to remember. Even though the staff were busy it never felt that way, they simply couldn’t have done more for us.
Amazing night at the English Grill. Such attentive staff and the food was phenomenal. If I can be at all critical, it's that the vegan starter of carrots was actually too much carrot! But I'm nitpicking, everything was delicious. Restaurant Manger, Said, spent time with my husband talking about a local smokehouse for the restaurant's salmon (sounds a bit weird, but my husband loved it) which is just a lovely touch of personal service. They were also very attentive to my husband's cow milk allergy. Definitely recommend!
We stayed at Reuben’s Hotel and saved the English Grill for our last night - definitely saved the best for last. We both had the lobster bisque and then shared the beef Wellington for our main course. Everything was absolutely delicious. Service was outstanding - Gianni made sure we had everything we needed and was very attentive. The restaurant was stunning. Would highly recommend The English Grill for your date night in London.
Although I’ve stayed at The Rubens a few times this was my first experience in their restaurant. I really enjoyed the dignified opulence of the blown glass features, the immaculate table settings and the lush splashes in shades of blue. Every person who we made contact with was kind and professional and accommodating. I was very grateful that they allowed me to create my own vegetarian dinner by ordering a couple of side dishes. The food was artfully presented and all of it tasted great.
This restaurant is breathtaking due to staff, the venue and food. I had the two course menu costing £55 per person. It is available Monday to Friday you have to book from 6pm. The waiters Gianni &Gio were exceptional, we had bread starters the sesame crackers delicious! I had the venison for starters and the roast chicken for main. Perfection! They also did dessert for my friend's Birthday . Finally they had a great jazz singer performing ✨
We celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary here last night and if I could rate it 10 star I would. We were greeted by Slobodan the Restaurant Manager and shown to our table. He made a point of congratulating us on our anniversary and throughout the evening returned to our table now and then to ensure everything was just right. The service was exceptional and the food was even better. Our steaks were cooked to perfection and I was treated to a table side view of my cherry pancake dessert being flambé'd (I think thats how it's spelt). It tasted amazing. Slobodan and his team made our evening very special and one we will treasure.
We had a wonderful experience at The English Grill at The Rubens at the Palace. From the moment we arrived, Gianni and the waitstaff made us feel genuinely welcomed with a level of professionalism that set the tone for the evening. The food was beautifully presented and every dish delivered on flavor: refined, comforting, and prepared with care. The cocktails were top notch, thoughtfully crafted and perfectly balanced. The ambiance is lush and warm, making it an ideal setting for a special evening or a relaxed, elegant meal. A truly memorable dining experience, thanks to both the exceptional cuisine and the outstanding service.
The whole stay was wonderful! The staff is incredibly helpful and good natured— their energy and kindness really elevated our stay. Tina stood out as an absolute gem at the restaurant and consistently went above and beyond to make sure we were taken care of. Truly a stellar experience! Thank you for having us! 💖
Absolutely superb brunch; amazing quality and really good value for money! Party of three came here for a birthday brunch and it was incredible! We opted for the £45 pound menu which included a main dish and access to the continental buffet. We ordered a mushroom spinach and cheese omelette which was a very generous portion; the french toast which was sensational, perfectly cooked and sweet and the full English breakfast which was also sensational. With all of the mains, the great quality of the produce shines through and you can see attention to detail and cooking expertise in every dish. The coffee was also delicious, and we had access to various smoothies, fresh fruit, pastries, yogurt and cereal bar. The inside is gorgeous as well and the service was superb too; our waitress was attentive, kind and extremely helpful! 10/10 would recommend
We carefully chose this place for our first time trying beef Wellington. Unfortunately, I didn’t know it was only served at dinner, but the waitress was very kind and asked the chef about it (even without us requesting it). He generously prepared one for us. We weren’t expecting such kindness! The beef was incredibly good, and the side potatoes were excellent as well. We’re extremely grateful for the wonderful service ⭐️
The English Grill was a fabulous discovery. We had a walking tour of Buckingham Palace (wonderful) and looked for a place to have a lunch. Please consider this place for lunch. They had just changed the menu from summer to autumn and we enjoyed: Celery Cream Soup, Beet, Pear and Walnut Salad on a half head of sweet lettuce; the Mushroom Risotto was to die for as an entree and my husband had a split chicken, fall flavoring sauce and array of roasted/sautéed root vegetables. Our side was broccoli with slivered almonds and an unknown sauce that was over the top. I would recommend this experience for those without young children only because it was elegant and a gift for parents to enjoy. (I’m a mom)
As a new hotel guest I have found this place to be top notch at all levels. Will certainly return again and only sorry I didn’t find it sooner. Lovely Old school style and old school service.
The service is excellent and the food/wine is to die for. I had the Sushsimi and the steak and both were fabulous. Gianni the manager and his staff really looked after us.
