Opinions de Chao Krung Thai Los Angeles
What we love about Los Angeles is summed up here at Chao Krung. When I crossed the threshold of the restaurant, I felt like I was having an authentic Thai experience. The decorum - inviting and the food... when you close your eyes to savor the food, you know you'll be coming back to work the menu over again and again. I thought Same Same was the best Thia food in L.A., but Chao Kung adds a sophistication I didn't know I was missing. Gotta love L.A. for its authentic international cuisines and this place is now my must-go-to for date night and carry out.
Chao Krung has been around for over 50 years and has been family owned for that long. The food is some of the best Thai I've had. I have friends of mine who have been in the restaurant business for over 50 years themselves, and the just love the food here. I've eaten here many times, and it's always great.
First time visit. I ordered Thai tea. We had thai beef salad(deliciously spicy), red curry(wonderful notes of Thai basil and coconut)with chicken, eggplant dish, & finished or meal with mango sticky rice. I can't tell you which dish was best because each one had excellent flavors, but if I had to choose it would be the red curry. Great service. Our waitress even helped us decide on the eggplant. Perfect choice. Will definitely go back again.
Chao Krung is hands down one of my top 10 Thai restaurants, in West Hollywood. Los Angeles basically, I love how authentic but cool and really true to themselves they are. All the flavors are there it’s really like good home cooking but slightly elevated! Staff is always friendly and majority is all Thai! Which as a Thai person I love to see that! Parking is typical street parking not hard to park but it would be on a street on Fairfax. Inside is cozy and it’s like your at a elevated resort. Lunch time is good, they have specials and dinner time is also delicious as well! I honestly just recommend everything and also really great for groups as well.
⚠️ Your Thai food search ends NOW! ⚠️ Coming to LA for visits so many times for 8 years now (I practically know the place like a local) I finally found North America’s beast Thai Food Restaurant!! My wife and I always drove for about 1 hour to go all the way to Malibu to have Thai food at another restaurant. But since 2020 it just hasn’t been the same. We lost all hope of finding a good, delicious Thai food joint until I found this Hidden Gem 💎 Trust me… Once you take the first bite: Your 🧠: “I’m in Thailand 🇹🇭 “ And your 🫀: *attached* Look at the picture of Gra Pow Lad Kai dish. I forgot to take a picture of how it looks like at the start because I couldn’t wait to try the next dish!! You cannot regret eating here ❤️❤️
Really high quality food, lovely service, and wonderful ambiance. Soups, noodle dishes, and some side dishes can be made without fish or oyster sauce. Curries are premade and cannot be made vegan, sadly, but the deserts are plant-based (and fantastic - so much so I forgot to take pictures of them!). Parking is tricky before 7pm as most meters on/off Fairfax are one hour, but more options can be found further away if you're willing to walk.
We love Chao Krung and the entire family! We are so thankful they share their family recipes with us and all of Los Angeles. We always get the Tom Kha soup and the pork belly is soooo good. This time we tried the eggplant basil and it was the perfect touch of spice. My father in law ordered both duck dishes and said they were the best he had ever tasted. Each server gave us so much attention and were kind and efficient. Thank you!
Tons of flavor. Tofu was cooked to perfection. Chicken skewers were divine. Service was so so so good. The servers were kind, welcoming, and very attentive.
Wow, this place is incredible. Every dish had so much care put into it. It was incredibly tasty! While it has the usual hits you'd find in most American Thai restaurants, there's also a lot of authentic dishes I'd recommend branching out to try! I really loved the Khao Soi with pork belly. Not to mention the ambiance was lovely. Will definitely be back.
Recently dined at Chao Krung Thai and was thoroughly impressed by the exceptional service. Our server, Menza, was incredibly attentive, knowledgeable about the menu, and made fantastic recommendations for wine and appetizer pairings. He truly ensured our dining experience was enjoyable from start to finish. The food was delicious as well, especially the crab curry and garlic chicken wings, but the outstanding service truly made the night. Highly recommend Chao Krung Thai!
