Opinions de Kendall's Brasserie Los Angeles
Service was adequate mostly, but we had to requests the same items a few times. The food was excellent. Braised beef rib was tender, juicy, and perfectly seasoned; accompanied by mashed potatoes and two kinds of vegetables. We ordered the pear tart, which was delicious.
Great newly remodeled restaurant. The price is high but it’s nice quality. The service was quick and they really understand the importance of delivering the food quick as the majority of the visitors are on their way to the theatre. I got the octopus salad and ratatouille with the chocolate mousse for dessert and was very pleased with everything!
We were there to attend a rehearsal dinner for my cousin's wedding. The service and atmosphere were awesome. The staff made sure everyone was attended to. They made their round with appetizers and made sure we had drinks at all times. There was never a time where we had to hunt the staff to order a drink. I think the popular drink at my table was the lavender lemon drop martini. It was delicious! The food was also excellent. I ordered the Beef Short Rib Bourguignon. Very flavorful and tender. If I lived in California I would definitely come back.
We had all the sides. The Brussels sprouts are so great. Everything else was delicious too. I had linguini with clams and mussels. Yum! Yum! Yum! We had a good waiter and nice table. Also it is right next door to the music center. Great spot! Will absolutely visit again.
I enjoy coming here for happy hour after work. Their garlic fries (fried in duck fat) are quite addicting! Their bar staff always treats us well and I love that working at the Music Center gets me an employee discount. If you come for dinner, I recommend making reservations. There is usually a rush between 6p&8p due to theatre goers. Sometimes they are closed due to private events so call ahead!
Love this place and have for years. Their duck confit (currently on the menu in Dec '24) is absolutely fantastic and worth a stop even if you're not seeing a show. And the service is always so fast and friendly!
I had the pleasure of dining at Kendall's Brasserie recently, and I must say it was an outstanding experience that exceeded all my expectations. From the moment I stepped into the restaurant, I was captivated by the elegant and sophisticated ambiance that permeated the space. The decor, lighting, and comfortable seating created a warm and inviting atmosphere, perfect for a memorable dining experience. The menu at Kendall's Brasserie is a culinary masterpiece. The selection of French dishes is extensive, and each one is prepared with meticulous attention to detail and the finest ingredients. From the appetizers to the main courses and desserts, every dish was a delightful blend of flavors and textures that delighted my taste buds. It was evident that the chefs take great pride in their craft, as each dish was presented beautifully and tasted absolutely divine. The service at Kendall's Brasserie was exceptional. The staff members were attentive, friendly, and well-versed in the menu. They provided excellent recommendations and made sure that every aspect of our dining experience was taken care of. The attention to detail and personalized service truly made us feel like valued guests. One thing that stood out to me was the extensive wine list. Kendall's Brasserie offers an impressive selection of wines from different regions, allowing us to find the perfect pairing for our meal. The sommelier was knowledgeable and helped us navigate through the options, enhancing our dining experience even further. Overall, I can confidently say that Kendall's Brasserie is a hidden gem in the culinary scene. The combination of exquisite cuisine, impeccable service, and elegant ambiance creates a dining experience that is second to none. Whether you're celebrating a special occasion or simply looking for a remarkable dining experience, I highly recommend Kendall's Brasserie. Prepare yourself for an unforgettable journey into the world of French cuisine that will leave you with cherished memories.
Yumm! It’s definitely a little spendy but worth it! I wasn’t too hungry so I got a caesar and brussel sprouts and they were very good. The wine selection was nice and my friend got the chicken and a cocktail which was nice. They were very fast and we got to our show in plenty of time.
One of those wonderful places where you never get a bad meal. Always packed but they always fit you in...excellent service to top off excellent food! Great downtown location! Near everything...even theater. Patio el fresco dinning is an option. The inside set-up rivals anything you might find in Europe. It's beautiful! They have a huge full service bar and all the amenities of a world-class establishment. On my top 10 best restaurants list! With pleasure!

Scrumptious foods, a variety delicacies abound. The salads do not disappoint. Had the Nicoisse and their take with the butter lettuce and plethora of olives was fine! I enjoyed the Croque Madame, quite unctuous with the pomme frites. Tne atmosphere is comfortable, and Chris from the staff makes everyone feel like an old friend. Spacious dining and courteous staff all around! If you are celebrating your birthday they'll be happy to accommodate your palate with a special something.
