Can’t beat being able to pick out your own raw seafood and getting to choose how you want it cooked! Visiting from out of town and had a feast with my family. Prices are reasonable and the food was expertly prepared. Such a fun experience!

Astoria Seafood is a mix of seafood monger and a casual seafood dining experience. I've shopped here multiple times but have only eaten here once so I'll talk about these experiences separately. I've been frequenting Astoria Seafood as my local seafood monger for a while now. They've usually got a decent selection of seafoods from fish to shellfish to even octopus. They're even able to get you whole fillets of fish if that's something you're looking for. It's always crowded and chaotic in the store though so you'll have to be bullish to get service. The store attendees are very friendly and knowledgeable and happy to help you out with whatever you need. I've eaten at Astoria Seafood for brunch once. As is normal with the store, it's rather chaotic inside, but definitely in a good New York-ish way. You go up to the seafood area and grab the quantity of food you want them to cook for you and pay and order your foods at the counter. Once you get to the counter, you tell them how you want eat piece of your seafood cooked (grilled vs broiled and seasonings) as well as choose sides from the deli counter and get your drinks. You can then seat yourself indoors and they'll find where you're sitting and serve you your food as it's ready. Don't expect anything to come out in any particular order and just enjoy the experience. It's very casual, fast, authentic, and friendly. I would highly recommend dropping by for a meal and maybe some seafood to take home to cook. But this place does get crowded so you'll have to be a look ittle bullish to get what you need.

Astoria Seafood is one of the most authentic spots in New York! You pick your seafood, they cook it perfectly, and everything tastes incredibly fresh. It’s always lively, a bit chaotic in the best way, and full of great energy. Definitely one of my favorite places to enjoy seafood!”

It is a great option to eat fish and seafood at market prices, I have come many times and have recommended it to friends and they have loved it, it has no frills, it is a restaurant with a good atmosphere and excellent food, I always choose my grilled fish and seafood and accompany it with salad, they also offer garlic bread which is very good, you can bring your own drink and they don't charge you extra, I love Middle Eastern music, you can eat outside so you don't have to worry about the noise inside the place.

The hospitality here was amazing and the food was cooked quickly and very well. You choose your seafood, pay and get a table. They’ll bring the items, and you tell them how you want everything cooked. We brought our own wine and were offered a bucket of ice to put it in, and they always checked our table to clear empty plates or see if we needed anything else. You can pay with card but I’d suggest bringing cash for tip.

So good!! First time there and it was packed, we didn’t know how the system worked but everyone helped us (cashiers & server) and was very friendly. Not sure why reviews are complaining about the atmosphere- it’s clearly packed bc it’s so good! So happy to have found this spot.

An amazing restaurant. BYOB and they take credit cards. Here's how to order and I'm assuming you're going as a couple. 1. There are 2 lines. One inside to get your food and one outside (if you want to sit outside) for a table after you order and pay for your food inside. 2. First get in line inside and one of you grab some plastic bags. There are boxes of them near the check out. Then that person goes and selects the seafood they want. Keep the items separate in the bags. When you get to the checkout they weigh each bag of the seafood and charge you for it. You can also order then some fried Calamari and a salad which I recommend. You can also order veggies from the counter displays like broccoli rabe etc. You can have your food fried, grilled or steamed. 3. You pay and they write your name on the bill and order inside. 4. With your receipt go outside (if you want a table inside just sit) and get in the line for an outside table. 4. When seated the waiter will ask for your name. That's how they bring the food to your table. 5. Don't forget to tip your waiter after the meal. They even brought us an ice bucket for our wine. Everyone was very nice and the seafood was amazing. Go! FYI: If you're ever in Barcelona there's a restaurant called La Paradeta (i think they have three there, we ate in two) which has the same concept. They're also incredible. One is near the Sagrada Familia. I just looked it up and there's been a name change to Puertecillo. Same place different name. Tip: We brought our own plastic glasses (see pic) along for the wine that were more substantial then the ones they provide for you. They also provide take home containers for leftovers.

Awesome... Awesome... Awesome... Make sure to bring your own booze... So fresh seafood and they cook the best, skip NY pizza, Prince Pizza... But don't miss here... Then you miss a great experience...

Definitely understand some negative reviews but the food is good and the service is nice. In order to get a seat you need to make sure you already order your food. Take a picture of the receipt just incase. You'll be good to go.

A great place to eat sea food. Everything very fresh and well cooked. We ordered grilled octopus, clams, shrimp and mussels, and accompanied with a Greek salad. All very tasty! And the waiters attention is very good 👏👏👏 highly recommended!!!

Complete 5 star. This is not fine dining. You bring your own wine, take a plastic bag (they give you) as if walking into a fish supermarket and get fish, shrimp, crab, oysters, calamari anything. It gets weighed, and cooked (grilled, fried baked) with whatever seasoning they have. I am pretty sure you can bring that too. Greek salad awesome, they have a lot of hot sides. Unbelievable hidden gem.

Will always be one of my Top favorite eats in all New York. Amazing staff, that i now considered friends, food is beyond delicious and location is prime. Out door sitting is great with some sunny tables and some shade ones. Will always be back.

