Came here today w/ a friend for the first time - this place is a hidden gem! Unassuming from the outside, but the food and drinks are delicious and refreshing. We had the Green Eggs entree and the Buckwheat Pancakes and they were simply tasteful! The best takeaway is the service, and how friendly and courteous the staff were during our experience here today. Thank you guys and we’ll surely be back!
Very fresh quality dishes. Gluten free options are why we came. Do not live in the area but this place is on our list as highly recommend when in the area. Cute quaint neighborhood vibe.
Delicious, high-quality, fresh ingredients. Tons of gluten-free options, and many other dietary restrictions as well. Breakfast, lunch, baked goods….all just SO GOOD!
Love this place! The best Venezuelan chocolate latte, churros, and empanadas you will find in SoCal. I return even though I dont live in pasadena anymore. Their proprietary coco powder is so uniquely delicious and lasts for months… a great addition to your morning cafe. Their special blend of coffee beans are roasted by specifically roasted by Jones coffee (excellent local roastery). Every revisit never disappoints but only continues to impress! Photos posted by other reviewers are accurate. Family owned and operated. 🙏💫😍
Went here twice this week while visiting family in the HP area. Loved it both times. Tried the Green Eggs my first visit. Delicious. Tried the Paleo pancakes and a few incredible bites of my moms Avocado toast. I’ll order that next time. I also really enjoyed my Amara milk cappuccino. Bonus experience while waiting in line a lady recommended and offered to buy a chocolate chip cookie for me. But the lady behind the counter just handed it to me as a kind and generous gesture. Super nice people at Amara. Awesome little gem in Highland Park.
Excellent option for people with dietary restrictions - dairy, gluten, nuts. Bison ragu and buckwheat pancakes are so good. And the chocolate chip cookies! 🤯
Good good in a small, homey neighborhood kitchen joint. I had the Purple Eggs with a side of prosciutto. There were so many yummy flavors in the dish: the her by fresh greens, the savory potato patties, the tart pickled purple cabbage, and the sweet beets. My niece had a delicious plate of Paleo Pancakes. I had a bite, they were tasty and moist, not dry like some gluten free pancakes are. Definitely stop by is you can. It's easy to miss, but follow your GPS and you'll get there.
Food and service was amazing! I got the Avocado toast with eggs and salad upgrade with an expresso for $16. Will definitely return. I recommend this to anyone who concerned with health as most of the menu accommodates gluten free diets, vegan (not my plate though), and vegeterian diets. I felt welcomed and very comfortable here. The ambiance is like a clean urban get away especially with the background music. Not a big deal but deal but they should fix their light bulbs. Cheers!
Great go-to spot for breakfast. With all the restaurants popping up in Highland Park and Eagle Rock, this place stands out well above anything else for breakfast and lunch on a daily basis- not just weekend brunch! Totally healthy, fresh ingredients along with a very friendly staff. Had some great paleo pancakes with a side of poached eggs. They also have a nice canned organic coconut water for the other coconut water afficianados out there:-)
Amara rocks. Im not veg or vegan and i almost always get their veg or vegan sando/burrito. And the salads?! Come on! Insane that a breakfast salad ia this good. Purple or green, drip or cortado, Amara rocks it, HARD.
The vegan pastries, 10/10!!! I go there a lot and service and everything is great... But guys, it's always so hot inside.. please fix the AC😩
Nice neighborhood spot for lunch! We arrived on a Sunday at 12pm, and the line was to the door. Nevertheless, staffers provided super pleasant service. Once you order, they give you a number and you bus your own table. Some favorites: * Sweet potato quesadilla ($13.25): Fairly enjoyable. I love quesadillas and felt healthy eating this one. * Saffron latte ($6): I didn't realize that saffron lattes are made without coffee, oops. It's served in a glass. Nice caffeine-free option if you're into that. * Side of bison ragu ($9): Excellent! We didn't finish most of this, but brought it home and made some pasta with it. * Chocolate chip cookie: I forgot to order this until I'd already gotten to my seat. It's super soft to the touch, with a really interesting texture (almost fudgey). Vegan and gluten-free! This review was made in connection with a Toast promotion.
