Opinions de L & E Oyster Bar Los Angeles
OMG! The oysters are amazing. This last week was an oyster tour. You know, like when you're in NYC and you go cruising the city for nuggets. Or wings. Or any food that's a snack and you can find many restaurants or food places with that item so that you take a day to visit many of them and compare. So we did that last week with oysters. And L&E Oyster Bar won the 1st place!! We had the luck to find a parking spot right in front of the bar. We walked across the street and were speculating on how the seating would be. We saw a few tables outside and a table at the balcony which I think is the best spot in the restaurant. There was no chance to sit there. Not this time. But we did get a seat at the left corner of the main entrance, outside and it was very good. They showed us how their ordering system was, and we followed. First we had our wine served. I had "The whole shebang" house red and my GF had the Chard. "The whole shebang" was very fun to order and it was actually a good wine. It marinated very well with the oysters. I didn't try the Chardonnay. Five minutes later we got our big tray with twelve oysters, and they barely fit in it. I'm serious when I say that they were big. The oysters are served with lemon, a spicy thing that I don't remember what it was, but it was very spicy. Take it easy with that. And I think it was soy sauce or some sort of soy mix that paired very well also. I believe we paid $60 for that stop. The dozen oysters were about $30 and the wine added up the rest. L&E oyster Bar is a great place to go for couples, friends, family, everybody. It is a very relaxed environment but it's very appropriate for a special occasion. Dressing up well would bring the place up significantly.
Cute little neighborhood spot. Came in on a rainy day. Had the spot to ourselves for a little while. Super cozy inside. Got the white negroni and eastside. Delicious! The lobster roll (warm) is absolutely heavenly. The branzino was crispy and juicy and well seasoned. The smores tart is really a stand out to me. Definitely worth the trip!
Freshest oysters in LA! They have a good variety, from the east coast to the west coast. The fried oysters are so tasty and crunchy. You have to order the potatoes harissa with creme fraiche, it will blow your mind! They have a full bar which is a plus and they've managed to put together a great selection of specialty cocktails!
Absolutely enjoyed my experience here! Both the food and the service was amazing. I ordered the fish and chips and my boyfriend ordered the oysters. My boyfriend love that there were both oysters from Washington State as well as Canada. My fish and chips were fresh and how amazing sauce with it. Our server was both kind and knowledgeable. He had great recommendations and comments on the dishes. We will definitely be going back soon. Highly recommend it if you love seafood. Loved that we were able to eat outdoors on such a nice night.
Really fun staff. No reservations but during week not a big line. Oysters! Amazing bartenders making great cocktails. And the other guests were all very friendly chill humans <3 had mushrooms, scallops, cauliflower, and black cod. All very very good.
Stopped here on a whim! We had some amazing oysters and the shrimp po'boy was delicious, minus the fried which were crisp enough to our liking. Highly recommend the mock tails, they were fantastic! They had the best carrot cake I'd ever tasted in my 31 years(super moist and not overwhelmingly sweet), don't leave without trying it. Service was impeccable too.
Great ambiance! I recommend getting there early. They opened at 5, we arrived at 5:09, and there was an hour wait. We waited upstairs at the bar. Service was friendly and quick. Our drinks were tasty but a little weak. I had 3 drinks with no buzz. I wanted to try the lobster roll, but they were sold out by the time I ordered. I tried the shrimp poboy instead, and it was just okay. I wouldn't order it again. They also had great music. Overall, I would try this place again. I enjoyed the vibe, and I still want to try the lobster roll. Btw, our server was great. He was attentive and offered us dessert on the house to make up for the lobster roll being sold out.
Greta date night spot! Came here for our anniversary everything was good but some items were excellent.
Great place to get some seafood, fries were hot and the place is tidy and clean
Best oysters we've had since moving from San Francisco! The raw oysters are super fresh and the broiled ones are a must try as well. We also tried the shrimp cocktail and the black cod etouffee, which were both delicious. Cocktails are great and the service is fantastic. We'll definitely be back.
The food was amazing, from the oysters till the steak it was a 10! The staff is so nice what a great service with a A+ taste!!