Amazing service and super friendly. Food was Authentic and delicious coming from someone born in Thailand.
Ordered to go since I was in a hurry to get back to the westside. Someone greeted me right away and took my order. I ordered the pad thai with tofu, spicy. Beautiful presentation for something to go. There was a chili sauce packed up inside, as well as extra napkins and plasticware. Authentic, tasty and the perfect portion. I'll definitely be back to try some different dishes. The inside was very clean as well.
Found this place wandering around the area and it ended up being spectacular. Green curry had great lemongrass flavour, and they were not stingy on the meat. Had the most charismatic server too!
I recently dined at Chao Krung Thai and was thoroughly impressed by both the food and the service. We ordered the fried chicken, chicken green curry, shrimp pad Thai, and green papaya salad. Each dish was beautifully presented and packed with flavor. While I personally prefer lighter tastes, and found some dishes a bit on the salty and sweet side, I believe most people would find the flavors delightful. The ambiance of the restaurant is cozy and inviting, with modern and stylish decor that adds to the dining experience. Our server was exceptionally kind and attentive, even preparing a to-go box for us without hesitation. I truly appreciate the thoughtful accommodation provided by the staff. Overall, Chao Krung Thai offers a wonderful dining experience with delicious food, generous portions, and outstanding service. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for authentic Thai cuisine in a warm and welcoming setting.
Good good, great atmosphere. Sea Bass was great altho price was not in the menu. Ended up paying $60. Not sure if it was worth that much.
Came here on a Saturday at 1pm when they opened. Was one of the first customers and had my seating of choice. Service was prompt and polite. I dined in as well as ordered take out. Their lunch meal set are great! Lots of selections to choose from (rice, noodles, curry, soups). Size is nicely portioned. All the food was tasty, nicely flavored, and fresh tasting. If I'm back in the Beverly Center area, I will definitely stop in again.
One of the good thai restaurants in LA. Loved their mussels and esan sausage. Crispy pork basil with rice tasted close to authentic. The lady who helped us out was nice and friendly.
Everything that came out was really well prepared. They’ve taken some traditional dishes and tempered them so they are more pure in flavor and nothing seems overpowering. The produce that goes into these dishes seems like they have been carefully selected and I have dinned at many Thai restaurants around the world. I would say this is one of the best Thai food experiences I’ve had in L.A if not the best. Great place to share a bunch of different plates as they are all medium to large in portions. The atmosphere is okay, but not the most comfortable seating, a few cushions on the wooden benches and chairs would add a lot. The fact that it’s bare surfaces all around, makes it a little bit colder in the atmosphere even though it does have somewhat cozy vibe. Pricing very reasonable for the quality of food you get. Toilets are small so larger people will feel cramped and wheel chairs will not fit.
This is the best Thai restaurant in Los Angeles. I live walking distance to Anajak, it’s great, been many times. Second date with my wife was Night+Market, great, been many many times. Jitlada, I’m with Jonathan Gold, great, been many times. My recent restaurant reviews cover a lot of ground on a trip to Bangkok+, which doesn’t matter for someone looking in Los Angeles, but suffice to say that sets a new bar in LA. I always focus on the food, but in this case I focused on relative comparisons because I’m just shocked this destination doesn’t roll off the tongue of food concerned Angelenos. Excellent, authentic, atmospheric… this really is a special spot.
We had their shrimp pad Thai, Penang curry pork , and pineapple shrimp fried rice. Everything was very good. Serving was big.
Absolutely delicious and authentic Thai food! The Tom Kha was spectacular, the green curry and Pad Thai very good, the Thai tea excellent and the mango sticky rice divine. The best I’ve had so far in LA. Staff seemed a bit grumpy, but still nice. Lovely decoration too.
