Opinions de East Village Cafe Long Beach
I was in the area waiting for a tattoo appointment so I stopped in here to kill time. The person that was working with the light wavy hair was SO AWESOME. I didn't get their name but I asked for a surprise and they made me my favorite latte I have ever had!! 😊 really nice person to put up with my silly request and really nice vibes in the store. They said it was banana and coconut that they added, I've never had either in a coffee and it worked so well. Thank you!!!
Just moved back to the area after 12 years and as I was walking my dogs, I remembered this cafe that I used to enjoy and decided to stop by. The coffee was delicious (I drink black and it was so smooth!) and the food is delicious. So far, between my husband and I had the blueberry bread, cream cheese danish, cherry turnover, and avocado/egg toast, in the last few days, and every one of them are delicious!!! Zander is a great guy to talk with as well, very low key kinda guy. My husband and I (and our dogs) might just found a local gem❤️😋❤️😋❤️
Perfect cozy little spot in East Village offers breakfast all day and a variety of lunch, tea, smoothie and coffee options. Baristas up front are very friendly and offer great suggestions that are very tasty. Baked goods are great for on the go, the mixed berry scones are on par with trader Joe's! A variety of vegetarian options, wheelchair accessible seating. There is a parking lot nearby and outdoor seating offers a refreshing breeze from the ocean.
Locally-owned coffee shop with friendly staff. They even offer free dog treats for your canine friends. It was a nice place to sit & have a sandwich & coffee.
Very nice cafe. The food and coffee were both really good. The staff was friendly, and the overall atmosphere was very welcoming and comfortable. I would highly recommend.
Maki makes the best bagel sandwiches & chai lattes! Always have the most friendly atmosphere. Love this little cafe.
The black coffee was perfect, and the aesthetic of the place is cute. They had one piece playing in the background and the cutest quirky decor. Next time I’ll def dine in.
Here for a short time and came every day. The energy was great, left happy and able to enjoy my day. Would recommend and would return. 2 of 3 days a young cashier had the energy of an espresso shot. They were welcoming, energetic, and positive.
So cute and charming!!! Lovely people, lovely vibes :) i'm so excited about the chipotle bagel
Machina is the best, he always knows how to make my coffee drink . He is sweet and kind and full of life
Grabbed a Latin Spice Mocha and a cinnamon bagel with cream cheese. Both were great! Service was super friendly. For a small coffee shop, good amount of seats inside about 16 or so.
Bagels and coffee are very good. Have only been a couple of times but good service every time
Very tasty breakfast burrito! I was a little skeptical about beans on mine but it was really tasty and gave it great flavor. I also got a lavender latte which was very tasty. Service was 4/5 cuz we asked for to go and got our food on dine in plates. But that was fine anyway. Dog friendly. They have a little water station for quick drinks as well.
Was looking for a good cafe while in Long Beach and East Village did not disappoint. What I particularly liked was my drip coffee was served at a temperature that I could actually enjoy instead of boiling hot like many other places. Also, if you are in the mood, the banana bread is great as well.
Definitely coming back! Had no idea there was so many options here for any kind of audience. You can bring your kids or grandparents here with any kind of accomodation here! Grab the soup of the day too!
Terrific coffee. Great food. Warm and friendly staff. Great place to hang out on a weekend morning. Soak up some yummy caffeine and easy vibes.
I'm not a huge pesto fan, but the Bagel Club, which I got on sourdough, sounded good enough. It was actually really good! I'm actually a bit disappointed in myself for not buying another to bring back to my hotel in Anaheim! Visiting from PA, and not having any dog-friendly cafes near home, it was pretty cool seeing [well-behaved] pups brought in.
Good food from a cute little cafe! The service was a bit slow, which is understandable since it's a one woman show, but it was made thoughtfully and they were so nice about it! Definitely a cute place to relax and have a bite. The salmon was good and so was the breakfast sandwich!