This place was so much fun! We entered and immediately were hit with a large crowd of friendly locals having a blast. Very loud but very fun. We got to select exactly how much and what we wanted from a wide selection of seafood. Then, when we were sat, it was busy enough that the only section available was not heated (go early!) but our waiter immediately switched us inside when a table was available. Our waiter (Mr. Vinny) was so polite and was very fun to talk to, especially with suggesting what other local places to try. The food tasted AMAZING and is so worth it. Highly recommend for people traveling who want to see a local restaurant the tourists don’t really know about. Very authentic experience.

First you need to know that this is not a regular restaurant you have to go inside pick your food then go and wait to be seat it and then th show begins specially if you go with a group of people, I have been going for several years and they maintain their family traditional business for years ordering, seating and serving dont get confused is not a fancy place but is a down to earth family food restaurant prices wise it's worth every penny. I will always come back!

OMG this restaurant is awesome. I never been to a restaurant like this. You can pick fish or shrimp by your own favorite. And pick the cuisine method you want. The bread is so good too( it’s free and they bake it in front desk). Just love this restaurant!!!! Staffs are friendly too. Don’t forget to put some tips before you finish the delicious meal.

Absolutely loved the variety, quality, and taste. Loved the vibe (minus lack of personal space- there isn’t any inside). Can’t wait to take more friends and family here. Biggest disappointment was order wait time- while we were the first to place our order, we were the last on our table to receive our food- it took 1.5 hrs, and by then we were full snacking on our friends dishes.

D
Dan C (danny)

Pick your own fresh raw seafood (and the amount you want) and they cook it on the spot for you either grilled garlic butter or deep fried; you can also mix between two styles. Grilled preserves the seafood flavor. Service could be better as the waitress gave our food to the wrong table once. The place is small so there may be a wait. Recommend going at off peak times.

Amazing food and atmosphere - you’re going for fresh seafood, good sides and a fun atmosphere. Expect a full restaurant with communal tables and a great vibe. I’m typically not drawn to seafood - this place is amazing!

Traditional fresh seafood market where you pick your fish and they cook for you in 20-40 minutes or more. It’s worth the wait. Must try all the different types of shrimps GRILLED!

Delicious! I was nervous because the reviews are a bit mixed, especially when it comes to cleanliness. I will admit it’s not the tidiest place, but the food is SO FRESH and SO GOOD, so who cares. This place reminded us of being in a fresh fish market in Essouria. The service is friendly and attentive despite how slammed they are. We had scallops, octopus, the fish, and some veggies. Everything was great, especially the octopus. I can’t wait to be back!

I was brought over by a friend and I was very happy he did...love the place....great food cook perfectly...and the fact that you chose raw what you would to eat is wonderful..and enjoy setting up my plate from the different containers they served the food.... If you like seafood...you will love this place.... Not fancy but very comfortable and very friendly service overall... Will recommend all the way. . Really enjoyed the food definitely will go back... This is such a popular place! There is always a line of people picking the fresh seafood, describing what cooking methods they want for the seafood, and waiting to enjoy the delicious food. It has lots of varieties of fish, shrimp, oyster, crab, even appetizers and deserts. The price is so reasonable. I would rate it one of the best places to enjoy seafood in NY.

U

Great place if you want fresh seafood. They have tanks of shrimps, fishes, etc, and you choose what you want and how you want to cook it. The wait time tho is super long, especially if you have a large group.

S

Excellent no-frills fish restaurant/eatery in Astoria. No real menu; just pick up your own fish from the back, place it in a plastic bag, have it weighed at the counter and tell them how you want it prepared. Your choices are, grilled or fried, maybe steamed or in red or white sauce if you're getting mussels. Grilled octopus is a must! Ask for that at the counter, along with the side dishes like Greek salad, Lemon potatoes, Rice, etc. Now pay and either get yourself seated or wait for your name to be called when a table is cleared and ready for you. It's BYOB and there's a liquor store 3 blocks away with nice wines to have with your meal. Food is brought out hot and tasty on ceramic plates, but you'll get plastic utensils and glasses. Enjoy a nice meal at a discount price because this ain't Nobu or Jean-George.

Great seafood. I came here early so I didn’t have to suffer the long line. Love how fresh everything is. Great service especially since this was my first time. Love their outdoor dinning.

One of the most fun dining experiences that I’ve had in the city. You pick the seafood you want (literally) and let them know how you want it so be done. Everything was delicious but I’d recommend starting off with a Greek salad and some calamari. Can’t wait to come back because I think I found my new go to spot in Astoria!

D

It's interesting reading the reviews - I think if you stumbled on this place on a busy weekend, sure, you're going to be confused and annoyed. But if you're aware where you're going then it's fun, unique and awesome!! Food is great, prices are reasonable given amount you get, the seating is all over but there's sort of an organized chaos, I'd recommend avoiding weekend evenings, and coming if you're in a rush - it's a great experience!

M

This is my new favorite sea food spot. Why go fishing when they have it already caught. It is a pick your own fish, bring it to the counter to cook place. Sea Bass is in season so I went with that. Someone say fresh calamari! Gotta have it. Shrimp...grilled? Yes please. Bae wanted a lobster tail so bae gets what she wants. Add a greek salad to the meal and we are set. We brought it all to the counter. Everything grilled...to perfection I might add, except the calamari which was fried. Seating inside was crowded but it is what it is. Place is very busy which proves it is the right place to be in Astoria for seafood. I would even come back for lunch and have some grilled shrimp and fried calamari.