What an amazing experience. We had oysters, shrimp, crab, hamachi, and caviar. For dessert, an amazing bread pudding with home made vanilla ice cream and a cognac sauce. Drinks were top notch. Will definetly be coming back soon!
What a wonderful place to enjoy some amazing cocktails and seafood. This place which is located in Silver Lake was such an amazing place to have dinner and a few drinks. The staff were amazing. Everyone was so help, polite and attentive to our needs. The Oysters were so tasty, and the Fish and Chips amazing. This place is great even if you just want to hang out and have a few drinks in the upstairs bar. I really enjoyed the atmosphere here and will definitely be coming back soon. I really recommend coming here. Thank you all at the L & E Oyster Bar for such an amazing experience.
L & E is 3 minutes from where I live, so this is a local place for me. I have been about 20 times. The food is always exceptional! Whilst I love a laidback casual style; The last two times there we have been served by one of the bartenders on a Tuesday night. He just doesn’t seem to care about service. Spends most of his time socializing with coworkers and or friends directly in front of you…..while you have an empty glass, dirty plates or want more food. I am a 30% tipper for great service. I don’t need someone to stay at the table all night and chat with me, I have my friends I’m dining with for that! But please do follow up and sell more items. You are losing money for yourself and the restaurant. I had to flag down other servers to get refills on wine and water. If it’s busy I totally get it and no problem, but when the server is leaning against the wall and chatting with friends it’s a little annoying at these prices and they add a living $ % to the check which I support 100% but it feels more like charity when you’re not looked after. That said! Dinner was delicious. We started with oysters that were out of this world, then crab cake and shrimp cocktail. Ended with a Louie salad with crab meat that was mouthwatering good. Had a great Albariño wine and martinis would have drank more! Please do try L & E it’s worth it! just get there early if possible and sit outside with a server. There is also a great little bar upstairs if you want a drink before dinner or just a chill night out
Oysters were delicious and only a little gritty. They only allow orders of 6 or 12, so keep that in mind for splitting with friends. The sauce served with the broccolini was absolutely fantastic and honestly a surprise favorite, highly recommend for a veggie with your fish. The trout belly was just fine, albeit not worth the elevated price tag. However, the main trout dish stood out, even ranking above the belly due to the detectable sauce and the perfectly cooked skin. Service is excellent with ordered water poured for you. Atmosphere is calmed by music drowning out the scattered conversation amidst dim, warm lighting. An extremely random gripe: the butter knives are so dull I couldn't even cut my broccolini with them.
Met up with a friend here and was bowled over by the oysters. So fresh and delicious, and we should have ordered a dozen instead of half. Lobster roll was solid, though I could have done without the mayo. (I asked for butter but am guessing they only do it with the hot version?) Fries were fantastic. The bartender was excellent and was happy to answer questions about the cocktails and adapt one for me. I forget the name of the one I got first, but it was excellent, as was the French 75. My only complaint about the bar is the very loud club music. I was trying to catch up with my friend who I hadn’t had a one on one in-person conversation with in literal years (pre-covid), and the music was a real impediment. Besides that, the vibe is great. Love the lounge seating and velvet pillows on the balcony. We got a nice breeze, and it didn’t bother me to be looking out over the street.
Came for the wine and oysters, fell in love with the crab pesto gnocchi 🤤 the chilled gamay on the wine list was the cherry on top. Great recco from a local friend.
This place does not disappoint. Went back for an early dinner and the food is as fresh and well prepared as ever. We loved the crispy branzino, jerked trout, and lobster thermidor mac and cheese. The oysters were sweet, the octopus special and the cornbread were savory delicious. I was pleasantly surprised with the desserts. The triple berry tart is reminiscent of a cobbler, the raspberry tart was made with a good custard and fresh fruit.
Such a cute little vibe with street side tables for 2 and dimly strung lighting and candles. Fresh, delicious bistro-style seafood options. Oyster sampler with Pacific NW and Gulf oysters and the Steamed Mussels were delicious, and the pommes frites (French fries) may have been the best I've had. Skinny slices with bits of skin on the ends, super crunchy, not greasy with the perfect amount of savory seasoning. Will be back next time I'm in L.A. for sure!
