I went here for dinner with my husband and we had such a great time thanks to the server, the chef and the staff. I am here celebrating my birthday and we wanted to have a nice dinner, we asked the lovely server, Isabela, if there was anything else vegan on the menu, she said she would ask the chef. The chef went out of his way to create a dish not on the menu for me due to my dietary restrictions. They were so happy to accommodate me. We felt that the server went above and beyond for us! The food was delicious! And it is also beautiful space. 10/10
This place is really nice!! We came at 6:30pm so it was already dark. It wan nice inside. Everything frok the food to the service was excellent. Definitely reccomend.
So we've dined at numerous high end restaurants and I'll have to say this hidden gem is amazing!! Some restaurants have amazing service, some have food that looks as great as it taste. Chef Dustin Badenell, our Server Abel and the rest of the staff have it all covered from start to finish. From drinks to starters to entrees and definitely don't forget dessert it was the most amazing meal we have had out in quite some time. It is absolutely on our list to visit again, soon! Also my wife is vegan and she was just as delighted with the choices and options they had for her as well. Thank You Chef Dustin and staff for a wonderful birthday dinner for my wife.
The food was extremely delicious. My friend ordered the chicken achiote dinner plate and I ordered the Patty Pan Squash. The half baguette for an appetizer. The bread was perfectly crispy just like crusty bread should be. The main entree was fantastic. The chicken flavor was spot on and unbelievably tender. My veggies were cooked just right and had a great flavor. The food is a definite must try
Had a fantastic dinner experience at Norman. My girlfriend and I stayed at the Skyview property and didn’t want to venture out again after a long day of wine tasting so we decided to try the restaurant attached to our hotel and it was such a great decision. Starting off with the yellowfin crisps, the freshness of all the ingredients were perfect. You can really taste all the different flavors from the fish to the Japanese slaw to the soy glaze. Everything sat on crispy, airy, fried won tons. Great appetizer to start the meal off with. Kept it simple and ordered the Bates Burger and that exceeded my expectations as well. The American wagyu beef was so tender and juicy. The caramelized onions were done perfectly, and the creamy garlic aioli was the perfect extra layer to this phenomenal burger. For dessert we ordered the cookie skillet which was on special that night. Very warm cookie with firm edges and very soft and melty inside with a scoop of vanilla ice cream was the perfect way to finish off our meal. Will absolutely come back to eat here again in the future. Highly recommend if you’re in the area.
Had an absolutely amazing lunch with my wife. Such a beautiful place located in Los alomos right off the freeway. Outdoor seating has incredible mountain views. Great hosts, DELICIOUS FOOD.
The Norman is an amazing place to stop in your way up or down the coast. The menu is small but don't fret because it just means that the chef pays that much more attention to what comes out of the kitchen. The burger is delicious and has all the right toppings (do not skip the homemade ranch with your fries). The chicken is tender and comes with the best squash based sauce. The cocktails were not just cleverly named drinks that you can get from anywhere, but we're instead unique, well crafted and delicious. That just leaves the ambiance, which is beautiful reimagining of a high end '50s motel. Its worth the trip.
We have eaten at Norman’s twice. The food and cocktails have been great. Nice view of the valley when sitting at the bar. We had: Yellowfin Crisps as a starter, Japanese slaw, sesame ginger vinaigrette, furikake, soy mirin glaze, sriracha aioli. Grape and Candied Walnut Salad - spinach, radicchio, blue cheese, apple cider vinaigrette. Eastern Scallops - celeriac purée, grapefruit segments, beurre blanc, apple fennel slaw. All 3 of these dishes had excellent flavor. To finish off the dinner we had the Bread Pudding A La Mode. The ingredients on each dish paired together. Chef at Norman is very creative with the dishes.
This is such a cute place with an incredible view. I just moved to the area and came with some visiting family. We had a blast sitting by the pool, taking in the view, and enjoying the berry and burrata salad (among other things). I will be back.
We sat at the bar and enjoyed a Mike’s Margarita and an Aperol Spritz. The yellowfin crisps, guacamole appetizer, and spinach salad were worth it. The house made chips were my favorite part by far.
Had the lemon and almond cake. The berries were delicious and great presentation. The drink was a strawberry lavender soda.
Delicious lunch, beautiful pool. Definitely a place I could turn to and just hang and relax for a week.
Great food with high-quality and fresh ingredients. Outside patio provides a pleasant atmosphere. One of the many gems the Los Alamos culinary scene has to offer.