Amazing spot! Perfect restaurant for home sick French people living in LA (like me) who are looking for traditional delicious French food like at home. The location is great, the service is very nice and fast but careful, the welcome is warm and friendly! Perfect place for a great dinner before or after a show at the music center or a day in Downtown LA
The restaurant is the ideal venue to have a nice meal before an opera. It's located down the stairs from the Dorothy Chandler Pavillion. We, a group of four, ate there on opening night for Don Giovanni. While we had an hour to eat before showtime, the staff expedited our order and we were able to eat without feeling rushed. While we ddnt have dessert we could've had that too if we had wanted to. My hubby and I are vegetarian, so we had the tasty pasta with vegetables dish (can't remember the name). The portions were very generous, so we only ate half. Next time we'll split the dish and add a salad. The vegetables and pasta were cooked perfectly al dente. Our friends had the short braised ribs, and they enjoyed it as well. We shared the Brussel sprouts appetizer which was also well seasoned and balanced with cheese crumbles. Unfortunately, we thought we wouldn't have enough time to eat so we didn't take pictures of the food.
Kendall's is the best place to go after work in Downtown LA for Happy Hour or just to hang with friends. It is also a great bar for anyone going to a show at the Music Center. Having dinner there is the best. They start serving dinner right at 5 so you can easily make it to your performance at the Music Center. The staff knows curtain time and will make sure you have plenty of time to get where you are going. If you are not going to a show it is one of the best places for fine dinning in Downtown LA. The menu is not huge, but everything on it is perfect. We have been a few times now and are working our way though the menu as well as the starters. The staff is great and so very professional. They will take super good care of you. They check on you often and they know the menu well. This latest time we tried their chicken dish which was amazing. It is a chicken breast, large, with crispy skin. Under that is fingerling potatoes, tomatoes and other great things, all in an amazing broth. We had to have their mussels, shrimp and other seafood in a rich broth again. It is my grandson's favorite and boy do you get a lot of seafood. They just introduced a new Caesar salad, which might not sound like much, but it is truly the best Caesar salad I have ever had. It has this dressing that is just amazing and the Romine is so fresh and crisp. It also has kale on it, which my grandson took great care to remove--but he sure loved the rest of it as did I. It also has some anti pasto meats. We tried their nuts for the first time. They come baked and in a little bowl with seasoning on them and they are fantastic. I never though I would order that as a starter, but it will now be ordered by us whenever we go. Their truffle fries are great and we love their coffee. Get their bread as well. It is worth it. Their desserts are great, the best being their chocolate pot, which is so tasty. You will love this place.
Lovely French style brasserie that's perfect if you're catching a show at the Music Center, Dorothy Chandler or Mark Taper Forum.

Kendall's Brasserie is located on the street level of the Music Center on Grand Ave. We had about an hour before we needed to find out seats at the Ahmason. This restaurant was very conveniently located. We had drinks and appetizers. My aperol spritz was good. His Maestro Palmer was delicious and notable - wow! We also had the roasted mushrooms and baguette. The mushrooms were so meaty and went well with the herb butter sauce.

Finding a place to dine before a show at the Music Center (Ahmanson, Mark Taper, Dorothy Chandler) may seem difficult but there are a lot of great options close by. One of my favorites for a light snack is Kendall's. Located in the bottom of the Music Center complex it is steps away from all the theaters. Whether you want to make a reservation and sit at a table or just stop by the bar for a nibble and a drink this place has got you covered. I like Kendall's charcuterie board with the toasted buttery baguette. Don't worry they will give you more bread if you ask. At $27 it a great to share and a perfect way to kick off, or end, your night. Small plates and salads run $15-$20 and entrees $30-$40. Should you choose to venture to Kendall's post-show, which I highly recommend, do visit The Boardroom for a special speakeasy-like treat.
Kendall’s Brasserie on Grand is a fine establishment. On the expensive side but has some fine dining lunch options during the weekdays. Near the Walt Disney concert hall. If you are walking around downtown this should be a good stop if you want to enjoy a fine establishment. They usually have a two-course lunch menu for roughly $25. But the options are worth it and it is a nice break while walking around down town. Tip. Try their fresh lemonade of the day. You can never go wrong with that. Afterwards you can walk down grand park up to city hall or walk back to the Walt Disney concert hall. Again this place would be an option from the grand central market that offers an eclectic variety and step into the world of the upper class feel like you are ready to see a beautiful concert afterwards. Enjoy.
