First time coming here. The place was beautiful, open and spacious. The food was delicious, the best chicken & waffles I’ve ever had. You can really taste the quality, good ingredients & love put into the food. Service was great, everyone was helpful, from the hostess, to server & everyone in between.

Myself and 3 other friends had the most amazing dinner at Alta last night, I've been looking forward to trying this restaurant for ages (we live in Canada) so we made sure to make a reservation for our trip to Los Angeles. We had the fried chicken which was one of the best we'd ever had, partly thanks to the unbelievable in house hot sauce served with it. We ended up putting it on the Oxtail, the Gumbo, and the collard greens as well! The banana creme brulee was also one of the best desserts I've ever had 🤤

I love the atmosphere, food/drinks, service and hospitality at Alta. I go at least 2 times a month and highly recommend it. I like that they list Black and women owned on the menu. The drink and food menu changes every couple of months and the starters are a treat too. I usually start with cornbread and honey butter and the deviled eggs. For entrees, I like the blackened salmon, wood-grilled 12oz ribeye, and chicken and shrimp gumbo. For dessert I like 7 up cake more than the banana pudding crème brûlée

We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves! The food? Delicious! The drinks? Deliciously effective! The atmosphere? A total vibe! We’re visiting LA and stopped into Alta at a friend’s recommendation. We had the “old dog new trick,” which is their version of an old fashioned. It was initially a bit sweet but once the ice melted in slowly (large cube) it was delicious and mellowing. The deviled eggs were all the rave and so were the black eyed peas fritters. Warning for the spiced challenged… the fritters are a bit on the spicy side and are served with an amazing avacado whip sauce. I cannot tolerate spicy foods (I’m a spicy wimp really) but the flavor… amazing, with hints of corn meal infused, almost like mama’s dressing from the Deep South! The fried chicken was so good and flavorful yet crispy and the yams were fantastic as well. The chicken was a 6 piece order shared by the table and had 2 drums, 2 wings and 2 thighs. We took a slice of sweet potato cheesecake to go. I only wish I knew how amazing it was going to be before ordering it to go because it goes great with fresh coffee. The service was exceptional with very helpful host and wait staff! The music was a chill 90s R&B playlist. Parking is on the street but there is a valet option for $10 plus gratuity. Overall, so glad we came and will definitely return if time permits!

This was on my list of places to visit while in LA and it did not disappoint. Came here for Sunday brunch with my sister and it was lovely. It was so peaceful sitting in the garden and the service was impeccable. Try the wine flight! For brunch we had the fish, black-eyed pea fritters, sweet potato soup, candied yams and shrimp and grits. The presentation was on point and so were the flavors!

Great atmosphere. Upscale home cooking. For the prices, paired side dishes should come with the entrée. They don't, except for a bed of grits that come with the delicious oxtail. The brisket was dry and not tender. Very little sauce came with the brisket and scarcely added to the flavor. The blackened salmon was nicely cooked but all the seasoning (blackening) was on one edge of the filet. Fried chicken was good, but all you get is three pieces, nothing else for the price. The yams and mac&cheese were ok (mom's are better) but was the price justified? I could go there again (very pricey), but I'll go to mom's instead.

The restaurant from the outside looks very small. The interior is divided up into several large rooms and there are outside sections in rear of the restaurant that is open air. There are several heating units on the upper walls and portable heating units on the floor. The tables are chairs are easy to move around to accommodate all size parties. There is a full service bar. The prices are moderate. Some of the dishes served were good and other dishes served were fair. The service was very good and the restaurant is very clean.

Beautiful aesthetics, tasty food and great service. I visited with a group and was impressed. They are pricey because I had never paid $6 for a cup of hot tea. The house made hot sauce was tasty and I purchased a bottle as a gift for someone I know who loves hot sauce. Loved the brisket!

