These lovely people managed to fit us 3 people in last minute on a busy Thursday night, we came on a whim so had no idea what to expect but were so pleasantly surprised! To start we had Escargot with a delicious sauce - no messing around with shells, so easy to eat and on some lovely bread. Then we had Moules Marinière with fries which were SO GOOD. An absolutely huge portion of some of the best mussels I’ve ever had in the UK, the white wine sauce was so good I could have had it as a soup and the fries were skinny, crunchy and amazing. For dessert we had the Tarte Tatin, it was caramelly, juicy, delicious and perfectly paired with some crème fraiche. The house wines were pretty good, very healthy servings and the service was friendly, relaxed (in a good way!) and so nice about how late we turned up. What a wonderful evening.
Lovely French bistro in Mayfair. Lovely neighborhood. The interior traveled me in Paris. Food was amazing. We had cheese platter, snails and mussels and tried mousses chocolate and creme brulee for dessert. (2pp) We also had a 250mls glass of wine each. Staff is friendly. Will definitely return!
Food was amazing, and the service was great. You could see the kitchen when the chef was preparing the food and this was so authentic. I had the soup of the day and the sea bass which were both tasty and fresh. Their mousse au chocolat is a blessing. Would definitely recommend it, feel like I travelled to France
A lovely French bistro in Shepherd Market, in Mayfair, close to Green Park station. My friend and I shared escargots (snails) as a starter, moules frites (mussels and French fries) as a main, and a cheese platter. We also had dessert (I had the chocolate mousse) and a glass of wine each. We paid approx. £50 per person.
To the staff…. Lea, Laura and Said…. Wow… What exceptional service and we food we tonight. It is the eve of my partners birthday and you made us feel so welcome and at ease. From hospitality to hospitality … wow … just wow !! Amazing food, amazing service and an amazing sense of chill. Thankyou so much to you all. Made us have such a lovely end to our evening. Thankyou all. Megan :)
Walked in and were welcomed and offered a table for a party of 4 - ground floor has only 6 tables with more on the lower floor. Goat cheese salad was delicious so were the mussels. Asked for multiple rounds of bread as the mussels sauce was too good not to dip the bread in it. Gigi our waiter was super nice and knowledgeable. For dessert the creme brûlée was out of this world! Highly recommended
Great small cafe serving great breakfast and smoothies. Very International.
Great food. We both had the beef bourguignon, and it was outstanding. Wish I could like I used to as the onion soup looked and smelled great!
Now this is what I call a top quality French food place. Nicely styled traditional French eatery with open kitchen. The staff were very welcoming, friendly and excellent at their job, really know their stuff. The food was spot on, everything was simply divine, and as with any good French eatery they stocked pastis and a lovely select wine list. I cannot fault this visit and will definitely come back. A 10 out of 10 from me. A la prochaine👍😎
Excellent sirloin steak, probably the best I have tasted in London. Small, intimate seating, but ideal for afternoon dining. Pleasant staff, and service, Would definitely return.
Incredible food and service! Went with a friend we both had the Chicken with potatoes, perfectly cooked and the sauce was so delicious. We shared a Crème brûlée and chocolate mouse between us as we couldn’t decide and it was the best decision. Both desserts were just right and not overpowering. The staff were friendly and gave us approvals of our choices when ordering too 💕 Will definitely be back!
I literally had the best meal of my life! I started with escargot. Shared a spinach and goat cheese tart. Ended with chicken in a mustard sauce. We have been going for years and it’s absolutely delicious. The staff is amazing and this is real French cuisine!!
Lovely, delicious and cozy! Tiny French restaurant in Shepards Market. The food was outstanding. And the service was friendly and efficient. The creme Brulee was a particular favorite. We will be back!
What a fantastic find in centre London. Small friendly, fantastic good. Well presented and well priced. Thank you
Very tasty French cafe style menu. The staff arr very accommodating with our puppy sitting outside.