This restaurant is very convenient when attending a performance at the Music Center. My wife and I had an early dinner. Since I'm vegetarian, the menu was somewhat limited, but I got the winter squash risotto and my wife got the tagliatelle. We also got a side of Brussels sprouts. The food was good but not memorable. My wife had to send her dish back because it wasn't hot, and they were kind enough to give her an entirely new dish. The service was very good. James, our waiter, was very attentive. I felt the food wasn't worth the price, but that is often the case in high end restaurants.
Friendly, efficient. The restaurant's inside seating and bar were packed, but the hostess very kindly opened up a table for dinner. The goat cheese on the Brussels was just the right touch and the candied almonds on the beet salad gave such a satisfying crunch.
Food was yummy. My pic is of flatiron steak and fries. Portion size was larger than expected. Workers were all courteous and helpful. Restaurant was a few steps from the music center. Very convenient. Very busy. I advise you make reservations.
The lunch menu has a combination of two items at $29 (e.g., if ordered separately, an onion soup at $12 and a main course - the attached item - costs $28). Kendall's location is next to the Music Center, while there is no similar seated restaurants around there. You also have to pay for parking. Therefore, it usually only attracts persons working near by or business travellers or those who will go to the Music Center to see the performance after the meal.

The food was the issue. Bland food. Couldn't even taste the Ahi. My spouse had to ask for salt and pepper, which is hardly ever the case, especially at this price point. So we paid for the convenience of location, good service and nice atmosphere, bit certainly not the food. And....oh yeah, the beans that came with the salmon were seriously undercooked.
Bring back the burger! Long gone is the classic French Brasserie look that was a downtown staple. Instead, the art nouveau artwork has been replaced with corporate-friendly, music-adjacent murals with a cold color palette straight out of a tech office lounge. The restaurant has completely lost its old glamorous charm. It’s a disservice to the legacy and design of the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. The service is fine, food is decent but of course there is a steep premium to pay for the location. Parking is available at the music center for reasonable rates. I have fond memories of coming here before and after shows at LAO, and friendly car service that took extra special care to make sure there wasn’t a speck of dust or water marks on any of the glassware. That was not the case on my most recent visit. I hope this place continues to expand its menu and expectations in design.

The food was ok, nothing to write home about. Mussels were kind of tasteless and needed a lot more bread. The bartender had zero personality. Our table server was very good and attentive.
Every single thing in here has garlic and my husband called and they said that they didn't have garlic in everything they could hold it on the brick chicken ,not true it's also Very loud And we asked our server for iced tea and she blew us off We had asked somebody else for tea short rib for $52 with a tiny piece of meat set on some mashed potatoes not worth the price, I had to have a salad that had egg and we had to pay extra for chicken instead of the ham I don't eat ham they should have been more accommodating and they weren't they shouldn't charged me extra money for the chicken when I do not eat ham it wasn't like I was adding chicken to the ham, and all their dressings have garlic so I was limited on that and it was a very plain boring salad The fries I asked for plain fries she didn't even tell me they were pre-seasoned,( I asked for plain fries you would think that she would have said I'm sorry we only have preseason fries)The server looks like she's been around here for a long time she should really know. The sad part is no manager came over to our table and saying anything regarding the no garlic and there's a lot of people with that problem it's just a shame that they didn't care, I am updating this post because I have tried three times to get a hold of this restaurant to state my complaints and you cannot get anybody to call you back I left a message Saturday for Jaela called back this afternoon she's in a meeting and spoke to somebody that said they were the floor manager and said somebody will get back to me that day, nobody ever called me Called again Sunday left another message called again Same thing she isn't available had to go out to buy cleaning supply's obviously they really don't care about their customers at all, I would never recommend this restaurant to anybody because of the way that this has been handled somebody should have gotten back to me right away after the lunch(SATURDAY) crowd instead nobody calls you back and nobody cares stay away very expensive for the portions they serve you tiny tiny even the salad I had for dinner was like a dinner salad nothing exciting on it except egg there was nothing else in it except the dry chicken that was $11 and the salad was $19.00. The server has to understand that trips are earned and she got a very small one because she didn't earn her tip in more ways than one.
For the price and location, the food was mediocre. Over priced and limited menu. Very loud inside. Our server was attentive, but my steak was way undercooked, bland and I had to ask for a steak knife. Caesar salad dressing was bland. French onion soup was sweet. Husband had the Gumbo which he said was not seasoned well and Potato leek soup which was bland. We had to ask for salt & pepper. Location was convenient to theater, but not worth the price.