L&E Oyster Bar is such a great spot! I went for dinner on a date, and everything about it made the evening special. The place has this cozy, relaxed vibe that’s perfect for a laid-back night out. The lighting was warm, and the whole space felt welcoming and intimate—exactly what you want for a date. The service was spot on too. Our server was super friendly and made great recommendations without hovering too much. The food was definitely the highlight, though. The oysters were super fresh and came with different sauces that really brought out the flavors. If you’re into oysters, this is the place to go. We tried a few other dishes too, and everything was top-notch. The seafood was fresh and cooked perfectly, and the presentation was great but not overly fancy. Their cocktails were also a nice surprise—really well done and a fun twist on the classics. Overall, it was just a great night, and I’d totally recommend L&E Oyster Bar for anyone looking for a relaxed but memorable meal. I’ll definitely be going back!
Went here to have oyster shooters my first time. It was really good! Excellent service and great deserts. They have an upstairs for drinks too. The clam chowder was yummy
So happy there is somewhere to go where I can sit outside and enjoy some good food during a pandemic fully vaccinated. I'm not ready to go inside yet, so it's great that they have utilized their outdoors to a maximum. The staff was friendly, and took great care of each other and their patrons. Oysters were awesome as was the side green salad, Moules Frites, and the Hemingway (perfectly mixed). L had the crab cakes with fries and the Eastsider with gin. She was happy. It made for a good girls night out.
Had a craving for good shucked oysters and forever wanted to try this local Silver Lake gem. As crazy busy as this place was even for a Sunday night the staff was very attentive and the place was pumping good feel vibes. We had a dozen delicious Kumiai oysters, a bowl of clam chowder (Gloucester, MA worthy), shrimp po’boy and lobster roll (cold). Everything was flavorful and absolutely yummy. Looking forward to going back for more oysters and trying the rest of the menu. Highly recommended.

Legit one of the best dinners I've enjoyed in LA for a long time! It's not a huge menu intentionally because the food is super fresh! East Coast oysters out ranked the west coast oysters but both were delish! The hamachi melted in your mouth, and fish(cod) and chips was a winner for main dish. Super cute vibes and ambience. Will def be going back. Lovely friendly staff.
Came for a private party upstairs. The staff were great. Food and drinks were on point. Will definitely be back
Went here last night for pur Anniversary. Wanted three things. Oysters - Fries - Martini's. Oysters were Fresh, incredibly well cleaned, and all accompaniments were good. The cocktail sauce was notably well balanced. Fries came on the side of the Mussels and Steak we ordered. Home made, well executed. Proteins were very well done. Drinks were cold, balanced, great glassware. The bar is clearly top notch and the focus. Service was fantastic, warm without being overbearing. The one or two hiccups we had, were taken care of swiftly. Fantastic neighborhood spot. Gem for sure.

Tasty food. However you need to get there before 6pm for dinner during weekends if you don’t want to wait at the bar section on the 2nd floor because they don’t take reservations. You can probably eat right away at the bar on the ground level, which I did. But the bar stools were very uncomfortable. I wish they had chairs with back support for the bar as well.
Top notch oyster bar. More casual vibes, not fancy date night, but fun date night. The drinks are fantastic and the oysters were fresh, with selections changing regularly. Two types of oyster were available the night we went, both rather mild but delectable. The caviar helped bring the saltiness, and I would have liked a proper mignonette rather than just vinegar. Horseradish, lemon and cocktail sauce were also available. The dinner dishes are well made and of a good size. Service was good, if a bit confusing as they seemed to take an "all hands on deck" approach. I believe we were waited on by everyone in the place at some point in the evening. In any case everyone was prompt and polite and they kept it all straight regardless of who showed up table side.
Food and vibes are great. Drinks come pretty quick which is good. If you have a male server wearing rubber gloves and a mask, ask to change tables.
We wanted to eat at the restaurant but it was an hour wait. We went upstairs to the bar area (stairs are outside). The bar was loud and dimly lit. You basically order your food & drinks at the bar and then find seating; plenty of seats everywhere. They mainly serve wine. We ordered two rounds of a dozen of chef's choice oysters. The chef picks 4 variety of oysters for $28. I've tasted a lot of different oysters before but they have some oysters I've never tried before. There are other little snacks to order from.Their clam chowder was really good and full of bacon. Overall it was a great place to hang out and grab some oysters. I will come back again.