You wouldn't expect this to be a restaurant based on the outdoor appearance, but it is. The food is pretty good. I had an Americano that was nothing crazy but satisfied the need. The sausage was unique, bison I believe. The staff are unusually kind - I felt an immediate connection with them.
One of our very fav sunDATE breakfasts. My husband and I come here often! Buckwheat pancakes are ELITE. Also highly recommend the bison sausage.
Loved this spot! It had incredible food! Came here with my friend (her pick) and it did not disappoint. I had the purple eggs, she had the green eggs, and we shared the buckwheat pancakes. The pancakes had a crumbly texture and were tasty. I also grabbed a matcha and a cookie to go both were fantastic. The staff was nice and the place has a lovely atmosphere for a Sunday brunch, a weekday breakfast or a weekday lunch. Highly recommend.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Amazing croissant breakfast at Cafe Amara! Stopped by with a friend and tried their ham, egg, and cheese croissants — and wow! The croissant was warm, flaky, and buttery, stuffed with perfectly cooked eggs, savory ham, and crispy bacon. Everything was fresh and full of flavor. The iced coffee was smooth and refreshing too. Great spot for a casual and cozy breakfast. We’ll definitely be back! Highly recommend if you’re in the area and craving something delicious.
Healthy and delicious! I love this place. You always feel good after leaving and you know you put something good in your body. Highly recommend!
Always looking for GF options and somehow this place showed up today on my feed. OMG how did I not find it before? I didn't get photos of our food but everything was delicious - I did bring a couple goodies home and I am eating the cupcake as I write this. To make the experience even better? Montana who was taking our orders. Spot on recommendations and patience while we asked lots of questions about other items. My friend said she could here every day - I concur.
Cash is not accepted, which seems pretty normal nowadays 🤷♀️ Dishes are vast and any pick is delicious. Beverage size (Orange juice) is small... (maybe enough considering it is sugar with no fiber). It can get crowded and there is only one bathroom available. 😅
The young counter lady worked at Amara for 10 years and her recommendation are for the purple egg dish was excellent. The green egg dish was also great. Fun vibe. Outdoor seating at a premium.
Excellent breakfast burritos. And a nice crowd.
I need 5 more stars for this spot. What a super cute little spot. Overflowing with warmth and great innergy. I had the breakfast burrito with chicken some rose tea latte… a vegan fudge brownie and a beautiful little apple muffin with edible flowers on top. I looooove this spot. I will be back. Again….and again…..and again. Everything was so amazing. Feel good food. I AM. So grateful.
One of my favorite spots ever! Delicious and healthy food that leaves you feeling good, plus super friendly employees. Good vibes for sure . It’s a tiny spot and it can be hard to find seating on busy days, but this will always be a go-to place!
Amara Kitchen exceeded my expectations with the amount of vegan/gluten free options considering it isn't a fully vegan or vegetarian place. The buckwheat pancakes were fantastic and so were the baked goods. The amara burrito can also be made vegan/gluten free and it's very tasty. Coffee was good and they even offered free refills. The menu is labeled very well with gluten free, gluten free optional, vegan, vegan optional, nut free, nut free optional, dairy free, dairy free optional, and paleo.
I moved to the areea a few yesrs ago, should of left a review bacm then when o forst tried this place out. The food is delicious, everyone ia chill, great little cafe to enjoy a good coffee and some tasty food. No complaints at all. I havnt had anything i didnt like.
I love this place so much. Food is incredible. Healthy. Vegan and non vegan options. Bison burgers and vegetarian quesadillas. The coffee is excellent. Just love it. The pancakes are stellar and they serve breakfast all day!!! They have it all!!!

