The host and the waiters are all very accommodating and helpful when asked about vegan options and recommendations of what to try. The gods is delicious and the home made lemonade is out of this world refreshing!!! The only downside to the place is that your clothes will smell of spices but honestly, it was worth it for me since the food was amazing.
Nice Indian veggie food Staff is very friendly and the chief came out to welcome us 5 by the table. He was also very helpful to guide me throu the menu cz of my allergy. All food came out from kitchen quite quick! Food was really lovely and pistachio icecream is to die for
Came here on an anniversary dinner following several recommendations from friends. At first service was slow albeit polite and professional, and our food did not come up to the usual standards. (We had dosa) The whole experience was lukewarm until the owner stepped in. I've really seen that level of professionalism and courtesy as he fixed the issue with our food and continue to check in on us. Once we did receive our food after correction, it was clear to see why this place is listed as one of the best Indian vegetarian restaurants in London. Great decor decent service and tasty food. Many thanks to its excellent owner for making the experience of positive one
This is NOT your average Indian restaurant. While you will find many dishes that are familiar in the UK, the menu is much broader and has some really creative and tasty dishes. What impressed me was that the vegetables used were really fresh, not frozen as in so many places. Also, the naan was much closer to what I have had in India. The staff were nice, and everything seemed very clean. Highly recommended.
We loved this place. The food was authentic and tasty, wines recommend by the staff was a perfect accompaniment. The place serves vegetarian food with a focus on south Indian menu. Everything we tried was nice. We got a table at the front so had a cozy view of the restaurants across the street.
The manager saw that my girlfriend and I were struggling to understand the dishes on menu so she was super helpful. We ended getting the London platter which is like a taster of various dishes in small portions. They accommodated our requests to switch the diary dishes for vegan options and everything was delicious and more filling than we thought it would be. Would definitely recommend them.
Best Indian I ever had. I took my family here. We had no idea what to order, so the manager selected a platter for us. We left not only satisfied but also enriched. Excellent food. Impeccable service. We'll be back.
Holy crap, I loved this place. My husband loved this place too. So tasty. We almost didn't go because of the low rating, but I'm glad we did. I don't remember the names of anything we got, but the server recommended stuff and it was good. Some kind of yoghurt "shot" thing and some kind of masala with cheese in it. I should have asked. Awesome place, will go again, will take friends and family when they come visit me as well!
Fave veg Indian restaurant in London. Service is excellent, menu is extensive, adaptability to customers' dietary requirements is high, authenticity is high. Location is great as a plus!
Excellent South Indian food. All vegetarian, don’t let this put you off. The Jalfrezi is one of the best I have ever eaten! This place specialises in dosas, a very thin pancake stuffed with a variety of different dishes but commonly rice, lentils and/or spiced potatos. They also do Tahlis (mixed small dishes) and a few different curries. We have been here many times of the last 5/6 years and it is always the same brilliant quality! Highly recommended!
Very close to authentic taste of Indian food! Really good flavours and menu. Affordable prices and great taste! Definitely recommend. The dosa and chat is amazing!
Excellent service. Lovely varied food menu with great options for different dietary requirements eg. Jane and Gluten Free. Great bread based (no wheat) options and flavoursome, perfectly spiced, dishes. Would strongly recommend!
My first visit to this Woodlands was very nice. Service was good and all the dishes were delicious. I particularly enjoyed the okra, which was very tender, and the garlic naan. A good lunch for two cost 40 pounds. Service is included in the bill.
there's a really big menu here with lots of vegetarian and vegan indian dishes. we were a group of six and got the waiter to help order us a bunch of dishes which worked out really well. there was a lot of flavour and variety. the only downer of the night was that the waitress accidentally knocked my drink over so it emptied, didn't apologise nor offered to get me a new drink. other than that it was a lovely night.
Woodlands serves reasonably nice South Indian vegetarian food. It's by no means the finest rendition of this extraordinary cuisine, but there are not all that many such options in central London, and this will fill your craving for Channa Batura and other such delicacies nicely. Service is friendly. I find the place a little dark and often a touch too quiet. A little updating would go a long way to make it more attractive.