This was such a cool experience - you pick out your fish by hand and bring it to the counter and tell them to cook it however you want. They also have a bunch of sides that you can choose from, and everything was absolutely delicious! The waitstaff were also very nice and attentive.

Astoria Seafood is definitely one of the more unorthodox restaurants I’ve dined in before but in the best possible ways. This was my second time here and I was still as confused as my first time with their unique system/order of operations. We came here on a Friday night around 8 and the place was packed but do not let a full house fool you as you may still order your food and wait for a table. To order, or better yet, to eat here. Go in and walk straight to the back, grab plastic bags and pick out whatever seafood it is that you are craving or seeking to try. The beauty of it is that you can pick as much or as little as you please. Once you have your desired seafood, bring it to the counter where they’ll weigh and price it before adding any additional items like sides or drinks to the order and then pay the bill. Then you wait for a table to clear and once you’ve ordered and paid, the staff will get you a table. It’s not like your usual restaurants but it works. The food here is fantastic. We started with the Greek salad alongside a complimentary side of garlic bread which might’ve been the softest bread I’ve ever had. Both were great but the seafood was even better. We got our calamari deep fried with the rest cooked with garlic butter. Ask for tartar sauce and lemons, you won’t regret it! The calamari was fried perfectly, light on breading. We also got clams, shrimp, scallops, and two octopus legs all grilled. All were cooked perfectly and paired with lemon and salt, it’s honestly some of the best your money can get you. Service was superb, super attentive staff who ensured we got our seats before anyone who came in after us. You can’t beat that. We spent around 70 dollars total which is quite good considering both the quality of the food and service. Highly recommend!

This place is a staple of the neighborhood. It's an authentic and chaotic experience in a great way. It feels like it's always so lively and it's a unique feeling. There are lots of options of different types of fresh seafood and ways to prep the food. Everything was delicious and relatively affordable compared to other seafood spots. Amazing experience!!

M

This was definitely a first for me. A fish market that's also a restaurant? You can buy the fish to take home and cook or eat there. But that's not even it.. take home or eat in, the price for the fish is purely market price. We ordered probably 7 or 8 large seafood and side dishes and the cost came out to about $120 for both us.. How it works: You go in, grab a few plastic baggies from the counter and pick your own seafood. Wait in line and pay for it at the register and tell them how you want it cooked. If you're into grilled octopus, make sure you order that at the register too. For side dishes, make sure you order the greek salad (the best I've ever had, it's super fresh) and the lemon potatoes. After you pay, they'll assign you a table if you decide to eat in. They don't serve alcohol here but it is BYOB. So if you're feeling fancy, bring a bottle and some cups to enjoy the evening! This place has a very homey neighborhood vibe. It's not in any way fancy and can get quite loud. But aren't those always the great hidden gems? I visited back in January and cannot wait to go back after this quarantine is over.. OH! and one IMPORTANT thing.. Since they sell their fish at market price, the servers are basically working off of tips. So please don't forget the lovely servers! leave a cash tip at the end of your meal!

It is a magnificent place where you can choose the amount of fish you want from countless fish and have it cooked as you wish. Its casualness and affordable prices are also a big plus. The only problem was that they were careless when taking orders and did not change the product they cooked using the wrong method. I still definitely recommend it to be tried, we have already become regulars.

You choose your seafood one by one and cook it the way you want. It is extremely delicious, the service is fast and the prices are very reasonable. If you want to eat seafood and fish, I definitely recommend this place! It's just a shabby place. Alcohol is not sold (you can bring it with you). Btw garlic bread WAS AMAZING 🧄

Even with a 2 day delay after shipping, the fish arrived cold and in excellent condition. I’m also a fan of your packing and shipping process. My sister was more than excited to receive the northern whiting filets for Christmas and I can’t wait to cook my whole porgies. Thanks for a great experience.

This is a small evolving local fish market and restaurant where the customer chooses what seafood he or she wants to eat and how it's cooked ... to each and everyones liking! 😊😍 I really like the vibrant and somewhat chaotic atmosphere of the place ...with customers enjoying their meals in rather tight indoor surroundings . . . in summer there is an outdoor seating area ... while others as I, purchase the seafood for home cooking or if you prefer, cooked to your liking on the spot for take out! 😊👍😊 Everything I've bought here is always top quality and truly fresh ... like the halibut steaks, cod fillet and calamari I bought yesterday! 👍😍👍 The prices are very competitive ... and the service promp and courteous. 😊👍😊

The food was delicious, the experience was awesome. The wait time wasn’t too bad (40 mins) but I did have a nice salad. Super delicious. I’d highly recommend coming to this place with your loved ones. Recommend this to your family and friends.

I don’t eat shellfish, so I just got the sea bass. The whole fish, grilled with tons of lemon and garlic, side of garlic bread and Diet Coke came out to $31 (very reasonable). The place has a very warm family energy, the atmosphere is loud with Greek music lighting the place up. The service was incredible and attentive, make sure to bring cash for the waiters. Will come back here again.

