Opinions de Oakobing Los Angeles
OKOBING is a solid and authentic Korean shaved ice dessert spot. It really feels like what you would expect from a Korean dessert café — the atmosphere, the smell of the desserts, and even groups of noisy middle school students hanging out all add to the vibe and authenticity. The desserts are good and, importantly, not overly sweet like many American dessert places, which is a big plus. Overall, definitely recommended. Just be aware that parking can be a nightmare.
Delicious!!! Had the mango melon shaved ice and it was so gooood. We were in LA only one night, so the next day, before leaving, we went here again and had the strawberry and injeolmi! All the flavors were delicious. Only disappointment was the kiosk credit card reader. Wont read chip and wont read swipe. Had to use my secondary card with chip sensor to work. I saw others used their phone to pay so that works too. Please fix the credit card reader!!! It also scratched my card chip when inserting it.
The bright casual spot drew me in right away with its fun dessert vibe, I tried the green tea and mango melon shaved ice, both were refreshingly light with fluffy texture and tasty toppings. Portions are generous and perfect to share with a friend on a warm day. Get napkins because it can get messy, but great tasting will be coming back again
Absolutely loved the strawberry shaved ice with fresh strawberries, but my sister did not like her mango shaved ice (the frozen mango pieces tasted a little sour & it seeped into the shaved ice). The portion is good for the price, & there is plenty of seating for various group sizes. There is a restroom, but it was unavailable (employee said someone lost the key 😞). We ended up trying and liking a ramyun place around the corner (oppa ramyun) while looking for a bathroom, so it was a blessing in disguise! We found street parking, but there is a good sized parking lot right behind Oakobing (access through the alleyway) for $5. Service was fast & friendly. Will definitely be back to try other things on the menu.
I’ve been to this place twice already and I absolutely love their bingsoo. On my first visit, I tried the classic Injeolmi flavor, and it was incredibly good. The creamy milk base with injeolmi and red bean was such a perfect combination. The portion was generous, but we still finished it because it was that delicious. On my second visit, I tried the strawberry bingsoo, and I didn’t like it as much. It tasted a bit artificial to me. I would definitely go back for the classic flavors again. They also have patio seating available, which is nice on good-weather days. It does get a little crowded, though.
This dessert shop serves a variety of shaved ice creations topped with fruit, syrup, and other classic flavors, made from pre-frozen ice cubes rather than freshly shaved blocks. Ordering is simple and service runs efficiently. We tried the strawberry, mango–melon, and injeolmi versions—all well balanced, with clean, refreshing flavors. The texture of the ice is impressively soft, dissolving almost instantly on the tongue, and a small cup of condensed milk comes on the side for those who prefer an extra touch of sweetness and cream. It’s an easy, satisfying stop for a light dessert that feels both nostalgic and modern.
Oakobing is a must try if you’re in Koreatown! Parking is easy in the garage right behind the shop. Everything here is good, but my favorites are definitely the melon and the matcha. The space isn’t very big so it can get crowded at times, not really the place to hang out for long, but totally worth it for the desserts.
Craving something sweet in Los Angeles so we drove around K-town on a Friday night. Every place we wanted to go to was either packed or parking was non-existent. Then Oakobing popped up on my map close by to where we were circling. AND they had parking! (Valet parking $5 cash only) the place was packed but we were able to get in before another wave of people came in. Placed our order on a tablet then quickly grabbed a seat right after a worker cleaned it. We watched the workers behind the counter place a big block of flavored ice in the machine that shaved it into a tall pile of snow into a cup. The portion is sizeable enough for 2 people to share. The Tiramisu was okay and def needed the coffee liquid to give it some flavor. The Mango Melon, now that was deee-licious! We did an add-on milk drizzle which made it even more creamy. Apparently ours comes in a monstrous size with an actual melon carved out as a bowl. The table next to us ordered one of those. I think there were about 6 of them sharing it. So glad we found this place!