Wow! I had heard great things about this place and took my father to give it a try. It was unbelievable how good and relaxing it was. The food was Incredible and the atmosphere was so relaxing. This place is a must!
This restaurant is attached to the Skyview hotel (which in itself is a cozy, retro, fun place to stay). We came in late and decided to give it a try and it was awesome. Great food, perfectly made cocktails, and wonderful service. Highly recommend!
Amazing! We just had appetizers and cocktails but will definitely be back to stay for the weekend and dinner! The pool is nice and the views are amazing. Team is all amazing with awesome customer service!
Food was delicious. Beet salad had amazing flavor, even tho they forgot the beets, LOL. Wagyu burger tasted very good also. Loved the view, atmosphere
Stayed the night at the hotel. Enjoyed a beverage by the outside gas fire pit and meet some friendly travelers. Then dinner, were we enjoyed an awesome gourmet burger preceded by yellow fin appetizer.
This restaurant is a MUST. We were pleasantly surprised on how unreal the food and drinks were! Staff is extremely nice, service great and the ambiance on point! Highly recommend. Their spicy margarita is A++
Wonderful lunch experience! Drinks were refreshing. We followed the wait staff recommendations and they did not disappoint. If we are in the area again, we will dine there again.
We were staying on the property and decided to try the restaurant. The restaurant is well decorate and had a fun and inviting vibe. The service was wonderful and our food was amazing. I had the steak and my husband had the salmon. We had the chefs special for dessert (a pizookie with Carmel ice cream) and even got a second one because it was so good. We will definitely dine here again!
Was never a huge fan of this restaurant…till discovered Taco Tuesday with Zach tending bar. He always makes us feel welcome. Mixes a great cocktail. And creates an atmosphere that keeps us coming back every week. As a local it’s nice having a friendly place where everyone knowns our name. Never leave Zach!!!
Too cute of a place, we made reservations for 7 and almost everyone at our table ordered steak… it was one of the best steaks I’ve ever had, delicious. If you get the blackberry cheese appetizer you have to order extra bread because the crostinis are definitely not enough but whatever. We also had the apple burrata salad and it was delicious as well and service was excellent! Highly recommend the apple bread pudding with vanilla ice cream, it was divine
My wife and I finally took our sister and boyfriends advice to not only stay at The SkyView Motel, but to eat at Norman's. What a beautiful dining experience. Dinner was outstanding as well as breakfast. Our servers Zack and Ava went above and beyond . Locally sourced food, great ambience ,great place to stay and great customer service. What more could you ask for. We live in Florida so can't say when we will come back, but we will, one way or the other. Highly recommended!!!
Amazing food and the wait staff are fantastic! My husband and I felt perfectly comfortable amid the pandemic and had the best service we could’ve hoped for. I can’t emphasize enough how well the staff worked, I wish I knew all their names but can only name 1 our waiter Carlos. They all constantly checked in on us and made sure we had a great experience. We will be coming back (hopefully post COVID whenever that happens)!
We had a fantastic dinner here last night! Great service, delicious and extensive cocktail menu, and very good food. The mid century vibe and cozy atmosphere was the perfect setting for date night on a cold winter evening!
First time here. Playing was drab, but tasteful and very homey. Bridgett, our server, was one of the best we've had in a long, long time. Patient, not rushy, accommodating and cheerful. Host was a little dismissive, but kind, nonetheless. Ordered of slew of beverages and menu items. Mac and cheese could have used a bit more sauce, and flavors. Perhaps seasoning? Also the cheese could have been melted better. The cornbread was fire! Probably the best I've had, with wagyu talo. Sort of sick of the hot honey phase, but this hit. The maldon was the percent touch. Spicy, salty, sweet and fatty. Hit all the buttons. Sous vide confit duck was brilliant. Again, very high up on the best ever list. Could have been a little hotter. Cauliflower needed some pizazz. Pretty plain. (Oh, also Mac and cheese could've had more chorizo, although the flavor was bangin!) Prawn risotto was great! Prawns were not over cooked, which is typical. Good consistency and beautiful acidity. The absolute best thing was the turnip soup. Curry, I believe it was. Soft potatoes for some chew, but very nice consistency. Easily one of the best soups I've had. Different, yet familiar. We'll definitely be back. When the line at Flatbread is too long and you don't feel like paying for an overpriced, bought Michelin dinner, come here.
So, I remember when the Skyview was a mom and pop operation off the 101. My daughters and I would come and stay while we hiked and later played in the pool. Since the ownership change, I finally came to the newly opened Norman’s restaurant. Great service, fair prices and the food was excellent!! Not to mention the work they did on the premises. Very Nice!!! I plan to be back with friends for the area, and restaurant. It was a winner.
