Opinions de Mel‘s Drive-In Los Angeles
Tucked near the Walk of Fame, this place delivers exactly what you hope for when you step into a classic diner – hearty portions, and that timeless charm that never tries too hard. The chocolate milkshake was thick, and crowned with the cherry-and-cream flourish. The avocado toast tasted fresh, and thoughtfully made. Add to that a lightning-fast , genuinely kind server, and a pup who felt just as welcome as we did, and you’ve got a spot that understands hospitality. The tables also have jukeboxes where you can drop in a coin, and listen to a song of your choice. And those candy-apple red leather chairs? Instant joy. They whisper stories of early mornings, and countless satisfied diners. Five stars also for the strangers who stopped to make our pup feel like a Hollywood A-lister.
The atmosphere was so fun, the servers were great, and the food was pretty good. The prices were a little bit too much considering its comfort food from an old diner, but the atmosphere makes it worth it!
It was a great place but towards the end of the night when it wasn't very busy. It was fascinating for my wife and youngest son to see. Great Burger and Fries and Root Beer Soda Float.
Our family really enjoyed Mel’s drive-in. It’s right next to the Chinese Theater just off the Hollywood walk of fame. It has a classic diner vibe and is famous for its burgers and milkshakes. I thought it was tasty and enjoyed the french fries. Our server was absolutely fantastic and made it an incredible experience.
Very nice experience. Quiet atmosphere in this typical 1950s style dinner. Fairly good food and service was great with Amanda. Lots of attention and interesting discussions with her. Would definitely come back.
Had a delicious dinner here with a friend recently. I ordered the regular grilled cheese with coleslaw and a Chocolate Shake and everything was delicious. My friend never had Mel's before and thought the milkshake was amazing! Great service and food!
I highly recommend the Mel’s Cheeseburger and Chili Fries, both were very delicious! A very nostalgic experience!
Great food, loved the beef cheese melt. Properly American dinner feel, good location, friendly service.
Loved the vibe The waiter w blonde hair is SUPER cute, proactive and kind - oreo milkshake was yummy
Nice food. Nice atmosphere. Friendly staff. We had a great time here.
Mels Drive-In on Sunset Boulevard is an absolute classic and one of my favorite spots in L.A.! From the moment you walk in, you’re hit with that nostalgic diner vibe, cozy booths, and great music that instantly puts you in a good mood. Everything we tried was amazing, but the braised beef grilled cheese deserves a special shout-out, it was perfectly crispy on the outside, loaded with tender, flavorful beef and melted cheese. Total comfort food heaven! The staff were friendly and attentive, even though the place was busy, and the service felt genuinely warm. The milkshakes and fries were also fantastic, exactly what you’d hope for in a classic American diner. Whether you’re visiting L.A. or a local looking for that old-school Hollywood charm, Mels Drive-In is a must. Great food, great energy, and that perfect mix of nostalgia and fun.
So fun. Had a friend visiting for a week from Virginia and it was her 1st time on the west coast. Our waitress was perfect and I believe she has worked there for 30 years or something like that. She was so fun. My visitor also loves the Selling Sunset show and Mel's is right across the street from the Oppenheim Group. So that is an added bonus if anyone is in to that. We actually ended up visiting Mel's twice that week. Stop in and try a yummy shake, and enjoy the ambiance 😊 *The only picture I took was of my friend in front of the Oppenheim Group, across the street from Mel's
I visited Mel’s Drive-In at Sunset Plaza (8585 W Sunset Blvd, West Hollywood), and it was honestly one of the most memorable moments of my trip to Los Angeles. At first, everything was just perfect, the retro vibe, classic diner music, and warm California sunset setting the mood. I ordered the Hollywood Burger, paired with crispy golden fries and a cold refreshing beer, and just sat back, completely relaxed and soaking in the iconic atmosphere of West Hollywood. But what started as a chill evening turned into a heart-stopping moment when I realized I had lost my wallet and not just any wallet, but the one that held all my most important documents, including my passport. Without it, I wouldn’t be able to return to my home country. I felt panic rise in my chest and was literally on the verge of tears. Luckily, the staff at Mel’s Drive-In were incredibly kind, calm, and quick to help. One of them had found my wallet and kept it safe, and when they handed it back to me completely intact, I almost cried out of relief and gratitude. It was not just about great food or a nostalgic American diner experience. It was about genuine kindness. Mel’s Drive-In gave me not only a taste of Hollywood but also a memory that I will never forget. Thank you to the amazing staff, you didn’t just serve food, you saved my trip.
Mel’s Drive-In near Hollywood Blvd serves up delicious comfort food in a fun, retro atmosphere. As a historical landmark, it captures the spirit of classic Americana with vintage décor and friendly service. Perfect for tourists and locals alike, it’s a must-visit spot for a tasty meal and nostalgic experience.