Stopped for a late lunch on a sunday and was not disappointed. The staff were warm, friendly and casual (which was perfect). There were good menu choices, i had a small goats cheese salad and the farmhouse pate. I enjoyed a glass of wine and didnt feel rushed in any way. Location wise, its lovely. Inside space to sit and people watch but a few tables outside for those unusually hot days of the year. I would recommend this place for a lovely lunch or dinner in a relaxed environment. Staff are a credit to the business and the food was delicious. Ill definitely come back to try the mussels 🙂
We were there with a group of six. We booked prior of course. Food and Service was great. The snails and food were very nice. We had the steaks and some desserts. Great experience, loved the Kir cocktail.
Terrific staff , great food and superb wines. This place is such a find and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. This is my new favourite in the area. Best to email the restaurant direct for a booking as they fitted us in no problem and yet OpenTable had claimed no indoor tables available (so didn’t seem in sync with actual availability).
Small and friendly place, one of the best canards I've tasted in a long time. Congratulations!
Lovely restaurant with delicious food. A perfect spot to watch the world go by
My top place at shepherd market in Mayfair. Great food. Excellent chef and lovely waiting team.
I went there today for lunch with my girlfriend who is allergic to gluten and dairy products. The chef was so creative to make her a dish with the right sauce to accommodate her diet restrictions. The service is top-notch, the food is delicious and the atmosphere is very friendly and welcoming. We stayed there for a long while because it felt so comfortable. We loved everything! Merci beaucoup l’Artiste muscle!
Lovely little place, had a grumpy hungry child needed feeding lunch and the baby was about to start grumbling and stumbled across this gem. Food was lovely simple unpretentious french Bistro cooking. Mussels were well done, fries were crispy, chicken thighs were tasty. Service was friendly and they kept baby busy whilst eating. Next time were in London we’ll be back and will take some wine
I loved every min of my time spend in this restaurant. From the moment arrived the door was opened by a friendly member of staff. The staff were so very friendly accommodating and just down right nice people. Our waitress on the night was Emma aka Janell Monae (if you knw, you knw) :) the Food was excellent an amazing value for money, the location TOP Tier, I felt I wasn't in London anymore. If you like French food and an amazing vibe this has got to be the spot. So coming back here. Thank you L 'Artiste for an amazing evening - from the Time life Crew.
We were wanting soup so bad and all the tables were reserved already, but they were kind enough to let us go sit at the basement tables even though they had closed that area. The French onion soup was amazing. Ended up having salad and mussels too. Service and food were superb!! And Price were great!
L'Artiste Muscle truly delivered a culinary experience that left us impressed. My Cassoulet (and I love casoulette) was very, very, good boasting a substantial Toulouse sausage that added a delightful richness. My girlfriend savored a notable Beef Bourguignon, and both dishes were complemented perfectly by a bottle of Beaujolais. The overall experience was not only delicious but also reasonably priced. Service was good too. We shall be back.
I called at short notice for a table for 1, and was accommodated outside with no trouble. The food and service were excellent; I was seated quickly, orders taken promptly, informed advice given, friendly conversation with staff which crossed nobody’s boundaries - all things which sound simple but are so hard to find! I had the sea bream which was exquisite, moist and rich with a delicious anchovy accompaniment. I was so happy with my main that I added a chocolate mousse, muscat and a calvados. Staff were attentive and friendly without being remotely in my face. It’s fascinating to sit and watch the (immensely rich) world go by in Mayfair, eye opening for a second city woman. I would absolutely recommend this place and come back again at the drop of a hat.
Wandered into the restaurant at 12 noon as we were looking for lunch. And wow this place is fantastic! We had bread and butter to start, which was promptly refilled when our mains arrived. Portion sizes are large so we were very satisfied. Everything tastes excellent and reminds us of Paris. Above all this restaurant has Orangina!