French spot right next to the Ahmanson/Dorothy Chandler Pavilion/Mark Taper Forum. Lots of theatergoers came here prior to shows. Made a reservation for three online beforehand and it’s a straightforward process. If you’re going to see a show, park at the underground garage Music Center (entrance on Grand) for $9 on the weekends/any show day after 5pm. Gendered restrooms available. Credit cards accepted. We got the cheese and charcuterie board which seemed to be a popular order. There were three different cheeses and three different meats, with the portions smaller than expected but there was a variety, so it wasn’t too much of a loss. The loaded fries were really rich and I got that for my meal, but had a lot for leftovers the following day. The mussel pasta was super buttery and rich, which in my book was a plus. Unfortunately they were out of the chocolate creme du pot so I was sad about that. We used a gift card and had $10 left which we wanted to apply it towards part of the tip, but apparently management doesn’t allow tips to be taken from gift cards. That was the first time a restaurant had a policy that didn’t allow you to use a gift card towards a tip, so we were surprised.

I’m a Francophile so it pains me to give any French-style restaurant a bad score but Kendall’s in March 2022 is neither worth the money nor the time you will spend waiting for service, for water, for your meal. And once the meal arrives, you’ll be sorely disappointed. We got the frites, a salad and the steak to split between two people. All were overpriced, very underwhelming in flavor and truly insanely overpriced for the quality of the food. The only thing I enjoyed were *some* aspects of the decor, the location (handy when you’re going to a an event downtown or at The Broad) and the brut rosé that we had. Two stars for that only.
Not so great experience. My girlfriend and I came here on Saturday afternoon after visiting The Broad. We were able to walk in and get a table for two outside, but the service was extremely slow and the food wasn’t satisfying at all. I ordered the flat iron steak frites and she got the farmhand greens and truffle fries. The steak was tasteless and borderline cold by the time it reached me, with a slice of solid garlic butter that should have been melted to baste the steak. The fries tasted like they were sitting out for too long. Unfortunately the best part of the meal were our glasses of Brut Rose. Wouldn’t recommend coming here.
Went here to eat before seeing a musical. The Escargot was interesting... Like little pies in a shot glass, it was OK. Calamari was decent, not fried though, it was like pan seared. The highly recommended Duck Fat Fries were a huge disappointment, it was nothing special. Don't bother with it. The chicken main course was just regular, nothing special. I wouldn't bother to eat here again.
We have been attending theater and arts events for 40 years at the Dorothy Chandler. Kendalls has been a part of that experience for many of those years. Sadly, the restaurant had declined significantly over the years and is not worth the time or money. The remodel is one of the ugliest restaurant interiors in Los Angeles. They took a beautiful French Bistro vibe with great attention to detail with tiles, wood work, etc and remade it into what would be perfect for an upscale laundry mat. In France, the bistro's might look the same for 100 years without any need for updating. Kendall's should have stayed the course. The food used to be good, but sadly it is just slightly better than a Sizzler. We ordered the steak frites last night and said, "medium rare, but err on the side of of rare if needed." It came out medium to well, with just a hint of pink in the very middle. There is only one steak on the menu... at their prices you should nail it every time. The fries were hot, but coated in something that made them feel and taste like a frozen coated fry. The grilled bread, but overly charred with a strong burnt smell and taste. The martini was good, but the bartender forgot to ask if I wanted a twist or olives and had to add the garnish after the drink was served... For an $18 drink... you should expect quality bar service. It's time for a new owner and new chef to take over. And... bread service, two cocktails, and a shared plate of steak frites, came to $150! Will not ever return until ownership has changed and the offensively ugly wall painting removed.
Disappointed in food being bland and not as expected for a brunch . Menu did not prepare me for a crusty bread sandwich, again with little flavor. Not seasoned properly. Although Mohitos were offered along with suitable brunch cocktails, they seemed to forget to mull the mint resulting again a tasteless offering . Serving staff and host were lovely.

The worst food I’ve eaten and I can’t tell you how long I guess they feel they have a captive audience with the Disney hall along with music center so they don’t have to try. We had the steak with fries for $45. It was awful we had the French onion soup never had a worse version of French onion soup bread $10 dry and old and cold. Stay away!!
