super cute vegan breakfast cafe! I had the breakfast tacos with just egg and it hit the spot. I need to come back and try the chilaquiles. it was super quick and not very crowded around 10am on a Saturday.

What a special, charming spot! We have been huge fans of KM for years. We used to make the trek all the way from the west LA multiple times per week to get our KM fix. Since moving away 3 years ago this spot remains special to us and is one of the very first places we stop anytime we’re back in town to visit.

Yum! I wanted to try a new place for breakfast and this place did not disappoint. Need to try the savory dishes next time but the snickerdoodle pancakes were delicious

Very small place with amazing tasting lemon blueberry pancakes! And the maple vanilla iced coffee was so delicious! Makes me want to live in LA!😋

I know this place already has many positive reviews, but I simply can't resist adding my own. The food here is some of the best I've ever had in LA – it's so delicious that I couldn't help but lick my plate clean and even contemplated ordering more! A few star items that stood out for me: 1. Chilaquiles - absolutely mind-blowing. You must try them! 2. Gomasio Brown Rice Cakes - not only healthy and filling but bursting with flavors, especially those crispy mushrooms. They are ridiculously good. 3. Breakfast Tacos - if you're a fan of bold flavors, this is a must-order dish. Trust me; you won't regret it. The interior of the place is charming, with old cookie jars lining the walls, creating a cozy and inviting atmosphere. It's the perfect spot for a breakfast date, though keep in mind that it might not be ideal for large parties. They offer a good selection of coffee, tea, elixirs, and more, and the staff is exceptionally friendly and accommodating. Overall, this place is an absolute gem!

Kitchen Mouse is consistently great. They take allergies very seriously and are extremely accommodating, yet all my friends without dietary restrictions love eating here too. Lots of small details make this place great for people with chronic illnesses and food restrictions (almost entirely gluten and dairy free, list allergens, many drinks without caffeine). Plus it feels like a 90’s coffee shop. Charming and tasty. Highly recommend.

Nicest (semi)vegan breakfast I had in a while. I add semi because some dishes include egg. The sauce on the heuvos rancheros was delicious.

M

Food was good, came here for brunch after a friend recommended it. Sad I couldn’t eat any of the pancakes since they were made with oats which I’m allergic to but the nice lady at the counter recommended some other baked goods and even went into the back kitchen to double check the flour mixture didn’t have oats. The s’mores bars weren’t what I came in for but were really good and went well with the breakfast.

Kitchen Mouse is a must try Los Angeles restaurant. Located near the heart of Figueroa St in Highland Park this hip vegetarian/plant based restaurant is a delicious if expensive place to grab a great meal and get some retro vibes. The decor is soooo beyond charming and the coffee is great, which helps because sometimes there’s a wait…and that’s okay because the food is good enough to be patient! Overall I highly recommend Kitchen Mouse and I will be back very soon. Thank, Kitchen Mouse!

My favorite brunch spot in LA! They have something for everyone here. The line out the door on weekends should tell you that this is a special place. I always go for the breakfast tacos with tofu scramble. I'm vegan, but I've taken all my non-vegan out of town visitors here with great success!

N
Ndifereke Wilson

They have amazingly creative vegan and vegetarian options!! One of my fav go to spots!! This time I had the Chilaquiles (vegan)! I loved their healthy spin on a classic Mexican dish!

C
Catherine V. Contreras

Very cute & cozy & TASTY! It does get understandably busy on Sunday mornings (long line out the door, down the block) BUT I had no trouble finding a parking spot (that was just lucky) and was able to get a table no problem (I was there by myself, but there was availability for larger parties too). 👍👍👍👍

D

Almost everything is vegan and really flavorful. Jo's breakfast sandwich and the buffalo bowl are both delish

Kitchen mouse is perfect for those looking for a vegetable based meal. Eggs are optional for vegans that want to avoid them in some of the meals offered such as the chilaquiles dish. The quinoa I had was delicious and tasted like it had sesame oil. It looked like a light meal but I was honestly surprised to find myself asking for a to-go box. Definitely recommend.

Oh Kitchen mouse, I love you so! Was in town visiting family and have never had Gluten Free/Vegan food this wonderful. Had the Chilaqules and bought a box of the strawberry corn muffins. Heaven help me they were/are delicious.

