Opinions de Maciel’s Plant-Based Butcher Shop Los Angeles
Maciel’s Plant-Based Butcher came highly recommended by the community, and after trying it for the first time, I understand why. I started with their bestseller breakfast burrito, and it delivers exactly what you want in a classic breakfast build — hearty, flavorful, and properly balanced. The potatoes are cooked right, the textures work, and nothing feels like filler. It’s satisfying without being overly heavy. But the real surprise for me was The Green Burrito. Egg, spinach, sun-dried tomatoes, feta, salsa verde — and I added chorizo. The combination is layered, bright, and bold. The sun-dried tomatoes give it depth, the salsa verde cuts through beautifully, and the chorizo adds that extra savory punch. In my opinion, it actually outshined the bestseller. If you’re someone who appreciates a protein-forward, well-crafted breakfast burrito with intention behind the flavors, this is a spot worth pulling up to. Community-approved for a reason.
We ordered the Chicken Pesto and Flores. Both were very flavorful and generous in size for the price. We liked the chicken a bit better (the pesto was so good)! Flores was tasty but too sweet for me, I should have guessed by its description it would be a bbq flavor. Unassuming space with a steady stream of customers, counter service with outside tables and a decent selection of to-go stuff.
BEST vegan sandwiches in LA and a foodie destination. Don’t be like me and wait so long to try it! I avoided the sandos my friends recommended because I trust that they were great and wanted to try something that didn’t have influence in my opinion. I went the new-ish “The Smokey” and it blew my mind! The in-house deli slices were the main show and the spicy jam took it up a notch. It was balanced, the right amount of warm with delicate Smokey spiciness to it. I might need to eat through the entire menu! Make sure to get a pickle on the side and don’t be like me and forget to grab a Mac or potato salad too! Happy Munchies, aVeganAndHer
AMAZING sandwiches. We got the Smokey and chicken pesto, both were soo good but the Smokey was our favorite by a tad. The turkey in it was soo good. Even non vegans would love this place, the flavors and ingredient combos are just delicious. Super cute place where you can buy some veg meat and cheese and snacks too. Highly recommend and will be back soon.
Visited Maciel's for the first time. I'm not normally a big fan of 'fake meat', but decided to give this place a try since it is completely plant-based. I was impressed! I had the Smokey sandwich and it was very tasty. My daughter had the Cheeseburger and enjoyed it as well. They have a selection of Vegan desserts and grocery items as well.
Excellent restaurant. I was craving breakfast vegan food. It is fairly hard to find it in SoCal, but I found Maciel's. What I like about this restaurant is that has a diverse offering, from breakfast, to all-day items. They have some ready-to-go food (ranging from snacks to desserts), and a main menu that has something that everyone would like. I ordered a "Messy Biscuit", and a Reuben sandwich. Delicious and very hearty. I ate half of the Reuben on the way home, and some of the biscuit. I also bought their potato salad, and turkey "meat". The potato salad tastes great. I haven't tried the turkey yet, but it looks good. I want to come back with friends because it has a cafe-vibe. It feels like a great place to chill/relax on a weekend. If you enjoy breakfast, sandwiches, and Mexican flavors, this vegan restaurant is worth a try. You won't leave hungry (if you dine in), and the food pairs beautifully with hot coffee or tea.
I had seen reviews for Maciel's before, and felt lucky I was close enough to stop for dinner. The pesto sandwich was so delicious, crispy, and the chicken cutlet was giiiiant. So worth the stop for a cozy classic vegan sando!
This place was very clean and tidy. They had a good selection at a decent value. There was lots of seating both indoors and out. Service was quick and polite. The staff seemed friendly. It was not hard to find and I think overall the restaurant represents a good value. I had the egg and chicken salad and they were both fairly good. Not incredible. But good. I would come back!
Tasty food and all plant based but tastes like regular food. I mean I’m not Vegan but I enjoy every type of food. So Vegan or not you’ll get good service here and good food. It’s a small place but worth stopping by. Definitely recommend.
This place is delicious! It was difficult to find a place that makes really good vegan sandwiches until I found this place! I got a pastrami French dip and it was amazing! The meat they use is such good quality and the potato salad was also great!
I came to order some hoagies for a birthday picnic so I got a variety and all were a hit. I liked them so much I came back the next morning to try their breakfast. I’m not vegan but my girlfriend is and it was really nice to be able to go somewhere together and try a bunch of items and share foods without worrying it will make her sick. I found the staff super helpful and friendly and the food was really really good. I purchased the bacon and have been cooking with it with a lot of success.
Maciel's Plant-Based Butcher & Deli is fantastic! The food is incredible, the atmosphere is warm, and the staff make you feel like family. Their Flores sandwich is a masterpiece – proof that plant-based food absolutely rivals the classics. If you haven't tried Maciel's yet, you're missing out on a seriously delicious experience. (Didn't get a pic of the Flores before we devoured it😂)

Wow! SO GOOD. Got the Steak and Gouda sandwich and it honestly blew me away. So much flavor, and so fresh. Also the staff was super nice. Can’t wait to come back!
One of my fav restaurants in LA for vegetarians. The most delicious sandwich. I always get the Reuben because the meat is made with beans and their sauerkraut is good and they have marble rye which is amazing. It hits the spot every time. Loving this place so much!