Best Seafood in all of the burrows of NYC hands down. I take clients, visiting family and friends. Walk in only you grab you fish in a plastic bag from the many fresh options there. Wait in line and tell them how you want it cooked, pay and sit. A waiter will come, tip them after. Fresh, delicious and authentic this place is old school there are huge friendly neighborhood vibes here. Best Calamari in the world.

Food was incredible!!! Restaurant was very busy even it was at around 4pm. Didn’t know what to do at the beginning but staff explained to us on how things work. Grab some clear bags, grab your own seafood like the fish market. Bring them to the counter, weight them and you can choose between fried, grilled or steamed. Pay at the counter, leave your name to the staff. Then go find a table, staff will call or come find you when your food is ready. Don’t forget to get their salad and garlic bread combo. Extremely yummy bread!! Seafood was fresh, well prepared and flavorful. Nothing was overcooked, it’s just perfect!! Staffs were friendly. We had 5 dishes with sides for two people. Total was only $71. If you want really good seafood, don’t mind having fish market ambient. Here is the place. Highly recommended!!

Great authentic experience. If you like fancy settings or pretentious food, this is definitely not for you! Everything is super fresh and i did not wait at all for my food (i went 6 pm on a Thursday). Indoor seating is limited ( about 6-8) tables, but they have great outdoor seating as well (preferable if you don't like loud music and neon lights). Outdoor seating area is not well heated nor insulated though, so you have to keep your jacket on in the winter. We got a 1 lb branzino, 1.5 lb snapper, 0.8 lb mussels, 0.5 lbs calamari with seafood rice for 50 dollars (good amount of food for 2). Tips for a better experience: 1-Bring CASH for tipping, please. 2-Big fish take longer to cook, you can either avoid ordering it, have it butterflied for less cook time, or order salads and appetizers so you're busy for 30-45 min. 3- They have grilled octopus, must order at the counter. Will definitely be back!

If I can give them 10 stars I would! I’ve had Astoria Seafood bookmarked for the longest longest time and finally came here for lunch. I’m glad I listened to the reviews and came here for lunch when they opened. As soon as we received our order, the line was out the door. Not only was the food delicious and fresh, the workers there were SUPER friendly. They made sure we received our orders, brought out the complimentary(?) garlic bread, and you can tell they love and value their customers. The prices are reasonable considering how fresh the food is and how they cook it to the way you like it- whether it is grilled, fried, boiled, steamed, etc. We chose fried calamari (highly recommend!!!!!), scallops, lobster tail, branzino, grilled octopus, baked clams, and salmon. I really recommend coming here. I’m already thinking about my next trek here!

WOW! Came highly recommended and I get why. This isn't a fancy spot, so come prepared to 'fight' your way to your seafood selections and then be ready to stand by and snatch a table while you wait for your food to be prepared! LOVE IT! The workers were all so lovely and fun, making sure you are enjoying your food and your time there. Kareem was our waiter and he made my bday special!! Such a community feeling of all types of people and oh, it's BYOB and they have ice buckets for bottles that need to stay cold. For 2 people, we ate for $50!!! **get the calamari, sea bass and the Greek salad**

Food is excellent it's a bit chaotic but be patient the food is worth it. go straight to the back pick out your food and let them weigh it. Tell them how you want it grilled or fried. Definitely get grilled 😋 Get salad and potatoes delicious! They're a byob walk with plenty of booze!!

originally reached out to Astoria Seafood while searching for a specific specialty fish, and I am so glad I did. Despite a weather-related shipping delay, their team was incredibly reassuring, even offering a full refund if the product didn't arrive in peak condition. Fortunately, the fish arrived perfectly fresh and on time. Having ordered twice now, I can confidently say their quality and cleaning are unmatched. Between the 'top-shelf' support and the fresh product, I’ve found my go-to seafood provider.

This place is amazing! The choice of seafood is varied. The staff behind the counter is very professional and friendly. If your looking for a fancy place with fresh cut flowers do not come here. Yes, seating is limited and it can be noisey. The total experience to me is amazing. Thanks for the awesome food!

Oh my god, Astoria Seafood Market is a gem. I’ve never had an experience in New York that transported me back to Greece the way this place did. The entire concept is incredible. You pick your fresh catch, they season it simply, and everything centers on freshness, flavor, and sharing. It’s the kind of food that reminds you how good simple cooking can be. The staff is genuinely kind and always ready to help, which makes the whole experience feel welcoming and effortless. We tried the calamari, shrimp, and a whole fish, and every single dish was stunning. The lemon potatoes are perfection, and the complimentary garlic bread is such a thoughtful touch. It feels like a reminder of when restaurants used to give you little extras because they cared. Astoria Seafood is delicious, charming, and full of heart. I would go back in a heartbeat.

First time coming and I would most definitely come back. Seafood is fresh and everyone picks their seafood and pays per pound. Once at the register you tell the staff how you want the fish prepared (I.e., boiled, fried, etc.). Everything was seasoned to perfection

This place is so real with the fresh seafood quality. Pretty packed and loud place but amazing place to have seafood and hang out with friends. It could be better to organise the line and queue, but overall experience was fine. We had a lot of shrimps, different kind of fish. They all were so good!!!