Can't believe I've never been here! Got the tacos which seemed overly pricey at first, but having four of them made it seem like more of a deal. A friend ordered a single pancake, snickerdoodle flavor which made me skeptical but it was delicious! Not too sweet at all. Noise level inside is a little intense. Seems like they could do something to buffer some of that. There's outdoor sidewalk seating with shade which was nice.

A
Agathe Guerrier

Great little local hangout with a big menu of vegan, GF and nut-free options, many inspired by Mexican dishes from tacos to chilaquiles. Expect a bit of a wait at the weekend but it will be worth it! The chai coffee drink is delicious.

C
Chris O'Connor

This an excellent vegetarian breakfast/lunch spot with a lot of gluten free options. One of the places I’ve visited most in LA and miss a lot since moving further toward the west side. It’s hard to go wrong with anything on the menu but the breakfast burrito is one of the better vegetarian burritos I’ve ever had. I would especially recommend anything with the Tempeh Bacon as it’s definitely a worthy addition to any of the main dishes. I’ve tried to recreate at home and haven’t succeeded yet. The style is a cute farmhouse aesthetic meets hipster vibes. Expect a lot of moustaches and overalls from the clientele. Mid range budget wise. Maybe a little pricey for what you get but similar to most other brunch spots in LA. A strong recommend from me and somewhere I will be back to again soo.

M
Martha Rodriguez

Wonderful service, and food is always amazing. I am not vegan but I love their options and the food tastes heavenly. The vegan cookies are to die for, you cannot go to Kitchen Mouse and not have cookies!

The cutest spot for an outdoor breakfast or brunch. We got a vegan friendly version of the chilaquiles. A lovely pairing of flavors and a great amount of food.

V

Very tasty. Light on the arteries. Definitely not for those on a low budget. Had the rice/beans/sweet potato/potato/collard greens bowl with a crisp fried egg. Previously used to have a kale salad (the one I used to have wasn't on the online order menu...may have been pre-2020) which was fire too. It's a nice pick me up when the world is kicking you down!

Went twice in the span of a week that’s how good it is. First picture is the chilaquiles, a side of tofu egg, and their massaged kale + mushrooms salad. Easily the best chilaquiles I’ve ever had. Yummy all around. Salad amazing. Second photo is the caprese sandwich with a watermelon mimosa. The caprese sandwich again has to be one of the yummiest sandwiches I’ve ever had. Different flavors just boom in all of their dishes. What a fantastic restaurant!

J
James Allnutt

The Tofu Scramble is 🤌🏼, so so good. I would highly recommend this as a brunch spot, getting the Tofu Scramble with pancakes and the Tempeh Bacon is a really good choice. Coffee is good too, lots of milk alternatives. Staff wise, all so so polite and welcoming, will be coming back! Edit: Came back and had the snickerdoodle pancake stack - one emoji reaction: 🤤

Great breakfast and lunch menu with vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options. I always get Jo's Breakfast sandwich (with fried eggs, gf avo toast, arugula, Chipotle sauce, and lime/chili oil) and the pine nut cookies which are to die for. They have inside and outside seating options

You may know them as a bright and airy brunch spot but they’re now open for dinner with a totally different and romantic vibe Friday & Saturday 5-9pm with plans to expand to 7 days a week in the summer of 2025. Perfect ambience, service, healthy plant-based food, and drink selection for casual sit-down dinner dates. This is the first time that I have to mention that a restaurant’s filtered tap water tasted great.

Kitchen Mouse is a vegetarian restaurant and it's my new favorite spot! Sometimes it does get crowded cause their food is SO good. The servers are super chill and the ambiance is pretty cool too. Parking is kinda hard though.