A decent Indian restaurant. The quality of the food served is decent. The pricing is slightly on the higher side. Service is okay and quick. The restaurant is not wheelchairs friendly. Seating and ambience are decent. Parking is not available.
I go here often, decent food, good service. Can get pretty busy but they get you seated efficiently. Would recommend strongly for fast, inexpensive, good South Indian vegetarian food.
Delicious, authentic Indian food with friendly and prompt service. A real treat for vegetarians with some incredibly healthy options that are in no way boring or lacking in flavour. My only issue was price. Whilst some dishes are very reasonably priced, others are rather expensive. I'd definitely return though and would urge others to give it as go.
Delicious and authentic veggie Indian food! The okra dish is incredible and they have tasty chutneys and curries. You're going to want to order everything on the menu. Good idea to make reservations ahead of time to avoid long waits as this neighborhood spot is a popular one!
The restaurant is located close to Bond street and it is very easy to spot it right at first time. It has a pretty decent vegan options and the food tastes good. The service was mediocre and the same goes with the ambiance as well. But if you are looking for a decent south Indian restaurant then this can satisfy your taste bud to great extent. And this place is close to Madame Tussauds Wax museum which is an added advantage.
This place is a lovely find with an extensive and creative menu. Great to find a vegetarian Indian restaurant. The food was wonderful and flavoursome, should have requested a bit more spice perhaps. Service was ok, didn't do anything wrong, neither were we pestered, they were helpful and left us to it - so spot on!
This is a South Indian restaurant serving vegetarian dishes only. The food was great with average portion sizes. I did a take out so unfortunately cannot comment on service inside but I wouldn't doubt the service of staff nor ambience.
No frills place serving quite tasty vegetarian food. Really enjoyed the black dahl (which had bags of flavour) and the pesarattu dosas (had the paneer version from the menu). The wine was surprisingly good and complemented the dishes quite well too
Good spot in an happening area of Marylebone which is relaxed with good atmosphere, tasty food and decent place to catch up for small-medium group or even for couples. Food options range from South Indian dishes as well as North Indian curries, breads, rice to fusion side street dishes to thalis (which is full 3-5 course set meal dish) Friendly staff with overall good service, reasonable prices but slightly on the high side for quality, taste you get for your money. They can probably experiment offering more varieties of side/sharing dishes as well as specialising on either South or North as their signature set of dishes as opposed to offering so many different options which some may not offer actual authentic taste It's a great place to try it out if you happen to be in Marylebone area or even train station is it is a short nice walk and definitely worth a visit
The food here was yummy.. thought they tag that they are a south indian vegeterian restaurant, i was surprised to see so many north indian diahes in the menu. But non the less thr food was yummy. Ambience is nice. The staff did not seem very eager. For what they are serving, the price is definitely on the higher side.
Although food was above average, my overall experience wasn't that great. Place is easy to find. Nice and quite corner, decent decor and friendly greeting. I didn't bok a table, yet was accommodated. Ordered a Nibu Pani mojito and Delhi thali. So far so good. Drink was okay. Portion of curries in the thali are tiny. Paneer Tikka masala tasted nice, so did Daal Makhani. Chana masala was average. I don't like half cooked rice. Naan was good. Curry portion wasn't enough so I ended up ordering a full portion of the Curry additionally. Plus 12.5% service charge. My bill went too high. If I revisit, will only order a naan and a curry and see if that changes my view. Till then I can't offer more than 3 stars.
Visited on a Saturday night with three friends. 4 stars for the food, which was tasty and well-presented, but the portions were small considering the price. Additionally they added 12.5% service to our bill. Overall not bad, unlikely to visit again.
The food is alright but some dishes lacked some taste. The drinks are good. Portion is very small though so you’d need to order a couple of dishes each. Total £36 for 2, not cheap not too expensive but we won’t go back
Tasty Indian restaurant with great quality of food. But, the quantity is very less compared to the price. The South Indian and North Indian thali taste great but it’s expensive. They charge 19 pound for a thali with very limited quantity. Their Badam halwa is awesome, do not miss to have it.