The place was super packed! Which I can see why! Loved their shaved ice cream for sure! Ordered: Mango Melon Shaved Ice 10/10 Mango single size Shaved Ice 10/10 Also got their Injeolmi Latte 6/10 Wanted to try it to see how it was, but it was not really to my liking! Overall experience 10/10 Super fast with their orders! Felt super light, and I'll definitely see myself coming back to try this!
I feel a bit bad saying this, because the matcha latte was actually pretty nice — smooth, not too sweet, and refreshing. But the place was super busy when we went, and it kind of threw off the vibe a little. Lots of people packed into a small space, so it felt a bit chaotic instead of chill. I know that’s normal for a popular café, but I guess I was hoping for something a little more relaxed to enjoy the drink. Still — the presentation was good, the drink tasted nice, and the staff seemed like they were doing their best under pressure. Just not the most peaceful spot if you’re hoping to slow down and hang out.
THIS refreshing dessert was worth the trouble finding a parking space! Amazingly sweet melon on the mango melon shave ice was the highlight! We also had the Oreo tiramisu shave ice which was a wonderful chocolaty complement to the fruitiness of the melon. The shave ice seemed less like ice and more like a creamy dairy dessert, quite wholesome tasting. Dining room was packed with other customers but we were able to find a table. I like ordering from the kiosk which gives thorough descriptions and has large photos of each item.
LA bucket list spot!! It’s like the mian mian bing of my childhood but Korean. Not icy at all and very fluffy + mochi was so tender. I liked how you could decide how much condensed milk to add yourself. It can get very crowded but service is fast. There’s also a small portion that can be easier to finish for groups less than 4 people.
My group got the single size Sesame and Mango Melon. The sign outside did not have all the flavors. Personally I did not care for the sesame since it was coconut base. The Mango shaved ice was good but I didn't like how the shaved ice were in ribbons. It was difficult to get a scoop without spilling some on the table... which is why probably why the tables are sticky!
This was my second time visiting Oakobing. While the shaved ice is delicious, my overall impression of the place hasn’t been great—both visits left me feeling disappointed. First, the store is quite small, so waiting for a table is already a stressful experience. On top of that, the dessert prep area looked unclean, and the floors were noticeably dirty. During my first visit (on December 25, 2024), I was able to park in the parking structure without any issues. However, today (June 16, 2025), I see that valet parking was now required upon entering. They charged $5 for cash or $5.50 for Apple Pay, but the strange part was—they told me to park the car myself. If I’m self-parking, why am I paying a valet fee? When I got out of the car, the person collecting payments was just sitting there scrolling on his phone. The structure itself had plenty of open spots (probably because it’s Father’s Day), yet later I saw him valet another car and park it right in front of mine, completely blocking it. The whole experience was illogical and frustrating from start to finish. I don’t think I’ll be returning to this location. I’ll probably try the Pasadena branch next time and hope for a better experience.
I ordered an Injeolmi bingsu & mango yesterday. The rice cake had green tea powder on it. I never ordered anything with green tea. At first, I suspected the food might have been reused, but since I can’t verify that, I tried calling the store. No one answered. I don’t need any explanation. I simply won’t be ordering again. It wasn’t good anyway. Wishing your business continued success.
First off, the street leading to this place feels like a scene straight out of a zombie apocalypse movie. You park in the back for $5 and walk through a dark, sketchy alley just to enter through the rear. Not exactly welcoming. Inside, it’s chaotic and packed (as expected on a Sunday), but even if seating were available, I wouldn’t have sat down. The tables and chairs looked like they hadn’t been wiped down all day. The entire place smelled awful—like a dirty diaper mixed with rotting fruit. The floor was sticky, the air was humid, and the ice shaving station looked filthy. I don’t even want to imagine what’s behind the curtain. The staff were changing gloves regularly (as they should). I ordered a small shaved ice and paid $9.31. The fruit came in exactly six sad little pieces, and it's just shaved ice. Honestly, you’d be doing someone a disservice by recommending this spot—or anywhere this area. Between the price, the cleanliness, the smell, and the setting, I don't understand the high reviews.