Had delicious turkey leg. Service was excellent! Ajmal, Sarah and Zenge our servers were great. Will definitely come back!
Another review coming on wonderful beef wellington. First of all the presentation was amazing. The meat was perfectly cooked and flavor worked like a harmony. I would highly recommend. Also one more to add, Mr Mohan's serves was excellent. The serving was very helpful and kind. I had enjoyed the meal much more because of good service.
My 2 relatives were staying in Hotel 41 visiting Uk from Australia. On Jan 2nd my son and myself who both live in London met my nephew and his partner for dinner in Rubens after drinks in the beautiful lounge of Hotel 41. We all had the Dover Sole which we all agreed was absolutely superb. The Beronia Rioja Reserva was an incredible wine which added to our enjoyment. Expensive but worth every penny for the sheer pleasure. The ambience of The English Grill and the impeccable service could not be bettered. Would highly recommend for a special occasion. After the meal we retired back to the lounge next door in Hotel 41. I think that this facility may be for Residents and their guests only but again the ambience was superb. Thank you very much for a delightful evening.
Everything about the evening, except the wine list, was exceptional. Thank you very much. The quality of the food, ingredients, perfect cooking and presentation was well appreciated and absolutely delicious - thank you. What I found very generous was that when ordering champagne and recioto della valpolicella by the glass, the waiters opened new bottles at the table for us. Loved the steak tartare and salmon preparation at the table. Adored the crepe suzette flambee at the table too. Our waiter, Gianini really looked after us very kindly. Definitely want to return and to return with friends who would enjoy the theatre and unique, proper, style of service which is very hard to find these days ! Found the wine list overpriced lacking options in the £40 to £60 price bracket and the wine we had at £80 was not exceptional. The bordeaux in the light section of the wine list was fairly unpleasant !
The rooms were extremely cozy, I had the best sleep. The food was very delicious and the whole staff from the doorman, front desk, waiters, housekeeping, just everyone was very pleasant. And this hotel is close to everything, walking and using the underground or bus is simple.
What a wonderful place and service, from delicious cocktails to the most outstanding food. We really enjoyed our time here, the staff were really lovely and helpful , and listen to them when they recommend a dish because they are spot on !
Pretty much spot on. Excellent service, delicious food, and lovely atmosphere. Great place to enjoy a leisurely breakfast. The eggs were superlative!
We were treated to the Gourmet Experience and enjoyed every moment. The staff were excellent and Chef Ben Kelliher was amazing. Can’t praise the restaurant enough.
First of all it was the best service we've had in a long long time - Mohan, Gianni and Maimi thank you so much, you rock! For the food, it was also incredible. We we're looking to have the beef wellington but it has to be pre booked 48hrs in advance. Even with that, the team provided us with samples which were amazing. The main dish was a rib eye cooked and cut to perfection. It is definitely worth every single penny and more.
Old english service in a stunning setting. Food and wine menu were very good. The level of expertise in service was superb. A fantastic evening.
Had the Pre-Theater menu tonight before Wicked. Really fantastic service from beginning to end!!!! Wife and I had the squash chili soup and Ribeye steak and both were delicious. Daughter had a brownie that she devoured in approximately 5 seconds! Highly recommend if you are in the area Dr a night at the theater!!
The tastiest food I've ever eaten. I had the sweet potato and was just amazed at the beautiful flavours. My friend ordered the sirloin steak, with a side order of mash potato, they said steak is now ruined for them, as it will never be as good as that steak was. The bread basket was delicious, several types of high quality breads to try. The salad bowl was so lovely. The starter I had of avacado toast surprised me with a beautiful array of tomatoes on top that I enjoyed. My friend had the potato hash to start. My pina colada was tasty. The staff were friendly, placed us in a lovely booth and they were very attentive. It was fascinating to be right in front of the large glass window to the kitchen. The decor was very extravagant and beautifully designed. The live piano music from the adjacent room was lovely. Quite expensive, but definitely worth it for the quality, definitely worth a booking.
Five star cuisine, decor, hospitality and service. Highly recommended, English breakfast and English afternoon tea. White linen, high end dining experience. Their server Eilish was truly enhancing the dining experience. If you are close to the Buckingham palace check them out.
It was my first time in London and I can tell that I felt in love with this city. We did stay at Rubens at the Palace and everything was excellent. From front desk, to room service and restaurant it passed all my expectations. Gianni our waiters guy was the best. Very professional and friendly person. I’m sad leaving after an unforgettable trip to this amazing place but I’m differently coming back soon. Thank you Rubens at the Palace. Thank you London.
The food was absolutely divine, the service was spot on and the ambience of the place was relaxed whilst top notch not at all stuffy or pompous. Gianni cooked us an incredible Steak Diane, we will return.
If you want to have the most fabulous meal and be served by the best staff, ask Gianni to make the steak tartare. The heavens parted…
We have tried steak Diane and lamb shepard’s pie. Gianni made the steak at the table. Everything was delicious. Gianni was fenomenal!