I use to come here a lot so I am sorry for writing this review but this restaurant has changed! The portions are incredibly small! I took one of their "vegetarian curries" which was not specified on the menu as "small plates" or "side" but instead had 3 MINI aubergine and some curry sauce forf£8,50! That is just not right and all the other curries we ordered, paneer etc where the same. If you would like to be the type of restaurant that does small plates only and Thali, that's fine, but it has to be made clearer. I hope this would improve in the future as the taste is great
I recently took a friend for lunch on a Monday. This had always been my favourite restaurant for South Indian food. However, I was very disappointed with the quality of food. I wanted my friend to try uppuma and was horrified that it looked yellow in colour, with peas and other things in it, the worst was it was swimming in oil. On the recommendation of the waitress we ordered thalis. Mine was reasonably okay but hers looked awful - two curries, the sauce looked orange in colour. The coconut chutney tasted stale. We both have not been well for a few days afterwards. It appears, it being Monday, they were serving leftover food from the weekend. The staff however were courteous but the food was the worst I had eaten there.
Decent food. Okay service. Quantities were too less. Furthermore, when the waiter asks us for our review, we honestly ask them why the quantities were so low. To which we were told that other restaurants give smaller quantities, and that they were actually generous. My friends and I shared a good laugh at their charitable quantities. We were quiet disappointed though, not value for money.
The food is not fresh. Its just frozen food heated and given. They are spoiling the brand name at this rate. I went there for Father's Day expecting it to be of the same standards of the original one in Chennai, however was quite disappointed. The waiter was polite and gave a good service but the food was a total disappointer.
Been coming here on and off over the past 15 years, as I lived locally. It's noticeably more pleasant since the refurbishment a few years ago, but the toilets were surprisingly dirty when I visited recently (was asked to use the men's - it was smelly, and partly out of action). However, their portion sizes have significantly reduced, and one rice portion would hardly be enough for one, never mind sharing amongst two as we usually do elsewhere. Paratha was not available, and the naan they brought in place again looked a bit sad and a mean portion. Not good value though the food is tasty. The waitress never smiled. Won't be coming here so much in the future as very put off by the portion sizes - and the tacky aluminum dishes which are out of place with the rest of the decor. With more Indian vegetarian restaurant options coming up in the scene, it's not surprising that this isn't as busy as it could be given it's been around almost 40 years.
Frankly disappointing and underwhelming. With such a plethora of South Indian restaurants in London, I would strongly advise to avoid Woodlands and seek out a more authentic experience (for half the price). Service was below average, with waitresses fumbling and dropping things, however being very careful and detailed when highlighting to us the extra charges we'd be subject to (chutneys/naan/sambar). Redeeming factor was the chaat (not bad but not mind-blowing) and the owner's genuine attempt to make amends at the end of the meal, as well as his promise to deal with his staff and kitchen. Not worth the time nor the price tag.
Food was would just pass for ok nothing amazing. The dessert tasted like soap and had some plastic in it. While the service was good probably wouldn’t visit again. Accommodates vegan quite well.
Avoid this place, seriously. It's hard to briefly describe all that is wrong with this place, so I will list them: arrogant and snobbish manager, treats you as an inconvenience (if you are angry and disgruntled in your job mate, go get a new one). Inexperienced and inattentive staff (standing around in a huddle talking instead of tending to tables). Worst Indian food I have had - two of the curries were like soup and tasted of nothing ('seasonal' vegetable curry was literally a handful of pieces of white potato in a soup - see photo. The lentil curry was 10% lentils and 90% soup - for £8, what a bargain!). They forgot the side salad we ordered (he didn't write our order down, surprise!), when we reordered it it came looking like it had been improvised. Smallest serving of rice I have ever received. When I was asked how everything was and I told the truth, the waiter didn't apologise and instead argued that the curries are soupy by 'definition'. No discount or compensation offered. Paid £40, left unfulfilled and went and filled up on oreos and crisps from Tesco. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
Good staff. Located nicely. Thats it. Food has been tailored to western taste. Chef probably has no idea about spices. For example Brinjal in a sweet cashew curry without salt. Never try North Indian dish, vegetables biryani without spice. I wasted almost 60£ to search for good food here. Very disappointed.