I don’t normally review my favourite places but I noticed a very misleading review posted by a guy (Charlie Howell) who had eaten 50 meals at l’artiste. He had a bad experience for which they did not charge but his biggest problem seems to be that his wife was referred to as ‘darling’. He left a bad review and one star!! Well mon Cheri you couldn’t be more wrong. The owner, who I’ve never met, did a very measured reply and should be congratulated. Now to the review I’ve been dining here since 1990 so many many meals. It used to be traditional French with a limited menu but all really well cooked with a touch of class and great atmosphere. Now this place is truly exceptional they have a new chef who is creating surprisingly good food and the service is stylish and brilliant. I wish I’d taken a picture of the food he served us last Wednesday but I don’t do that. Suffice to say it was Michelin standard. I love this little place it’s brilliant. The service is second to none and they keep a good cellar. If you’re lucky they may refer to you as mon Cheri - enjoy
Excellent restaurant in a quiet nice place, enjoyed a dinner with my family there.
The service was excellent. So was my sea bass. However, les escargots had much to be desired for. Very dense, chewy, indelicate, and served as huge, unsightly lumps rather than in their little elegant shells as in France. A fairly uninteresting selection of desserts, and a very poor choice of soft drinks. No juice of any kind. Come on guys, there are people out there who may not want to drink alcohol for one reason or another - let's not discriminate against them! Their smoke alarm probably needs a new battery and keeps beeping, although they seem to be in denial of the problem.
I have found this beautiful, authentic and cozy spot in the neighborhood while having a walk around area. Service is very nice with two kind and friendly girls serving us. I absolutely loved snails with garlic butter and bread, but beef casserole was way worse than i have expected which is a pity to admit. Though, I will definitely come back😊
I ordered the beef bourguignon based on the positive reviews on google. I was so excited to try it! But the beef is so dry and overcooked, it wasn’t tender at all, which made the meal really sad! The mash potato and the sauce are amazing tho! However, It is not worth 22£ plus the service fee 2.5£ I would suggest you to try other dish than this if you decide to visit.
It is a very small restaurant, so it's pretty cosy but also almost a little too squeezed. The kitchen is open to the restaurant, which always adds a nice flair but also results in your clothes, smelling of oil etc. My friend and I shared the mussels to start with, which were very tasty, and she then had the beef and I the chicken breast. Mine was very bland and boring, I have to say, and my friends had not enough gravy. The wine was good and the service was friendly but I would not come back as the food was definitely lacking in flavour We each paid £50
I like the simplicity of the restaurant although the E European staff rather dampened the French-ness of the place. Reasonably priced and a solid wine list but my steak was really poor quality, tough and sinewy.
First visit for at least five years and nothing like as good as it was previously - used to go quite often. Food very average for the price & service perfunctory. Nothing like as good as similar places in Paris
Cute place. Enjoyed our time there. Generous serving and food was tasty. The only thing we didn't like was the sand in the muscles. Both me and my friend kept biting sand during the meal. It was a lovely lunch aside from this.
Entrecotes ordered were absolutely fine , risotto lacked flavour. The service could have been more prompt…. The worst part …. Cooking smells … washed my hair beforehand.. waste of time , suede jacket into the cleaners next day £60 to get cleaned, every item of clothing stank of fried foods. Might as well have been in the kitchen cooking! Because of that I would not go back .
Everything was amazing! Unfortunately a gentleman, eastern European I believe, I didn't get his name. Was very short tempered, and hostile with his service towards us. Other than that, the food delicious and the atmosphere was pleasant. We got beef bourguignon and it was so tender! It’s so disappointing that he let the general service down.
Overpriced food and not at all quality matching the price, very average/poor. A "French" restaurant in that it has a few old posters on the wall and some french style seats, a rundown style which seems by accident not on purpose. Not french in terms of quality of food, though maybe in service! :) I had the steak which looked so pale I wondered if it was oven cooked, (though the chips were at least very tasty) and companion had fish. Even the tap water tasted weird, while the wine was pretty bad too.
First came here in '86. Must have been 50 times since. 49 great meals now one shocker. Snails to start. Watery butter with uncooked garlic. Inedible. Next steaks. We ordered rare/ medium rare. They all came very well done. Sent back. Next version no better. Family ate theirs, I did not. Bill came at full price despite them saying it would not. The [very absent] owner was called. He thoroughly compounded the problem by saying 'hello darling' to my wife. The conversation did not go well. When this [inevitably] changes hands we will go back but not before. Very sad decline in a London institution.