We ordered 5 dishes including salad, dessert, and the mains in the picture. All of them were delicious and more than enough for 3 women. I liked the unique fusion taste, especially in fried chicken, pork chops and pies for dessert. The atmosphere was lively with many guests and ethnic music. I would come back for a little bit nicer occasion, as the price was a bit too much for a casual dinner without any drinks.

The vibe was pretty cool (decor, ambiance, crowd, and music selection) however the food was overpriced and underwhelming. The portions were small and the flavor just wasn't there. I ordered the fried catfish and grits and candied yams. They gave me two small pieces of fried catfish and a small amount of grits. The grits had a good texture, but they were bland and so was the sauce they were covered in. It came with chunks of sausage and two TINY pieces of okra. For the price, I expected much more flavor and a much larger portion. The candied yams were regular, but the sauce was too watery. The waitress was cool, but nothing to rave about. The greeter was blah. It almost seemed as if she didn't enjoy her job. Random wait staff asking how the food was were more enthusiastic than the greeter. For the price, I expected someone warmer. Valet was friendly. My friend and I were in agreement that the food was underwhelming and overpriced, but the atmosphere was nice.

Really beautiful location, I especially loved the outdoor shaded seating. The food however was incredibly lackluster but the sauces saved everything. The highlights of the entire meal were the Fresno hot sauce and the honey butter. We had the cornmeal pancakes, oxtail and grits, shrimp and grits, a match latte and London fog latte. Both lattes were overly sweetened, and this is coming from a person with a huge sweet tooth. The shrimp and grits and oxtail and grits were underseasoned and underwhelming and overpriced. The worst thing by far were the cornmeal pancakes which were incredibly bland. Our server was also inattentive and forgetful, forgot several of our items and barely checked on it. I do have to say two men who seemed to be running dishes were great, super attentive and kind. Overall wish the food were better because the spot is so cute and has a good vibe.

5/5 on taste, service and atmosphere, but the value of what you get vs what you pay for is astounding. $5.50 for a drip coffee which says it includes one free refill, but the cup itself looks like it is about 4 oz. The small dish pictured was $31 alone or $38 including the chicken andouille sausage. $7 for 5 small thinly sliced pieces of sausage is really high. Again I loved the food but not worth what it costs. Sorry. If I’ve paid $38 for a breakfast dish I really do not want to be be wondering what I should pick up on the way home to fill me up.

Ah. Not great but not terrible. I've heard mixed reviews over the years and now that I've visited, I have mixed feelings. This review is for dinner. I hear brunch is good. I would like to return and try brunch and the signature cocktails, they all sounded good. Service was great, appreciate our server's humor and recommendations. Cute decor, nice space. Outside terrace is cute, few tables are wobbly. Never understood why restaurants don't put levelers under the table legs. THE FOOD: overall, good attempts, but missed the mark. Lovely presentation. Overpriced for taste and portion size. Unfortunately, nothing was so good it makes want to run back. Blackened Salmon - the best thing we tried, delicious and creative. Although the medium-rare was very much medium, still was good. The salmon piece was on the small side. The potatoes were perfect and the little curry sauce drizzle and the bottom was everything. Oxtails - So good. I don't care for oxtails at all, but these were definitely a highlight, cooked and seasoned well without being salty and sloppy. Would like of there was something creative done to the brown rice it odd served with, or at least more gravy to enjoy the plain rice. Collard Greens - no. Absolutely not. Missing all the things. Rather have had them sautéed with garlic. Cornbread loaf - was just a cornbread loaf. Wish it came warmer, the butter was nice. Black eyed peas Fritters - good with the serving sauce. The sauce was really good. Fritters were creative and a good shareable appetizer. Fried Chicken - did not live up to its hype. It's just basic fried chicken and expensive baby size pieces and No breast meat option. Cooked well, sure. Nice crisp, sure. But lacked seasoning to make it stand. It's just looked sad. The hot sauce was really good...and needed on the chicken. Chocolate Banana Bread - oh man, so much promise, but super dry.