Food was good but bartender had a horrible attitude. We showed up at right before 9pm and the bartender immediately tells me, we close at 10 so we won't be able to take additional orders after this on. After that he was upset that I wanted to keep my tab open after I saw same bartender offer to have other customers tabs open. He told me twice "are you sure you wanna keep it open? Its customary to close your tab each time", and when I declined he scoffed and made a face of displeasure. After that he refused to take any additional orders, attending and taking orders of people coming to the bar after me. Another lady who was cleaning the back bar took my additional drink orders instead and apologized for her coworker. The time was now around 10:15 and people continued to arrive and that bartender took their orders happily. The only thing different between those customers and myself was race, they were white and I am not. I hate to blame it on race but that was the only notable difference. The bartender might have had a different reason for his rudeness, but usually it's not that deep and the simplest answer is the best solution, the bartender is racist.
A bit expensive but Food & Service was great… but when I questioned an add-on charge for 2 cocktails the manager Andy came up with some bs excuse to justify the charge. At that point it became less about the money and more about his nasty attitude.
This place was tasty! I really enjoyed it. I just wish the lobster Mac was slightly bigger portion. It looks bigger than it is because it’s spread out. Fabulous and delicious dinner. The drinks were really good too. There’s a cute bar upstairs and more of a restaurant vibe downstairs. Good place to grab a drink with a friend or date.
Cosy LA warm vibe. Lobster roll was lovely! I got the Connecticut one. I ordered a Paloma and it was a little strong for me but the bartender changed it free of charge which I deeply appreciate!
I love the staff there. They were super nice to the kid, and were truly helpful. They got their own style of food there I’m telling you, really special and definitely amazing! The cornbread is absolutely worth the wait, don’t miss that! Just a bit disappointed of the tiny oyster tho🤔 Call it a fusion would be better than an oyster bar 😈 We wanted to sit outside but it was too long of the queue. Still got an awesome vibe of the night sitting inside. Overall it’s a relaxing and romantic place, I’d love to come back again.
Service was great! Easy to walk to and grab a seat around 9pm. The oysters were delicious & especially loved the clam chowder. So much better than lonely oyster who wouldn’t seat us even with reservations

Food was really quite lovely but unfortunately the service was note worthy bad. As a solo diner seated at the bar I was ignored for a good 5 minutes until I asked for a menu. The food was brought out in the wrong order. The oysters were charged higher than was on the menu - and I was told when I questioned the bill it was just written incorrect on the menu. Overall experience was nice and the chowder was delicious but in a half empty restaurant I expect better service. A note also 20% gratuity is added automatically.
Nice ambiance, friendly staff, good wine list, good oysters. My only problem was that ten out of twelve oysters were missing their liquor-- a rookie move for an oyster specialist-- and the staff admittedly didn't know much about the wine they were serving. When I'm paying premium prices I need the staff to be well trained and I want perfectly shucked oysters.
I get that it’s their job, but being asked five times if I want another drink after I’ve already said no is kind of annoying. Food is great, service not amazing
The bartender downstairs was extremely rude to us while we were waiting for our table. It ruined the impression before the dinner has even started. The server was great though and we ended up leaving him a big tip.

Came here on recommendation by Mashed, but not impressed at all. After reading the reviews here, I realize that this might be the best place for oysters in LA, but def not in the US. Coming from Boston, I don’t recall a time that I couldn’t eat the oysters. Maybe west coast oysters are mostly pretty small and fishy? Also, the happy hour is a couple dollars off a $20+ dish. I will give them credit for the hip environment, but the price and food, I’m sure there are better places.
Great ambiance, kind servers, and the food tasted great but me and my girlfriend came down with serious food poisoning after eating here a day later. We had oysters, clam chowder, fried calamari, mixed green salad, and our entrees were the mussels and crab linguine. I enjoyed the restaurant overall, service was good, parking not so great, and many items were flavorful but unfortunately we believe it was the mussels which gave us food poisoning. l cannot say with much confidence I’d like to come back or would I recommend it after a very rough night and day of food poisoning. Maybe skip the mussels if you end up going.