Omg! This place was everything!! 1st off, it’s like eating with family & there was only 2 other African Americans in the whole establishment. We drove from DC & it was worth every toll we paid! My friends and I had shrimp, scallops, crab legs, cuddle fish(A must have, the VIP of squid), lobster, seafood cheesy potatoe, rice, corn & mussels. Everything was cooked to perfect. There was a small wait, but go get a drink from the corner, by time your back, your food will be ready! I’ll be back every 6 weeks for sure!!

Fresh, high quality seafood without the fancy markup! The highlight? Choosing your own fish from the counter. How it works: 1. Order at the counter first (no numbers), then grab a seat inside or outside. The servers keep track of you, but… 2. Stay a little alert, they do sometimes mix up orders, so if your food’s taking a while, don’t be shy to ask. 3. Bread isn’t automatic, but when they bring it, it’s great (especially with their olive oil). Cash tips are preferred (and appreciated).

the way you order is super unlike any other place i’ve gone to but i like how you can choose basically anything you want in whatever quantity. got shrimp cheesy potatoes, broccoli rabe, and salad as appetizers and grilled scallops, salmon fillet, and lobster tail for entrees. SUPER reasonably priced as we left so full and so satisfied. the grilled scallops were so juicy 😋 however it’s super busy past 6 and we had some miscommunications with the cashiers and waiters because it was so loud. will come back earlier to try the whole fish options next time!

If you like seafood, skipping here is a huge loss. Cannot recommend this place enough—friendly staff and truly wonderful food! We’ve been here twice now and can see ourselves coming back often. The seafood is reasonably priced and perfectly cooked. I’ve liked every single thing we’ve gotten. For sides I especially love the lemony potatoes. I will say that if possible, plan to come on a weekday. There can be long wait times for seating on weekends and the place gets very crowded. I would definitely recommend eating in, though, because you can’t beat freshly cooked seafood.

Obsessed. This seafood is awesome, the quality is unreal. Everything I’ve had is delicious. The cuddle Fish, the calamari, the salmon, the shrimp and the flounder Was out of this world. On top of that the prices are absolutely phenomenal. Please try the Greek salad. It’s the best I’ve ever had and it’s enough for three people. I love the BYOB option. I will never stop coming here. Also, the service is great.

This is my second time here. Ordered the same thing. First time crab legs were better this time it was a bit burned on the edges. I had to ask for my broccoli to be heated as it was cold. You can BYOB. Great for lunch with friends. I recommend going earlier as it would be less crowded and you can get a seat inside. Total was around $60.

Amazing restaurant, easily one of my favorite places to eat! The service and hospitality were great from when we first entered the restaurant to when we left. Staff is attentive and very friendly. It was never hard to get ahold of an employee. The food was incredibly fresh and deliciously prepared. You get to pick from a large variety of seafood right in the store, weigh it, and then choose how you would want it prepared - fried, grilled, sauces (white or red). I LOVED all the seafood ordered to the table - fried stripped bass, fried calamari, grilled shrimp, and grilled scallops. Everything was cooked perfectly. For example, the calamari had just the right amount of breading. There’s also so many sides to pick. We chose lemon potatoes, which were my favorite side and the right amount of tarty from the lemons, roasted potatoes, greek salad, and roasted corn. The place is BYOB!! Definitely bring drinks for an even better time. Restaurant only does walk ins and could get very busy for dinners and weekends, but so worth the wait. You can also buy the seafood fresh and cook it at home, which is awesome! Not the fanciest of restaurants but the vibes are amazing nonetheless. Also, complementary bread!! Great food, service, vibes, and BYOB what more could you ask for!

One of the first places I've been to since COVID restrictions started lifting. The interior of the restaurant itself is very clean and well managed. All the seafood seems fresh, and getting your food is very simple: - You pick out the seafood you want. - You bring it to the counter and tell them how you want it cooked. Fried, grilled, steamed, in soup, whatever. - You order some side dishes like salad or rice, drinks, etc. - If dining in: They hand you a receipt, you tell the waiter your name, and you sit outside and wait for your food to arrive. Otherwise, take-out is take-out. Wait to be called. We got some calamari and grilled fish. Super fresh stuff, simple preparation.

The concept of the restaurant is it really good and interesting but the service it is like 4 or 3 stars. The food really fresh and prices are fair (no cheap no fancy). I tried scallop, deep fry a fish, fry shrimp and French fries! Very good

My delicious 😋 experience at Astoria seafood 🦞 The seafood is amazing with lots of variety and many recipes to choose from. Select your raw fish, and ask for whatever the recipe you like. You can dine in or take out. There are some places to park around “free” The place is accessible by wheelchair, and I didn’t find toilets, maybe I missed that! Overall, I like the grilled shrimp, scallops with garlic butter and lemon sauce, grilled lobster and fried calamari.

Every dish at Astoria Seafood was simple, tasty and fresh. I really liked the food there and the BYOB policy is wonderful. But in the midst of a pandemic, I don't think I will visit here anytime soon because this is one of the least Covid-safe dining experience I've had. I arrived just about 10 min before it opened for lunch and there was a short line. But as soon as the restaurant opened the door, everyone (a lot of non-maskers) rushed into the restaurant and grabbed as much as seafood as they can. I get it this is a great place but it's not like they are in shortage of the supply. Why can't everyone just be civil and wait in line to pick up the seafood they want? No one is going to steal the item you want because the restaurant updates the inventory very quickly. Maybe someone at the restaurant could help make the experience less messy and stressful? I mean this is for everyone's safety and health...

