Never knew this place existed until I looked it up on my phone known for their Italian sandwiches. It's been in business for 52 years. Highly recommend 👍👍👍
Let me telll you the best freaking pastrami sub I’ve ever had and I hate sub sandwiches cause I can never find a good one. But de Franco has my heart it’s been 3 days and I want another so baddd. Plus the owner is the sweetest most amazing person ever!!! Can’t wait to go back and get more!
Benn coming here for 35+ years. Might not be for all but always consistent and one of the best sandwhich places in the Valley. Can't go wrong with the hot pastrami and cheese.
Ridiculously small shop, but delivers big taste. Fantastic sandwiches and fast and kind service. Support your local eatery.
Very chill, "hole-in-the-wall" sub place. Tiny; most seating is outside. Sandwiches are PACKED with all the trimmings on awesome sesame bread. Well worth a stop, and very near most fbos at Van Nuys Airport. Friendly people too.
It was my wife's and my first time coming here, and it is by far the best pastrami sub in the valley!! The employees are nice and attentive, the gentleman who was making our sandwiches made them perfect!! I would also recommend the potato salad...it was delicious!
Great tuna sandwich, not too heavy on the mayo which I prefer. Seating is tight inside so I always go for takeout. In and out in less than 10 minutes when it’s not busy. If you’re ordering a hot sandwich the wait is a bit longer sometimes.
That pastrami sandwich was honestly one of the best I’ve ever had yummy, full of flavor, and the bread was just right. The service was amazing too, super friendly and attentive, which made the whole experience even better. Definitely a spot I’ll be coming back to! Thank you!!
I got the steak pepper one and my friend got the tuna salad sandwich. We both really enjoyed our food and neither of us could finish the whole thing + saved it for later. The lady inside was working hard and very quickly. I originally read about this place from an article I read online and I knew I had to try it so was very glad when I finally got the chance to visit. The lady made warm eye contact while turning around and giving me my sandwich; thank you for the great service.
Good fresh loaded with goodness hot pastrami sandwich. We ended up splitting a large, so that tells you how good the portions are. The place is a small old school shack with character. We were there at a bit of an off hour but it seemed like there’s plenty of outdoor seating and tables. I’d definitely eat here again.
Great sandwiches. I've had the privilege to eat here since 1985. I am not guilty, to say that this is by far the best submarine sandwiches in the world. First of all let's start off by the fact that this place is owned privately. And it's not a franchise. For more than 30 years this place has been here as far as I can remember at least. I'm pretty sure he's been here a lot longer than that. Now, the sandwiches are to die for. I especially love the pastrami yes yes. Which basically means pastrami with cheese and mustard. In the way they cut up the onion the Tomato the pickle and the pepper sprinkled on top. And the oil they use, oh my goodness is like submarine sandwich Paradise. But they also have tuna, roast beef, turkey breast. Not to mention the salads they serve. Those are very delicious. Keep in mind, that everything is made from scratch. Everything is fresh as can be. I definitely recommend for anyone visiting the Los Angeles area to take your time and come by and try out this superbly served sandwiches. Thank you so much for being in business for so many years. Your public simply adores you. I really do hope that you're here for many generations to come. God bless you, and God bless your business.
I used to come here all the time in 1991. Its been a bit but found myself in the area and had to stop by. Same tiny shop. Same owner. Same menu, but with current prices. I had the pepper beef and a drink. I had forgotten that it was on a deliciously soft Italian roll. The pepper beef was flavorful. My only grip is that the beef wasn't hot all the way through. There were areas of cold meat. Nonetheless, I still enjoyed it. I need to cone back and revisit the classic cold cut sub.
DeFranko’s is an OG sandwich stop in the valley. They have been around for over 50 years. It’s a little hole in the wall stop with no indoor dining but they have a few tables and chairs outside with a very small parking lot. The service was just okay. They definitely get a lot of orders in person and over the phone. There was a line out the door. I recommend calling ahead because they do get busy! I got the Italian sub for my parents who were in town and a chicken salad for me. The chicken salad was just okay. After reading more reviews, I wish I had gone with the pastrami because that one seems most popular. My parents enjoyed their sandwich but wish it had more meet inside. I will definitely come back again by calling in and trying something new.
If you like mom and pop shop vibes, this is the place. I got the recommended Pastrami, which was good. A lot of pickles and tomatoes which, depending on what your preferences are, make or break a sub. Compared to Captain's Sub Shop just a few blocks away, I'd say this is more of a "traditional" sandwich shop. Just serving classic subs you'd expect from one's you'd find on the East Coast.
Got a large pastrami with cheese and all the fixings. Good amount of chopped onions, pickles and tomatoes. Was about $17, cheese is extra. Only knock is the bread, as I think it’s too thick. Wait wasn’t long. Ordering is a bit odd as the front is closed and you have to place your order in the back. Pricey but Delicious!!!
This place does subs different, not the best in town. Lots of veg and dry spices, not much meat. Sandwich served with a spoon. Overall tasted good. Service is average or below average, stood there for 1-2 mins while the staff chatted before anyone acknowledged me.
A bit pricey, and the food was decent, but not great. I ordered a pepper steak sand which: My sandwich was practically all pickle and was a dry. There was almost no meat in it, it was practically a pickle sandwich, and the actual steak didn’t have much pepper in it I was trying to find the pieces. The cheese was an additional $2. My coworkers also ordered and got a cold cut trio and the second ordered a turkey sandwich. They weren’t exactly happy or raving about the food. They both said the bread was a bit dry, because they don’t add any condiments to the bread or juice from the protein. The sandwiches are loaded with onions. We all agreed that it was pricey and the sandwiches were decent not great.
I have to say, I had higher hopes for this place. It had great potential to be a really excellent sub. However, what I experienced was dry, somewhat stale bread, a person making my sandwich with no gloves and appeared very frantic, and an overall mid experience. I wish it was better, but it’s just the unfortunate reality that I wouldn’t come here again.
Over-rated place. Plus the Dude taking the orders is rude. $20 for a small sandwich is crazy work.