I first discovered The Village Grind about five years ago when I was driving around the area coming from a meeting with my boss at the time. I saw coffee and I pulled over and every once I while when I so happened to be in the area, usually after these meetings with my boss, I would stop by. Lately, I've been stopping in a lot more frequently. The flavor of a regular drip is not as bold as I'm used to but is still good. But what I like most about this spot is not so much the flavor and strength of the coffee... It's the staff, the atmosphere, and the soyrizo burrito that keep me coming back. There are a number of employees that have helped me whenever I've come into this establishment and every time the experience has always been great. All of them have been very friendly and worked hard to get all of the customers what they want as quickly as possible. I must admit that there have been times that I've waiting longer for a cup of coffee than I would at a Starbucks but these were times when they were slammed and there was only one person behind the counter taking orders and preparing drinks at the same time. The Village Grind is in the East Village of Long Beach so just walking up to the front door you get a sort of small town homely feeling without losing the urban-esque vibe. Once you walk in you get the impression that everyone is a regular because everyone looks so relaxed and at home. The staff engage in conversation with customers as if they are neighborhood friends. In some cases the customers really are neighborhood friends. I must admit... I had no idea that I was ordering a soy substitute when I first order the soyrizo and egg burrito. I thought I was having good old fashioned chorizo. It wasn't until I looked back at the menu afterwards that I realized that I had ordered soyrizo. Irregardless, the soyrizo burrito is really good! I have had it every Tuesday for the past three weeks and this week I had it on Wednesday too! The flavor is spot on with what I was expecting out of chorizo seasoning but it didn't leave me with that thick greasy feeling and I wasn't burping up chorizo all day... I am not into vegan, or organic, or vegetarian dishes but as a meat eater I was quite satisfied with the dish. I don't know if the eggs where real but that sure tasted real and the tortilla was perfect. In fact I think this might have been the best "chorizo" and egg burrito that I have ever had. Just based off of the flavors, textures, and scent, I don't think any of the ingredients were frozen or canned. The Village Grind is definitely a triple threat... Awesome staff... Awesome atmosphere... Awesome soyrizo burrito... I can't believe I just referred to soyrizo as awesome... Just beware... public restroom is not available. So if you plan to stay awhile be prepared to walk to the Courtyard Marriott which is adjacent to The Village Grind. At least that's were I sneak over to whenever nature calls.
Absolutely delicious food. Only one person working when I was in and I didn't know it. The presentation of the food was amazing and impressive to just be one person taking orders, making my coffee and my food and running the food. Highly recommend.
$$ Amazingly affordable quality Cafe! Highly recommended by locals. Friendly staff and customers! Interior and exterior are dropping cool and cozy. The Grind is a favorite of locals, a place to return for the requisite recharge, a bohemian retreat to reconnect; the Grind is free-spirited and ready to provide you some space, ahhhh, space to enjoy the amazing illustrious radiance of you. The Cafe offers a lot, a good menu, lots of drink choices (I love the bottles of Ginger Lemonade.. two bottles worth), plenty of funk atmosphere as well as seating inside or out (street-side seating on trendy 2nd St in the Art District... come on, way cool). Location x's 3... I find the vibe of the Grind very hip, razor sharp, eclectic in high measure... did I say artistic; all of that and more!!! You are gonna like this one! The Grind is in the middle, a short walking distance to everything Long Beach has to offer. A good launching pad for your Long Beach adventures. Note: Reviews are mostly 5's.. well deserved! by cmilton111 Google Guide 3.14.2018
I ordered the vegan bagel for breakfast. Everything was tasty. The worker greeted me (and everyone else) with a loud good morning!! Good food, good portions...I'd come again.
I’d highly recommend the Banana chai smoothie🤤 my dog also loves the staff! We can’t walk past it without stopping in.

Michina was extremely accommodating. Many choices of loose leaf tea. Diverse selection of food. Very simple and very good food. Nothing too fancy and delicious. Def coming back next time I’m here. Hidden gem for real.
Delicious smoothie and tasty bagel sandwich with friendly service and an awesome vibe! Don't miss out on this spot, if you like yummy food and good times--especially if you're into house music and anime!
My dad used to come here nearly every day for his coffee and to read the morning paper. It was his ritual. I joined him a number of times and I liked the place a lot. Great service, great vibes, and the coffee was pretty good. He passed away in 2015, but he was well known amongst everyone here. I should make a "in memory of" trip down there pretty soon. Anyways, please come down and support the store. You won't go wrong.
East Village Cafe nails it with their bagel sandwich—freshly baked, perfectly chewy bagel, generous fillings, and well-balanced flavors in every bite. Simple, satisfying, and clearly made with care. Pleasant atmosphere.

Cute cafe and very friendly service! They had a good smoothie. They also have games you can play. Not my favorite matcha though, it was a bit powdery. Also they don’t have a bathroom
The food is just not great. I have gotten their bagel sandwich and breakfast burritos and they both made me sick. Not appetizing. The chai coffee was very mediocre. The atmosphere is nice. They have books and outdoor seating. The service is decent, the staff are friendly but seem to not notice when I walk in for a minute they’re usually in the back doing something else.
My daughter moved here a few months ago, and I’m visiting. I like to try the local coffee spots whenever I’m in a new place. The coffee was good - a few sugar free flavor options. There are many unique bagel sandwiches. I wasn’t super impressed with the rise and shine bagel that I ordered. The staff were not the friendliest. I had a much better experience at Recreational Coffee yesterday. Looking forward to trying a new spot tomorrow!