Food has never disappointed. It is amazing and fresh. You really have to be patient when you come here tho the wait is insane. It is better if there is a sign indicating guidelide what to cook cause it is no clue what to do with each items. Service can be confused since you don't know who is your server!

T

Really enjoyed the greek style seafood. It felt incredibly fresh. And the staff was super friendly and accommodating. Crab stuffed clams we're the best, fried mackerel were great, and grilled red snapper was melt in your mouth tender. Hole in the wall atmosphere. Only downside was a lot of the food felt a bit too greasy, but that might just be my preference issue/what we ordered, definitely great unique taste and worth a try at least once or twice.

This place is different in a good way! You pick out the seafood you want. There are loads of options. We chose the swordfish and snapper. You pay by the pound. Then you get to tell them how you want it cooked. The swordfish was our favorite. The fresh Greek salad is a must I would say. It’s a daily loud/busy spot with all of the seafood coming in and out. So keep that in mind. Definitely on the casual side. But overall it’s a great meal for what you pay for. Nothing like freshly cooked seafood in Astoria! Places like this make Astoria a great place to live!

Great experience. Had fun in picking your own seafood to have the store cook the food. I would go back again. For the first timer, you need to pick up your seafood, pay for it and decide on how you like to be prepared (Mostly grill or deep fry). Then ask the waiters for a table stating you paid and the name when you pay. If you are looking for a regular restaurant service and fast serving, you need to go somewhere else.

A must-visit for seafood lovers. The experience is unique: you select your seafood from the fresh market display, and the staff cooks it to perfection. You can also bring your own alcohol, which adds to the appeal. The food is an absolute 10/10 🤤. However, be prepared for a bit of a wait, as the service can be slow, especially during peak hours. If you’re not in a hurry, the delicious meal is well worth it. I gave the food five stars but only three stars for service due to the delays. Overall, it’s a fantastic spot!

Not a fancy place but the price and the food is good. Food is freshly made, You pick your own seafood choices in plastic bags and at the counter tell them how you’d like to be made. The food is really good. We had branzino , grilled octopus, grilled calamaris and shrimps. Greek salad and garlic bread. The store is a bit messy but outdoor seating is ok. There was no wait time, everything was made pretty quickly.

This was my third time here. Friday evening with 2 of my friends. The place was packed, but since we came early (5pm) we did not have any problem with finding a table for us. We had 2 whole trouts, and 1 whole snapper. We also added some anchovies, calamari, and 3 legs of octopus, with a greek salad and potatoes as sides ($133). Fishes were prepared good, but octopus and calamari were more cooked and almost cold, witout necessary char on them. Overall experience was quite good, although ordering your food is chaotic and it takes some time. Additionally, it is quite messy and dirty outside (everything is broken, outdated), but this is not a fancy place. You come here to eat cheap and basically that's it. They really have an excellent choice of fresh fish and seafood, garnished with a very relaxing environment that make this restaurant probably one the most popular (= affordable) among Astoria residents. Prices are VERY reasonable, don't expect fancy seatings, utenziles and plates are plastic, service is good enough, a lot of people over there are hard workers. You can bring your own booze (wine, beers), since they sell soft drinks only. Friendly staff, don't forget to tip guys who work on a grill, including bussers, guys who clean your fish and server.

Food is great and so cheap but even if you order online it comes out so exhaustingly late while you’re waiting in a hectic bustling place. Definitely order way in advance and expect it to be even later than the time provided.

I had a great experience with the food. I lucked out with the service as well. This could have easily been a favorite spot EXCEPT for 2 things—you don’t get an itemized bill or any bill for that matter. They add and calculate manually—really?…I still CANNOT understand why on different visits I paid close to the same price as I did for way less expensive items than other times. Also if you are with a group it’s hard to keep track of your orders. If they are more transparent with my money and consistent with their service then this would have been a 5 star on a no frills hidden gem.

It was so amazing that you got to choose which seafood you want to get while it’s very fresh and ready to get cooked. You get to choose which one do you want to make (grilled, steamed, fried…). I would recommend bring your own drinks beforehand coming into here. All seafood were delicious, and fresh. Would like to come back again.

Food was great but a limited selection of preparations for fresh. Everything was cooked perfectly: squid, shrimp, scallops & lobster tails. Perfect! Excellent cold beets, Greek salad, & that Lobster Bisque was the absolute best I ever had. If I return I'm getting the fish stew as well. Everything they had prepared was just excellent! But make no mistake this is a fish market there is no decor & a fish market smell.

An incredibly busy spot for fresh seafood. You go inside first, pick your seafood and then pay. Then you wait for a spot to clear up to sit down and eat (if you're staying). Otherwise, you can also get to-go, which was around a 10 mins wait for me at around 5:15PM on a busy Saturday. The grilled scallops were good.