We really enjoyed the wine and the atmosphere. The food was crazy expensive and not great. The fish and chips were mediocre, the hot fish was put on top of the French fries making them soggy. The Parmesan oysters did not seem broiled just wet. And the sauce on the ravioli was watered down without much taste. The raw oysters that my daughter got were delicious, but for nearly $300 it was disappointing,
Stick to their appetizers and avoid the fried foods. Ambience was cool, service was just ok. Ordered a dozen oysters which were delicious but one came out that basically had no meat. Fish and chips tasted good but was super heavy with oil as if the fry temp was not high enough. Their main fish dish was bland and oily with mayo as well. Ended up throwing up immediately after.
I was incredibly disappointed with this restaurant. My daughter was visiting from out of state and we decided on L&E oyster because they had good reviews and my daughter hadn't been able to get oysters in the state she has moved to. We checked their website for their menu and hours. The hours listed were 5 pm-11:00 pm... on THEIR WEBSITE. We got an Uber and, after a 40 minute drive, arrived at the entrance to the restaurant at 9:32 pm. We were informed that we wouldn't be able to be served because they stopped seating people at 9:30. Huh? You stop seating people at 9:30 when you close at 11:00?! We were told, no, they close at 10:00. Okay. Well since your website says you close at 11 and stop seating people at 10:30 pm AND since it's 9:32 can't you please make an exception and seat us? The first person said they would check but didn't think so, the next person said it was fine and to seat us, the next person said no but we could go upstairs to the bar (where they don't serve oysters or other food), the next person again said it was fine until the final employee (a female who I believe was a manager of some sort) came out and said no because she already told the kitchen to stop making food. Not sure I believed that and said so at which time the female employee said she had already turned other people away so she couldn't let us stay. I can only imagine that this woman sits at the door with an alarm set on her phone so even if someone arrives at 9:30:02 she can turn them away. When my daughter mentioned the closing time on their website she was not at all surprised and in fact just said, yeah that's the old closing time. After going back and forth for about 5 minutes and getting pretty frustrated, we left. We ended up going to the Lazy Oyster in Echo Park and had an incredible dinner with excellent service! I would recommend others save their time and money and go to The Lazy Oyster from the beginning, especially if customer service is one of the most important things you look for when deciding which businesses you want to support!
I visited this restaurant last night with five friends, and unfortunately, our experience was quite disappointing. I ordered the hanger steak for $55, which turned out to be a letdown. I requested it cooked medium rare to medium medium rare, but it arrived medium well to well done. After trying a few larger pieces, I decided to politely ask if they could grill another piece for me. I didn’t want to create a scene since I was with friends, but the steak was truly subpar. When the second steak arrived, it was cooked the same way—medium well to well done. I informed the server and requested the dish be removed from our bill. To my surprise, he returned and said they couldn’t take it off because I had eaten too much. I barely touched the second steak, allowing my friends to taste it to confirm it was overcooked. Things took a turn when the sous chef approached me in a condescending manner. I expressed my dissatisfaction, saying, “Please don’t talk to me like that,” to which she responded, “Well, how do you want me to speak to you?” The sous chef also said “it’s too expensive for us to remove it from your bill. I was taken back by the level of service I was receiving. After that, I asked to speak with the manager, who was also quite rude and insisted that I had eaten too much of the steak for it to be removed from the bill. As a former executive chef and someone still working in the service industry, I was truly at a loss regarding this experience. It felt as though the hanger steak had been marinated, resulting in a cured texture. My friends, who live just up the street and have been loyal patrons for years, all agreed that after last night, none of us will be returning.
This place fell off so hard. We live up the street and have come here for years. They’ve raised the prices to a point where it’s borderline disrespectful. Especially when they’re charging $55 for 4 tiny pieces of hanger steak that are drowned in an overly salty peppercorn sauce, a bland arugula salad and some cold fries. When I asked the server when did they change the price of the steak to $55, he gave me an incredulous look and excused himself to find a menu and double check what I had said. Food is mid, the host is clueless, but the servers are awesome. Get yourself together, management. You’re making everyone else look bad.