I am not a fan of leaving negative reviews but on this occasion I feel I must say my piece. The attitude of the staff was extremely poor and the food was equally poor. My dosa was burnt and dry as a crisp and the filling inside was meagre. The starters to share, well there was not much going on there and for the price you pay, I was not impressed. If you do visit the restaurant, I would also recommend visiting bathroom facilities elsewhere as the bathroom was dirty and the seat had come away. All in all the experience was saddening when it didn't have to be.
Avoid! The food was mediocre. The lady running the show was about as unfriendly as one could be. It was not just to our group but also to the group next to us—they politely asked for the status of their dosais and they were given a lecture about how it takes time to make dosais and they had to be made in sequence. Now, for the price—the thali was GBP 19 and it included 5 things and that was counting sambar and chutney. Absolutely inadequate and overpriced, even for a modest appetite. In sum, I reiterate: avoid!
Apart from seating and ambience, food is no where near being Indian food. All food are frozen. Nothing fresh. Thali is ridiculously does not live to its name and is exorbitantly over charged. This hotel used to be managed by different team 6 years ago when food was good but place was unhygienic.
Such a shame to give this place a one star my family have been going to this place for years and recommended it but it really was that bad :( Started off with a very cold welcome by a man who seemed like he was the manager telling us to sit on a corner table without asking if it suited us. We were prompted to order pretty much straight away (maybe because it was late and they wanted to close the kitchen) after which we ordered our drinks. We ordered the chilli paneer the sauce was way too sweet. Also not only did the portion look small but there were only a few paneer peices and more onions and peppers to bulk up the small portion. I was looking forward to my Delhi thali, but oh what a let down. The paneer curry again only had two small pieces in the very small metal cup it came in. The rice was absolutely stale, it was like chewing on rubber I could not eat more than two spoonfuls. The naan bread was made very well but the moment was ruined when I saw a small hair on it! Some other customers came in after and were told if they wanted to eat at the restaurant they would need to place their order fast to which they agreed. They also ordered a Delhi thali which included bhajiya at which point I realised that mine never came out. Now I was quite annoyed and my husband had to mention something to the man. Although the man did offer to bring out the bhajiya and another portion of fresh rice, we were almost done from eating and were ready to leave to be honest. The quality and the quantity of the food was so disappointing especially for the prices that this restaurant charges. On top the staff were unwelcoming apart from one. A small discount was given on the thali which is something however overall not at all impressed with the experience and we will never be returning to Woodlands again. Such a shame.
Half of my ordered food were tasteless. Not really worth of money. It’s like any other take away kind of food only difference is charging premium price. Panner tikka masala was more like paneer in raw tomato gravy. Will never go there again and will never recommend to any one.
This restaurants fails on food in more ways than one. Not only is the food devoid of authenticity and flavor, it is served cold and some things we ordered were actually stale (as in gone bad and smelly). The idli was rubbery and stale. Clearly it had been made ahead/ leftover from a different day and microwaved rendering it rubbery. The lemon rice was neither lemony nor fresh. It had gone off and smelled absolutely revolting. The dosa was passable (read edible and not spoiled). The pakoras were cold and oily. The sambhar and aubergine curry lacked flavor of any kind. And at these prices, you’d be better off going to any of the finer Indian restaurants like Veeraswamy, Amaya, Chutney Mary’s, Matsya and the like. Save your gut and eat at any of the 5000 restaurants in London. PS dirty toilets. Enough said.
Worst experience. Food was below average and prices are high. Waiter was trying to debate on the oily dish which was delivered and said this is how it is. Will never go here and spread it out to my friends. No wonder why this restaurant was empty on Saturday afternoon.