• Bronzino 🐟 (Fried) • Mussles (Baked with white sauce) • Scallops (Grilled with butter and garlic) • Oyster 🦪 (Grilled) they put their own seasoning • Large Greek Salad My first time going here. Thank god we went before the rush hour. After we got seated a whole bunch of people came in. You have to go pick out the seafood items you want, then bring it to the cashier and tell them how you want it cooked. Then you can also order sides. I ordered a large greek salad. Then you wait for one of the servers to seat you. I wish I got the servers name but he gave us a table and took care of us. He's bald and blue eyes. I saw some people who was seated before us and they still didn't get some of the food while we got everything. It was weird and we got bread but after when we were almost done with the food. Better late than never lol. We spent about $77 for all of this seafood, large salads and two drinks. They are closed on Sunday & Monday. Also you can bring your own bottle.

I was choosing in between 4 or 5 but 4 eventually. Still worth to visit to experience the seafood market vibes! Some notes: 1️⃣Dine-in is definitely better than delivery. I don’t think their seafood products are like fresh fresh but enough. It’s cook-to-order at restaurants while they have precooked dishes which might be the reason why I didn’t think my delivery experience was good. (Food got soggy after time.) 2️⃣Visit outside the rush hour. Restaurant was only 1/3 full when we visited at 5ish pm. And got super crowded around 6:30 pm. 3. The way to order: You grab items u want with plastic bag at the back, line up and pay at cashier, tell your table number. Grilled seafood: Overall was delicious. They mainly used olive oil and serve you lemon and some sauce at table. ✨🥗Greek salad: a classic but worth order. A lot of toppings and refreshing. 💛Baklava: My little vip to finish the meal!

Fish was very fresh and delicious, the starter salad was very good as well. Was our first time here so we were a little lost and had to figure things out ourselves. So, when walking in one has to by pass the line and head to the rear and pick out your fish/seafood and put in a plastic bag. Then head to the back of the line where your first 20/30 minute wait until getting to the register where your seafood is weighed and asked how you want it cook. We chose our snapper fried and the rest grilled in garlic/olive oil. Then head outside and wait another line to be seated for another 20/30 minutes. When seated from start to finish the food takes another 20/30 minutes to come out but it comes out a plate at a time. First was the salad, then fries..followed by the fried snapper. Another few minutes the grilled shrimp and scallops. The lobster took another 20 minutes. All in all the whole experience took 2 hrs. Hence, why not the full five stars. I will say the wait is due to its popularity and large crowd. The place is not big inside as well. I will definitely come back again, the food is that good. I will, however, be prepared to wait.

This place is a good experience. You pick out the seafood you want and they'll prepare it how you want. The choices are fried, grilled or steamed. There are sides to choose from and complimentary Garlic Bread and there are also some prepared foods. It's B.Y.O.B. but they do have sodas and bottled water. The young man taking the orders was very helpful. We were celebrating my mom's birthday and he put a complimentary piece of Baklava with our order. There were 3 of us and one of us ordered a Salad and he made sure that it was enough for three. The place is comfortable with outdoor seating also available. My grilled Porgy was amazing. I tried a piece of the Fried Calamari and it was a bit tough. My mom enjoyed the fried Trout and our friend enjoyed her fried Porgy. The Salad was good. The prices are amazing. It's worth the trip to Astoria to try it out at least once.

Food is good, and prepared well. Just a bit hectic and not ideal atmosphere for an eating experience. I'm giving the food a 4, but the dining experience a 2. You pick your own fish, shellfish, etc.., they weigh it and you tell them how you want it cooked like grilled, deep fried, steamed. Order any sides like steamed veggies, salad, soup, potatoes etc... You sit down and they bring it to you. I went for lunch around 1pm and no line. I would not wait more than 45 mins to go there as I don't think its worth it, but if you don't wait long stop by.

A
AMR AB.

I don’t know about that place sometimes I would like to give them 10/10 and other times 1/10 The grilled U7 shrimp is amazing and you can’t find it anywhere else however the last time the lobster tails was spoiled and there are also something wrong in the prices the 2 pound is cheaper than the one! I told the manager however he didn’t seem like he cared enough.

S
Shona Soloff

This place thrives on noise, chaos, and overstimulation. While they do have many options of fresh fish to choose from the actual dining experience is disorganized and overwhelming. Granted I came in on a Friday night at around 6:00 p.m. so can't speak for other times. I ended up walking away with a bill of about 50 bucks which I could have spent elsewhere with similar/better quality eating in peace.

E

One word, chaotic! Went on a Friday afternoon and it was busy, servers were going back and forth trying to get the orders out correctly. Some people were attended to right away and received their beverages/salad in the beginning. We had to keep checking and asking the waiters for what we ordered. Overall the fried calamari was the best, never received any marinara sauce. Fried shrimp were okay, and the bake clams still had some sand on them. We dined outside because the noise inside the restaurant was madness. I guess if you don’t mind that atmosphere, then this is the place for you.

H
Huseyin Cicek

The food was just not it. Yes it’s fresh, but they don't let the simple but amazing taste of the fish stay as they bombard it with their own sauce type thing that is extremely sour. That is just my opinion tho some people may like it. The atmosphere was horrific tho. To order we had to go through a crowd and then we were rushed to give an order at the entrance. It was really loud. People were drinking alcoholic beverages and some were yelling. If it wasnt for the absolutely amazing workers that greeted us with smiles from the start it would be no more than a 1 star.