L
Lisa Steele l Fresh Eggs Daily

The cute, retro kitschy decor is only the beginning at Kitchen Mouse. Catering to the vegan gluten-free crowd, the breakfast tacos can be made with either egg or tofu. I'm neither, so I chose the egg option and added the optional avocado. It was really good. Fresh corn tortillas filled with scrambled egg, lettuce and greens and drizzled with delicious creamy sauce. I also opted for a strawberry corn muffin that was also delicious. My friend ordered the Sunshine Bowl which had seasonal fruit nestled on top of fresh homemade yogurt and sprinkled with granola. Garnished with chia seeds and an edible flower, she said it was refreshing. She also had a gluten-free chocolate donut that she said was really good. They offer bottomless coffee and free wifi as well. Definitely recommend Kitchen Mouse.

Very good brunch spot, kinda wait a while, but with the food wait. Good vegan options, and their gluten free pancakes are by far the best gluten free pancakes I've tried, other ones taste plain AF.

V

Got the breakfast tacos, added the salsa roja & avocado. The food was fantastic! It's on the pricier side (approximately $15 with the add-ons), but the quality of ingredients is high, and the food is very fresh & flavorful. We got the moros cakes to share, and they were delicious as well. It has a hipster vibe, and the food does not disappoint.

Great place with lots of vegan food! They do have regular eggs if you want that. Staff eat super friendly and there is nice outdoor seating.

J

I feel like this place has gotten better with their food and service over time. The space is now bigger now that they have the outside area and the two neighboring stores. There’s a little attached boutique with lots of cute goodies as well. The breakfast tacos are the bomb! I love these delicious little things. I ate everything! Such a highland park staple and if you’re vegan it would be a sin not to stop by.

So great to eat at a place that’s fully gluten free. I heard that they used to not be fully gluten free, but have made changes to be a gf restaurant which luckily has now made it safe for everyone that gluten intolerant and celiac! Absolutely delicious food. Lots of vegetarian and vegan options. Cute restaurant with indoor and some outdoor seating. Bathrooms for patrons available. Definitely recommend!

I’ve been working in the area (which is very far from my home in LA) and a friend suggested Kitchen Mouse. There’s a huge variety of choices, so I asked Beatrix if she could help me out with keywords “something healthy and filling.” She suggested the Gomasio Brown Rice Cakes which was a bowl that was out of this world. Flavor explosion, kept me full, and was healthy with shishito peppers, mustard greens, and crispy oyster mushrooms with a cilantro and ginger chutney sauce. I’d come back for that dish, and with Beatrix’s amazing service and care. She even checked a binder in case I was allergic to any of the nuts in the dish. Her service was refreshing and so was the food! Come try this place!

I love you Kitchen Mouse, never leave. Great for vegans :) My go-to is the kale and oyster mushroom salad with two mushroom patties as an add-on. It's the best salad ever. It's amazing if you also add avocado but it gets too pricey to add on their avo, so I will add if I have one at home. The vegan breakfast sandwich is incredible too. Love the staff. Love the vibe.

Kitchen Mouse is one of those rare spots that feels like it’s smiling at you the moment you walk in. The soft green and pink décor, the whimsical touches, and the cozy kids’ area all make it feel like stepping into a storybook. The food is fresh, flavorful, and beautifully made , from their baked goods to their fresh breakfast items, lunch and tasty early dinner offerings , everything tastes like care. The staff ,Owen, Clara, Dominic and the whole team , are as warm and sweet as the kitchen itself. They make you feel seen and welcome in that effortless way that can’t be faked. If you’re anywhere near Highland Park, treat yourself to their happy hour from 4 to 6, or stop in any time for something fresh made with love and delicious. Kitchen Mouse is a place that reminds you that food can be both joyful and nourishing , for the body and the heart 🥰 Tiny haiku Poem for Kitchen Mouse little green dream house flour and laughter in the air kindness tastes like this.

Best gluten free pastries in LA! Everything is delicious but the strawberry scone and pistachio cake are my faves. For breakfast I get the morning glory bowl and smashed potatoes. Yum. The tofu scramble is mind-bogglingly delicious. I also don’t know what they do to the brown rice but it feels like I’m eating a dessert coz it’s so chewy, fluidly and perfect.