Party of 1 - Total before tip $19.17 I will preface this that though the food was good, I would not go back to this cafe. Walked in & a couple was still figuring out what they wanted, I made eye contact with the front girl and said Good Morning and she said I'm helping them.i told her I said good morning, she said nothing, OK. Didn't look like she was helping them from behind the register and them looking in the fridges... I'm looking at the menu, couple order, go outside. My first time here, waiting, waiting, girl 2 says we'll be right with you. More waiting. Girl 1 says it's going to be a while longer before I can help you but you can use the kiosk, in that moment customer service that already went from a 3 goes to 0. Asked about food menu which was behind me and ordered on kiosk, still left tip of $2.83 to round out my total to $22. Really wanted to leave $0. 2 items ordered: California burrito + avocado $11.27 Iced Mocha Latte $5.75 Burrito was delicious, seasoned really well, huge. Potatoes only on the bottom but yummy. Hot, fresh. Latte: tasted weird and herbal at first mellowed out once the ice melted but I've had better. It was ok. No restroom from what I saw. Cute place, layout is weird not obvious where napking, utensils were. Parking, it's long Beach parking sucks. Side note as I sat there and ate 3 solo people came in after I had ordered and one group of 3 and girl 1 helped all of them. Made me feel singled out, though I wouldn't use the word discriminate, idk weird experience.
Not raving about this spot. I think the food options are average- prices are *eh at best. Chai slaps, really rich and good. Staff is mediocre. Seating outside is nice, but smells like urine.

This was my third time here. The first two times were better. Not noteworthy enough for a review, but it was convenient, and the person behind the counter was much nicer the other times. Today both people working were rude to several customers. Then, one lady, who was a paying customer asked really politely to use the restroom and clearly stated it was an emergency. The employee enjoyed (you could see it on her face and hear it in her voice), literally enjoyed telling this poor woman that she 'wasn't allowed' to let her use the staff restroom. It was gross - pure trash. Fine, you don't want to have a restroom for paying customers - which indicates you don't care about your customers. However when a paying customer is having an emergency and asks like that, you should 1. Have the intelligence and independent thought process to let them use the staff restroom, and 2. Be a decent human being. I'm so sure *not allowed*. I was grossed out by their treatment of this lady and overall demeanor as well as how they stocked food in an unsanitary way when it came for delivery. The food is just okay but I won't be back with that kind of poor service. I recommend going somewhere else where the vibe is happier and the staff are more customer oriented (and humane).
Friendly staff but not conventional. Panini tasted good but was ruined by one side being burned. The one of the staff seemed disinterested. Saw him eating a sandwich and on his phone at the height of the lunch crowd. People brought in a dog and it's muzzle and face were all over the food items which were on display under the counter.
You have to wait forever for you order, one time the matcha was nice the other day it tasted terrible. My bagel today was delicious how ever the day before I got a bread instead of a bagel after ordering a bagel . But you have to wait forever to get your order both days!
This should be a cool local place. The service is pretty bad, coffee takes the same time as your food. Some tasty vegan pastries and a couple of good vegetarian items on the menu are good. Although my last visit was a California wrap. Canned refried beans some clumpy (like powdered eggs) and a sliver of avacado on a flour tortilla. It was terrible. A cool looking place called the village grind should serve coffee and lattes with a smile in a flash. The barista is oblivious and rude. I always hold out for the local guys but this is my last visit. Other food I've had here is Ok, but not great and the service of course does vary but overall average (or a little below).
The barista made the experience uncomfortable by oversharing personal details and then catching an attitude with us out of nowhere. It felt like our presence was an inconvenience. The drink was mediocre, and the service was genuinely disappointing. Unfortunately, I won’t be coming back.
Put people over profits and maybe you will get a five star review instead. No restaurant who poisons customers by putting microplastics in their food deserves my business.
Placed an order for pick up. When I arrive, the store wasn't opened. No signs stating they were closed down for any reason. The website says they open at 7am. Basically took my money. I don't recommend going.
I came in for a lavender matcha latte. It was like melted candle wax on ice. It literally tasted like essential oils. I have never in my life had such a low quality matcha latte. With tip it was approx $7. Service was ok. For the rest of the day I was not able to get that horrible taste of essential oils out of my mouth and I only took two sips.
I wish I could post about the food but did not get a chance to try any. Walked in on a Sunday morning around 10:30am and there was no line to order, although, there were about 5 people in line waiting to pick up their order. I walked up to place my order and the guy behind the counter walked past me about 4 or 5 times. He did seem busy. I tried to grab his attention to ask if I should come back in a bit. In this business, you're never too busy to acknowledge your customers and let them know it'll be a minute or two. I waited about 8 and then walked out after zero interaction.