The place is packed and loud. First time here so we thought after picking and paying for our fish, the wait for the table would be 20-30 minutes. Instead, we had to wait 1.5 hrs to get seated (thanks for not warning us) after we got seated they brought a salad. 15 minutes later the rice, potatoes. 15 minutes later the fish. A complete disaster. A 2 hour nightmare experience. The whole "pick your fish" sounded great at the beginning but after all the wait, we could not enjoy the food. We were sandwiched in between the bathroom, the raw smelly fish, and a table of 8 drunken guys. Fish was between good and ok. Nothing memorable and kind of expensive for what it was. Never coming back.

B
Bumsu Kim

Food was good, but not great for the price. They force 20% (cash) tip for the table when leaving. They counted them right away and asked “is this really 20%?” Never seen something like this. (Fyi: It’s not that type of restaurant; you pick up your fish first and bring them to the casher and pay for the food there. You’re not even getting water or sth on your table.) Not really sure if 20% forced tip can be justified when we don’t really get any “service”.. There’s no designated server nor anyone cared about our table lol

E
E Golono

Greatly overhyped. Yes the food is mostly good but this place isn't a restaurant and the terrible service shows it. Nevermind grabbing my own fish in a plastic bag and fighting for a table, that I expected and was unphased by. Where it broke down for me is they take an ETERNITY between your dishes. So you'll get a salad, then 15-20 minutes later the garlic bread, another 15 minutes for the lemon potatoes, 15 minutes for the squid, and so on. Nothing comes together so the potatoes are cold by the time the fish is out. Mind you this was on a slow day without a line for you to get in. Did I mention the presentation? We hadn't touched the bread when it came out to us looking half eaten, they said that's normal. If you really want to try it, do yourself a favor and get it to go with the microwave on standby to warm it all up.

I used to really enjoy Astoria Seafood, but something seems to have changed recently. I dined with my family last night, and sadly, the experience was disappointing. The orata fish we picked had a strong fishy smell, and the seafood overall did not taste fresh. And the bathroom was very very dirty 😥 that made us imagine what the kitchen is like. We specifically asked for no spice since we were sharing with kids, but that request was not followed. The staff seemed stressed and not very kind, the bathroom was unacceptably dirty, and the Greek salad was soggy — almost like it had been left from another table. I hope this was just an off night, but it didn’t feel like the warm and bustling Astoria Seafood I used to love. Really hope the quality and service improve again.

Horrible experience from a point of view. Even the food was good, acceptable, at the end after we paid and went out from the place, a waiter run after us and didn't let us go forcing us to pay tips, in a very threatening way. The most unorganized place I've ever eaten in NYC. No host greets you to inform you on how to order. The waiters are all over the place always asking what you ordered There is no one to inform you if a table is ready for you. So if you don't speak up they will sit someone else down. Once we sat down we were notified that there were no alcoholic drinks. You must bring your own. Only street parking Food was not that great The dish with the clams had a small hair and once we told the waiter we were told they couldn't do anything about it.

At first was really nice. Guy on the counter real helpful and welcoming. I made sure to tip generously saw them working vigorously even with takeout. Then came back for my order and the attitude was very unprofessional and rude. Not even a head nod to just say “I got you”. I looked for the original counter guy he wasn’t around. Then I had asked for more sauce for the calamari I specifically said marinara he gave me tartar and plenty cocktail sauce. Really upset and disappointed. There’s 3 of us that wouldn’t come back. I do not recommend. They didn’t even clean the shrimp. The heavy set guy with the gold bracelet and a red shirt on today should be fired the lack of courtesy, common sense, and disrespectful nature was just such a turn off! We won’t be back!

Worst experience! The resto is super noisy, chaotic and unorganized. My order got messed up and I ended up waiting for an hour to get the food. We are excited to buy the fish. We bought one 5lbs seabass. they grilled to go. We waited for 3 hours. I don’t know why it took that long from falling inline to grilling. We fall inline to register around an hour and 2 hours waiting for the fish. When I hold the fish that given to me it was way way so light. So I peeked inside and asked.. is this the 5lbs seabass fish that I bought? She said yes few times, though I was in doubt.. went home because been waiting for a long time and way passed dinner time.. rushed to go home. When I get home I weigh the fish and it is just 1 lb( yes one lb) where is the 4 lbs went? Even after cleaning and after all the water came out it wont shrink 5lbs to 1 lb. Bad and disappointing experience. The place is smelly, and dirty. The way they handle things are dirty too..I saw this server screaming and running after customer about the tip dissatisfaction. Very unprofessional and shaming character. Not going back.

I only got 6 shrimps when I dine in. When I confronted the waitress. She said to me I have to go talk to the cook. I AM A CUSTOMER, WHY DO I HAVE TO CONFRONT THE COOK??? At the end, I got my 12 shrimps. The food is not good as it sounds. Shrimps were over cooked! I asked for no feta cheese on my salad, there were feta cheese on it and there were fish scales in my salad. The place is dirty. They don't sweep the floors, trash can were full. Also, it took them 1hr and half for them to bring my food! I don't think I would go back there again.