Today I tried the Chai Oat milk Latte and a pistachio/rose scone. Both were excellent, and I was grateful because this little treat cost almost $15. The Chai is homemade and served in a ceramic cup, which I always appreciate when paying $7. For that price though, it would be nice if it were a couple of ounces bigger. The pistachio/rose scone was pricey ($6.50), but perfectly baked - soft, with subtle flavors. All ingredients taste high quality, which may account for the prices. This is my second visit. On my first trip I had the Caprese on a bagel, which was delicious. There are so many good things on the menu. There's a huge variety of traditional and unique flavored baked goodies (muffins, scones, cookies, bagels & croissants), and the vegan food options are really good (more savory, heartier selections that include bagels, sandwiches, toast and a soup of the day). I think I'll be taking the 3-Bean Italian soup to go and will update on that later. 🥣

Fave brunch spot now that we are plant based. Love the chilaquiles and the smashed potatoes! The fresh juices and the matcha lattes are exquisite. Adorable spot in Highland Park, fast service and really good food. There’s plenty of seating and no wait on a Sunday morning. I recommend the Breakfast Sandwich, and the Moros Cakes are pretty good too. If you’re feelin’ squirrelly their Chocolate Chip cookies are delicious! Tried their Chai Latte and wasn’t disappointed. Very smooth and not too sweet; well balanced. Definitely coming back here to try more of their menu.

Cute spot for brunch with adorable decor and super friendly staff! I tried the breakfast tacos and my friend had the chilaquiles and both were delicious. We even got some corn bread for free! They have a section in the back for kids to play and a little store attached where you can buy candles and notebooks and such. Everything is vegetarian and I believe you can make all meals vegan.

The menu is perfect. Just the right amount of options, and the servings are generous with fantastic flavor, texture, and freshness. There is really nothing negative that can be said about this relaxed but presentable little spot, other than my opinion that the complimentary muffins could be scaled up in size or quantity.

Kitchen Mouse is a vegetarian restaurant on 59th avenue and Fig. Atmosphere is welcoming and relaxing. Interior decor resembles your own kitchen house with accented lights and classic dinner tables/chairs. Similarly, it is well organized, neat and lots of natural light. Outdoor seats are available albeit very limited. Prices are a bit on the high end for HP neighborhood. They accept cash and credit/debit card. Staff are friendly and professional. On a busy day, service can be slow and long lines. You need to order first before you take a table. We ordered their three stacks House Pancakes, made of oat, buckwheat, and corn flour with blue berries/strawberries, toasted coconut and maple syrup; and two scrambled eggs. Pancakes were flavorful and fluffy and thick; the eggs are perfectly cooked and their coffee was just good. Overall, if you like veggie breakfast KM is the place to be.

Dine in | $20–30 We had the breakfast sandwich with fennel sausage, jackfruit tacos and breakfast tacos - each with their homemade tofu scramble - the jackfruit was incredible, scramble the best I’ve ever had, the tortillas were amazing and the veggies fresh! That said, service was kind when we spoke with any staff member but we had to clean the table we wanted to sit at, our meal was missing an add-on item we paid for and the service after paying was pretty nonexistent. Go for the food and enjoy it for takeout and you’ll be so happy as the food is amazing!

Good vegan and vegetarian breakfast options. Loved that you could sub out eggs for avocado or tofu scramble on most dishes. Yummy vegan treats, non-caffeinated hot beverages in addition to coffee, vegan cheese, the works! The “crab” benedict and the tofu scramble were amazing. My only complaint is that the serving sizes were quite small and it was pretty crowded. I’d avoid coming here during prime time because there was a long line.

First time coming here. Just wanted a cute vegan spot for coffee with some food. They had so many options it was hard to choose. I ended up ordering something extra to go. Everything was so good. I had the breakfast sandwich, dirty chai latte, jackfruit tacos and a tart with apples and almonds. It’s bittersweet that I live in South LA otherwise I’d be here every week. 😅

I stopped by in the evening since I was in the area after a meeting and I'd been wanting to check this place out for a while. They have a different menu for dinner, and while I was a little bummed (because their breakfast/brunch menu looks great), I was still looking forward to my meal. I was seated at a corner table near the entrance of the establishment. There are two seating areas and I was a little surprised/confused that I wasn't seated in the area where other patrons were eating. In my experience, restaurants typically seat people together so that servers only have to tend to one area. Maybe they thought I wanted to be alone? Maybe they thought I didn't want the distraction? Either way, I just looked out the window and people/dog watched. I ordered the Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice and the Psychedelic Daalipop. That tuna was absolutely spectacular! It had a great flavor and I loved the pickled ginger on top (which was a nice surprise because it wasn't listed in menu ingredients). I'd definitely get it again when I want to splurge.... it was a little on the pricy side at $14 for 2 cakes. The Daalipop was super tasty as well. I loved the variety of flavors and textures in this dish. Overall, I spent $35 (on two dishes and no beverage, not including tip). It's a nice vegan place to visit with fresh, clean ingredients that you can taste, which contributes to the higher price point.