I was most shocked by the low rating of this restaurant given that the food is fantastic! We ordered the eggplant basil and glass noodle salad without celery, and both were an explosion of flavour. The food tasted authentic here, and it left me wanting more. I would 10/10 be down to return and try more dishes. The service was decent. It took a bit to get the waiter's attention so that we could place our order but nothing unreasonable, and everyone was nice and accommodating. The aesthetic of this place is stunning! The decor is ornate with lovely colours and designs, and the tableware and serving dishes complete the look. By far this is one of the most aesthetic Thai establishments I have visited in California.

Chao Krung has been a family favorite for many years now but we recently realized it had been far too long since we visited. We walked in on a weekday for an early dinner and we were blown away, once again. There were tables available at the time we arrived but it quickly filled up so reservations are recommended. The fried papaya salad with salmon roe special was incredible. The fish cakes with fried basil, pad Thai, and mango sticky rice, our long time favorites & frequently ordered at Chao Krung, we’re just as good as ever- if not better than I remembered. We’ll be back soon!
We stopped here for a late lunch and this was definitely the highlight of our LA trip. This is a mom and pop shop and serve more traditional style Thai dishes that we haven't seen elsewhere. The decor features family pictures which are super sweet and cozy lights. I got the gra pao rad khao with tofu and the whole dish is an umami bomb packed with flavor and textures. There's a nice heat from the chiles but it's not overwhelming and the green beans add a nice crunch.
We have been going to this place for a couple of decades, from it's former hidden atmosphere to the now open view. I did like the former better, but the food!! Oh that flavor is a toe curler. It is a very favoured spot to eat that luscious food. Long Live Chao Krung!
Such an underrated Thai spot, especially for dine-in! The food is so flavorful and delicious, the portions are generous, and the staff and vibe are inviting. While you can’t go wrong with takeout from here, be sure to check it out in person! They serve wine and beer.

Service was great. The ambiance is great. Good music and it’s nice to see their family pictures. We asked for chicken and tofu pad Thai and didn’t receive chicken. Also the menu (Grubhub there are no tangible menus) doesn’t match prices on receipt. $7.50 for a bottle sparking water is wild. The pad thai noodles were great though. They have a bar there as well so this would be a cute date place. Wish there were more fried options I only saw 2 or 3.
Food was good. We were celebrating a birthday party of 7. The menu did not offer much option as far as shareable portions were concerned.
Good food and good service! They were even nice when my niece screamed at the top of her lungs until her mom took her out of the restaurant until she calmed down. I liked the portions and the flavors! The leftovers were really delicious the next day from my doggy bag! I will go again next time I'm in LA!!
Fantastically authentic Thai, where the spices aren't just 'spicy' but obviously essential to the unique qualities of the dish. We had the 'jerky style' beef for an appy and the eggplant and shrimp dish (forgot all the thai names and to take a snapshot of the menu, boo), but am adding pictures. Highly recommend in this area, if you are not into the typical tourist who is looking for 'not spicy' versions of pad thai and the like. A real foodie find.
The food was good but I do think it's a bit overpriced especially when you have other Thai restaurants in the area that charge less. However, the atmosphere is nice, I can see this place being the go to place for people to go on dates and such. I ordered to go. The pad Thai was really good. The Khao Soi was excellent..I didn't really care for the chicken black pepper. All in all, good food.
The fusion of Thailand and America fits well in the interior. It's modern and neat. There is weekly special menu so you should check out. The food was a little salty overall, so I had to keep drinking water. The staff is very kind. I plan to come back.