Food was awful with the arrival of a new chef a month ago. He should not be allowed to cook in any restaurant. Menu has been minimized to a third of original offerings with very old school standard menu selections after new ownership with new unappealing decor. Mussels that were supposed to be cooked w/ white wine were drowned in a thick overbearing mustard sauce and prawn and endive salad had a one dimensional bitter flavor and was actually bland despite having eggplant puree, goat cheese and a mustard -tarragon vinaigrette - which you could not even discern was present. Staff was pleasant w/ very good service. Manager seemed very apologetic and did not charge for the salad and comped two desserts.
What happened to this place. We always eat here prior to a show. The server DID NOT listen to any requests we ordered. We kept having to remind him for simple things like ketchup or extra dressing for salad and butter for bread, refills on our drinks. He kept saying he needed to check if they had them. On top of that he kept forgetting. We listened to the people next to us with the same frustration of simple things he would forget. We sat outside today and it was not busy. The attention to detail and service was totally lacking. Will not come back after all these years for sure. Even the food was not prepared as it stated on the menu. We were there for a birthday, and told 2 people. They did absolutely nothing. I ordered a desert and asked for a candle. Poor service. Very disapointing. The food is terrible here.
A very limited , wildly overpriced menu. Also a very limited wine list, again wildly overpriced. NOT a cozy atmosphere, as advertised. Nice, but definitely not cozy. Grumpy wait staff, not out waitres, but the woman who brought the dishes to the table. Definitely NOT the Kendall's we remember! Probably last visited before COVID. Definitely not going back. Next show, in June, we'll be returning to Abernathy's on the Plaza!
This place has never been great but it’s really gone downhill. Food quality is low but pricey. Caesar with dry and inedible chicken, and shrimp cocktail with 6 very small shrimp. I felt like I was eating Costco pre-made food at a 10x mark up. Will definitely spend elsewhere next time.
Went to Kendall's before a show at the Ahmanson. It's proximity to the Music Theaters made it a convenient choice. While food here has never risen past mediocre, last night will be my last time dining at this establishment. My 18.00 Ceaser with an additional 18.00 of protein probably qualifies as the worst salad I've been served ... and to add insult to injury it cost a total of $36.00. Which I would have gladly paid had it been a good dish. The Romaine was limp and tasteless and the parmesan listed on the menu was non-existent. I had ordered the additional steak on the salad medium rare and when it was presented it was like shoe leather and dark brown fully cooked. Our waiter agreed that it was overcooked and reordered the steak this time it came out completely cold and red, nothing medium rare about it. With proximity as is only added value we will be checking out some of the restaurants upstairs on the Plaza rather than eating here in the future.BTW, the service folks were more than attentive this decision rests totally in the kitchen.
So we went for a quick bite before the opera. We Decided to share the charcuterie plate for $44. It literally had two slivers of manchego , one tiny piece of some other cheese, a bit of salami and capicola or other cured meat, An array of about eight crackers, all stale, and a few berries. It was completely ridiculous. Even the waiter said he was shocked and had asked the cook who told him this is what it is. In the grand old days, this restaurant venue was a wonderful place now I just have to say it’s pathetic…
We were promptly seated, and the waitress greeted us and was very friendly. However, after ordering, we rarely saw her again. There were periods of up to 15 to 20 minutes where she never came around, and when she did, it was because we had the busboy call her over. We saw her at the end of the dining room, tending to other people, but she rarely came up to check on us. On one of those rare times that she did, my wife ordered another glass of wine, but she never brought it. In cases like this, where we are subject to a mandatory gratuity of 20%, it feels very unfair that she should receive such a large sum for hardly spending more than one or two minutes with us during our total time there. And as for the food, it was acceptable but nothing special. It's regrettable that this happened and has left a negative impression of Kendall’s Brasserie.
One of the worst meals I've had.Went there for a quick late lunch.Ordered the Chicken Parmesan and within 5 min it was ready. How in the world can a meal be prepared that fast in an upscale restaurant charging you over $40 for this item.We ate at the bar area and the server could not explain why it came it so fast but promised it was freshly made.Someone is definitely not telling the truth. It tasted so basic like I was at Olive Garden. You either served me a meal that was premade then stuck it in the microwave or someone's unwanted meal! Explain that to me.Never again and will never recommend
We made a reservation for 12/9/25 for 5 pm for 4 of us on Open Table. We arrived at 4:45pm all lights were on, but no one to be seen. Doors were locked etc. We waited and waited outside, and gave up after waiting past 5:15pm. So why make a reservation if they won’t open. So much for wanting to return.
The food was mediocre and overpriced. They automatically added 20% gratuity, despite being a party of one sitting at the bar.