Came in today at ~2pm. Waited in line to order for about 25 minutes (there were maybe 6 people ahead of us??) Ordered. Sat down. Waited about 35 minutes for our food. Restaurant was empty by this time. We paid for an hour for the parking meter. By the time we were done eating, our meter had expired. Food was def good but maybe overhyped???

I love the ambience and vibe of the place. It's very healthy and I found it to be a tad unsatisfying. I ordered the chilaquiles and the sauce was really tasty but everything on the plate felt random. I also had a side of snickerdoodle pancake and it was such a healthy pancake that it shouldn't be associated with snickerdoodle. They gave us a taste of a corn muffins with a spicy jam and the spicy jam amazing but the corn muffin was somewhat underwhelming. I'd go back to have a coffee and an egg dish and enjoy the bustle.

I normally love Kitchen Mouse, but recently ordered two sides of potatoes ($4 each) with my order. When I got the order, it was a hilariously small amount of potatoes. I don’t think it would have amounted to one potato for both of the orders. But I’d spent $8. It was slightly ridiculous. Luckily the breakfast sandwich was super good!

I tried a myriad of dishes and beverages… while the quality is good, and while if on a restrictive diet this would open a lot of culinary options; ultimately, the menu fails to provide any novelty, nor does it make up for this in flavor or craftsmanship. There is no service, so while there is plenty of seating available, it’s the case that you must wait in a line (I went on a Sunday) for around 25 minutes just to place your order, so you can take a seat. The music selection was great, the coffee was well brewed, the huevos rancheros stood apart from the rest. The price is what you would expect for a chiefly vegan restaurant in Highland Park, that is to say above average. Assuming you are like me, a consciousness, albeit omnivorous, creature, this restaurant will disappoint you.

As a Mexican American, chilaquiles are one of my absolute favorite dishes! The chilaquiles here are definitely… unique, very interesting flavor! However, to add an extra double shot in my iced latte — it was $1.75 for each shot.. that is kind of insane… too expensive for me overall, cute decor tho!

I’ve been coming to kitchen mouse for years. I didn’t mind the prices because the food was good, but today was it for me. I placed an order online for a build your own bowl, when it arrived, I was shocked at how much it was for what I got! Kitchen mouse has slowly gotten worse when it comes to portions. A few years back, the price reflected the quantity, but now it’s LAUGHABLE at what they think a good size bowl is. This just goes to show you that places like this move into neighborhoods, and slowly price out long time residents on a night out, to cater to other new comers who aren’t a part of the fabric of the neighborhood, would you eat here for a 30 dollar price tag for scraps? For the cost of a cookie, I’d rather go down the way to Amara Kitchen. We all work hard for our money, and todays the last time I ever order from Kitchen Mouse. They use to give you three Moros cakes for each bowl, now just two, the yams I ordered, looked like half a serving, I had to specifically ask for sauces to be full because there’s been many times they aren’t, if I’m paying those prices, I want my full meal. Overpriced/hipster place, that epitomizes what’s wrong with Highland Park, and why most of the longtime residents here eat elsewhere, I’ll be among them. The double chocolate cookies I received weren’t good either.

The prices have gone up and now house favorites are half the portion and charging extra for what use to already come in it. The staff is so nice and it's such a great place but to make the portion smaller and up charge $3+ and then charge more to add on ingredients that use to already be in it feels wrong. I understand food cost has gone up but it would be better to raise the prices and keep it as is or if it isn't cost efficient just take it off your menu. Look at the portion difference from March to July and now you have to pay extra for the sausage in the sandwich.