Just fell in love with this place. It’s rare to find English restaurants like this these days but it still exists. Classy old English type of serving , the trolly comes to you for certain dishes.
Great atmosphere, high quality service and food. There was a lady singing as well. We had tartare (prepared infront of us) that was fantastic. Also the burrata with avocado on toast with smoked tomatoes, was good too. We pre-booked the beef Wellington. Perfect medium rare, large portion. Adding the starter was really a lot of food. Robert the waiter was really prepared and recommended the perfect wine for our dinner. I think this place doesn't have 1 Michelin star just because the dishes are very traditional but the entire experience is exactly like being in a starred restaurant.
Amazing food , service , atmosphere on New Year’s Eve dinner thanks to Thomas , Gianni, Zara & staff made special as we were on honeymoon too many thanks to all x
Excellent service, food, and atmosphere. The people are super friendly and they were very kind to my baby. A great hotel to stay in, very well located. We loved it!
A wonderful meal and experience at The English Grill and great friendly professional service we loved eating there throughout our stay at The Rubens well done and we highly recommend you
Amazing meal. The staff are great and the food equally so. For a great silver service meal you can't do better.
The place was very nice, fantastic food and waiters, left me and my family with a satisfied feeling after we finished our meal
From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with warm hospitality and a cozy, inviting atmosphere. The service was attentive without being intrusive, and every member of the staff made us feel genuinely welcome. The food was nothing short of exceptional. Every dish was beautifully presented and bursting with flavor clearly crafted with high quality ingredients and a lot of care. The best!!!
Having booked well in advance we were surprised to be the only lunchtime guests in the attractive dining room. The menu was not extensive but catered for meat/fish/vegetable lovers all of whom formed our party. It took a while before our starters arrived but that gave us time to enjoy our (pricey) cocktails. Food quantity was more than adequate and that meant we had no room for a sweet course. This, however, was fortunate as the staff were waiting to close the restaurant and I never managed to finish my coffee which, strangely, arrived in a plastic insulated mug. It would have been nice (and commonly done), as the slow service had meant we overran, to offer to serve coffee in a nearby lounge. Overall, a pleasant enough experience but with the added 15% service charge, the cost mounted up.
Very lush old english dining rooms with gorgeous decor and great fine dining service. High quality meat and al la carte menu with separate sides. They give you a small torch to see the menu in the dim lit room which adds ambience. Would definitely return on a special occasion
Specialty of the evening was the Steak Tartare, prepared with dedication by Gianni (also known as Giovanni). Black leg turkey dish we would rate as standard.
The food was exquisite, however the service was questionable. It started off well as they were very attentive and accommodating, however that quickly deteriorated as more guests arrived. They always seemed to take priority, and it left us stranded for terribly long periods of time; it was a battle to even gain someone’s attention. It was to the point where we literally overheard the head waiter lightly scolding another waiter after he realized how long we had been waiting since finishing our second course. No other table seemed to be experiencing this problem. These little disappointing mistakes continued until the end where we even had to point out that they had gotten the receipt wrong. Normally this is okay, but the addition of each continuous mistake made it seem like targeted neglect rather than happy coincidence. I doubt that this is a common occurrence, but, unfortunately, this disappointing experience is the only memory that we will have of this place.
Really good food but absolutely abysmal service. All very polite (I think in all they apologised like 10 times for their mess-ups), but it was still 'piss elegant meets piss poor' 😂. Went for pre-theatre dinner and they knew we had 80 minutes: Starters took 40 minutes to arrive and mains another 32 minutes on top of that. 8 minutes to gulp down a main! They also cleared my place when I went to the toilet even though I told them I was coming back. They offered to remake the dish but I didn't have another 32 minutes to hand. Anyway, there are lots of places around with great food and MUCH better service so this was a 'never going back' experience.
Food is not great. 3 x times we have eaten this weekend. the Grill, awful Ribeye steak which was returned by one ofy party. Turkey was not hot and the only food I had different to my husband made me ill for two days. Lastly burnt pizza and potatoes fries. This is. 5 star hotel! Not sure where the 5 stars are coming from. We saw alot of people leave alot of food.
Just avoid it. It's pretentious nonsense. We were challenged at the door despite having a reservation. Somehow our table wasn't ready, despite the restaurant being practically empty. The food was average. The drinks took ages. And the 15% discount wasn't applied despite being told it would. The final price was extortionate. An average 2 course meal with one drink was about the same as a Michelin star 7 course meal with a full wine flight. How this is scoring 4.9 is beyond belief. I was so disappointed.
Initially, the waiter that told me what I wanted to order, they did not have left on the menu. I saw another table that had sausage links and looked homemade at 1 o’clock in the afternoon the waiter told me they no longer had those available. Our drinks were good. Waiting food was very slow.