Our dinner and service was excellent! They served the most delicious version of “Mary’s half chicken” I have ever had in my life! You will not be disappointed with the food and their attentive service on what could be a hectic Saturday night anywhere else. We cleaned our plates!
Beautiful property off the beaten path of Los Alamos. Service was good but food was overall just ok. They would prefer you park a hundred yards or so at the bottom of the hill and walk up to the restaurant, but I ignored the "hotel guests only being this point" sign. You should too. Buttermilk fried chicken sandwich was good but the fries were cold and stale. Beet and burrata salad was good if unremarkable. New batch of hot fries were as good as frozen unseasoned fries get. Kind of an unsure mix of hip and southwestern diner decor with some interesting art inside. They also have outside dining by the pool with a view. It's a cool relaxing place and I'm sure we'll give it another chance.
We loved ambience and we had yummy tomato soup , shrimp & grits it was a okay dish , bates burger was good it was medium well and it had the crisp and softness. For desert we had chef special with vanilla scoop it was okay
The restaurant is part of a motel built in the 50s....and the vibe as you walk past the rooms is totally that feel. The service is attentive and knowledgeable about the food. They have a good wine selection, which is important given the area's vineyards and quality wine options.
Again I have said this before, please go and check out all these places. Skyview has some of the best guacamole we have had. Good times! The hotel has great rooms and the food is off the hook. If your in between places, this is a must stop and see. Los Alamos has pretty cool things going on.
We were staying at the hotel and just dropped in for drinks. As far as being a bar goes, Norman is very comfortable with indoor and outdoor seating. It is very convenient to the hotel pool. They have a full bar and interesting cocktail list. I had a Paloma and my wife had a gin martini. They were both well prepared and fairly priced. Our server was good. The patio was comfortable. Norman is out-of-the-way a bit, but we are glad we stopped in.
Mediocre food. We got the steak and salmon. Added shrimp to the steak which was $12. The steak barely have any seasoning. The shrimp is the worst, it taste like someone just heat it up. No salt, no seasoning, no flavor at all. The salmon was cooked well, but the rest of the sides around it taste like a whole different dish. Everything is just bland. The only thing that’s good were the drinks from the bar. My partner had called ahead to ask the staff if they have bday candles for dessert. They confirmed they have it, but on the day, they served the dessert with a normal fat candle. The server apologized for not having a bday candle, so they sub with that one. By the time the server served the dessert, the candle had melted all over the dessert… It is a convenient place to have food if you stay at the motel, but I would recommend going somewhere else in the town. There are better places to eat with the price you pay.
Nice place for drinks at the end of the day, with great views of nearby hills and the 101 fwy. Their menu can use a hand, though.
We chose this place for the view and because its menu was more interesting than what was available on the main street. We were passing through town. One of the salads wasn't yet available, salmon was sold out because of some run on it the night before, meaning we had to order the pricier add-on fish, and the lovely-sounding salad I did receive didn't have half the promised ingredients...which might have been okay if I had been warned up front they'd be missing.(The greens looked a lot like the ones you get from a TJ's bag.) The location is gorgeous and the finishings are super, but I am not inclined to return and hope they'll get it together because they seem like nice people and have obviously sunk a ton of $$$ into the place.
Great food, a bit pricey, but I felt there should be more happening like some type of entertainment. The first waitress was not helpful at all, didnt split the check luke we told her, but the second waitress was much better and had no problem figuring it out and accommodating us with this request. Employers, screen your employees for effective workers!
Tuesday nights in Los Alamos means a lot of businesses are closed, so we drove over to Norman for dinner. The names of their drinks play off the Psycho movie, which is hysterical. We ordered off the Taco Tuesday menu getting their fish tacos and chicken tacos. The fish tacos were really good, but the chicken was completely inedible it was so dry. We ended up switching out the chicken for more fish, but it always hurts my heart when food, especially when it’s animal, is wasted. The service was friendly, so no complaints there.
I ordered a cocktail at room temp, specified for it not to be shaken with any ice. It came ice cold as it was shaken over ice. When i bought it to our waitress attn. She came back and said they couldnt serve at room temp? I go to high end restaurants and the have no problem with serving it how I want. They did take it off the tab as i didnt drink it. My partner asked foe a martini shaken with ice and yhey served it over ice? We ordered two appetizers which were just okay. Quite a disappointing experience plus they had a very large dog in the dinibg area(did not appear to be a service dog) we love dogs but dont take to indoor restaurants. Not sure we will try it again.