Girlfriend and I had the pleasure of trying their breakfast items. Holy cow. The breakfast burrito was unbelievable. We're breakfast burrito snobs and we've tried more than we can count, from Moody's to Eggtuck to so many more. This burrito takes the cake, hands down. The sauce that they put inside the burrito takes a simple bundle of eggs, bacon, and potatoes and transforms it into something heavenly. The flavors that this burrito offers is unmatched. Whoever created this menu really knows their stuff. If you end up visiting this place, get the breakfast burrito and thank me later.
This is my first time visiting this place as someone who is revisiting the idea of being more plant based. The places has a really cool butchers deli feel when you walk in so you almost forget the food is not meat. The service was great you can tell they stay busy during the day but they still answer questions if you have any. The food was very delicious and if you don’t tell me that it’s plant based I wouldn’t be able to tell the difference. The quality of the ingredients is felt on the first bite and the flavors meshed so well. This is a place I will visit again I would 100% recommend to any one who is trying to or is a currently on plant based diet mission.
everything i've eaten here has blown my socks off seriously. and staff is really friendly and makes choosing easier and very smooth to order to stay or to go. but seriously the flavors the steak and gouda sandwich. the rueben is incredible. even the cold case or baked goods so so tasty. always a hit. and parking easy. literally only thing that would make maciel's better is more locations or a bigger space with a license for wine etc. can't wait to see what's in future for them wish i was in highland park more often they would have all my money.
I had the chicken pesto sandwhich, and OMG! Everything you could ever want in a sandwich - gooey, crispy, cheesy, pesto-y... it is extremely difficult to find top notch vegan sandwiches, and Maciel's definitely fits the bill! The chicken pesto is also huge which is great for leftovers. I got fries to go with it and a banana chocolate chip cookie. Everything was superb!
I've been plant-based for over 10 years... this Deli proved to be TOP TIER in my experience. The owner gave his wife all the credit for the recipes too, so you know the vibes are right. This further affirmed the intentionality of flavor, ingredient use, and pairings. I literally order a new sandwich of theirs every weekend, and I'm continuously fulfilled, not to mention I feel like I still have tons to taste test. Their menu is ample. When I finally made it to the shop to see where the magic happened, I was further enamored with the deli offerings. Literally all of it: the array of protein offerings, the Rebel Cheese they sell, the ingredient knowledge demonstrated by the staff... I happily overspent. This place is food science taken to the next level of flavor. Queso dip is a must-try, and the Gouda-Steak sandwich is a star. That being said, I've never not loved a menu item here. Grateful for their mission and vision, and flavor achievement!
Had a craving for a pastrami sandwich and decided to finally try this place! I'm not a vegan, but I enjoy eating vegan food. I thought the whole sandwich was delicious, great ratio of sauerkraut, the cheese was entirely melted, and wasn't dry at all! I will definitely order this again. I also had the potato and leek soup. The soup was reminiscent of a gravy-like texture. I personally loved the thickness of it. There were lots of herbs in the soup as well. Can't wait to try more things from here!

Great Reuben sandwich! I’ve never had one before and this was phenomenal. My fiancé got the French Dip and wasn’t a big fan… The au jus sauce was more like a gravy in consistency and taste and the sandwich doesn’t need mustard/pickles because that’s not really a french dip. She also added that the meat for this french dip isn’t the right kind of meat for regular french dips. Basically she doesn’t believe that it should be called a French Dip on the menu. We sat outside and it felt great today, they had a nice patio. Overall I’m giving it a 4 for the positives of taste of my reuben and atmosphere and the negatives of high prices and a lackluster french dip. I believe it would have been a 5 star had we not ordered the french dip and got another sandwich though.

I want to start by saying I loved the food here! The Ruben is so tasty. The salads are also tasty.First time I went I actually was helped out by the owner, it was such a lovely experience. Second time was a mess: So I placed an online order and when I arrived I went to let them know I was here by name. That is when I encountered an employee named Giselle R. She informed me they just got out of a rush so my food would take longer than expected. I said "okay, can I please have mayo with my fries instead of ketchup" she said I would have to get charged for the mayo despite wanting a substitute. I was irritated but fine. I went to pay and she wouldn't even let me enter my number for rewards. I said "I would like mustard on my sandwich" she then let me know I would also have to be charged for that. I said you know what never mind I'll just wait for my food. I went to sit outside when I noticed someone who was dining in outside asked for a condiment and didn't have to pay. Once again I was annoyed but whatever. As I waited here comes Giselle walking up to me saying "23?23?" I was confused and said excuse me? And she finally said "are you number 23?". I said "no ma'am and my name is Symone, Which I gave when I placed my order online and when I walked in". She said "oh" and walked off like nothing happened. Finally when I got my food I checked my bag. There was the mayo along with ketchup I let be known I didn't want! Why be stingy with a customers request only to be wasteful at the end especially when you're making them wait longer because you're busy which is not my fault. there's no reason I couldn't have gotten the mustard instead of the ketchup because I paid for the mayo. With that being said, I really like this place and the owner is so kind however they need to train their employees better. I'll be back but hopefully it'll be her off day.

Drove 30 minutes one way to try this place as a longtime vegan (10+ years) — sadly, not worth the trip. The food was okay, nothing remarkable. What stood out were the questionable charges and poor customer service. Ordering 4 items, I was hit with a $2 upcharge just for 4 slices of avocado — at a vegan sub spot, that feels nickel-and-dime-y. On top of that, a 20%+ tip was suggested at checkout despite it being a counter-order, to-go experience with zero table service. When I mentioned the drink tasted overly sweet (the cup was completely full — not looking for a remake, just honest feedback), the response from staff was dismissive and unwelcoming. I was genuinely excited to find this place. I'll give other options in the area a shot before making this drive again.