Mel’s Drive-In is always a hit! A must-visit if you’re in LA. We’ve been a few times, but our recent visit for the SKIMS collab was such a fun experience and unexpected pairing of classic diner vibes with modern pop culture! The collab menu was fire, we had the Buttery soft pancakes, SKIMS Smash Burger, Trending Tenders and the SKIMS Signature Shake. Everything tasted amazing, and the whole experience felt nostalgic with a playful, fashion-forward edge. Mel’s always delivers for a quick bite — solid diner staples, cute retro atmosphere, and friendly staff. Bonus - open 24/7, so it’s the perfect go-to any time of day (or night). Highly recommend checking it out — especially if there’s a themed event going on!
Absolutely fantastic experience at Mel's Diner on Sunset Blvd! From the moment we walked in, the service was top-notch – attentive, friendly, and genuinely made us feel welcome. The diner was impeccably clean, creating a comfortable and enjoyable atmosphere. And the food? Truly amazing! Every dish was cooked to perfection, bursting with flavor and using what tasted like high-quality ingredients. This is a classic diner experience elevated. Five stars all the way!
I always wanted to come to this famous place and the experience was delightful. I love how they make the pancakes for the kids. The parking is in the back and it’s valet parking complimented by the restaurant, but tips are really welcome. The whole service was really amazing, from valet parking to the server’s assistants. I’m just giving 4.5 to the service because our server took the pancakes to put it in a box and never brought it back lol. Coffe delicious.
Another Mel’s location we like to stop by. This one in West Hollywood has a great vibe where you sense B-listers stopping by at any time of the day to feed themselves on shakes and burgers. The location is in a great neighborhood and they just recently team-up with Skims next door, which makes it even busier than usual, especially on weekends. Food is good and service is great
Oh boy, does this place make the best milkshake! And it's so fun with the 1950s vibe and interior. The curly fries are great too. Free parking.

I recently visited Mel’s Drive-In in Hollywood. It’s a cozy, classic spot with a nostalgic atmosphere that takes you back in time. The vintage décor and overall vibe are very charming, and it’s a nice place to enjoy a meal or a drink. However, after so many years of operation, it seems that some parts of the service and maintenance have declined a bit. The table we were seated at wasn’t very clean, which affected the overall impression. Also, the servers didn’t have a specific uniform, and that made the place feel a little less organized and professional. Still, I enjoyed the experience overall — the location, history, and ambiance make it worth a visit, especially if you like old Hollywood diners.
Pretty good especially the pancakes. Not AMAZING but not bad whatsoever. They do have some parking and it is a great place to get a quick bite right beside hollywood blvd.
Great place Great atmosphere The host didn’t know if they served breakfast at dinner which seemed a bit odd. Once we had our main server she was helpful and able to answer all our questions. Had the traditional burger, fries, milkshake, and everything was great. Security at the door ensured safety for everyone. Good menu selection, and the place was busy which meant it was a good choice for many to come and dine.
A really fun classic diner. Can get a bit noisy with all the families that come from the walk of fame and museums but food was really good and chocolate milkshake hit the spot
We had a fun time stopping into Mel’s for a quick meal. It has a great atmosphere with classic diner vibes. We ordered a Tuna Melt, Reuben, and French Dip, plus a side of French fries—the fries were especially good. For dessert, we shared the chocolate cookie with ice cream. The service was friendly and attentive. Overall, a fun and nostalgic meal.
First of all, it was a really great burguer and french fries. My brother ordered some chicken tenders and if you take a look at the picture they could look simple, they are but also good. Atmosphere is great, you can play a song at the place by entering a coin in the jukebox, that was so cool, more to me because I did not had that experience in my life haha, anyway it is great. Something that I did not like was that the waitress gave us the receipt and told us "just bringing this here, no rush guys" and that was ok, but then like 5-8 min later she was already charging us. And I fell kinda rushed by her. We were not ready yet to leave, we were planning to stay a little bit more and the place was almost empty, plenty of tables free and no people waitin. That was my only problem.
Iconic American Diner with Classic Vibes We had brunch at Mel’s Drive-In on Sunset Boulevard after visiting the Walk of Fame, and it truly felt like stepping into a classic American diner. The retro interior is iconic, and they offer free valet parking, which is convenient in that busy area. It was very crowded during brunch hours, so the service was a bit slow, but the staff was friendly. The milkshake was a standout—super delicious! My daughter and I had French toast, which was okay but not exceptional, while my husband really enjoyed his biscuits and gravy with eggs. Overall, the atmosphere and experience were memorable, but the food and prices didn’t fully live up to the hype.
Food: 4/5\nFinally got around to trying this iconic LA staple! I got the burger + fries and it tasted like the classic diner meal! The perfect place to hit after the bars. Nothing crazy amazing but…
Good burgers in a period restaurant! It is an old style diner, but the food is fresh and pretty quick given how many customers there were.