Took forever to get a drink after ordering. Charcuterie board was overpriced, four pieces of meat , four pieces of toast and cheese for $24? When main dish arrived, food was cold ( barely above room temperature) the table next to us had the same issues! Don’t think we’ll be back, highly disappointed after being recommended by a few friends.
We waited for food for over 90 minutes, even though the restaurant was not busy, and everything we received was lukewarm and underwhelming. Cocktails were nice though.
We were with a large group and my order must have been forgotten about. Everyone had received their food except me. After maybe approx 15 minutes I called it to the waiters attention. Within about 5 minutes I had my food. The scrambled eggs were boring. That is all they were, no seasoning, no color, just eggs. The bacon was cold and the country fries were more like croutons. I also ordered a croissant, which was partially burnt. I returned my plate to the waiter, he offered me something else, unfortunately I had lost my appetite by then. I did have an expresso martini which was very good, but with an outlandish price of $17. Also, my husband felt his brakfast burrito was bland, he had to smother it in salsa for any flavor. I gave them 2 stars for the good drink and the place was clean. I was hoping for a destination restaurant close by, but NO. We were very disappointed.
In town for the first time we decided to try Skyview and heard it may require a reservation so we booked one online only to have it decline. We went there anyway to see if it was open and it was. A nice old group of ppl were eating and the bar, looking fully stocked, was beautiful too. They were prepping for a party and so we were given a happy hour menu. I came for the Avocado toast but it wasn't on the menu. Instead, a ton of things not in my dietary plan were listed. Never got to try the food. Parking was a bit unclear as well so, expect a 50% chance Skyview is a burnt mission.
Was really looking forward to this meal as my sister has eaten here before. Appetizers were excellent. Half baguette was warm, and compote was great. The charcuterie platter was fresh and abundant. Dinner was disappointing on so many levels. I ordered the wagyu beef burger with fries and avocado. The waiter asked if I wanted bacon, and two of us answered, "No, just avocado." What came was just bacon. Had to ask for avocado and then was charged for bacon I didn't ask for. Sister had steak dinner with mashed potatoes and grilled asparagus. What she got was a steak, with cold mashed potatoes and (literally) charred black broccoli florettes. She mentioned this to the waiter, and he agreed that the order was wrong. He returned 10 minutes later with plain, unroasted (microwaved?) asparagus with no seasoning and less flavor. The potatoes were still cold. My wife ordered the pork chop, which was wonderful, but again, her sweet potatoes were cold. I regularly pay 200.00 for dinner and if I get a 200.00 meal, then I have no problem paying. If I feel I've gotten my monies worth, I've often tipped a hundred bucks on that occasion. Tonight was not that. Feel bad for my sister as she had talked Norman's up all day, only to be left disappointed. Unfortunately I won't be giving it a second chance.
I would like to say that I have eaten here many times before. The food was always great. But today, not so. I almost asked if they had a different cook. If the manager or owner of Norman's read this, please get a better cook, and better food. Currently, just mediocre.
Wish you could separate experiences when reviewing. We had dinner here not too long ago. This morning I ordered the croissant sandwich, which came on a bread that was not a croissant. The cheese is not smoked and the aoili is a fancy way of saying mayonnaise. Probably Hellman's or lower quality, from the taste. $22 breakfast sandwich with $3 tip. Not an ideal situation. The bread was toasted, which is a plus, but overall not too happy with thos choice. Jake, who took my order, was very polite and kind. Much appreciated in a world of poor hospitality and service. Needs some work, but I'm interesting in trying the breakfast burrito and the chilquiles. Like before stated, we had a good dinner some time back, but the quality of the food (for the PQR) needs some work.
Beware restaurant week at Norman’s! Total rip off! Waited an hour to get appetizers which was a minuscule crab cake, about 4 small bites. Waited another hour to get our entrees which were an embarrassment. Tiny plates with one tiny sliver of chicken & about 1/4 cup mashed potatoes on a cold plate. Off the regular menu, these 2 dishes cost $42; we were charged $40 for almost no food! Dessert was 2 pieces of pound cake about the size of a cracker for which we had waited another 1/2 hour! We all left hungry. As locals, we will not be returning after this insult!
As you can see on my photo their very expensive Bates burger was charred and tasted horrible. The French fries were overly salted. Avoid.
Literally calling for 15mins for a ride to the restaurant and they never answered. The parking situation is frustrating if you have anyone with mobility issues and can't hike up since the lot is at the bottom of the hill.