It’s a real cool place doing vital and super interesting things. Local artisanal organic farming meets cooking school / test kitchen and it’s a restaurant. Best pizzas every Wednesday!
My favorite neighborhood cafe. Fresh, healthy, feel good food. An allergy aware staff. Great coffee - try the homemade cashew/almond milk. AND some amazing gluten free pastries. The chocolate chip cookie is a must, and the sweet corn muffin will surprise you!
My wife and I go to Amara Kitchen at least 2-3x a month. It’s one of our favorite neighborhood spots. We love it here! Our favorite menu items are the vegan burrito and the bison burrito. We also love the pastries (the vegan corn muffin and the crumble are both so yumm!) and ice coffee with Amara milk. They are dog friendly (there’s nice outdoor seating) and the staff is friendly. It can get very busy on weekends, so if you’re in a rush, I recommend ordering online and picking up to skip the line (pickup option is almost always ready within 20 minutes). Also for those who have a gluten allergy: my mother is celiac and the kitchen took extra care to prepare her a delicious gluten free burrito which she thoroughly enjoyed. Thank you, Amara, for our many delicious weekend breakfasts!

I came to this place twice in one week because their food is straight up delicious. I had the spicy quinoa bowl with chicken - healthy, full of flavor and made with fresh ingredients. The place itself looks a little run down, feels like an elementary school in fact. That aside they have great food and coffee, and a friendly vibe. PS- and maybe this is a good thing, No FREE WIFI, which means people are not using it as their office.
Okay Amara generally has good tasting food but I was slightly disappointed with the presentation and taste of the spicy chia. I ordered the vegan breakfast very tasty no complaints. Then I was still hungry so I ordered a single pancake and to my surprise it was a thin crumble of a pancake. The spicy chia was way too milky with absolutely no flavor or spice. Overall tasty food but needs to ensure consist quality of presentation especially with an 8% service added automatically to your bill.
I'm not much of a Vegan or Vegetarian Idol. But my Local friends are! Introduced me to a couple of Dishes different than the usual Breakfast Burrito and Chicken Salad. Very Tasty! Nice crowd. Courteous and all the accessories you need to Dine in or Take out is at the reach of your own hands. Not a Fancy place but Cozy! Service is Relatively Fast. Priced Adequately. But the cookies and Pastries you can't just eat one. Variety is great for those with Sweet Tooth! Like me! Good Frappuccino! Take a look!🤗
This place is rad for sure. I’ve only been once and I’m here now! Eating the buckwheat pancakes 🥞 they’re ok kinda dry and honestly a bit annoying to eat. Especially with the low quality flatware and deep lipped plate. I guess im hard to please. Most people probably wouldn’t even judge those things but I can’t help it. I’d come back. But won’t get this dish again.

Friendly staff and good food, with lots of vegan options, but the place was a little small without a lot of options for where to sit. I know that can't really be helped but it would have been nice to not feel crammed while eating. I ordered the vegan breakfast burrito, which was very flavorful and stuffed full of good ingredients, but I would skip one of the fancy drinks next time, as it was kind of flavorless for how much I paid for it. It was very nice that they swapped out honey for simple syrup though. They will swap out non-vegan ingredients for vegan ones if you ask.

The food here is fantastic - definitely five stars for quality and flavor. My only concern is the service, which could be more welcoming and attentive. Takeaway orders are sometimes left on the counter without names being called, so food can sit there getting cold while customers wait outside. I hope the team can work on improving this process, as it’s an easy fix for an otherwise great cafe.

Had really high hopes for this place. French girl recommended it to me. Unfortunately, the food didn't taste very good. I got the breakfast plate. My boyfriend got the pumpkin pancakes, and my friend got the huevos rancheros. All three of us were pretty dissatisfied, especially for the price we paid. 1 star is for the pearl rose tea, and the other is for the atmosphere/presentation, but the food was just no :( Too acidic, too bitter, weird combination of flavors.
The food is good. Other than that, what an extremely disorganized, stressful, and annoying dining experience. Just order to go.
I went in today to have breakfast with my family. We ordered Vegan Sandwich & Grilled Chicken Burrito. Vegan Sandwich was nothing but sweet potato and avocado in between bun and few rocket leaves on side. Grilled chicken burrito lacked taste and flavor. We spent more than $40 and I wouldn’t even pay $10 in total for both. It looked it to me that the owner is charging these exuberant prices to cover the rent and probably since it’s LA. Please save your money and only visit in case everything is closed.
I WILL NOT be coming back. Today, a customer, namely a white female customer, came in extremely frustrated that her door dash order was incorrect. They forgot butter, the drink was cold, etc etc and she drove all the way down with an injury to voice her complaints in person (and made it a big point that she had been crying and was so overwhelmed by a food order being not what she hoped) I was about two people down the line from this interaction, and while I stood at the register the staff did not acknowledge my presence, ask me to wait, or even ask for my patience as they address this grown woman And yes, I am a black woman, and the staff completely ignored me until I had to ask if I could order. Then , it took way too long to get a simple iced tea, and I had to say they could cancel it if it wasn’t ready. Meanwhile the staff carried the white woman’s bags to her car and gave her a refund, and begged her forgiveness for the forgotten butter and syrup. I could barely be helped. I will not be coming back, and felt very second class. I only got a pastry and an iced tea, and that does not take 30 minutes. I’m disappointed because I have made special trips to this location and have recommended it to GF friends. I hope the staff can learn to treat all customers with the same amount of care and respect.