Good quality food with lots of veggie / vegan options. Friendly staff. A good American diner experience on Sunset, but it is expensive
This place has a great vibe in regard to decor...the food and service...not so much. Location is great, but food is expensive and not very good.
We stopped by Mel’s Diner before seeing a Jimmy Kimmel taping, mostly because of its iconic reputation. The ambiance definitely delivers classic décor and a fun, nostalgic vibe. As for the food, it’s solid but nothing out of the ordinary. The patty melt was the standout and genuinely delicious. My girlfriend’s BLT was a bit underwhelming, though still enjoyable. Overall, Mel’s is worth a visit for the ambiance and the experience, but for the price point, there are definitely other spots we’d try before returning.
Interesting, historic, fun place, with the friendliest staff I could ever meet and great experience overall. However, the food is quite terrible compared to other diners (even Denny’s or IHOP). Portions were very generous with lots of fries for sure, but the main dish itself is rather underwhelming. My southern fried chicken order was just fried chicken, which isn’t bad but just underwhelming. The dinner roll they provided was rather cold and hard. The biscuits and gravy were biscuits and gravy but the gravy was just too sickening. Love the chili dog which wasn’t on the menu, and the chili fries. Couldn’t praise the waitress enough for the American hospitality I can’t find anywhere else. Parking is rather expensive at $20 with Mel’s validation, even though I’m quite sure it’s their lot, understandable considering it’s right next to the hollywood tourist destinations. Food is also expensive compared to others of its kind, which is still fair considering its strategic proximity to Hollywood itself.

Came here to get a feel for an American Diner; Service and atmosphere is good. Food is ok, proportions are generous. Worth a try if your staying in the area.
this place was highly recommended by friends, but its just an overpriced diner in my opinion. The food is good but nothing you cant find at another diner style restaurant. parking is very expensive…
For a place that’s been serving Hollywood since 1947, you’d expect Mel’s Drive-In to have flavor figured out by now. Unfortunately, what a massive letdown. We ordered four different meals, and every single one tasted like the seasoning took the night off. The Jalapeño Burger and Patty Melt had patties as bland as plain bread, and even the ranch couldn’t help since it was watered down and just as flavorless. The short rib nachos? Same story. And I truly didn’t think it was possible to mess up French toast, but here we are. We were excited for dessert based on the menu descriptions, but after the disappointing entrees, there was no saving throw left to make. We skipped it entirely. To be fair, our waitress was very sweet and provided great service. The cashier, however, looked like saying “hello” and “thank you” would have been too big of an ask. Overall, Mel’s looks like Hollywood nostalgia, but the food needs some serious seasoning and the experience fell flat. Disappointing visit.
The food is very mediocre. The atmosphere is cold, and the temperature inside feels like a refrigerator. The waitress is really doing her best. For me, this is a real disappointment.

⭐️ 1-Star Review ⭐️ Mel’s Drive-In – Highland Ave We’re visiting from out of town and came to Mel’s because it was recommended to us. Unfortunately, our experience was incredibly disappointing. We had a semi-large group, but we were more than willing to split up to make things easier. Despite that, the manager, Jonathan, refused to seat us at all. He told us we needed a reservation, so we asked what time we could make one. His response was, “I don’t know.” After going back and forth, he eventually admitted he simply did not want to serve us. At that point it became clear we weren’t dealing with a policy issue—just poor customer service and a manager who had no interest in helping us. For a place that came highly recommended, this was a terrible first impression. We won’t be back, and we definitely won’t be recommending this location to anyone else.
My rating is so low for several reasons. One of them is that they aren’t honest, they always put a pickle on the side when I ask them not to (it doesn’t even come with the French dip) and everytime I waste money and have to throw it away because they are pickles either on the sandwich or on the side. This time I drove far and made sure to say please no pickles. When she handed me the bag I asked her if they had put any on she said no, and when I opened the bag to check, there was pickles. So I ask for a refund or a re order and she says no problem and tells me to just wait a little for the food. She brought me back a “new sandwhich” and when I got home and opened the box it reaked of pickles, which means they didn’t even make me a new sandwich (makes sense since it only took a few minutes) and just lied to me telling me it’s fresh, in reality it was the sandwhich that had pickles they just removed the pickles. I didn’t want this to be a long paragraph but anyways, super disheartening. Another reason I’m rating it low is because it just smells terrible in there like mold and stale diner food. The Mel’s on sunset is 100% different, it’s so good, they never lie and I can trust their service every time. It also smells fine in there. It’s also freezing and unwelcoming I’ll make sure to never come to Mel’s if it’s this location, I’ll only be returning to the sunset blvd location from now on. Such a disappointment, waste of money