I was expecting a more wow factor on authenticity. As I tried to bring my aunt and uncle to a place that brought them comfort and familiarity. The squid appetizer came room temp but it did have char nonetheless room temp squid. We also ordered crispy pork and Chinese broccoli and the veggies were really good. Huge miss on the pork. It taste dry on the flesh part and was crispy but not in the way that crispy pork should be , you would bite into it and it wouldn’t break or fall apart, really chewy. We got the pad Thai with shrimp and that was the best thing. It was good but a bit sweet and very light peanut on side. The sticky rice and mango was good. It’s good for a thai spot but not James beard quality in my opinion. You go to places in New York like this like uncle boons for example and it’s just incomparable. This was ok Thai food, really good for white people thai food. 🤷🏽♀️
We ordered grilled chicken and Tom Yum HotPot. The grilled chicken is claimed to be their specialty. However, we failed to see anything special about it. The chicken tastes dry and under-seasoned. The meat feels warm and does not feel like it came right off of the grill. The mediocre sweet dipping sauce it came with does not help much either. The $35 Tom Yum Hotpot is a disappointment too. The seafood portion is small. Probably a bigger issue is that the heating wax for the hotpot is too small to heat up the soup. So the soup is cold before the grilled chicken arrived.
This place is horrible. To start we ordered the Tam Kia "Coconut Soup" which tasted like coconut milk simmered with Warhead Sour Candies. It was incredibly sour. After receiving the soup, we had to wait 20 minutes for our entrees to come out (there was only 2 other tables occupied at the time). The Pad See Ew came with huge uncut Chinese broccoli pieces. The beef in the Pad Gra Tiem (Garlic and Black Pepper) was so tough to eat. We ordered draft beer but it came in glass bottles instead. This restaurant charges $9 dollars for a 12 oz bottled beer. For 2 people the total came out to $85 dollars, daylight robbery. I will never come here again or recommend this place to anybody.
*for delivery orders* First time trying this restaurant for delivery, it was recommended to me on UberEats. I actually laughed when I pulled out the pad see ew container. I have never seen such small portions for a Thai restaurant. My attached picture doesn’t have anything next to it for scale but think of it as the size of a side order. It was ok as far as flavor but not worth the price. I also ordered wings and they were really really dry with little to no meat. My order total was $45 for both. I’m ok with paying higher prices for good food and ok portions but this was a big let down all around.
There is a young bartender here who greets guests with an extremely arrogant attitude. The cocktails he makes are far from good, and it’s clear that he needs significant training — not only in mixology but also in personal character and hospitality. Unfortunately, there’s no real taste in his drinks and absolutely no sense of welcoming or guest service. I would strongly suggest that future visitors think twice before coming here.

I’ve been going to Chao Krung for a couple of years now. The food is good and the location is convenient for me. I recently decided to download their app to avoid using that other big delivery app, which I thought was a good move as it would save both me and the restaurant money, and I don’t mind going there to pick up the food since it’s relatively close. Big mistake. Last night I used the CK app to order food, including a salad with grilled beef. After picking up the order and returning home, I realized while plating that they had given me pork on the salad, which I don’t eat. Bummer, given that I had spent the time to pick it up, and knowing that they don’t make food fast, so a replacement was nowhere in the near future. I called the restaurant to let them know, and instead of an apology or offer to fix the order, was met with insistence that they do not offer beef on the salad. I doubled checked my order and confirmed that beef had indeed been selected. I was put on hold for a few minutes until the manager picked up the phone, and without asking me anything, again simply insisted that beef was not an option. I drove back to the restaurant with the salad and my phone, which clearly showed the order history, including the salad with beef. Despite being shown the order history *on their own app* which confirmed that the salad was supposed to have beef, I was again met with insistence that they don’t make that salad with beef! If you’ve seen the “computer says no” skit on Little Britain, then you can imagine how this back and forth went for about ten minutes. The manager (Men) was hostile and dismissive the entire time, insisting that I had somehow made a mistake using their app (?) Eventually, he begrudgingly agreed to give me a refund, which took another ten minutes. At no point was there any indication that they had accepted any responsibility for their mistake, and all that I got served was a really bad attitude. I looked at their app this morning, and they have now removed that salad option, presumably to fix their mistake in the app. I guess it would have just been easier to use the big delivery app, where I could have simply clicked on the “wrong item delivered” option and gotten a refund. It’s a bummer because I do like the food there, but LA has lots of great Thai food, so I’m definitely not willing to put up with the terrible service just for the convenience of it being close by.
